The Lan Show: A Recap and Appreciation
We've just wrapped up another exciting episode of The Lan Show, and we're thrilled to have had over 5,000 viewers tune in live. We want to start by saying thank you to each and every one of you for your support and enthusiasm throughout the show. It's always great to see so many familiar faces and newcomers alike joining us on this journey into the world of gaming PCs.
One of the standout moments of the evening was when our guest builder presented an impressive water-cooled PC desk mod with a car sound system. The specs were nothing short of astonishing, with two 780 Ti's in SLI, plenty of storage, and even seven terabytes of storage space. We were blown away by the sheer scale and complexity of this build, and we're excited to see what our own team can accomplish with similar technology.
Our builder did an incredible job bringing this project together, and it was clear that they had put a lot of thought and effort into every detail. From the dual power supplies to the optical drives, everything about this build seemed designed to provide maximum performance and flexibility. We were also impressed by the level of attention to detail in the design, from the horizontal reservoirs to the custom fans.
Unfortunately, we did experience some technical difficulties during the show, including a brief outage that left us wondering if the forum was down for good. However, it seems that our trusty tech team worked their magic and got everything back up and running in no time.
One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement of our new server upgrades. We're excited to report that we'll be expanding our storage capacity to 21 terabytes and offloading some of the heavier loads. This should give us a significant boost in performance and allow us to tackle even more complex builds in the future.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank our Folding@Home team and Blink team for their tireless efforts in contributing to these projects. It's amazing to see how much work and dedication goes into these initiatives, and we're grateful to be a part of them.
In terms of upcoming projects, we've got some exciting things on the horizon. Our own team is working on a new project involving liquid cooling and fan control, which promises to be an absolute game-changer. We'll have more information on this soon, but trust us when we say that it's going to be big.
Of course, no Lan Show would be complete without our obligatory giveaway announcement. Unfortunately, the forum is still down, so we won't be able to provide any details on this just yet. But rest assured that we'll have something amazing in store for you all soon.
As always, a huge thank you to our community for your support and enthusiasm. We couldn't do what we do without you, and we're honored to be able to share our passion with so many like-minded individuals around the world. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more content like this, and tune in next time when we'll hopefully have a few surprises up our sleeves.
And finally, as a special treat for our loyal viewers, we've got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at some of the footage from tonight's show. It's not every day that you get to see the likes of couches and swamps making an appearance in our content, but trust us when we say it was worth it.
Our team is already back in the studio, getting ready for the next episode. We can't wait to share what's in store with all of you. Until then, stay tuned and keep on gaming!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwell that was fun i think we're actually live for real this time and uh you know third time's a charm yeah right so let's go through our topics extremely quickly we're gonna do the million subscriber giveaway this week on the lan show live here in front of all of you we're going to talk about apple's bendgate fiasco with the iphone 6 plus he's lost his topic introduction privileges i've covered this before but for those of you who are freshly watching this and didn't watch the first two fall starts of the show i gotta make sure i throw that in there paul and kyle have both left newegg and we're gonna have them on the show to talk a little bit about what's going on maybe we'll do some twitter blitzing and intel spent a metric bucket ton of money on their new 10 nanometer process manufacturing facility in israel or will rather it's not like done yet we can't have 10 nanometer processors yet but soon we hope see if this works yeah i don't hear any sound oh dude okay so anyway uh squarespace is one of our sponsors for the show today create your own beautiful functional website it's affordable it's scalable and it's 10 off with offer code linus also we have uh lynda.com also sponsor the show today learn expand your mind make your brain more smarter lynda.com and that is exactly how they asked me to say that here's a hint it's not so we've got a lot of great topics for this week can i help you nope okay a lot of great topics for this week there's a rumor that is on wccf tech although don't freak out it's actually originally posted by pc tuning that nvidia's maxwell gm 200 gpu could be coming as soon as q4 of this year so it's rumored to have a die size of 551 millimeter squared making it the big core in the maxwell family with over 2500 cuda core so anywhere from 2560 to 2816 and so we decided to troll you a little bit if you notice your shirt is slightly different than my shirt my shirt's better my shirt has three people and so do all of theirs hello so there's a whole bunch of shirts that have three people and if you pay a lot of attention wow logo on the back and if you pay a lot of attention to what's on the shirt there's fractal josh in the middle because he's super tall yeah and he's broke like bro fisting me yeah and then throwing a pie in your face yeah that's a pretty lame shirt well i told him i wouldn't tell you but brandon might have leaked this you're so lazy it was a complete accident actually initially he's like oh nice shirt and then and then i turned around and thinking that he are you putting a tape over mine so i have i have prepared in advance my rebuttal which is that you are fired you are no longer allowed to be on my like arm and legs are still no don't worry i'm gonna deal with you god brandon you're horrible i'm sorry it was an accident you could have at least told me well i told him i wouldn't tell you guys yeah but then i did but then wow what i want that smashback yeah get wrecked josh says if people want these shirts blow up his twitter handle i don't know if you guys heard that but apparently if you don't want the shirt bro fist we only need one bro that's just depressing no we only need one bro it's kind of sad i feel bad for you i feel bad for you you just lost your job yeah get ready i'm still here uh yes anyways so i guess we should talk about the graphics card yeah so back to that graphics card that we've talked about sort of one and a half times already um this rumor actually kind of makes sense so it's they're saying it's going to have a 384-bit memory bus approximately 50 boost in performance over the gtx titan black and that it'll have double the performance per watt of the gk110 which powered the 780 780 ti titan and titan black so this all actually makes a great deal of sense and is in line with nvidia's usual strategy of one big core a medium-sized core which we can tell just by looking at gm-204 that's what that is that's that's not the top top tier card and uh or at least the eventual top tier maxwell card and then the the trickle down keeps on going from there so um i don't know the one thing that we're both not entirely sure about is the q4 2014 launch date or or they're saying should be within two months that sounds a little bit extreme maybe yeah and i mean if that happens it'll be a compute card like a tesla or a um or maybe even a quadro maybe not a consumer grade card um although i mean who knows maybe maybe i'm wrong maybe it'll be titan too or something like that yeah could be possible all right moving on to our next also nvidia related news kingpin oh sorry that first one was originally posted on the forum by big stroons thank you for that i don't know if it's trunes or like stro no one's really sure that's something about online handles yeah like our capitals emphasis or how can you ever really get a handle on something that's just digital data well could grabbing a hard drive be getting a handle on digital data or an ssd because you're technically holding it i think this might be the longest silence we've ever had on the wan show i basically talk constantly don't i didn't we have it no because i think we had like a one minute silence for something did we i think there was yeah whatever it was it was probably something inappropriate and not something yeah actually deserved to one minute 100 i don't i think so i don't remember what it was but it like didn't make a ton of sense but we had a we had a minute silence for you that seems like the kind of thing i would do um all right so mech 777 posted on the forum that quote unquote maxwell is an overclocking monster kingpin and 10 have cracked 2 gigahertz plus this was on ln2 yeah i mean to be clear you won't be cracking two gigahertz plus unless you cool with liquid nitrogen but i got any more details while i they're running their core at 2103 megahertz and their memory at so all of that is just generally insane um again though ln2 liquid nitrogen they ran fire they got a fire strike score of 1940 and they got eight five 1940 yeah my bad and they got a firestrike extreme score of 91.91 absolutely ridiculous apparently the overclock was attributed to low power consumption yeah low power consumption i mean also any of the other optimizations that nvidia's made in maxwell there's a lot of stuff that's still under the hood with maxwell that i think they're either waiting for the bigger core to reveal i mean that's what that's what they do they tend to kind of pace the releases of their news um speaking out that's why competition's good because if there isn't a ton of competition that pace can go at whatever speed they want and if they're like well if we develop slower then we don't have to spend as much on r d and they just slow the pace down well i don't think they're doing that maybe they're there i'm saying just in general that's why competition's good i think it's just the way that the way that the um the way that the r d is being directed these days where they still have to continue to develop and stay competitive in um hpc for example so they're they still want to pump better gpu cores as fast as possible we just might end up with ones that are more compute optimized and this has been happening over the last few years that also happened to be fantastic for gaming as well yeah okay now that's a lot of good nvidia news but i have some very unfortunate nvidia news as well this is something that's not actually on the dock and i i noticed and i had someone assure me that it wasn't a big deal but i was pretty sure it was a big deal i noticed at their editors day that the pcs were running with shield controllers plugged into them i was like oh yeah i thought that wasn't pc compatible at least not yet and so it has been confirmed by nvidia that it wasn't and the version of geforce experience and the latest driver that came out with gtx 780 980 rather now supports shield as a controller on your pc which is our shield controller not shield it's really scary when someone says that there's bad news and then proceeds to only give you good news oh yeah the bad news is coming so the unfortunate thing and this is only moderately bad news is that it doesn't work wirelessly on your computer and that makes sense because it's wi-fi direct and to my knowledge nothing wi-fi direct connects directly to your computer yet as far as i know the even the much worse news is uh where is it compatibility uh okay android devices etc okay it only works on their own android devices which i kind of get again wi-fi direct whatever games controllers can i use the shield wireless controller with a pc yes the shield wireless controller is compatible as a wired controller with windows 7 or windows 8 running geforce experience wow so just for just for giggles i tried to install geforce experience on a computer that wasn't running a geforce graphics card it goes no supported hardware and boots you out so the only way to install the driver for nvidia's like game controller is to have an nvidia graphics card in your system this is extremely offensive and i think if you install um just judging from over uh graphics card overclocking and testing if you install geforce experience with an nvidia card plugged in and then swap it just won't run that's right so this is this is incredibly disappointing to me i don't understand why nvidia wouldn't want anyone to enjoy the experience of using their controller i don't i reached out to them for comment two days ago i gave them two days to reply to my message about this and i was like what's going on yeah i was gonna say they might have just overlooked it they would have just bundled it into the geforce experience driver so we will update you guys next week on when show if we hear back anything else or i'll try to i'll try to tweet it out when i hear back about it but for now you can't just install a driver and to my knowledge there's nothing about the controller that would make it not work like maybe the touchpad might not work or something if uh if you didn't have geforce experience it should just work as a standard controller how would geforce experience affect the touchpad well i i don't know like it might be some kind of emulated mouse something like that should be able to just be in a driver you would think that but i can see why that might take longer to implement for example because the rest of the way the controller works is exactly like a standard xbox controller yeah i just don't see what your geforce experience does that would have anything to affect the touchpad so it would be nothing in this driver through geforce experience or implementing the driver through standalone or not because they do some funny stuff with things like mouse control over shield and stuff like that like it depends how it was implemented so i don't know i'm just saying i don't know i'm not saying that definitely it wouldn't work whatever the point is that it should at least work as a controller that's it and the fact that they're not allowing it to do that is just super crappy i mean think about think imagine this for a second let's say uh someone who wants to use oh i don't know steam in home streaming on an ultrabook and happens to have a g-force powered gaming machine elsewhere in their house and thinks oh great i'll just use my controller i'll plug it into my to my notebook and then i'll stream to myself from my freaking geforce pc that will not work and that is a huge oversight from nvidia i'm extremely upset about it i just think this is locking things away for the sake of locking them away as opposed to for the sake of maintaining the end users experience which is what i do believe they do do a lot of the time unfortunately this is evidence that not everything that they do is necessarily for the sake of making sure the end user has a good experience because this is not a good experience and there's no reason for it again they could have possibly just there could possibly be a reason we will update you if there's a reason i haven't heard back yet i more thought of it as an oversight but we will see so there you go oh yeah we said we would pull them in at around five did we all right so let's bring in our guests shall we we have paul formerly of newegg tv and kyle formerly of newegg tv now of paul's hardware and awesome sauce news boy are they ever ugly hey i think that's extremely that's that's awesome sauce network for you sir so what you do more than news now is that your thing yes exactly it's a bit more all-encompassing than uh than the news tag line all-encompassing you say what do you encompass by the way okay so for those of you who aren't familiar with these jokers we've