Top 10 ESSENTIAL Huawei P20 & P20 PRO Tips! _ The Tech Chap

The Huawei P20 Pro: A Review of its Key Features and Capabilities

One of the best features of the P20 Pro is its camera, which boasts a 40-megapixel sensor. However, by default, this sensor is set to just 10 megapixels. Fortunately, users can change this setting in the camera app's settings menu to access the full 40 megapixel resolution. While doing so, however, the phone loses some optical image stabilization, and video quality may not be as smooth.

In terms of photography, one of the standout features of the P20 Pro is its ability to take great photos in low light. When using the camera app's "Night" mode, users can capture a 4-second long exposure, allowing for more time for light to enter the lens and resulting in brighter and more detailed images. The difference between Night mode and standard auto mode is evident in various shots taken of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. In these comparisons, the Night mode delivers significantly better results, showcasing the P20 Pro's camera capabilities.

Another notable feature of the P20 Pro is its 6.1-inch edge-to-edge OLED screen, which provides a beautiful display experience. However, some users may find that by default, icons and text in apps like WhatsApp or Twitter appear slightly larger than desired. Fortunately, this can be adjusted using the Display settings menu, where users can toggle the View mode to change the size of various elements.

For added security, the P20 Pro includes a fingerprint reader, which is extremely fast and convenient to use. However, users also have the option to utilize face unlock, which can be registered in the Security and Privacy settings. When enabled, face unlock allows users to quickly unlock their phone with their facial features, adding an extra layer of convenience.

A key aspect of the P20 Pro's usability is its animations and transitions. The device features various animations when opening apps and swiping between screens, which some users may find too slow or excessive. Fortunately, the developers have made it possible to adjust these settings by enabling Developer options and modifying the Window Transition and Animator Duration Scales setting. This tweak allows for faster animations and a more streamlined user experience.

Finally, one feature that not everyone appreciates is the presence of the "notch" at the top of the screen. Users can opt-out of this feature by going to Display settings, tapping on Knotch, and selecting to hide it. Instead, a black bar appears across the top, effectively concealing the notch. This software solution allows users to customize their display experience to suit their preferences.

