The Retina Update to Mega Jump: A Glimpse into Get Set Games' Success Formula
We are here with Simon Sage from imore, and he is joined by Andy from Get Set games. The conversation begins with an update on the latest changes to Mega Jump, a game that has been around for three years. The developers have finally brought it up to speed with many other popular games, adding retina support, iPhone 5 screen sizes, and iPad support.
The gameplay remains largely the same as before, but it looks significantly better due to the improved graphics. Simon Sage is excited about the update, saying "it just looks so much better." The conversation then shifts to discuss the conference where Mega Jump was a major focus. Andy explains that the key takeaway from this experience has been learning how to listen to what players want and updating their apps regularly. This lesson has been applied to another successful game, Mega Run, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary.
Mega Run has been incredibly popular, and Get Set Games attributes its success to making sure they listen to their audience's needs. They have also learned that the space of premium gaming is constantly changing, and if you don't adapt quickly, you risk falling behind. Andy notes that this is a key lesson they've learned from Mega Jump's experience.
The brand has managed to maintain its staying power over time by producing high-quality art and focusing on attention-grabbing elements, such as the lovable Goofy round eyeball character that appears in the game. This focus on design has undoubtedly contributed to the success of Mega Jump and Mega Run. Simon Sage expresses his gratitude for Andy's insights into what makes a premium gaming experience tick.
The new update is not just limited to iPhone devices; it will also be available on iPads, making it possible to play across multiple platforms seamlessly. Users can download and play the game on any device, including iPods, iPhones, or iPads. The developers are aiming for an end-of-July release date, pending some final bug fixes and a significant marketing push.
Andy concludes by thanking Simon Sage for having him on the show and expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming update. He looks forward to sharing more about their game development process and experiences with premium gaming in the future.