got kyle right here and paul right here and they will be living between us i swear i don't know why i signed up for this really and they'll be completely replacing luke yeah did you notice these shirts i actually been wearing this all day i didn't even know that anything was going on with your team trolling you this is just pure coincidence so it must be it must be uh and then he got here right as you guys were revealing the the you all had the shirts on and i was like oh i've got one too this is this is how paul answered the door five minutes ago and i rolled to his house he opens there he's like he looks music i have to change my clothes what's happening over there that's very very important thank you guys for having us yes thank you thank you very much fantastic oh apparently you guys are pretty loud hold on a second i'm going to turn you all down a little bit maybe i'll just turn you down all you guys are so influential he just said y'all all right uh let's see it doesn't dislike you guys that much let's let's hear from people let's see if that uh see if that sounds okay uh you guys are also peaking a little bit so i'm not sure if that's a microphone setting or whatever else but hopefully we're all good apparently the stream died so i don't know what's up with that it doesn't look like it's dead on our side so we're gonna we're gonna continue sort of along here for a second if you push the mic a little further away yeah that could help too yeah we dropped a few frames but it looks like we are we are definitely back here so all right what the heck is going on over there oh you know just in general this all of that uh hashtag new egg gate so so yeah i guess um if you guys aren't familiar with like newegg tv uh that's what kyle and i have been doing for for quite a few years now uh kind of regular presenters on on the newegg tv youtube channel um kyle does a little bit more behind the scenes than i do but uh kind of similar to what linus used to do with uh with ncix right we have just recently um both sort of independently and then we both kind of found out that we were both kind of on the same page uh made made the decision that we were going to go our separate ways and leave new egg we still have a a a set up there so we are still we're not going to be gone completely we're still going to be participating a little bit over there kyle i was just over there today and he did the alt tab live show uh that uh is also on twitch right that was good times yes yes so you guys are going independent do you feel a little bit like um oh i don't know copycats copycats i was i was gonna say uh wasn't logan didn't know he wasn't just gonna say you guys because i've seen a lot of people say hey everyone's they've been saying we're pulling like a jerry like like because jerry is the most recent person to leave his job and to some degree uh i i i gotta i gotta go back to logan i feel like logan kind of set the bar for for all of us on that one yeah exactly we're all at the end of the day we're all copying someone it might as well be logan right exactly but um it's just kind of interesting how this this huge transition for both paul and i kind of started at the same time and uh i think it was kind of for the best uh that happened at the same time as opposed to spreading it out you know like having one big announcement at the company and then a month later somebody else is leaving um so we kind of just talked about it as like hey so paul i'm planning this and he's like really i'm kind of planning this i'm like oh wow that's kind of funny why don't we do it together or whatever so i kind of worked out that way and um you know but but still still much love to newegg they've helped me a lot that was literally my first job straight out of college they're the only people who would take me um that was so ominous discretion isn't really paul's specialty but yeah at the end of the day uh going going independent is i think a good decision for both of us um i i know i'm really excited uh this last week i've just been you know waking up at nine as opposed to seven which is always awesome the ability to just straight up the ability because before i would work 40 hours a week at new york i would come home around 5 30 6 p.m have dinner take a shower by the time i'm ready to actually start a video for my personal channel it's like nine o'clock and i'm up till 3am and got to wake up at 7 30 the next morning it's just it's a it's a mind whirl so being able to wake up write a script and conceptualize a video and shoot and edit that video and post it all on the same day is amazing it's it's probably it's a great feeling to have which i'm sure you guys are in that sort of same workflow for your channel so speaking of you know waking up and conceptualizing video and then uh you know producing it and all that stuff have you guys actually have you guys made much content since you've gone independent and how is this going to affect the the type of content that you're creating uh kyle has i i have not yet i so i was trying to get him to finish off a video last night and i didn't so uh that's still i'm gonna post there'll be a new video on my channel this evening i promise 95 of the way how are you guys planning to support yourselves i mean i think that you don't have to explain to me that um you know google adsense is not necessarily the the white knight and savior that uh that people who watch but don't necessarily create the content might believe it is what is right uh we're nowhere near neither of us are anywhere near being able to support ourselves on just the adsense revenue um i think part as you probably know part of the nature of kind of the content that we do since we cover technology we cover products that are brought to market and sold to people and that companies make profit from so as a result of that we have the possibility to um do things like pre-roll type ads uh those things that you've done um i mean obviously there's there's you gotta kind of especially when it's for your own channel versus working for a separate company you got to kind of take a step back and think okay okay if i'm going to do something like this how am i going to do it how am i going to make it as non-intrusive for anyone who's watching my channel as possible but also give give companies a chance to you know promote their products if they want to um so i i think uh i might be doing some basic simple you know like five five to ten second pre-roll ads uh for in in the near future um and then i might i might actually be doing some some writing uh for for some websites that uh do do content of of the technical nature i guess um i know none of this stuff is is set in stone yet so i don't want to say like yes i'm going to be doing this until i i know for sure i was like one big strip tease yes that's it that's our seduction but you guys are also still going to be doing some stuff with new egg correct yes yeah uh so the plan right now is that we're each going to go in one day a week and help out with whatever the regular content is and we might be doing some additional videos here and there as well uh so the the yolk show which is kind of tech news and us messing around which is kind of fun the alt tab live show are the main ones right now and then um you know the obviously the team over there is going through some transition right now at the same time so uh we need to sort of also wait and see and say okay we've taken a step back from from any kind of leadership role that we might have played before so what do they want to do next and how can we play a part in that um so yeah that's and that's the main thing i think that we wanted to communicate to people well this is a pretty huge change for both of us personally and possibly i guess also a decent change for the the newegg channel as well this was not done out of animosity towards newegg or anything anything to that effect we we still i'm still going to be ordering stuff there all the time because i can drive right over to will call and uh and yeah so there's no like major problems or anything like that it was just uh something both of us kind of kind of came to realize i think kyle had some some other personal uh family reasons and then for me i mean you if you work for somewhere for an extended period of time as great as it might be at some point you just need to decide okay i need to i need to stretch myself and reach out and try to do something that's a little bit more different or that allows me to uh i don't know like kyle was saying earlier the creativity fly fly away a little bit damn i was stretching myself and putting my arm around you and then you just abandoned me oh my gosh is that okay that you used to cover that's a giant massive waste of electrical tape you got to let that bad boy shine actually much more expensive gaff tape oh god that's a stuff so i hate to do this to you guys but skype's using up about 20 of our cpu right now and our stream is lagging to crap because we're at 100 cpu usage so i'm actually already webcam i'm gonna have to say thank you guys so much for coming on but it's kind of not it's not working for us unfortunately this relationship isn't gonna be able to for efforts so we'll we'll come on hopefully in a future episode or something like that yeah we're going to upgrade our cpu and we'll have you guys on again to just kind of be regular guests i think it's great that you came on for the announcement but i think i have to i have to let you go so thank you guys again i'm very sorry nothing personal except that i hate you no worries of course we love you guys trying to direct people to his amazon link instead of yours no actually wow i'm not watch my last video go to my channel and watch it i specifically say if you don't already have linus's bookmarks and now he's like desperately trying to plead for views he wants me to go watch his video don't watch my video please watch my videos i need that one more incremental count all right we'll see you guys later bye bye see you later guys hopefully that fixes it yeah i certainly hope it does so let's go ahead and move that screen region see what happens to our cpu usage now computer is not stoked yeah okay so look at that we are way down and hopefully we are actually encoding frames instead of dropping them now welcome back to the show actually functioning like i said guys there wasn't really anything that i could do about it we had about skype was claiming 20 cpu load it looks like it was actually closer to around 35 so we went from 60 cpu to no cpu left at all and we were pinned at 100 that was brutal so i'm really sorry about that you guys we will bring paul and kyle back on sometime in the near future hopefully in the next few weeks here and we will we will dive into some topics together and have that tech chat that i know you guys want to hear and i'm really sorry about that but we got to just move forward with the show we can't have it running like that forever looks like we're not dropping frames anymore so i think yeah i think we're good i think that fixed it all right so moving on to bendgate this was originally posted on the linus tech tips forum by lars reviews and there's actually a fairly excellent thread if you're not already a member of linustechtips.com then you should probably go there because if we don't have enough members he'll lose his job again oh my wow yeah yeah that's we only have enough members i think we have enough members okay i have the one most important member that's not on the forum though no if it was i think i'd probably have to remove it but i wouldn't delete that thread i would just hide it yeah excellent excellent thread on the forum about it but basically um there's a some videos allegedly breaking phones in half made by uh one of our one of our good friends lou over at unbox therapy where because well when something is okay not at the halfway point i guess yes so the point is there were some reports of people having iphone 6 pluses bending from carrying them in their front pockets these kind of started to circulate on the internet and lou from unbox therapy made a video demonstrating how easily the phone could be significantly bent and then how the screen would crack and it would basically become useless once you bent it back to its original flat form this has been the most viral video i think on any tech youtubers channel ever and um lou posted a posted a screenshot from his youtube creators app of it at 10 million views i think the morning after he originally posted it this thing went super crazy viral but i think it's like 30 million now or something just for that one video and he's released three on the topic which are all above a million views way more and he's been doing bend tests of other things other people are jumping on the the bend test wagon i think i saw ncix post on their facebook today a motherboard bent over i recognize the board too it's the next 58 board that was a sample that we got like ages ago when i uh when i used to work there oh man uh people are saying banda 980 get more views i really don't think that would happen i think people would just call us idiots yeah and that'd be really hard to do yeah we'd have to put it in a vice and stuff i'd just rather not bend the 980 i'd rather people someone at some point game on that 980 because that's i don't believe in breaking hardware on purpose i do think particularly the original bend demonstration video was very important justified just to make people aware of the issue but along those lines apple is claiming now that it isn't actually an issue so they're saying that out of all the you know hype surrounding bend gate only nine users have actually come forward to apple about having broken their or bent their phone through regular use and they are saying that any of the phones that were able to be bent so easily in this manner um just must be suffering from some kind of materials defect and it's not a problem with the design of the phone there's a lot of other stuff kind of floating around so this is just kind of funny apple uh threw up a job posting for uh a q a sort of position that one of the things listed in the job description was was bending testing was it ashley yeah but i but again it was a joke this is this is stuff that that could have just been a regular job posting anyway i don't think it necessarily has anything to do with bendgate i think really the proof will be in the pudding are we going to see more people coming forward with bent phones um one thing that i've seen apple fanboys kind of running around saying is oh well it's aluminum so you know yeah it was going to bend anyway you know what the one i made is aluminum and um i i can't i can't bend it i can turn it on like change the volume but i can't bend the phone which it did perfectly fine while he was trying to bend it for that matter the 5s has an aluminum back it's made by apple also doesn't bend so um i think that's pretty much it there's honestly not that much to say it's a massively over exhausted topic yep i don't want to even give it that much more attention one new other thing apple says that the new phones feature steel and titanium inserts to reinforce stress locations and they use the strongest glass in the industry so okay they didn't use sapphire which we all thought they were going to use yeah that was interesting that could have been interesting because i wonder if that would have helped to resist bending i kind of did not i mean marcus's video where he has the sapphire crystal glass oh that's a good point he he kind of in his first video in particular i think he unfortunately hadn't seen corning gorilla glass 3 off of a phone before yeah so he was kind of marveling at how clear it was and how it flexed and all that but gorilla glass 3 behaves in pretty much exactly the same matter so aside from the scratch resistance i don't think yeah which wouldn't have actually helped rigidity in any way so it yeah never mind moot point so okay i hadn't heard anything about this what's going on with the cooler the evga acx 970 cooler uh yes originally posted on the forum by devilsd thank you sean um evga this is this is this is shawn's headline here evga could lose