The Kit Kat Connoisseur: A Tasting Adventure Through Japan's Chocolat and Sublime Series
As I unwrapped each Kit Kat, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. The Chocolat series from Japan promised to deliver unique and sophisticated flavor combinations that would challenge my perceptions of the classic candy bar. And indeed, they did not disappoint.
First up was the Champagne Raspberry Kit Kat, which looked like it belonged in a high-end champagne house. The dark chocolate snap gave way to a creamy pink wafer that seemed to be infused with the essence of champagne. I was hesitant at first, but the tartness and slight spiciness of the flavor won me over. It was a bold and unexpected combination that left me wondering why it didn't work for me as much as I thought it would.
Next came the Kit Kat Sake, which had piqued my interest when I saw the video of its creator, em eats Okinawa, extolling its virtues. As I took a bite, I was struck by how well the sake flavor was captured - it was like tasting a glass of cold sake on a hot summer day. But, unfortunately, not all of the Chocolat series would live up to this standard.
The Shasa Kit Kat from Japan's subtropical region of Okinawa caught my eye with its promising citrus aroma and flavor profile. As I unwrapped it, I was hit with a wave of citrusy freshness that seemed to evoke the scent of lemon or lime, but with a subtle grapefruity undertone reminiscent of Yuzu. The combination of chocolate and citrus was surprisingly harmonious, with neither element overpowering the other.
The real test came when I opened the Sublime Kit Kat series, which promised to deliver even more complex and bitter flavor combinations. The Bitter Passion Fruit Kit Kat proved to be a wild card - while the passion fruit flavor itself was mild, the sourness it brought to the table paired surprisingly well with the dark, almost-bitter chocolate. It was an unusual pairing, but one that worked surprisingly well.
Finally, I turned my attention to the Bitter Raspberry Kit Kat, which seemed to be a more deliberate attempt to recapture the essence of champagne raspberry from the Chocolat series. While it didn't quite live up to its predecessor's standard, the combination of bitter chocolate and tart raspberry was still undeniably compelling.
As I finished the last bite of each Kit Kat, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experience. The Japanese Chocolat and Sublime series had pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to appreciate flavors that I might not have otherwise tried. Whether or not these flavors would win over converts is up for debate - but one thing's certain: Japan's Kit Kat connoisseurs know how to craft unique, sophisticated candies that are worth trying.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: engreetings my lovelies hi it's Emmy welcome back to another Kit Kat tasting so today I'll be tasting several flavors of Japanese Kit Kat so some of you may not know that in Japan there are tons and tons and tons of Kit Kat flavors I actually did a series with taste made where I went to Japan and went to different areas to explore why certain flavors came from different areas so at this point I think I've tasted probably over 50 different flavors of KitKat and I've heard they're over 200 and these Kit Kats were very kindly sent to me by viewer Ru thank you so much for sending these to me I am so excited to have more Kit Kat flavors so the first one I have is this one man no ta which translated to some sort of everyday extravagance according to what Ry wrote me and this one was inspired by the molon flavor one which I tasted I believe in my last Kit Kat tasting it was a beautiful Kit Kat of dark chocolate a single bar encrusted with cranberries and and almonds this one I imagine is going to be a little bit more toned down since it's supposed to be an everyday extravagance oh this one is quite similar in the fact that it has the almonds and The Cranberries on top but it's not so thickly encrusted as the other one still quite charming and smaller in size the other one was about twice as long inside we have the wafer classic wafer of a Kit Kat right let's give that a taste luy malls mhm M I think I actually like that better than the molsen version the balance of crunchy almond and chewy cranberry to wafer and chocolate is perfect you just get a little bit of that nutty crunch of course you get the crunch of the wafer as well but then everything is tied together with this kind of bittersweet chocolate and then you get a little bit of Chewy tartness from The Cranberries delicious the next one we have is this one this looks kind of celebratory I think this must be a Christmas edition based on the decor and the color scheme and this one is the butter cookie flavor so R very graciously sent me two of these because this is supposed to be baked so let's try it in its raw State first so here it is it's a white Kit Kat double bar and the wafer is white nice snap ooh it smells very buttery kind of butterscotchy actually m wow very very strong butterscotch flavor very sweet like white chocolate but the flavor is very butterscotchy kind of like butterbeer or like those butterscotch hard candies exact same flavor profile except it has a wafer Crunch and a white chocolate kind of mouth feel not bad all right let's try it baked so what I did was I placed this bar on a little bit of foil and placed it in the toaster oven and baked it up until it got nice and gold golden if you ever make these be sure to keep an eye on them because there's so much sugar in there they love to burn which I've done in some previous tastings so here it is looks like some of the chocolate end up on the bottom all right let's try this version here we go M wow it tastes even sweeter once it's baked maybe because it's warmed up and you taste those flavors more but what I really like is that it has a really great crunch the chocolate coating on the outside gets caramelized and really light and crunchy texturally it's just marvelous but in terms of flavor you still have that very strong kind of butterscotchy flavor which I'm not so keen on next we have this one and it looks like a very familiar wrapping but the flavor is different so here's a little map of Hokkaido which is the largest most northern most Island that makes up Japan it's known for its really great Dairy and skiing Hoka melon and marscapone cheese wow look at this this has got a kind of peach color to it if youve ever had a high-u a melon high-u it smells exactly like that kind of cantal opy if you ever had the Lor Midori the really bright green melon flavored Lor smells just like that all right let's give that a go if you really like melon flavor I think you'll like that it's a bit much for me it tastes a little bit more natural