iOS 17 - Don’t Panic!

iOS 17 Beta Release and Timeline

There is going to be some weird release times around these areas for both beta 2 and beta 3 due to it being a holiday weekend, specifically July 4th. This means that we should keep an eye out for potential delays in the release schedule.

As far as the first public beta goes, we usually see that after beta 3 like the following week after beta 3. So if we get beta 2 next week and then beta 3 on the week of July 3rd, it means that we should see the first public beta right here on July 10th because that is on a Monday which is when Apple usually releases the public betas.

iOS 16 and Upcoming Release

I know you guys don't care about iOS 16 as much anymore now that iOS 17 is out, but we could see a new public release as early as next week with iOS 16.5.1. This would be an early release, and I mentioned in my iOS 16.6 beta 3 video earlier this week that you might have missed it because it was a very boring update.

However, if we don't see it next week, we're probably not going to see it at all. Apple's just going to put everything into iOS 16.6, which will also likely drop in early July.

Apple News and Updates

Let's talk about some other Apple news that happened this past week. Starting in August, Apple is saying that they're no longer going to allow customers to purchase Sim-free iPhone models using Apple card financing. This means that instead, customers will have to have a carrier connection with Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile.

This is a big deal because I buy my iPhones Sim-free, and this change could be significant for a lot of people. Additionally, the first internal build of Vision OS 1.0 was published on Friday. This is just an internal build, so it's nothing that we can download yet, but it's interesting to see Apple pushing out updates just in time for iOS 17 beta 2.

iOS 16.6 Beta 3

The latest update to iOS 16.6 beta 3 was released this week, and it was so boring that I hardly even remembered to include it in this video because there's really nothing going on in 16.6 as a matter of fact. I may not even make another video for 16.6 until it gets pushed out to the public.

This is kind of where we're at with those 16.6 updates, and I normally don't do this, but that's just how things are right now.

Reddit and Apollo

The latest news involves Reddit and their stance against third-party client Apollo. The company is not backing down on their decision to force the developer to pay $20 million to stay operational. This has been a major issue for weeks, with many subreddits still dark after the initial 48 hours that they agreed upon.

What makes this even worse is that the CEO has said multiple times that they are not backing down. They're essentially calling everyone "childish" for participating in this and threatening moderators into opening their subreddits back up to the public.

This is an absolute mess, especially since Reddit's IPO is coming up soon. It's clear that the CEO is only thinking about money and not listening to the community. This is ironic, given that Reddit is quite literally a big community, and they should be listening to it more than not.