out on quite a bit of money due to trying to cut costs on their gtx 970 980 cards the original article is from e-technics and it's that evga may have used a cooler from a bigger card to save on manufacturing costs so there's a picture of a cooler taken off an evga 900 series card here and i'm gonna go ahead i'm gonna load that page eventually if i can but in the meantime why don't we just switch to the no guest view so you guys don't have to wait for it but basically what happened was the bottom sorry it started working which did there oh no no i didn't what this page is still loading yeah i just switched back to a page that works like linustechtips.com oops hey that's right get wrecked um so basically i'll just have to help you guys visualize this there's three heat pipes there we go need help with your demonstration should i be the heat pipes uh yeah you can be the heat pipes okay so there's three heat pipes and then the you can tell from the thermal paste pattern that the gpu core itself is actually only contacting two of them and one of them is not making contact with the gpu core now this has led to some speculation that evga's direct touch cooler will not work very well and could perform significantly worse than if all three heat pipes were making contact there is some truth to this direct heat pipe touch technology does make a difference and having them all touching the core would probably help but i think people are overestimating how much of a difference that's going to make remember the problem with a copper base plate on anything let's say a heat sink or yeah let's say a heat sink because that would be fairly related yeah so the problem with having a copper base on a heat on a heat sink the reason that we use heat pipes and vapor chambers instead of just using a flat slab of copper is that copper can't conduct heat away quickly enough in order to provide the best possible cooling once you build a heatsink that's large enough over short distances this is not an issue so with the dye right next to it right there and those heat pipes being the hottest part of that cooler and that next heat pipe being right next to those other heat pipes that are the hottest part of the cooler it's going to be working it's going to be doing something might not be as effective but we're talking i'd be surprised if the difference is more than a degree or two and in the grand scheme of things that's not going to be a huge deal these cars are already running pretty cool they are already running pretty cool that said you know is two degrees the difference between one boost state versus another boost state on cards that overclock themselves maybe um but i'd also suspect that having another person sitting in the room watching you game would make as much of a difference because just the heat from their body and we're already getting like load temps of around 70 on average as far as i've been able to tell with our cards yeah with non-reference cards yeah so there you go that's pretty much i guess all i really have to say about that i don't think it's as big of a deal as other people our evga did respond they said that though and i hadn't actually seen their response yet this has been added to the docs since the last time i looked at it the way the gtx 970 acx heatsink was designed is based on the gtx 970 wattage plus an additional 40 cooling headroom on top of it so they're saying about a total of 200 watts also we would like to mention that the cooler passed nvidia's green light specifications due to the small contact area of that gpu because it has a small die size we intended for the gpu to contact two major heat pipes with direct touch to make to get the best heat dissipation out of it without any other material in between them um blah blah blah etc etc etc regarding fan noise this is not a fan noise issue is more oh okay regarding fan noise we understood that some had expressed concerns over the fan noise of the evga's gtx 970 cards this is not a fat noise issue but more of an aggressive fan curve set by the default bios regardless we have heard your concerns we are going to provide a bios update that keeps the cards quieter and ramps up less aggressively with that said you can control gpu fan speeds and software so if you don't want to wait for the bios update then i would say fairly simple to do go for it especially with their i can't remember right now have you forgotten your dead to me what's the name of their software again precision precision x has a pretty good fan fan curve stuff in it so if you want to change it use their own software not too hard the verge wrote a pretty hilarious i guess i made it about two-thirds of the way through and then i got kind of bored but it was pretty funny well i can't be that hilarious no it was pretty funny they wrote a pretty hilarious piece on the fact that the next or well they okay apparently uh the fact that the next nexus tablet will be made by htc and the verges article was full of you know lovers quarrels and all this kind of stuff the kid the main characters are of course google htc samsung it was like a triangle no yeah it's just just kind of the the industry the android ecosystem all the different players it was pretty funny but basically that's it this was posted by ethnot on the forum and the original source here is reuters.com and apparently google has selected htc for an upcoming nine-inch nexus tablet so it looks like they're splitting they're using htc for the tablet and i believe they're using uh moto motorola still for their phone is that confirmed or are we speculating based on that it looks like the moto x is speculating the new generator right but it it it has like the circular flash and it has all the stuff which is very similar to them yes it does look very similar again it's still speculation but it's it's i don't know it'll be interesting using two different manufacturers so google has been mulling htc as a potential partner for since last year htc hasn't made a tablet since 2011 so this was announced at google i o in june it's expected q3 2014 and it will apparently be powered by the tegra k1 which is extremely good news because something that i noticed i don't know if other people noticed but a non-tech had a great article on the iphone 6 and iphone 6 plus performance and of all the android devices that were in the performance charts the one that really hung with the iphone 6 and the six plus was the nvidia shield tablet which is based on the tegra k1 with and that's in terms of cpu in terms of gpu the k1 blew away everything yeah just absolutely demolished everything else nvidia so i'm i'm excited about that the problem with the k1 the big like i i wonder if nvidia had hoped that k1 would be suitable for phone use but the problem with the k1 is that the thermals are just not really suitable for that and they're more optimal for tablet use at this time so at least we can have fast android tablets as fast as the fastest apple devices um just not smartphones yet i'm also not surprised that the k1 is heavily focused on gpu i am why nvidia yeah i mean they're all about stop trolling you're so genuine with that i am i was like did i miss something what did i do holy crap i said something stupid no no you didn't say anything stupid you just wore something stupid that's why you're dead to me no dead to me speaking of dead to me uh watchdogs is turning into a franchise they are not dead at all oh that's a terrible segway i know i could have said a lot of different things about i could i could have tied dead to me into watch dogs and ubisoft in a lot of different ways yeah yeah let's say check the hard way rather than saying that you know i missed an opportunity why don't we say i had restraint there we go i know what i'm down with that oh all right because usually we do the digging thing at any rate uh this was originally posted by dlf on the forum i couldn't tell if it was diff different glf and the original article is from computer and video games and ubisoft montreal's well we're just staring at the dock right now vice president of creative of creative that's a thing is it maybe not uh anyway has said that although the game has its flaws he feels it succeeds in establishing a brand and promise for the future that's an awkward way to do that i'll let you talk now i'm i'm taking off the dead to me thing oh yeah okay so so it's flawed but you know we believe in it it'll be okay well hopefully we won't completely screw it up next time and then you guys will hopefully like it or we'll just say this and you'll buy it and then we'll just keep moving on anyways because we're ubisoft they did make a good point they brought up that assassin's creed one had a lot of complaints about it and was hardly a perfect because they gave it like no budget and cut it off early so they didn't have time to develop missions for the rest of the game so they just reused missions from previous parts of the game but the point was that assassin's creed ii sold just fine in spite of the complaints about assassin's creed one sold it was a great game i loved assassin's creed it was really good but yeah and there was very valid complaints about assassin's creed one which i also liked because you you did like the first three missions then you just basically repeated that for the entire rest of the game um so i don't know if they do the same thing that would be fantastic because that means the next watchdogs would be really good assassin's creed 2 was great but i don't know because it did look like watchdogs got a much larger budget than assassin's creed one oh yeah it did and that was the main problem with assassin's creed one it was it was the fact that they ran out of budget but i mean the way that the statement was phrased i think is i think is is pretty good where basically he says okay there are three flaws which is good you know we want to tackle those flaws and surprise players uh we need to be careful not to change the things people liked and addressed the things that they didn't like and hopefully you know particularly from a pc gamer's perspective that's going to happen right starting at the beginning of the development process when the pc gets treated like a priority as opposed to not even an afterthought you can't even call it an afterthought that's what's terrible about it yeah it was with forethought and malice allegedly that they nerfed it um so hopefully we won't see that happen again and watch dogs 2 will be the only thing that scares me about this is that we've had ubisoft tote rah-rah we're going to make it better in front of us before and then just completely ignore it when the time fraction came to be so so this is great i hope it happens but i'm not i wouldn't throw any bets things can change though i mean i think i brought this up on one show before so i won't talk about it for too long but talking to the directx lead at microsoft when he showed up at the at the nvidia event he was like yeah we have a different culture now you know like i'm encouraged to be out here talking to journalists and and engaging with the community about the direction of direct 3d when before it was it was very close-knit much more cloistered yeah and so i i don't know i i basically because i i kind of grilled him a little bit actually some things that i knew he wouldn't know but i just wanted to kind of someone who might have some influence there let's just beat him up while he's down and i kind of went man why didn't halo 1 get multiplayer co-op and he was like i legitimately don't know that and i'm like man why do they keep recommitting to us and then do this master chief edition not coming to pc what the hell is that so i basically just went man does microsoft even care and all he could really say was microsoft is changing and he he spoke very earnestly about it he seems like a great guy mr nadella has been making a crazy amount of changes he's not a pr guy he's a technical guy he's a programmer always cool so i don't expect him to give me a pr response but he seemed genuinely convinced that microsoft is on a great track and cares about gamers and the other thing he said is that his team has always cared and has always been watching the very few amount of dx like announcements and demos that you're able to watch where those guys are up on stage allowed to talk they do seem like they care a lot yeah and he was telling me like there's guys there's there's two amount of those you know four thousand five thousand dollar gaming rigs at home like these are pc gaming enthusiasts at least some of them and he kind of went you know yeah we're we're optimistic you know we we believe in the future so so who knows maybe ubisoft who hasn't gotten a new ceo or really changed it all hopefully they do those things so speaking of changes corsair changed the branding on their gaming peripherals and we might have all collectively freaked out a little bit too much probably but let's just let's just go through the saga here so uh here's this video they made with like some soldiers this is i think just the outro for it like have you watched the video no actually it's pretty over the top the production values are like pretty good like i have no idea how much that cost just looking at that animation yeah so they released uh a new a new brand for their gaming products oh i'm not logged in so that's not working winners everything is broken everything is broken something something something something something everything is broken all right so they um they redid their vengeance branding the old sort of yellow vengeance logo that we would find on older corsair gaming products i used to have a keyboard in here but i took it out of here for a b-roll or something so i don't have it at the moment um and then they redid it so instead of having the corsair sails and then vengeance has kind of a separate sub brand they created this um kind of two-crossed blade thing that ends up looking kind of like a tribal tattoo that would belong on the small of your back or like a klingon bat lift uh with a little heart in the middle of it like there isn't there aren't really many great ways to to look at it i saw a crazy crab holding swords with a heart on his head yeah yeah that's that's another that's another way uh bad people suggest that it's kind of like a crabberang yeah so it's a batarang but but it's a crab that's funny there should be there should be crab man um yeah that would actually make a great one extremely strong arm and one really good not strong one that would make a tremendous like cartoon network show it's like crab man and he's just always like an ass to everyone i'll save you but i won't like it yeah yeah yeah yeah anyway so they they took away the sales they took away corsair vengeance sub brand and now it's all unified under corsair gaming they made a big hubbub about this which i actually wonder if ended up working against them they had press releases pr statements they redid all their packaging they took new products like the rgb series keyboards and packaged them with this new core corsair gaming brand they took existing products like their 1500 headset and 1300 headset we actually have a bunch of them in the hallway and they repackage them under the new branding redid the industrial design on the products like this was not a cheap initiative for corsair to undergo this rebranding process and then the community freaked out there was a change.org petition which i really feel like was a little over the top i mean change.org change.org positions are a little bit over the top okay fair enough um pc master race the the subreddit was explosive uh the threads on linus tech tips are many many many posts long discussing this and i think that basically all there really is to say about it is i don't really like the logo either me neither i released a video about it last night i don't think it's great um but something that i actually didn't realize until i was talking to someone at corsair about the video we made last night where it's kind of a troll video we show how to mod your keyboard and take the logo off and put something else on i was talking to someone from corsair and i kind of went yeah realistically i think everyone's