In conclusion, the Huawei P20 Pro offers an impressive range of features and capabilities, from its exceptional camera performance in low light conditions to its 6.1-inch edge-to-edge OLED screen and fast fingerprint reader. By exploring various settings and options, users can fine-tune their device's behavior to suit their individual needs. Whether you're a photography enthusiast or simply looking for a sleek and efficient Android experience, the P20 Pro is definitely worth considering.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys i'm tom at the tech chap and i want to share with you ten of my top tips and tricks for the new Huawei P 20 and P 20 Pro so if you've just bought one you can get the most out of it let's start with a quick and easy one Bob the Settings app and you'll see that the background is white but you can actually change that to black if you enable the dark and interface modes under the battery settings now since the p20 pro uses an OLED screen this may save a little bit of battery life and also it's just a bit easier on the eye especially if you're using your phone at night the p20 is a bit odd because it does have a physical home button but by default it also has Android software keys for back home and recently used ABS but that takes up a bit of space a new screen and actually you can do everything through the home bub so if you jump into the Settings app scroll down to system and then click on system navigation you've got a few different options here for me I like the off-screen navigation button which basically means you can do everything through the home button a quick tap goes back a slightly longer tap it takes use at home and the swipe right brings up and recently used apps as with all Android phones you can take a screenshot by pressing the volume down and power button at the same time you can also screen record by pressing the volume up and power button but did you know on the p20 MP 20 pro you can actually double tap your knuckle to take a screenshot or you can even trace with your knuckle a shape square a circle around an object and they'll take a screen grab of that particular area and then you can adjust the size and shape the screenshot and save it to your gallery pretty nifty this seems like one of those pointless features I've ever seen by default if you double tap the volume down button quickly it opens the camera and takes a photo it's very unlikely you're gonna get the scene set up correctly and it's actually gonna be a good photo much more useful I think is if you go to the camera app scroll down and you'll see the ultra snapshot option change that from take a quick snap chop to open camera I think that's much more useful so when the phone is off you can then double tap the volume down and I'll just open the camera roll and actually take a picture one of the best features of the p20 Pro is its camera and it's actually got a 40 megapixel sensor but by default that's actually set to just 10 megapixels so in the camera app settings you can then change this to the full 40 megapixels you do then lose the ability to zoom in and I believe the stabilization isn't quite as good but you get the full 40 megapixel picture this way and therefore you can zoom in and the photo retains a lot more detail at the same time video is also set to just full HD by default and the p20 can shoot 4k video so again you can go to the settings and change the video size to UHD 4k if you like but do bear in mind that you do at the moment at least lose optical image stabilization this way so although it looks more detailed 4k footage is a lot more shaky sticking with the camera and another big selling point of the phone is its ability to take great photos in low light so as you can see you can just take a standard photo like this switching to night mode actually gives you a 4 second long exposure so there's a lot more time for light to come in the lens and so you get a much brighter and more detailed photo just look at the difference here between the night mode on the left and the basic auto mode on the right but though I think is a bit different here so let me show you this image this is st. Paul's Cathedral in London and once again there's a well night and day difference between using night mode and auto mode so if you're in low-light make sure you switch to night mode so the p20 Pro has a big 6.1 inch edge to edge screen it looks beautiful but I find by default the icons the text especially in apps like whatsapp or Twitter on the settings menu are just a bit bigger I feel like I want to see more on the screen at once and this is something you can change if you go to the display settings and then tap on View mode you can change the size of pretty much everything for me I like having everything a bit smaller it means there's more on the screen at once but you could also make everything bigger if you prefer perhaps if your eyesight isn't as good or if you just want to see less stuff on the screen at once and keep things simple and as you can see in the settings menu and Twitter and whatsapp there's so much more on the screen now the fingerprint reader on the p20 is really really fast I use it all the time but you do have another option and that is face unlock if you get a security and privacy and then tap on face unlock and your PIN and then register your face you can then as it says in the tin unlock the phone with your face and I'm genuinely impressed how quick and effective this is tapping the power button to turn the screen on it unlocks instantly if I angle the phone away from my face and then turn on we're on the lock screen twist it towards me and it unlocks straightaway this is really really fast and actually it's quite handy to have both security options available you can still unlock it with your fingerprint but also you have that face lock if you like pretty handy I include this in all my tips and tricks videos for Android phones and the p20 is no different it has lots of animations when opening apps and swiping between screens and I feel like we can make it a little bit faster so if you get the system settings and then about phone tap on the building about seven times I've already done this but that I'll unlock the developer options go back a page tap on the dev options and the scroll right down until you see window transition and animator duration scales this is essentially how long the animations last I reduce it to no point five times but you can turn it off entirely if you like and this just makes using your phone feel a little bit faster and finally last but not least let me show you how you can hide the knotch not everyone likes it and in the settings you can actually hide it go into the display settings and then tap on knotch and then here you can actually hide the knotch that's basically a software solution that puts a black bar across the whole top so you just get a full bezel and thanks to the p20 pros OLED screen the blacks are really deep so you really can't tell between the physical knotch and the software bezel so I hope you found that useful do click that like and