than some of the other melon flavors that I've had in the past so that's a plus but but I don't really care for that flavor with my Kit Kats the crunch is really great nice and light and it is kind of creamy but that melon flavor is just too overpowering for me nice color though next let's try this one this one looks really charming and this is mumii Manu so mju is a type of dessert or sweet it's got like a cake on the outside and it's filled with red bean paste in the middle and it's shaped like a maple leaf yeah I tasted one a really long time ago I should put the link here and here and so so you can learn more about that there okay so let's see what this is like this feels like it melted a bit so it's not going to be oh surprising I thought it was going to be chocolate so you can see that the wafer is brown in color maybe to represent the red bean paste it smells a lot like Bean it's not bad it's very very different than what you might expect from a typical cookat the outside tastes like white chocolate with some vanilla but the inside tastes very strongly of red bean paste it's kind of starchy and definitely beanie but sweet I think in that one they really got the essence of the red bean paste nice all right the next one I have is this one and this is premium mint I've tasted a series of Kit Kat chunkies too so I'll put that link there and there as well and I believe I had a mint version it was quite a long time ago and it was from the UK but it was delicious but I've never had it in the original Kit Kat form so let's see what it's like oh sadly this one is melted too but it'll still taste good so there's the wafer inside and a beautiful green color and I can already smell the peppermint oh I'm going to like this one I love the combination of chocolate and mint my mom on the other hand really despises it she says it tastes like toothpaste why would you ever eat anything like that and I just say because it's delicious M really really good very clear pronounced peppermint flavor crispy wafer and then you've got chocolate that holds everything together literally and figuratively and they were really smart about the chocolate they chose it's a bittersweet chocolate that has less sugar in it but it just ties everything together it adds some richness slight bitterness and just Divine it's definitely all about the peppermint crunch here so good so the next series of Kit Kats are from the Chocolat or which is a series of shops that are in Japan that are are just completely dedicated to Kit Kat flavors right amazing someday I will go so the first one I have is this very fancy Charming looking package and it says Chocolat connoisseur champagne raspberry oh wow somehow I wasn't expecting it to be dark chocolate snap it so the wafer looks like it's a vanilla but in between the cream is Pink wow so they put a lot of effort to capture that champagne flavor this Kit Kat is slightly tart and it kind of makes your tongue kind of pucker I wouldn't say it's delicious because there's a raspberry flavor in there as well it's a bit confused I would say as a Kit Kat so I think what surprised me initially so much was the tanginess this Kit Kat bar is tart mhm and it tastes kind of whiny and almost spiced very unusual flavor I don't think I would classify it as enjoying it but I can appreciate the effort two Kit Kat tasting flavors ago I tasted Kit Kat sake which was another alcohol infused Kit Kat flavor I don't know if it actually had any alcohol in it but they were trying to capture the flavor of sake but I felt that one was done really really well it really captured the essence of what sake tasted like that one was definitely more successful than this one in my opinion so shasa is named after a citrus fruit that comes from Okinawa as opposed to hok which is way up north in Japan Okinawa is fur the South so you'll see a lot of fruits and vegetables that you don't typically see in Japan because it's located in more warmer region including this fruit called chasa I actually did an em eats Okinawa video a long time ago very very comprehensive tasting so I'll put that video here and here as well two videos in fact because I had so much to taste amazing I would love to go to Okinawa someday it just seems like such a magical place okay so this one looks like it has dark chocolate in as well let's give that a snap and the wafer looks just like a typical kind of vanilla wafer ooh it smells lovely it smells almost like lemon or Yuzu and chocolate all right let's give that a go M very aromatic I have to taste that fruit I think that fruit would be amazing this kit Kat's more about an aroma very citrusy similar to a lemon or lime but almost more grapefruity Yuzu like floral and just lovely I usually don't like the combination of citrus or really fruit for that matter with my chocolate but this is really really nice very sophisticated I don't think it's a flavor I would keep coming back to but just as a little taste it's really lovely it's not sour at all it's just this flavor and perfume of citrus after the chocolate flavor dissipates you're really left with this really really nice Citrus flavor next we have this one and this is from the sublime series and these tend to be a little bit larger and include just one stick this too sadly feels melted this one's called bitter passion fruit look at this so bloomed oh well okay it's got a slight kind of yellow color to it so passion fruit if you're not familiar with it I just had my first one recently incredible beautiful flavorful tropical fruit all right let's see how this compares wow so while I don't really care for the flavors in this very much I feel like the passion fruit flavor is actually pretty mild I do appreciate the sourness the sourness actually goes really well with the chocolate which is quite bitter and hardly sweet at all so there's some very complex things happening here although in general I don't really care for this very much but still very very interesting combinations of flavors all right and for my last one we'll have this one and this is another Sublime and this is going to be bitter raspberry similar to the champagne raspberry the wafer is white and the cream is pink M mhm wow that too is very assertive like the passion fruit this one has a significant amount of sourness to it nice and tangy clear raspberry flavor great way for crunch I love the use of bitter chocolate it really livens things up and then puts your taste buds kind of into gear nice all right so that wraps up this little tasting ruie thank you again so much for sending me this package of beautiful Kit Kat flavors it was delightful and delicious and thank you guys so much for watching I hope you guys enjoy that I hope you guys learned something share this video with your friends follow me on social media leave me