going to forget because it only it takes this conversation we're having now for me to remember how much i hated the vengeance logo when i first saw it and i still hate it i think it's horrible i think that font i think the bright yellow was never good and that's something people are forgetting as well they're upset about the yellow in the gaming logo vengeance was already yellow branding yeah that said they didn't put vengeance on the product it was mostly on the box yeah that's true which helps a lot but i'm just saying i think that people will kind of forget about it eventually and who knows maybe i mean vengeance was only with us a few few years who knows maybe they'll rebrand it again at some point but i think that this was very much an overreaction i think corsair responded to it in the best way that they possibly could with yellow beards post yellow beards post so k70 rgb keyboards with red switches cherry mx red switches that already had the original logo will continue to exist for some time so people who really want the original logo on their keyboard can get it and then the other ones will have the corsair gaming logo so if you want blue or brown switches okay 65 or k95 the 10 keyless and the one with macro keys then you'll be you'll have to have the new logo and honestly if you do really hate it the guide line is posted is actually not even that bad just get a flathead screwdriver take it off like you can get rid of that glue residue pretty easily you can put like a cool decal there or something yeah put a cool deco fill it up with plasti-dip do something like it's it's not that hard to fix yeah so i i'm actually i'm amazed they got over seven thousand signatures on the keepfield logo petition oh man yeah so we wanna do like interesting topic or like deadpool yeah let's go with interesting time okay cool all right so we just got 14 nanometer so intel is is just now releasing products what is it core m or whatever it is yeah the the the mobile one yeah broadway yeah yeah so these like super super low power we're talking core i5 dual core class processors with beefy dedicated graphics in like fanless tablets like pretty cool stuff we just got those and now in the news intel's planning to spend another 6 billion this time on a 10 nanometer fab every single time they go down in manufacturing process everyone's like oh this is it they can't go any further there's no way technology can advance we've hit the end boys this is this is as far as we can go and then come outside yeah yeah a couple months later new manufacturing plant billions of dollars have been spent and they're gonna make smaller ones it's like okay cool so this was posted by jerokee on the jericho on the forum um you know it's funny along the lines of what you were just saying i remember my my um my ssd folsom campus tour yeah when i got to visit intel that one time and um i remember walking into a room where they basically said don't take any pictures or film anything in here and i kind of went why and it turned out that the whiteboard and like the drawings on it were and i think it's late enough now yeah 3d 3d nand is here 3d transistors are here but that was like the plan for for 3d you know i was like really that's cool it's like internal it's like drawings on a whiteboard i was like that is so cool yeah i'm geeking out right now i don't understand any of it but it's still awesome but it's still freaking cool yeah and i remember asking them questions in my interviews you know we keep hearing about the end of moore's law we keep hearing about how flash isn't going to continue to get higher density or whatever else and i think if you look at sort of a short term past sort of if you take a short term past chunk it might look that way i mean the iphone 6. if you look at devices if you look at it still comes in 16 gigs if you look at solid-state storage on its own though it is getting massively larger it is um but looking at phones and devices and stuff like that no but to to go back to the kind of growth we were seeing before i think we're gonna have to wait a little bit because that's about to happen again you we look at what they're capable of doing with ddr4 for example with some of the new uh the new dye stacking technologies you look at what samsung is doing with their new 3d nand where they're taking instead of having you know 20 nanometer class nand that's spread out horizontally they're stacking 40 nanometer class nand to get the same capacities and better reliability and better speeds with about the same raw material so they take that technology they shrink that down whoa capacities are not done yet every time that we feel like we hit some sort of wall someone goes oh hey if we climb it in this really weird way we can keep going that happens like every single time it'll make no sense and someone will come up with an alternative it will make tons of sense and we will keep on going and it's intel almost every time it's funny because i got called out on our fastest possible about process technologies manufacturing processes for like um favoring intel or like fanboying over intel because i brought up uh basically i alluded to their tick-tock um their tick-tock development process and i also i don't know what's going on with my computer and i also brought up the core m as my example of 14 nanometer processor but i went back and looked into it intel has been first to every process node over like the last 20 years and they hit a new one like every two years that's like not awkward yeah that's not a real point of debate yeah it's it's just a thing they're developing different like processors that different price skus and all that different architecture different architectures optimized for gaming yeah device for tablets yeah you can definitely debate all that kind of stuff but manufacturing they developed this thing at this date and then that's what happened there's i don't know there's facts posted by red round two on the forum the original article from anantek we actually um alluded to this just just a moment ago but the iphone 6 and iphone 6 plus our benchmark monsters so there you go there's the iphone 6 iphone 6 plus the 5s shield tablet windows phone are we going to find an android device that doesn't have a tiger k1 in it here we go oh boy so they are they are wrecking machines and they don't do that well in every single benchmark but they are at or near the top of the charts pretty much across the board so yeah the newest phone does the best things yeah i was gonna say as exciting as this might be and as great as it is that we're getting faster and faster mobile devices i think that the people who are disappointed in the iphone 6 are the same people who were disappointed in the galaxy 5s but just that happened to carry something with an apple logo in their pocket versus something with a samsung logo in their pocket i think we're all getting disenchanted with smartphones all the same time i am like hardcore that's that's a thing i i think we've talked about how phones are going through the same thing pcs did um but they're going through the same thing pcs did over like an extremely long period of time and they're like surpassing where pcs are at but then not getting that thing where pcs kind of dwindled for a little while and now we're awesome again i don't think they're really getting that and i don't know if they are going to no no the future for phones is definitely going to be in interface design and not in hardware at least over over the next little software usability hci which is called uh human computer interaction so just like how you use your phone uh like natural paper thing that android's trying to do all that kind of stuff is gonna be a really big deal yeah wearable devices i'm really disappointed in the moto 360. now that the reviews are out um i i actually walked into a best buy the morning of the launch kind of not really thinking about it i'd been napping in the car that was driving me from the airport to the nvidia event and i walked in i was like holy crap it's moto 360. do you have any and the guy at the till said yes so i just about bought one right there just so i could review it if nothing else and now i'm kind of glad i didn't because the thing that i was expecting it to disappoint me with is exactly what it's disappointing everybody with battery life yeah but it didn't need to it just did what was the size of the processor 40 nanometers yeah it was from 2010 or like ancient chips what are you doing um i mean the the the issue though and there there could be a hundred reasons why they would have gone with that processor there's also a hundred reasons not to there's a hundred reasons not to but there's there's a hundred reasons why they might have had to yeah but the the cold hard truth is until we get dramatically better batteries the only smart watches that will matter to me will be the ones with e-ink or murasol displays i don't want to charge my smart watch every single day yep i charge this every four days or so that's probably fine i would like seven i would like it to be a week some people get a week out of the pebble i don't because i'm a heavy user yeah um but the main thing for me is when you're at that awkward dinner and you just want to know how much longer you have to sit there across from that weird family member who you only have to see once a quarter or so and you want to glance at your wrist just freaking know what time it is that's important to me it's not a timepiece unless it does time well first that's true that's very true um luke pointed out to me a smart watch that's coming that has a transparent display over an analog watch face and this is something if you go back a whole bunch of lan shows like quite a few i was like they need to make an oled panel that goes on top of a normal freaking watch and can just turn on and give you notifications every once in a while so it can completely go off and you can just see the normal watch face under it because that's what a lot of people are going to watch kind of want because that is going to look super super classy and a lot of people want their high-end looking very nice mechanical watches and apparently it has happened speaking of wanting watches to look super super classy um kind of kind of funny story uh there are a lot of people who seem upset that apple's iwatch or whatever they end up calling it apple watch i guess so that apple's watch is going to be expensive it's like yeah how did you not see that coming how did you not see that coming watches that literally have no justification for being expensive are expensive watches are a fashion statement fashion statements are expensive yep watches and it works apple turned the phone into a fashion statement in a big way i mean they weren't they weren't the pioneer of it i mean motorola did a great job with the razer but apple turned the smartphone into the ultimate phone fashion statement but watches they don't even have to do any work people will already spend a thousand like normal people who work normal jobs will spend a thousand two thousand three thousand dollars on a watch that happens i know that technophiles who expect every thing that they own to be broken down in terms of the bomb cost like the cost of the raw materials that went into it i know that we don't necessarily accept that and if you look at me it's not like i'm i'm someone who wears a thousand dollar watch i expect things to be practical i expect them to have an actual value and an actual cost associated with making them but a lot of the world doesn't work that way no and apple would be foolish not to leverage that and that's why i've been saying we need those mechanical oled panel watches because those are going to be crazy expensive and that's what a lot of people are going to want to buy i don't want one way too expensive yeah that's what a lot of people are going to want i'd like to do a review of one even if we can just get a loner one for a little while but yeah speaking of a review uh i had a few people questioning my instagram post earlier today where i showed off my new 300 usb 3 cable i bought that thing what well i guess it'll be a review it'll be a review um but there's a justification for it it's the coolest usb 3 cable that has ever existed the highest tech usb 3 cable that has ever existed and it is a fiber optic usb 3k in fact it doesn't even adhere to the usb 3.0 standard there is no standard for a fiber optic usb 3 cable so the packaging's hilarious it says usb 3.0 optical so it's a 30 meter so it's literally 3.0 get it get it get it so this is a 100 foot usb 3 cable and i actually have a plan for something really cool that i'm going to do with it that all that i'll show off to you guys and that i think will make some sense at least to people who appreciate minimalistic design so so stay tuned for that there is a reason for it i haven't just completely lost my noggin all right uh amd india do you wanna do you wanna go through this one while i figure out what's going on with my internet connection here sure uh so that big announcement that everyone was talking about that was gonna happen on september 25th from amd it was like super exciting from amd and like oh my god it's probably gonna be a 390 or 390x nope nope nope they're bringing some graphics cards to india um so i don't actually know what ones it looks like mainly workstation cards so they're bringing a amd firepro w8000 and amd fire pro w9100 and gcn powered radeon r9 285 so they are bringing a 285 and then two workstation cards so yeah that was that super exciting announcement that was gonna happen on september 9100 does have 16 gigs of ram that's pretty freaking cool speaking of ram capacities continuing to grow yeah but it's weird when they're blasting a big announcement to north americans and europeans about like if they if they blasted this in india that makes tons of sense yeah because that is a big announcement in india i think it was it seems a little unintentional to me it looks a little bit like a miscommunication at amd like someone posted big announcement maybe even in india and then it got pushed everywhere yeah some in some the the press got a hold of the indian announcement i think some individuals at amd didn't really know what to do or what to say about it felt like they had to say something and uh ended up uh they could have specifically said it's a big announcement for india because it's pretty cool for india right but it's it's it's a very tied down announcement which makes sense but it's still a very tied down announcement so they could have clarified right i don't think that would have been a problem everyone started freaking out and then they could have been i don't want to downplay it either and like make it seem like yeah our announcement's lame so but it's not lame no it is it's just location tied i mean okay okay what they say about the 16gb gpu is that it allows users and i mean this is pretty cool to multitask efficiently across six 4k displays that's pretty sick is that not cool that's pretty sick six displayport 1.2 i mean the number of megapixels the sheer data rates involved with this it's very cool yeah it's just gamers and sort of the internet in general aren't really going to care about it yeah so i think they should have they should have checked their checked their announcement a little bit there's a little bit overthrown all right display port will work through usb type c that is incredibly good news i'm actually freaking cool pretty excited about that usb type-c is looking like it's going to be badass i'm just really hoping that connector is solid i know that's the only thing i'm worried about i was talking to uh to ryan smith from an on tech we were in the uh the shuttle on the way back to the airport together and uh i we were talking about usb type c and and because they had an article about it they were hands-on with it and i was like did you did you see it did you touch it he's like no no but i want to what oh so he specifically was okay i got it yeah yeah no someone else one of their other writers so i was we were we were just kind of speculating and talking about it a little bit we both agree that the