The £50 Tablet! Amazon FIRE 7 with Alexa Review _ The Tech Chap

**Amazon Fire 7 Tablet Review**

The Amazon Fire 7 tablet is a new addition to the company's lineup, offering a robust and durable device that's perfect for kids, students, or anyone looking for an affordable Android tablet. The biggest addition on this new model is support for Alexa, Amazon's friendly digital assistant, which allows users to play music, turn on smart home tech, ask questions, and more.

While the Fire 7's design hasn't changed much since its predecessor, it has become thicker and chunkier, with a thick bezel that makes it look like a 2015 tablet. However, this ruggedness and durability make it an excellent choice for kids or anyone who wants to throw their tablet around without worrying about damage. The tablet also comes in four different colors: black, red, yellow, and blue.

The Fire 7's screen is its only major drawback, with a 1024x600 resolution that may not be the sharpest. However, since it's an IPS panel, the image still looks reasonably nice, and you get decent viewing angles. Additionally, while there's no ambient light sensor on this tablet, adjusting the brightness manually is a minor annoyance.

One of the most significant differences between the Fire 7 and other Android tablets is its software. It runs Amazon's own Fire OS software on top of Android, which means it has access to the Amazon Silk web browser and the Amazon App Store instead of Google Chrome or the Google Play Store. This limits the number of apps available, but you still get access to entertainment and media apps like Netflix, Facebook, Spotify, and more.

If you're a little more technically minded, you can always route the tablet and install stock Android, which gives you access to the proper app store and a slightly less cluttered interface. This feature is perfect for those who want to make their own modifications or use the tablet for heavy-duty tasks like gaming or video editing.

The Fire 7's camera capabilities are also worth mentioning, with two megapixels on the back and a front-facing VGA camera. While these cameras may not be the best quality, they're still functional, and you'll get something that can take photos and videos.

In terms of battery life, Amazon claims an extra hour compared to its predecessor, but in real-world testing, I found that watching Netflix for 13% of the battery life translates to about three to four hours of screen time. This is still a decent amount of time, especially considering the tablet's price point.

Finally, the Fire 7 comes with 8GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB using microSD cards. You also have the option to buy the tablet without special offers, which removes ads from the device.

Overall, I think the Fire 7 is a great value for money, especially considering its price point and Amazon's claim that it's not an iPad. While it may not meet high expectations, this tablet will pleasantly surprise you with its performance and features. If you're looking for a budget-friendly Android tablet without breaking the bank, the Fire 7 is definitely worth checking out.

**Comparison to iPads**

One of the biggest misconceptions about the Fire 7 is that it's an iPad, but that couldn't be further from the truth. While both are tablets, they have some significant differences in terms of design, software, and features. The iPad is a premium device with high-quality materials, a more powerful processor, and access to the Apple App Store.

In contrast, the Fire 7 is a budget-friendly Android tablet that's designed for everyday use rather than heavy-duty tasks like video editing or gaming. While it may not have the same level of performance as an iPad, the Fire 7 makes up for it with its durability and ruggedness.

**Conclusion**

The Amazon Fire 7 tablet is a great value for money, offering a robust and durable device that's perfect for kids, students, or anyone looking for an affordable Android tablet. While it may have some drawbacks, such as a lower-resolution screen and limited app availability, the Fire 7 makes up for it with its Alexa integration, long battery life, and expandable storage.

If you're looking for a budget-friendly alternative to iPads or other high-end tablets, the Fire 7 is definitely worth checking out. With its affordable price point and feature-rich design, this tablet is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a reliable and functional device without breaking the bank.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso this is the new 2017 Amazon fire seven tablet and it's 50 quid or $50 most tablets under a hundred pounds are a bit iffy but considering this is $49.99 and quite often even cheaper on Black Friday or prime day on Amazon this is ridiculously good value for money so first of all what's new on this 2017 version of the fire seven well honestly not a whole lot it looks the same feels the same it's got basically the same seven-inch screen in terms of size and resolution it does not have an IPS panel so you do get slightly better contrast ratios and better viewing angles compared to the older versions of the fire seven tablet but the biggest addition on this new model is support for Alexa Amazon's friendly digital assistant which you might know from the Amazon echo speakers Alexa tell me a joke so you can use Alexa to play music or turn on your smart home tech asking what the weather is the news updates what's in your calendar the usual sort of digital assistant things so Alexa is nice to have but I don't really think it's a big enough reason to upgrade for me at least if you already own one of the older fire 7 tablets and chances are if you've got an Amazon echo or any of the fancy smart home tech that you might want to use to sort of turn it on remotely with your voice you probably only have a tablet and probably even a better one than this now side by side with the older Fire 7 tablet it is hard to tell the difference it's still quite chunky and the thick bezel makes it look like a 2015 tablet but what it lacks in se premium design I think it makes up for in ruggedness and durability I'll be much more comfortable giving this to a kid to play with and then expensive and fragile iPad my only real issue with a 7-inch screen which looks fine is just the 1024 by 600 resolution but because it's an IPS panel it does still look reasonably nice and you do get decent viewing angles but as I say it's not the sharpest there's also no ambient light sensor so you have to adjust the brightness yourself manually which again isn't the end of the world but it's just slowly annoying so the big question I get asked a lot about these tablets is since it's running Amazon's own fire OS software on top of Android can it the apps I want well the fact is iPads and Android tablets have access to a much bigger App Store's for example on here you get the Amazon silk web browser and Amazon App Store rather than say Google Chrome or the Google Play Store the good news is that it does support most of the big entertainment and media apps so you get Amazon Prime video Netflix Facebook Spotify and as you'd expect for an Amazon tablet they're pushing their own services pretty strongly so you don't need a Prime membership but to get the most out of your Fire tablet you could do with having one and that does add to the price of fair bit if you are a little more technically minded you can always route the tablet and it's still stock Android which does then give you access to the proper app store and then slightly less cluttered interface elsewhere you get a two megapixel camera on the back and a front-facing VGA camera so you get two cameras but as you would expect they are pretty awful but at least you get something you also get a mono speaker on this which doesn't sound great serviceable and actually the big fi HD 8 and the HD 10 tablets offered stereo speakers so they do offer a little bit better sound experience but obviously use the headphone jack where possible at least it still has one just plug in a good pair of headphones and you're good to go in terms of battery life amazon say you'll get an extra hour on the new kindle versus the old version i found that an hour of netflix on this used about 13% of my battery with brannis set to 15% so you could definitely watch three to four movies on a single charge with this handy for a long flight movie so this is the 49 at 99 version comes with eight gigs of storage but for a 10 and more you can get it with 16 gigs I probably stick with the eggy buy model because it's also supports microSD cards so you can just expand your memory up to 256 gigabytes you've also got the option to buy the fire 7 without special offers which is basically Amazon's polite way of saying without ads the fire 7 also comes in four different colors I've been really boring and gone for the black on but it's also nice to have some other options including red yellow and blue for 50 quid 50 bucks this is a great Buy and it's ridiculous a good value for money as long as you know going with super high expectations this is not an iPad but those are often five six times the price of this I think the five seven will pleasantly surprise you so I've put a link in the description below if you want to find out more or even buy one of these let me know what you make of it in the comments below and don't forget to click that like and sub right button down there
