The Real-Time Guide to Replacing Rear Shocks: A Step-by-Step Approach
Hey guys, Chris Fix here today I'm going to be doing a video on replacing rear shocks and I'm going to be doing this video in real time, so no edits or anything. Here are all the tools you're going to need, can see there's not that many, just get up over here and we'll begin.
The First Step: Breaking Loose the Bolts
First step is going to be use a breaker bar to break these bolts loose. 18 millimeter on the bottom right at the top, here is a 15 millimeter. So breaking them loose first then I'm going in here with normal tools nothing special if you had air tools this would go even faster but I just want to show how easy this is without air tools just normal tools. So that's one bolt or actually I call that a nut, that's one nut top bolt bottom bolt pull this out dust shield on top.
We'll do the bottom first it's just easier to fit in you're gonna have to compress this a little bit slide that bottom bolt in get the nut on the bottom bolt so it doesn't slide out by mistake. We'll add loctite in a second now for the top bolt we're going to want to add loctite and right at the end here you just need a little bit not a lot compress this down allow it to pop back up slowly wiggle it to get this to fit in once it fits in hand tighten it. Get a little bit of thread locker for the bottom bolt we're gonna tighten the top nut actually the top one's a bolt.
We're going to tighten the top bolt kind of windy out today okay once you get it hand tightened take our torque wrench 65 foot pounds good now we're on to the bottom one get that hand tightened hopefully the wind isn't too much for this video. We'll see the torque wrench in here it's a tight squeeze almost there might be easier if I do it down low there we go torqued in lock tight. The bolts are in, the nut is in this is nice and solid and we are officially done.
And that's all it takes six minutes boom hopefully this video is helpful and also is interesting you get to see my real work in real time nice and easy. The idea of this was to show you how easy this really is.