lightning connector is probably about as elegant as it gets for a double-sided connector in terms of durability but we both maintain hope that usb 3 type c will be freaking awesome hopefully so just as a recap for you guys if you haven't already watched our fastest possible on usb type c which is now outdated because it includes displayport connectivity it is validated at up to super speed usb 3.1 so that's 10 gigabit per second bringing it back within sort of one leap of thunderbolt it can deliver up to 100 watts of power over a single cable so we're talking being able to charge your laptop over usb you can charge your laptop run a display off your laptop at the same time you can go either direction pretty awesome yep bi-directional it can it has alternate modes that support uh the use of existing uh hdmi dvi and vga adapters now that display port can be transmitted over it uh the display port over usbc carries up to 8.1 gigabit per second per lane this looks so awesome so when using all four lanes of the displayport alt mode you could drive a monitor at up to 5k resolution or up to and up to 4k uh excuse me so with existing displayport 1 cetera support up to 4k desktop resolutions with 60 frame rates at up to 30 bit color yeah so 4k usb 3 type c is a thing freaking awesome that's pretty sweet pretty stoked um we are almost out of time and we need to do the giveaway and we need to need to do sponsor spots and we need to do build blogs and we probably need to do some other articles okay well let's do our sponsors first huge thanks to squarespace for sponsoring the wan show uh yeah they're taking a little while because they're looking for network resources and then grabbing the local one that's why the scene switching is taking a while makes way more sense but if you had a squarespace website it wouldn't need to take a long time to load because squarespace ensures that your website will be functional it will be beautiful it will be affordable and it will be scalable we use squarespace for linusmediagroup.com and i don't think we've ever maintained it ever no that's actually kind of a problem yeah we need to go back and like update something it still looks beautiful and it's still entirely functional but it doesn't have all of our employees there's no headshots it doesn't include all of our shows i don't think there's a lot of missing information because i never even think about it it just works all the like screenshots from our like most bestest videos ever are like the ones we made in the first couple months of being a company i know so guys that's what squarespace does it means that you can focus on maintaining your business in other ways that don't involve micromanaging your freaking website whether it's a blog whether you have an online business where you sell something that some craft that you make or a service whether it's a portfolio promoting uh you know if you're a wedding photographer or whatever else squarespace sites work on desktop they work on mobile and they make sure that you put your best foot forward they've also got other great tools like their 24 7 tech support as well as their logo creator so instead of you know hiring a graphic design firm just to try to get started you can at least create something that looks good that you can use temporarily and get on your site and get up and running without hassle also if you visit squarespace.com linus and use offer code linus you can save ten percent and uh of course everyone who uses squarespace gets a free trial a free two-week trial i actually don't remember what uh what nick said about whether we are giving away a squarespace i don't have internet okay uh no it's okay well if we don't then we'll do two next time we have a squarespace sponsorship but every month we give a squarespace site away to someone who has signed up for a trial so they win their site for a year so that's squarespace's little way of being cool dudes this is pretty awesome actually thanks to squarespace they've actually been i think our second longest sponsor um after uh audible yeah they've been great supporters don't include how long we left razer at the bottom of the stream for yeah no no i don't mean long in terms of time period i mean going back the furthest they were one of our first non-tax sponsors yeah yeah um also lynda.com a relatively new sponsor but actually a fantastic one as well you can get a free trial by going to lynda.com show right now and you've used lynda.com so yes i've used lynda.com for quite a while to learn just random stuff uh more specifically targeted things if i'm like i need to know this thing about programming so i can do something with it i usually go to lynda.com for that my mom has used it for various things taryn one of our editors has used it to learn how to edit which is probably a good thing if he has to edit i wonder if he's using it right now while he's not working i don't know i would think so i mean his wrist is hurt that doesn't mean your eyes are broken so you can you can still learn things on the because not everything on lynda.com is just programming stuff they have tips for digital photography um so so there's and they're all taught by experts so there's tons of different things that you can learn on lynda.com uh plans start at 25 bucks a month i don't think there's that much more to say about it other than that there's no real commitment guys you can try it for seven days for free if you like it if you feel like you're learning something useful then keep on going and if you don't like it then you don't have to but we've seen here at linus media group alone that for at least two people lynda.com has provided some foundation for some skills that have turned into real employment opportunities which is i think one of the strongest things that we can say about yeah any sponsor that we have one thing that i always say about it is if you're planning on going to post secondary for programming start working on lynda.com right now and teach yourself before you go because your grades will be much higher you'll find it a lot easier i find a lot of people the first semester that they go to university for is kind of a mess because they're getting used to no longer possibly being at home how school works in different ways now and possibly certain electives that are pretty difficult or weird that you haven't done before so if you can make your your core courses easier which will be your programming courses if you're getting into programming that's that's invaluable so all right so thanks lynda.com and squarespace for sponsoring the lan show we appreciate your sponsorship i think our viewers appreciate your service and let's move on to our next topic then shall we blizzard cancels its next-gen mmo titan after seven years of development can you imagine having enough money as a company that you can work on something for seven years and then just go ah it's not turning out the way we liked it well valve trashed tf2 tf2 was like almost done and then they're like no and toss the whole thing away and then now they have what we have now which everyone kind of seems to love so they probably did the right thing and hopefully that's the same story with blizzard hopefully they just decided maybe this isn't the right direction after all and kind of pitched it or maybe they're just refocusing on wow that wouldn't even be too surprising uh world of warcraft is getting a massive graphical upgrade update with warlords of draenor and a whole bunch of other stuff is happening so it could be just can i try it again i haven't played since vanilla uh you could we're probably we're probably gonna have to actually yeah seeing us how you did that maybe not um we're probably gonna have to benchmark it when it comes out right because it'll be the biggest change in performance that that game has ever had since release that big it's just they've been pretty significant updates before but i don't think they've had one nearly this big interesting it's a pretty big graphical upgrade they have definitely had graphical updates yeah and one thing that they've done is they've just included more stuff right so there's more things to load in general especially with the new zones that came in with especially if you have longer longer draw distances longer distances uh so they've done a lot with it but i think this is the most in terms of uh actual texture files because like the characters are being upgraded a lot someone could correct me on that i could be wrong but i believe it is the biggest one they've had so far so they um they're they're talking about it actually pretty openly for blizzard which is surprising uh but they went back to the drawing board last year and now they're basically just saying well we made wow and we figured we knew how to make an mmo but here we are we're looking at this and we're not finding the fun and if it's not fun then what's the bloody point basically it's not the first time they've canceled a significant project that had a lot of hype around it yeah starcraft ghost was supposed to be an fps about ghosts i was pretty stoked for that actually a different ghost that was one of the most games that i was most hyped about ever i mean they just ripped it from reality i mean they had all that artwork of kerrigan and like that's gonna be cool nova so much for that um all right so we'll do a few rapid fire topics before we before we get into we have build logs and the giveaway yeah i know uh the 12 inch macbook air is rumored to maybe have a usb type-c port that would be very cool very unexpected i would expect apple to continue to support thunderbolt exclusively mind you with how many of the rumors about the iphone 6 were just completely out in la la land um i'd be surprised if this one's true sleeping dog sequel triad wars is going to be pc exclusive hopefully not as many bugs as there was in the console port uh led sli bridges have now been released so the ones used in the mod 24 rigs that modding competition that we checked out and that have been seen before in like nvidia showcase builds for quite some time yeah the uh here we've got a we've got a shot of them here so those sexy metal sli bridges that match the cards really well and they're also releasing two different spacings for dual card yes i saw that so they're releasing like side by side so especially if you have something like an m80x board you might want to have that and they're releasing the the like empty space between the cards i love it they're only 30 bucks for a two-way and uh 40 bucks for a three-way model which isn't that cheap but when you consider how much you've just already spent on your graphics cards i don't think it's that much of an adder yeah um yeah fantastic yep uh nintendo's quasi-qui-centennial what the heck oh okay whatever so they turned 125 on tuesday um for most of nintendo's life they produced cards toys and other random stuff and didn't transition to video games until actually the 1970s so uh pretty cool way to go nintendo happy birthday they've been doing a lot of great stuff lately actually they've totally turned around in the last little while uh even looking at stuff like their their dlc for mario kart that they're coming out with yeah absolutely fantastic they're gonna double the amount of uh tracks that there is or no they're they're 150 the current amount so adding 50 the amount of tracks a whole bunch of more racers whole bunch of new cars and they're they're continuing down that line with dlc and they kind of smash you know what you know what i like about what they did with mario kart because there's the usual argument where oh well it's dlc so you shouldn't have made us pay for it in the first place it should have been in the game they included exactly as many tracks as they normally do in a mario kart game so that complaint can just and that's a philosophy that's carrying into other games as well they've publicly said that they're not going to change that their golf game i've never played any of their golf games but apparently they have a minimum for the amount of courses and holes that will be in a golf game so every golf game nintendo has released has had a minimum amount and in the new one i think you get a hundred percent more or uh sorry i think it will be 50 more or 100 more i don't remember how many but there's a massive amount of holes in uh courses in the golf game again not really into that but people were freaking out about the dlc for that so i read up on it a little bit pretty interesting i'm down with dlc which is an actual expansion yeah i dlc because that's what dlc should be dlc is not new you know warcraft 2 beyond the dark portal would have been dlc if it was possible if it was possible and i'm totally okay with expansion packs i love expansion age of empires had dlc frozen throne was an amazing expansion back for warcraft three that's right and super good and if and if dlc legitimately builds on what was already a freestanding game adds more units adds new campaign tweaks actually i'm not sure if i how i feel about tweaking balance unless you're adding new units but but just if it enhances the game and gives brood war gives what originally had its own you know i feel like i got my money's worth out of it gives it a whole other set of that then i feel pretty good about it yeah i'm okay with that if it's like horse armor then yeah i don't know well i think okay you could say that and they took a lot of flack for that but hasn't the entire dlc industry turned into horse armor yeah and that's stupid but that's kind of our fault because people buy it i don't buy it but people buy it just stop and then it'll go away because it won't be worth creating art assets that people don't buy all right it's time dun dun dun to do the million subscriber giveaway don't even know if i can help you because my computer doesn't seem to be really getting internet oh hey it's working i'm on the uh i'm on the other writer i can help you all right so are we doing thatrandom.org or how's this happening we're going to random.org this shiz so basically we are drawing the winners for the custom-built gaming pc which i haven't gotten around to building yet but i will the custom-built gaming pc isn't it mostly built already no i haven't even touched it the video card's like on your bench i thought that was the razer one no oh no that's been torn apart oh i thought you were just like rebuilding that up and then we can't ship that case it's like got scratches and crap on it oh yeah yeah it's an engineering sample yeah yeah okay uh no no we'll find a case we'll find a good one we have a garage full of cases um so okay so custom gaming rig microsoft surface pro 3 the one that i bought to do my review and because i thought i might end up using it but i didn't really like it that much and whatever our last pro what was our last prize i don't remember ah yes we're redrawing the g550 from highlander because the person who won it never responded so the third time i think bummer for them all right so we're going to the thread we're going to draw it live uh 1 million subscribers thank you all hold on a second i gotta sign up back to here signing out scrolling down ctrl f searching wow clicking you are the most helpful person ever today viewing the random forum thread you're back to being dead taking you back off my shirt all right so the first two are gonna go to the first two people who are randomly drawn the third one we are going to keep drawing until we find someone who is a positively contributing member to the forum how are we judging that uh we're just going to kind of look at them and if we know who they are then they win this might be awkward i know we'll figure it out but maybe let's not say positively contributing let's just say contributing okay an actual member of the of the linus tech tips forum that participates for that participatory member of the forum why don't we say just for the sake of making life a little bit easier for ourselves why don't we say kind of um post count is good no no i don't want to use post count but post count doesn't matter at all but we'll we'll we'll kind of do a quick glance at their last few posts and make sure that they're actually trying