How to Update Your Firmware

**Upgrading Firmware on Your Dash Cam: A Step-by-Step Guide**

Now that we've got our dash cam formatted, we can move on to the next step. If you want to power this up in your home, you can use a power bank to power the dash cam up. This is probably going to be the easiest way to get power to your dash cam in your home. I'm just going to quickly exit out of the menu and pull this out here and what I'm going to do here is remove the micro SD card so I'm going to par down the unit and remove the micro SD card.

If you've got a Micro SD card reader slot on your computer, then you can use that. But I've got a little USB adapter here which I'm going to plug it into so we can plug it into the computer because we need to be on the computer and you can get these pretty cheap this is one I had lined up I'm just going to pick this up and plug this into the slot that it goes into and then use my computer on the other end. It will have the USB connection and that's what we're going to use to plug this into the computer.

So let me go ahead and move this over to the computer and plug it in. We're now on the desktop of the computer, so what we're going to do here is get our firmware from the website. Depending on what kind of dash cam you got here, you need to go to their website and you'll see all the firmware listed here for different Dash cams and action cams. The process will be the same, just look for your firmware here and I'm just going to look for the firmware for my camera so there is so I'm just going to download this once we've got that.

I'm going to transfer that to a folder or onto my desktop so I can open it up and get it prepared for the memory card. As you can see, this is a raw file, so I'm going to open this up and then once we got that, we should have some folders inside here so once we get this open, you should see the folder here there we go and there's an advanced update here and a quick update inside here it's got upgrade and instructions to install the upgrade.

So here are the files I need to copy all these over to the micro SD card now. This is the same process for pretty much any firmware that you want to upgrade okay, and it's very important to keep the firmware upgraded on a lot of these little devices. You can see all the files now, they're on the micro SD card and I can close this off.

There we go, they're the files that we need to use to flash the firmware and this will give the hardware basically the information that it needs to flash that firmware on that device. Now that could be any kind of device which is your uh your dash cam your action cam or any of those sort of little devices that you've got here.

So I need to unplug the USB from the computer and then take the micro SD card out and put it back into our uh dash cam so I'm going to go ahead and do that now. Once I plugged that into the um dash cam and power it on, it will automatically start upgrading the firmware. It will then boot the system up and as you can see now we have got the very latest version of firmware on this dash cam.

Let me go ahead and go into the menu system here just to show you what the uh model number is on there and it will um tally up to the one that we've just downloaded. Inside here, there will be an area which will tell you what version of firmware you are using so you can navigate down to version click on that and it will show you uh the number there now.

The camera probably won't pick this up so I'll use a magnifier and there we have the number there on the screen that is the latest version of this firmware. And you can check that across uh the website there to see whether it is uh been successful at upgrading and it should be okay.

Now, we can pair it down and it's ready and updated for the next use. That's pretty much it, that's how you can flash or upgrade the firmware on a dash cam. And you can use this method for Action cams and other devices. My name is Brian from Bright computers co.uk hope this one's been helpful to you.
