Tour HGTV Magazine’s Headquarters in New York _ Creative Genius

**The Making of HGTV Magazine: A Behind-the-Scenes Look**

As we approach the deadline for our upcoming issue, our team is hard at work bringing together the perfect blend of style, functionality, and inspiration. At the heart of it all is Sherwin, who has been working closely with us to create a big cover unit that's sure to be a showstopper. With its colorful paint scheme and playful design elements, this cover is going to be one for the books.

"I thought we'd go through our past issues and try to come up with something new," explains our editorial director, Miley, who also oversees editorial direction for Food Network Magazine and The Pioneer Woman magazine. "We've done some amazing ones in the past, and I think we can top them this year." With Miley's guidance, our team is always striving to push the boundaries of what's possible in home decor and design.

Our home and style director, Jamie, plays a crucial role in pulling together every shoot we do, including house tours. "She pulls together basically every shoot," says Miley, "so I don't even know if I could describe in a short period of time all the work that she does for the magazines." With Jamie's expertise, our team is able to create stunning visuals that bring our designs to life.

As we prepare for our flea market flips column, which is an old reader favorite that we're bringing back, our art department gets to work on creating mock-ups of the stories. "This kind of looks like the real thing," explains Miley, "but it's actually all been photoshopped and designed by our team." This process allows us to get a really accurate idea of what everything is going to look like before we start shooting.

Our photo director has been on hundreds of shoots, and she knows all the tricks. "We used to wallpaper a flats," she explains, "but it was taking a lot of time and you can't get a really smooth nice coverage." So, our team came up with a creative solution by buying foam board and taping it together before wallpapering over it. This not only saves time but also makes the process more efficient.

When we're preparing props for a shoot, our assistant home editor, Sydney, takes on the task of getting them in place. "We love working with other companies to try to feature them and feature their credits in the magazines," says Miley. Recently, Sydney worked on a junk drawer story called "organizing your gender" that featured a multitude of containers and trays and bins.

Our Deputy home editor, Laura, has been instrumental in conceptualizing this shoot. "It was really fun to sort of come up with these vignettes," she explains. "I feel like each of these nice fans have a different personality." In this case, the nightstand is portrayed as elegant and refined, which adds to the overall aesthetic of the room.

As we continue to work on our upcoming issue, it's clear that our team is dedicated to bringing you the best content possible. From design inspiration to practical tips and tricks, every page is carefully crafted to inspire and delight our readers. So, be sure to check out our January February issue, which will feature many of the elements you saw in this behind-the-scenes look at how we make HGTV Magazine. doing nightstands and we are actually in the middle of changing out our set we are about to start our third and our final shot of the day one of the things we do to prep for really visual stories is our art Department actually mocks up all the stories beforehand so this kind of looks like the real thing but it's actually all been photoshopped and this is just so all the designers and editors can get a really accurate idea of what everything is going to look like so we already shot this you can see this is the real thing it looks really dark right now um this is the second one we shot today and we're about to change this one out and go on to our third night stand foreign photo director she has been on how many shoots do you think oh my God 500 so she basically knows all the tricks so can you tell us a little bit about what we are doing so we used to wallpaper a Flats the flat is the painted wall behind us and to wallpaper it was just taking a lot of time and you can't get a really smooth nice coverage yeah so we found that buying foam board four by eights taping them together and then wallpapering over that is smooth it's cheaper it's lighter and you can just slide it right in and then we just clamp it so that we'll clamp it and screw it on the bottom in this story it's going to look like a real bedroom but you can see here all smoke and mirrors so this is Sydney she's our assistant home editor so when we get him props for a shoot you are responsible for getting them in yeah well we love working with other companies to try to feature them and feature their credits in