to participate okay and i'm not going to be looking at anyone who started participating right when the 1 million subscriber giveaway started because i said that that was going to be a requirement and that i wanted it to be for people who have already participated without me offering them a laptop yeah yeah okay all right so let's do the first draw random.org 1119. oh my goodness min 1 119 generate so now we're going to go to page 742 in the thread click on that which this is on page 1. you can do that yeah and then oh no way that is amazing all right did you click go i mostly clicked go okay i think it i think it worked all right this is kind of a big thread i think everyone's looking at the forum yeah and everyone's probably looking at the forum right now because that will somehow affect their chances of winning i guess or something they'll be there with us oh derped refresh it yeah oh okay what page was it 742. let's make sure i got that right yes whoops yes i don't have a very good memory especially when i'm sleep deprived did you already have the thread loaded up yeah or did you load this okay everyone went to the forum the forum isn't hosted on squarespace yeah i know right okay so i really wanted to do this live but it looks like that is not going to happen i'm sorry we do like to do these draws live just so that you guys can can trust us that we can do a recorded video of it while the camera doesn't stop and we draw it there because that would be way too much production are we even going to release that i guess we can put it unlisted on the channel and like link it in the lan show doc here or something it would be a fun video oh i don't want to do a full video for that okay we'll we'll talk about it offline but um okay so in that case are you even able to do buildblocks then yes i sent you an email all right like right when the show started so it should be pretty recent to your lmg thing there we go all right here we go there's four things but you only need really two of them but if you download it you because you probably won't be able to view it in your browser you can try but i expect no so there was one choice by the community and there's one choice by the staff i don't know why that happened because i told them considering there were so many entries there should be like way more than one from each but apparently there's one from each so we're doing one from each for now because i didn't notice until today i probably should have checked so that was my fault at least you owned your mistake yep all right so uh slideshow so the first one is by sage c and this is project n64 i believe this one was the one chosen by the mods why is that the slideshow what the heck is this what powerpoint why you do why you why you do this that is super derp that better not be the was it like review slideshow from the beginning it should be what are you doing display settings maybe here we go what oh that's like presenter view okay i get it um it's not it's not a what oh hold on a second uh wait where did where did we get hold on one sec we're learning how to use powerpoint we'll be back yeah we're not going anywhere no i think they had the right one already no they don't it should it shouldn't be what are they looking at it's a duplicated screen is it is it frozen no i don't think so try to open your start menu maybe frozen not frozen oh it's an extended display why is it an extended display why is it extended we're supposed to do duplicate displays what is it doing i don't know what is it hi this is really weird so we're looking at a presenter view that is not oh my goodness all right so let's just let's just try previewing it from here this is why we don't make videos about microsoft software what were they thinking about powerpoint i guess who does make videos but someone should make a video about powerpoint because this would be ridiculous boring video they should present the video from powerpoint you should just record their screen and have a powerpoint presentation running i'm sure that i'm sure that people who use powerpoint all the time technically i use powerpoint all the time i just realized that right now but i don't use this version so that's my defense i'm sure someone's laughing at us and i'm sure that they're right and we're idiots or in the version that i use it's like super duper easy okay yay all right find a screen nope what are we looking at i have no idea not a clue what is it it's not showing your screen though because you just had a photo viewer app yeah it's not updating or something oh that's why i said open your start menu like it's not updating properly there's something else going on because it's yeah when you open your start menu it should have shown the start menu yeah it's not working oh okay well that explains a lot now then so let's see if uh did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in no no not yet um let's just see if this does a thing oh well okay okay okay new plan new plan don't worry you guys we're going to find a way to do this oh there you go that'll work i want to do build guides of the week dang it oh hold on something oh oh oh okay okay we heard back from nvidia just in time well actually right around the time we were talking about it on the show freaking called it that's all i have to say it is not nvidia's intention to restrict support to geforce pcs the reality is that the quickest path to releasing pc support was to release it through our existing geforce experience software we are working on a plan to support non-geforce pcs but currently cannot commit to a time frame for support all right faith restored because it made no sense like i didn't want to like go over it too hard but it made no sense no nothing in this but you were saying that there's something in in geforce's experience that it would have to be tied to well no what i what i was saying was that maybe like i could understand why geforce experience might be easier we can go back and you can watch the archive if you want okay i never said that i said that the touch pad might not work or something yeah but that makes no sense why not what what does d4 experience do that would have anything to do with that who knows the point is that as a controller i couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't work so anyway the point is completely valid none of that happened they just rolled it out through geforce experience because that makes a convenient way for them to roll driver updates out to people and it was really painless to get it working i just plugged it in and it worked which is nice all right yay faith restored nvidia good job you guys um let's go ahead and go back to luke's email here which hopefully i can find i can't even see it i get too many emails that top one top one top one top one there we go foreign my brain is exploding all right why did it download oh did you click both of them so what we'll have to do screen reaching captivity is uh yeah we'll just do screen region capture and then we will oh i don't know let's pick this scene or something okay add screen region all right stream section for a little bit here guys and slideshow from beginning so now we're just hoping that it's working yeah cool it's probably working projects okay do you do you want to give the background for this uh project n64 well let's just i think they've got that much so far by sage c let's go with them let's go with them so this is all the included components um which is not super important in my opinion you can check out all the included components and stuff if you go are you hating on his inclusion of a broken n64 no i think that's pretty cool because that was my actually this this is an interesting discussion that was my favorite part about listing the system specs of my mineral pc was when they asked for case right i was always like fish tank yeah so that's yeah i know that's pretty cool but the point of the build logs isn't necessarily like oh he used amd instead of intel like but that's not really the point so i don't really want to spend too much time on system this is the point of awesomeness that is this computer so yeah he shows in the beginning where he just kind of tore apart the n64 and started removing things then putting in his motherboard and whatnot and then if we move on forward you can see the end shots which are amazing wow that's ridiculous that's fantastic pretty freaking cool i've seen some like old console build of computer intuit builds but this one is kind of incredible even having seen those in the past that's really clean yeah it is extremely clean usually you see some sort of breakage and this is extremely well done all right super awesome so i believe that one was voted for by he stole my idea yeah no um i believe that one was voted for by the mods someone in the chat was like they stole my idea like yeah it's also been done before yeah the idea of building a computer in an old console is not really new no it's awesome and you did an extremely good job but it it probably wasn't your original idea and it yeah more people will do it in the future all right sorry i'm just trying to be careful not to i don't think anyone's personal information here so i'll be happy about that was it guest here we go all right so we've got our second one here so just in case you didn't know water cooled pc desk mod with car sound system this one's got some pretty nice specs two 780 ti's in sli lots of storage holy crap wow seven terabytes of storage plus the ssds although i don't think he tech no he didn't make it into the 10 terabyte thread yeah close enough and from what i've heard you're allowed to be a heathen and post in the 10 terabyte thread even if you don't have 10 terabytes oh just to like hang out with everyone if you want i guess i should i should post our uh our server when we get our new seagate drives we're getting some super high cap seagate drives for ours for our server that are going to make us maybe near the top of the 10 terabyte plus will we not be in red anymore because that would be nice i'm sorry we've been riding the red line for like months uh it's been relatively okay lately i expanded it to 21 terabytes and we offloaded four terabytes the other day there you go nice all right wow so it looks extremely similar to the nvidia desk that we went to go see yeah that's true not exactly the same at all yeah no but the uh the horizontal reservoirs uh the nvidia one had two completely separate pcs one on either side which kind of didn't make a ton of sense to me but whatever they're in video they do what they want i guess these dual power supplies in there pretty sick looking system oh yeah that is super cool gets a lot more sick than we had originally thought i'm face roll love all this got a couple optical drives in because you can dash console stuff in here because you can fan controller because you can pretty much everything about this build is because you can sick build very very cool so awesome i think that pretty much wraps it up for the lan show you guys thank you for tuning in all over 5 000 of you i think we had around 5 500 peak you guys are fantastic we appreciate it sorry about the problems at the beginning yeah we're sorry one thing to note is that our folding team and our blink teams are super awesome so you should go join them if you want to contribute your compute power to a good cause uh they're both doing extremely well i don't have numbers offhand here which whaler is probably going to stab me for but when you're blinking did you you haven't no i haven't there's a few mods that are on it and i'm on it i'm doing pretty good but i'm not at the top i think my dad might still be at the top or someone's finally passed him that's awesome i'm not sure we gotta get him some more hardware so he can stay there which we will be doing soon his dad helped us with the whole room liquid cooling thing so yeah and yes we will make videos about it and no they're not ready yet probably not coming soon yeah ed's on vacation for at least another week and then when he gets back if he has time then he will start working on that project start he hasn't started yet not really like he's done some but not it's not and there's quite a bit of footage to go through people are yelling about the giveaway again i think we already tried uh i don't think the forum is back up but i can check looks like new looks like not i'm sorry guys we'll have to we'll have to post the giveaway shortly yep all right thanks again for watching and as always don't forget to subscribe lions tech tips yay that was a different ending to the lan show that we don't normally do uh yes it was i'm i couldn't think of anything else forum does seem to be back oh no there goes no never mind because the thing is it came back up and then everyone was like giveaway it went back and then it went back down right it's like oh oh there's no there's no audio for the outro and also i didn't even have the thing on well yay we carried a couch and went through a swamp it happened you have to trust uswell that was fun i think we're actually live for real this time and uh you know third time's a charm yeah right so let's go through our topics extremely quickly we're gonna do the million subscriber giveaway this week on the lan show live here in front of all of you we're going to talk about apple's bendgate fiasco with the iphone 6 plus he's lost his topic introduction privileges i've covered this before but for those of you who are freshly watching this and didn't watch the first two fall starts of the show i gotta make sure i throw that in there paul and kyle have both left newegg and we're gonna have them on the show to talk a little bit about what's going on maybe we'll do some twitter blitzing and intel spent a metric bucket ton of money on their new 10 nanometer process manufacturing facility in israel or will rather it's not like done yet we can't have 10 nanometer processors yet but soon we hope see if this works yeah i don't hear any sound oh dude okay so anyway uh squarespace is one of our sponsors for the show today create your own beautiful functional website it's affordable it's scalable and it's 10 off with offer code linus also we have uh lynda.com also sponsor the show today learn expand your mind make your brain more smarter lynda.com and that is exactly how they asked me to say that here's a hint it's not so we've got a lot of great topics for this week can i help you nope okay a lot of great topics for this week there's a rumor that is on wccf tech although don't freak out it's actually originally posted by pc tuning that nvidia's maxwell gm 200 gpu could be coming as soon as q4 of this year so it's rumored to have a die size of 551 millimeter squared making it the big core in the maxwell family with over 2500 cuda core so anywhere from 2560 to 2816 and so we decided to troll you a little bit if you notice your shirt is slightly different than my shirt my shirt's better my shirt has three people and so do all of theirs hello so there's a whole bunch of shirts that have three people and if you pay a lot of attention wow logo on the back and if you pay a lot of attention to what's on the shirt there's fractal josh in the middle because he's super tall yeah and he's broke like bro fisting me yeah and then throwing a pie in your face yeah that's a pretty lame shirt well i told him i wouldn't tell you but brandon might have leaked this you're so lazy it was a complete accident actually initially he's like oh nice shirt and then and then i turned around and thinking that he are you putting a tape over mine so i have i have prepared in advance my rebuttal which is that you are fired you are no longer allowed to be on my like arm and legs are still no don't worry i'm gonna deal with you god brandon you're horrible i'm sorry it was an accident you could have at least told me well i told him i wouldn't tell you guys yeah but then i did but then wow what i want that smashback yeah get wrecked josh says if people want these shirts blow up his twitter handle i don't know if you guys heard that but apparently if you don't want the shirt bro fist we only need one bro that's just depressing no we only need one bro it's kind of sad