subscribe button below if you did if you'd like to see more videos like this do check out my camera comparison and hands-on review of the p20 pro which are on my channel right now thank you very much for watching guys I'll see you next time right here on the tech channelhey guys i'm tom at the tech chap and i want to share with you ten of my top tips and tricks for the new Huawei P 20 and P 20 Pro so if you've just bought one you can get the most out of it let's start with a quick and easy one Bob the Settings app and you'll see that the background is white but you can actually change that to black if you enable the dark and interface modes under the battery settings now since the p20 pro uses an OLED screen this may save a little bit of battery life and also it's just a bit easier on the eye especially if you're using your phone at night the p20 is a bit odd because it does have a physical home button but by default it also has Android software keys for back home and recently used ABS but that takes up a bit of space a new screen and actually you can do everything through the home bub so if you jump into the Settings app scroll down to system and then click on system navigation you've got a few different options here for me I like the off-screen navigation button which basically means you can do everything through the home button a quick tap goes back a slightly longer tap it takes use at home and the swipe right brings up and recently used apps as with all Android phones you can take a screenshot by pressing the volume down and power button at the same time you can also screen record by pressing the volume up and power button but did you know on the p20 MP 20 pro you can actually double tap your knuckle to take a screenshot or you can even trace with your knuckle a shape square a circle around an object and they'll take a screen grab of that particular area and then you can adjust the size and shape the screenshot and save it to your gallery pretty nifty this seems like one of those pointless features I've ever seen by default if you double tap the volume down button quickly it opens the camera and takes a photo it's very unlikely you're gonna get the scene set up correctly and it's actually gonna be a good photo much more useful I think is if you go to the camera app scroll down and you'll see the ultra snapshot option change that from take a quick snap chop to open camera I think that's much more useful so when the phone is off you can then double tap the volume down and I'll just open the camera roll and actually take a picture one of the best features of the p20 Pro is its camera and it's actually got a 40 megapixel sensor but by default that's actually set to just 10 megapixels so in the camera app settings you can then change this to the full 40 megapixels you do then lose the ability to zoom in and I believe the stabilization isn't quite as good but you get the full 40 megapixel picture this way and therefore you can zoom in and the photo retains a lot more detail at the same time video is also set to just full HD by default and the p20 can shoot 4k video so again you can go to the settings and change the video size to UHD 4k if you like but do bear in mind that you do at the moment at least lose optical image stabilization this way so although it looks more detailed 4k footage is a lot more shaky sticking with the camera and another big selling point of the phone is its ability to take great photos in low light so as you can see you can just take a standard photo like this switching to night mode actually gives you a 4 second long exposure so there's a lot more time for light to come in the lens and so you get a much brighter and more detailed photo just look at the difference here between the night mode on the left and the basic auto mode on the right but though I think is a bit different here so let me show you this image this is st. Paul's Cathedral in London and once again there's a well night and day difference between using night mode and auto mode so if you're in low-light make sure you switch to night mode so the p20 Pro has a big 6.1 inch edge to edge screen it looks beautiful but I find by default the icons the text especially in apps like whatsapp or Twitter on the settings menu are just a bit bigger I feel like I want to see more on the screen at once and this is something you can change if you go to the display settings and then tap on View mode you can change the size of pretty much everything for me I like having everything a bit smaller it means there's more on the screen at once but you could also make everything bigger if you prefer perhaps if your eyesight isn't as good or if you just want to see less stuff on the screen at once and keep things simple and as you can see in the settings menu and Twitter and whatsapp there's so much more on the screen now the fingerprint reader on the p20 is really really fast I use it all the time but you do have another option and that is face unlock if you get a security and privacy and then tap on face unlock and your PIN and then register your face you can then as it says in the tin unlock the phone with your face and I'm genuinely impressed how quick and effective this is tapping the power button to turn the screen on it unlocks instantly if I angle the phone away from my face and then turn on we're on the lock screen twist it towards me and it unlocks straightaway this is really really fast and actually it's quite handy to have both security options available you can still unlock it with your fingerprint but also you have that face lock if you like pretty handy I include this in all my tips and tricks videos for Android phones and the p20 is no different it has lots of animations when opening apps and swiping between screens and I feel like we can make it a little bit faster so if you get the system settings and then about phone tap on the building about seven times I've already done this but that I'll unlock the developer options go back a page tap on the dev options and the scroll right down until you see window transition and animator duration scales this is essentially how long the animations last I reduce it to no point five times but you can turn it off entirely if you like and this just makes using your phone feel a little bit faster and finally last but not least let me show you how you can hide the knotch not everyone likes it and in the settings you can actually hide it go into the display settings and then tap on knotch and then here you can actually hide the knotch that's basically a software solution that puts a black bar across the whole top so you just get a full bezel and thanks to the p20 pros OLED screen the blacks are really deep so you really can't tell between the physical knotch and the software bezel so I hope you found that useful do click that like and subscribe button below if you did if you'd like to see more videos like this do check out my camera comparison and hands-on review of the p20 pro which are on my channel right now thank you very much for watching guys I'll see you next time right here on the tech channel\n"
