Good Morning from Camera Camp!
Jen and I are currently in Monterrey, California, and we're excited to be here at Camera Camp, also known as Kando, which is an incredible event that Sony has invited a bunch of world-renowned photographers to. We're not the only YouTubers here, but rather a special group, as Jen focuses on photography while I'm more into video production.
We decided to hit breakfast together, and it's where we shine in our respective roles. The menu offers all our favorite things, including yogurt, which is essential for us. Jenna got four to-go cups of coffee, but I made a mistake thinking one was coffee when it was actually water. Now, I have a cup of hot water with creamer – not my ideal breakfast, but I'll make do.
As we sat down, we spotted something unexpected – a mountain lion in the area! We were so excited to see this creature up close, and now, Jenna is taking pictures while I'm capturing some video. With her photography skills on display, it's clear why she shines at breakfast.
After finishing our meal, we took a look around us. As vloggers, one of the main differences between us and the photographers here is that you can spot us from a mile away due to our large microphones atop our cameras. I decided to introduce Brett, who is also a photographer here. "Hey Brett," I said, "can you show me your camera quickly?" He replied with his Sony A6500, which is how we differentiate ourselves as vloggers from photographers.
Brett explained that it's the massive microphones and the louder sound that make us stand out. We chatted with him for a bit before deciding to head out to meet more of the attendees at Camera Camp. Brett had already introduced everyone in his channel, so I thought we could do it as well – but then we realized he had done it!
As we continued our exploration, we met Faruk from iPhonedo. He told us about his channel, where he combines elements of gaming and iPhone use to create content like "iPhonedo." When asked about a memorable moment on his channel, he mentioned the first video I saw of his – one that didn't do much for me due to a particular incident involving GoPro Karma drones. We shared our experiences with the drone.
We then met Jason, who creates tech videos and does a lot of filmmaking stuff on Sony Alpha cameras and lenses. People know him as Mondobytes because he teaches tips and tricks in film production. He expressed his excitement about being at Camera Camp, where he can learn from others. We also talked to Kraig Adams, an urban explorer photographer who often vlogs about that lifestyle.
Next, we had the chance to meet Steve Ronin, who shares a similar passion for filming and exploring. His channel showcases his adventures as an urban exploration photographer. "Hi, how are you?" he asked, which is something I'm getting used to after attending this event.
We then moved on to a fun activity – trying to fit in an old locker from the 90s. It was surprisingly easy! After laughing and joking around, we decided it would be best not to try anything similar at home. If anyone did attempt to close that locker again, they might experience some claustrophobia.
Our next stop was the aquarium, where Jen had done introductions for most of the attendees – except for me, of course! She noticed I was zoned out thinking about life and realized she hadn't talked to me yet. "I did!" she said with a smile.
As we were inside the aquarium, exploring the various exhibits, I introduced myself as Josh from Exploring With Josh. My channel focuses on abandoned places around the world, where I travel and make vlogs. It was lovely chatting with everyone here at Camera Camp.