i feel bad for you i feel bad for you you just lost your job yeah get ready i'm still here uh yes anyways so i guess we should talk about the graphics card yeah so back to that graphics card that we've talked about sort of one and a half times already um this rumor actually kind of makes sense so it's they're saying it's going to have a 384-bit memory bus approximately 50 boost in performance over the gtx titan black and that it'll have double the performance per watt of the gk110 which powered the 780 780 ti titan and titan black so this all actually makes a great deal of sense and is in line with nvidia's usual strategy of one big core a medium-sized core which we can tell just by looking at gm-204 that's what that is that's that's not the top top tier card and uh or at least the eventual top tier maxwell card and then the the trickle down keeps on going from there so um i don't know the one thing that we're both not entirely sure about is the q4 2014 launch date or or they're saying should be within two months that sounds a little bit extreme maybe yeah and i mean if that happens it'll be a compute card like a tesla or a um or maybe even a quadro maybe not a consumer grade card um although i mean who knows maybe maybe i'm wrong maybe it'll be titan too or something like that yeah could be possible all right moving on to our next also nvidia related news kingpin oh sorry that first one was originally posted on the forum by big stroons thank you for that i don't know if it's trunes or like stro no one's really sure that's something about online handles yeah like our capitals emphasis or how can you ever really get a handle on something that's just digital data well could grabbing a hard drive be getting a handle on digital data or an ssd because you're technically holding it i think this might be the longest silence we've ever had on the wan show i basically talk constantly don't i didn't we have it no because i think we had like a one minute silence for something did we i think there was yeah whatever it was it was probably something inappropriate and not something yeah actually deserved to one minute 100 i don't i think so i don't remember what it was but it like didn't make a ton of sense but we had a we had a minute silence for you that seems like the kind of thing i would do um all right so mech 777 posted on the forum that quote unquote maxwell is an overclocking monster kingpin and 10 have cracked 2 gigahertz plus this was on ln2 yeah i mean to be clear you won't be cracking two gigahertz plus unless you cool with liquid nitrogen but i got any more details while i they're running their core at 2103 megahertz and their memory at so all of that is just generally insane um again though ln2 liquid nitrogen they ran fire they got a fire strike score of 1940 and they got eight five 1940 yeah my bad and they got a firestrike extreme score of 91.91 absolutely ridiculous apparently the overclock was attributed to low power consumption yeah low power consumption i mean also any of the other optimizations that nvidia's made in maxwell there's a lot of stuff that's still under the hood with maxwell that i think they're either waiting for the bigger core to reveal i mean that's what that's what they do they tend to kind of pace the releases of their news um speaking out that's why competition's good because if there isn't a ton of competition that pace can go at whatever speed they want and if they're like well if we develop slower then we don't have to spend as much on r d and they just slow the pace down well i don't think they're doing that maybe they're there i'm saying just in general that's why competition's good i think it's just the way that the way that the um the way that the r d is being directed these days where they still have to continue to develop and stay competitive in um hpc for example so they're they still want to pump better gpu cores as fast as possible we just might end up with ones that are more compute optimized and this has been happening over the last few years that also happened to be fantastic for gaming as well yeah okay now that's a lot of good nvidia news but i have some very unfortunate nvidia news as well this is something that's not actually on the dock and i i noticed and i had someone assure me that it wasn't a big deal but i was pretty sure it was a big deal i noticed at their editors day that the pcs were running with shield controllers plugged into them i was like oh yeah i thought that wasn't pc compatible at least not yet and so it has been confirmed by nvidia that it wasn't and the version of geforce experience and the latest driver that came out with gtx 780 980 rather now supports shield as a controller on your pc which is our shield controller not shield it's really scary when someone says that there's bad news and then proceeds to only give you good news oh yeah the bad news is coming so the unfortunate thing and this is only moderately bad news is that it doesn't work wirelessly on your computer and that makes sense because it's wi-fi direct and to my knowledge nothing wi-fi direct connects directly to your computer yet as far as i know the even the much worse news is uh where is it compatibility uh okay android devices etc okay it only works on their own android devices which i kind of get again wi-fi direct whatever games controllers can i use the shield wireless controller with a pc yes the shield wireless controller is compatible as a wired controller with windows 7 or windows 8 running geforce experience wow so just for just for giggles i tried to install geforce experience on a computer that wasn't running a geforce graphics card it goes no supported hardware and boots you out so the only way to install the driver for nvidia's like game controller is to have an nvidia graphics card in your system this is extremely offensive and i think if you install um just judging from over uh graphics card overclocking and testing if you install geforce experience with an nvidia card plugged in and then swap it just won't run that's right so this is this is incredibly disappointing to me i don't understand why nvidia wouldn't want anyone to enjoy the experience of using their controller i don't i reached out to them for comment two days ago i gave them two days to reply to my message about this and i was like what's going on yeah i was gonna say they might have just overlooked it they would have just bundled it into the geforce experience driver so we will update you guys next week on when show if we hear back anything else or i'll try to i'll try to tweet it out when i hear back about it but for now you can't just install a driver and to my knowledge there's nothing about the controller that would make it not work like maybe the touchpad might not work or something if uh if you didn't have geforce experience it should just work as a standard controller how would geforce experience affect the touchpad well i i don't know like it might be some kind of emulated mouse something like that should be able to just be in a driver you would think that but i can see why that might take longer to implement for example because the rest of the way the controller works is exactly like a standard xbox controller yeah i just don't see what your geforce experience does that would have anything to affect the touchpad so it would be nothing in this driver through geforce experience or implementing the driver through standalone or not because they do some funny stuff with things like mouse control over shield and stuff like that like it depends how it was implemented so i don't know i'm just saying i don't know i'm not saying that definitely it wouldn't work whatever the point is that it should at least work as a controller that's it and the fact that they're not allowing it to do that is just super crappy i mean think about think imagine this for a second let's say uh someone who wants to use oh i don't know steam in home streaming on an ultrabook and happens to have a g-force powered gaming machine elsewhere in their house and thinks oh great i'll just use my controller i'll plug it into my to my notebook and then i'll stream to myself from my freaking geforce pc that will not work and that is a huge oversight from nvidia i'm extremely upset about it i just think this is locking things away for the sake of locking them away as opposed to for the sake of maintaining the end users experience which is what i do believe they do do a lot of the time unfortunately this is evidence that not everything that they do is necessarily for the sake of making sure the end user has a good experience because this is not a good experience and there's no reason for it again they could have possibly just there could possibly be a reason we will update you if there's a reason i haven't heard back yet i more thought of it as an oversight but we will see so there you go oh yeah we said we would pull them in at around five did we all right so let's bring in our guests shall we we have paul formerly of newegg tv and kyle formerly of newegg tv now of paul's hardware and awesome sauce news boy are they ever ugly hey i think that's extremely that's that's awesome sauce network for you sir so what you do more than news now is that your thing yes exactly it's a bit more all-encompassing than uh than the news tag line all-encompassing you say what do you encompass by the way okay so for those of you who aren't familiar with these jokers we've got kyle right here and paul right here and they will be living between us i swear i don't know why i signed up for this really and they'll be completely replacing luke yeah did you notice these shirts i actually been wearing this all day i didn't even know that anything was going on with your team trolling you this is just pure coincidence so it must be it must be uh and then he got here right as you guys were revealing the the you all had the shirts on and i was like oh i've got one too this is this is how paul answered the door five minutes ago and i rolled to his house he opens there he's like he looks music i have to change my clothes what's happening over there that's very very important thank you guys for having us yes thank you thank you very much fantastic oh apparently you guys are pretty loud hold on a second i'm going to turn you all down a little bit maybe i'll just turn you down all you guys are so influential he just said y'all all right uh let's see it doesn't dislike you guys that much let's let's hear from people let's see if that uh see if that sounds okay uh you guys are also peaking a little bit so i'm not sure if that's a microphone setting or whatever else but hopefully we're all good apparently the stream died so i don't know what's up with that it doesn't look like it's dead on our side so we're gonna we're gonna continue sort of along here for a second if you push the mic a little further away yeah that could help too yeah we dropped a few frames but it looks like we are we are definitely back here so all right what the heck is going on over there oh you know just in general this all of that uh hashtag new egg gate so so yeah i guess um if you guys aren't familiar with like newegg tv uh that's what kyle and i have been doing for for quite a few years now uh kind of regular presenters on on the newegg tv youtube channel um kyle does a little bit more behind the scenes than i do but uh kind of similar to what linus used to do with uh with ncix right we have just recently um both sort of independently and then we both kind of found out that we were both kind of on the same page uh made made the decision that we were going to go our separate ways and leave new egg we still have a a a set up there so we are still we're not going to be gone completely we're still going to be participating a little bit over there kyle i was just over there today and he did the alt tab live show uh that uh is also on twitch right that was good times yes yes so you guys are going independent do you feel a little bit like um oh i don't know copycats copycats i was i was gonna say uh wasn't logan didn't know he wasn't just gonna say you guys because i've seen a lot of people say hey everyone's they've been saying we're pulling like a jerry like like because jerry is the most recent person to leave his job and to some degree uh i i i gotta i gotta go back to logan i feel like logan kind of set the bar for for all of us on that one yeah exactly we're all at the end of the day we're all copying someone it might as well be logan right exactly but um it's just kind of interesting how this this huge transition for both paul and i kind of started at the same time and uh i think it was kind of for the best uh that happened at the same time as opposed to spreading it out you know like having one big announcement at the company and then a month later somebody else is leaving um so we kind of just talked about it as like hey so paul i'm planning this and he's like really i'm kind of planning this i'm like oh wow that's kind of funny why don't we do it together or whatever so i kind of worked out that way and um you know but but still still much love to newegg they've helped me a lot that was literally my first job straight out of college they're the only people who would take me um that was so ominous discretion isn't really paul's specialty but yeah at the end of the day uh going going independent is i think a good decision for both of us um i i know i'm really excited uh this last week i've just been you know waking up at nine as opposed to seven which is always awesome the ability to just straight up the ability because before i would work 40 hours a week at new york i would come home around 5 30 6 p.m have dinner take a shower by the time i'm ready to actually start a video for my personal channel it's like nine o'clock and i'm up till 3am and got to wake up at 7 30 the next morning it's just it's a it's a mind whirl so being able to wake up write a script and conceptualize a video and shoot and edit that video and post it all on the same day is amazing it's it's probably it's a great feeling to have which i'm sure you guys are in that sort of same workflow for your channel so speaking of you know waking up and conceptualizing video and then uh you know producing it and all that stuff have you guys actually have you guys made much content since you've gone independent and how is this going to affect the the type of content that you're creating uh kyle has i i have not yet i so i was trying to get him to finish off a video last night and i didn't so uh that's still i'm gonna post there'll be a new video on my channel this evening i promise 95 of the way how are you guys planning to support yourselves i mean i think that you don't have to explain to me that um you know google adsense is not necessarily the the white knight and savior that uh that people who watch but don't necessarily create the content might believe it is what is right uh we're nowhere near neither of us are anywhere near being able to support ourselves on just the adsense revenue um i think part as you probably know part of the nature of kind of the content that we do since we cover technology we cover products that are brought to market and sold to people and that companies make profit from so as a result of that we have the possibility to um do things like pre-roll type ads uh those things that you've done um i mean obviously there's there's you gotta kind of especially when it's for your own channel versus working for a separate company you got to kind of take a step back and think okay okay if i'm going to do something like this how am i going to do it how am i going to make it as non-intrusive for anyone who's watching my channel as possible but also give give companies a chance to you know promote their products if they want to um so i i think uh i might be doing some basic simple you know like five five to ten second pre-roll ads uh for in in the near future um and then i might i might actually be doing some some writing uh for for some websites that uh do do content of of the technical nature i guess um i know none of this stuff is is set in stone yet so i don't want to say like yes i'm going to be doing this until i i know for sure i was like one big strip tease yes that's it that's our seduction but you guys are also still going to be doing some stuff with new egg correct yes yeah uh so the plan right now is that we're each going to go in one day a week and help out with whatever the regular content is and we might be doing some additional videos here and there as well uh so the the yolk show which is kind of tech news and us messing around which is kind of fun the alt tab live show are the main ones right now and then um you know the obviously the team over there is going through some transition right now at the same time so uh we need to sort of also wait and see and say okay we've taken a step back from from any kind of leadership role that we might have played before so what do they want to do next and how can we play a part in that um so yeah that's and that's the main thing i think that we wanted to communicate to people well this is a pretty huge change for both of us personally and possibly i guess also a decent change for the the newegg channel as well this was not done out of animosity towards newegg or anything anything to that effect we we still i'm still going to be ordering stuff there all the time because i can drive right over to will call and uh and yeah so there's no like major problems or anything like that it was just uh something both of us kind of kind of came to realize i think kyle had some some other personal uh family reasons and then for me i mean you if you work for somewhere for an extended period of time as great as it might be at some point you just need to decide okay i need to i need to stretch myself and reach out and try to do something that's a little bit more different or that allows me to uh i don't know like kyle was saying earlier the creativity fly fly away a little bit damn i was stretching myself and putting my arm around you and then you just abandoned me oh my gosh is that okay that you used to cover that's a giant massive waste of electrical tape you got to let that bad boy shine actually much more expensive gaff tape oh god that's a stuff so i hate to do this to you guys but skype's using up about 20 of our cpu right now and our stream is lagging to crap because we're at 100 cpu usage so i'm actually already webcam i'm gonna have to say thank you guys so much for coming on but it's kind of not it's not working for us unfortunately this relationship isn't gonna be able to for efforts so we'll we'll come on hopefully in a future episode or something like that yeah we're going to upgrade our cpu and we'll have you guys on again to just kind of be regular guests i think it's great that you came on for the announcement but i think i have to i have to let you go so thank you guys again i'm very sorry nothing personal except that i hate you no worries of course we love you guys trying to direct people to his amazon link instead of yours no actually wow i'm not watch my last video go to my channel and watch it i specifically say if you don't already have linus's bookmarks and now he's like desperately trying to plead for views he wants me to go watch his video don't watch my video please watch my videos i need that one more incremental count all right we'll see you guys later bye bye see you later guys hopefully that fixes it yeah i certainly hope it does so let's go ahead and move that screen region see what happens to our cpu usage now computer is not stoked yeah okay so look at that we are way down and hopefully we are actually encoding frames instead of dropping them now welcome back to the show actually functioning like i said guys there wasn't really anything that i could do about it we had about skype was claiming 20 cpu load it looks like it was actually closer to around 35 so we went from 60 cpu to no cpu left at all and we were pinned at 100 that was brutal so i'm really sorry about that you guys we will bring paul and kyle back on sometime in the near future hopefully in the next few weeks here and we will we will dive into some topics together and have that tech chat that i know you guys want to hear and i'm really sorry about that but we got to just move forward with the show we can't have it running like that forever looks like we're not dropping frames anymore so i think yeah i think we're good i think that fixed it all right so moving on to bendgate this was originally posted on the linus tech tips forum by lars reviews and there's actually a fairly excellent thread if you're not already a member of linustechtips.com then you should probably go there because if we don't have enough members he'll lose his job again oh my wow yeah yeah that's we only have enough members i think we have enough members okay i have the one most important member that's not on the forum though no if it was i think i'd probably have to remove it but i wouldn't delete that thread i would just hide it yeah excellent excellent thread on the forum about it but basically um there's a some videos allegedly breaking phones in half made by uh one of our one of our good friends lou over at unbox therapy where because well when something is okay not at the halfway point i guess yes so the point is there were some reports of people having iphone 6 pluses bending from carrying them in their front pockets these kind of started to circulate on the internet and lou from unbox therapy made a video demonstrating how easily the phone could be significantly bent and then how the screen would crack and it would basically become useless once you bent it back to its original flat form this has been the most viral video i think on any tech youtubers channel ever and um lou posted a posted a screenshot from his youtube creators app of it at 10 million views i think the morning after he originally posted it this thing went super crazy viral but i think it's like 30 million now or something just for that one video and he's released three on the topic which are all above a million views way more and he's been doing bend tests of other things other people are jumping on the the bend test wagon i think i saw ncix post on their facebook today a motherboard bent over i recognize the board too it's the next 58 board that was a sample that we got like ages ago when i uh when i used to work there oh man uh people are saying banda 980 get more views i really don't think that would happen i think people would just call us idiots yeah and that'd be really hard to do yeah we'd have to put it in a vice and stuff i'd just rather not bend the 980 i'd rather people someone at some point game on that 980 because that's i don't believe in breaking hardware on purpose i do think particularly the original bend demonstration video was very important justified just to make people aware of the issue but along those lines apple is claiming now that it isn't actually an issue so they're saying that out of all the you know hype surrounding bend gate only nine users have actually come forward to apple about having broken their or bent their phone through regular use and they are saying that any of the phones that were able to be bent so easily in this manner um just must be suffering from some kind of materials defect and it's not a problem with the design of the phone there's a lot of other stuff kind of floating around so this is just kind of funny apple uh threw up a job posting for uh a q a sort of position that one of the things listed in the job description was was bending testing was it ashley yeah but i but again it was a joke this is this is stuff that that could have just been a regular job posting anyway i don't think it necessarily has anything to do with bendgate i think really the proof will be in the pudding are we going to see more people coming forward with bent phones um one thing that i've seen apple fanboys kind of running around saying is oh well it's aluminum so you know yeah it was going to bend anyway you know what the one i made is aluminum and um i i can't i can't bend it i can turn it on like change the volume but i can't bend the phone which it did perfectly fine while he was trying to bend it for that matter the 5s has an aluminum back it's made by apple also doesn't bend so um i think that's pretty much it there's honestly not that much to say it's a massively over exhausted topic yep i don't want to even give it that much more attention one new other thing apple says that the new phones feature steel and titanium inserts to reinforce stress locations and they use the strongest glass in the industry so okay they didn't use sapphire which we all thought they were going to use yeah that was interesting that could have been interesting because i wonder if that would have helped to resist bending i kind of did not i mean marcus's video where he has the sapphire crystal glass oh that's a good point he he kind of in his first video in particular i think he unfortunately hadn't seen corning gorilla glass 3 off of a phone before yeah so he was kind of marveling at how clear it was and how it flexed and all that but gorilla glass 3 behaves in pretty much exactly the same matter so aside from the scratch resistance i don't think yeah which wouldn't have actually helped rigidity in any way so it yeah never mind moot point so okay i hadn't heard anything about this what's going on with the cooler the evga acx 970 cooler uh yes originally posted on the forum by devilsd thank you sean um evga this is this is this is shawn's headline here evga could lose out on quite a bit of money due to trying to cut costs on their gtx 970 980 cards the original article is from e-technics and it's that evga may have used a cooler from a bigger card to save on manufacturing costs so there's a picture of a cooler taken off an evga 900 series card here and i'm gonna go ahead i'm gonna load that page eventually if i can but in the meantime why don't we just switch to the no guest view so you guys don't have to wait for it but basically what happened was the bottom sorry it started working which did there oh no no i didn't what this page is still loading yeah i just switched back to a page that works like linustechtips.com oops hey that's right get wrecked um so basically i'll just have to help you guys visualize this there's three heat pipes there we go need help with your demonstration should i be the heat pipes uh yeah you can be the heat pipes okay so there's three heat pipes and then the you can tell from the thermal paste pattern that the gpu core itself is actually only contacting two of them and one of them is not making contact with the gpu core now this has led to some speculation that evga's direct touch cooler will not work very well and could perform significantly worse than if all three heat pipes were making contact there is some truth to this direct heat pipe touch technology does make a difference and having them all touching the core would probably help but i think people are overestimating how much of a difference that's going to make remember the problem with a copper base plate on anything let's say a heat sink or yeah let's say a heat sink because that would be fairly related yeah so the problem with having a copper base on a heat on a heat sink the reason that we use heat pipes and vapor chambers instead of just using a flat slab of copper is that copper can't conduct heat away quickly enough in order to provide the best possible cooling once you build a heatsink that's large enough over short distances this is not an issue so with the dye right next to it right there and those heat pipes being the hottest part of that cooler and that next heat pipe being right next to those other heat pipes that are the hottest part of the cooler it's going to be working it's going to be doing something might not be as effective but we're talking i'd be surprised if the difference is more than a degree or two and in the grand scheme of things that's not going to be a huge deal these cars are already running pretty cool they are already running pretty cool that said you know is two degrees the difference between one boost state versus another boost state on cards that overclock themselves maybe um but i'd also suspect that having another person sitting in the room watching you game would make as much of a difference because just the heat from their body and we're already getting like load temps of around 70 on average as far as i've been able to tell with our cards yeah with non-reference cards yeah so there you go that's pretty much i guess all i really have to say about that i don't think it's as big of a deal as other people our evga did respond they said that though and i hadn't actually seen their response yet this has been added to the docs since the last time i looked at it the way the gtx 970 acx heatsink was designed is based on the gtx 970 wattage plus an additional 40 cooling headroom on top of it so they're saying about a total of 200 watts also we would like to mention that the cooler passed nvidia's green light specifications due to the small contact area of that gpu because it has a small die size we intended for the gpu to contact two major heat pipes with direct touch to make to get the best heat dissipation out of it without any other material in between them um blah blah blah etc etc etc regarding fan noise this is not a fan noise issue is more oh okay regarding fan noise we understood that some had expressed concerns over the fan noise of the evga's gtx 970 cards this is not a fat noise issue but more of an aggressive fan curve set by the default bios regardless we have heard your concerns we are going to provide a bios update that keeps the cards quieter and ramps up less aggressively with that said you can control gpu fan speeds and software so if you don't want to wait for the bios update then i would say fairly simple to do go for it especially with their i can't remember right now have you forgotten your dead to me what's the name of their software again precision precision x has a pretty good fan fan curve stuff in it so if you want to change it use their own software not too hard the verge wrote a pretty hilarious i guess i made it about two-thirds of the way through and then i got kind of bored but it was pretty funny well i can't be that hilarious no it was pretty funny they wrote a pretty hilarious piece on the fact that the next or well they okay apparently uh the fact that the next nexus tablet will be made by htc and the verges article was full of you know lovers quarrels and all this kind of stuff the kid the main characters are of course google htc samsung it was like a triangle no yeah it's just just kind of the the industry the android ecosystem all the different players it was pretty funny but basically that's it this was posted by ethnot on the forum and the original source here is reuters.com and apparently google has selected htc for an upcoming nine-inch nexus tablet so it looks like they're splitting they're using htc for the tablet and i believe they're using uh moto motorola still for their phone is that confirmed or are we speculating based on that it looks like the moto x is speculating the new generator right but it it it has like the circular flash and it has all the stuff which is very similar to them yes it does look very similar again it's still speculation but it's it's i don't know it'll be interesting using two different manufacturers so google has been mulling htc as a potential partner for since last year htc hasn't made a tablet since 2011 so this was announced at google i o in june it's expected q3 2014 and it will apparently be powered by the tegra k1 which is extremely good news because something that i noticed i don't know if other people noticed but a non-tech had a great article on the iphone 6 and iphone 6 plus performance and of all the android devices that were in the performance charts the one that really hung with the iphone 6 and the six plus was the nvidia shield tablet which is based on the tegra k1 with and that's in terms of cpu in terms of gpu the k1 blew away everything yeah just absolutely demolished everything else nvidia so i'm i'm excited about that the problem with the k1 the big like i i wonder if nvidia had hoped that k1 would be suitable for phone use but the problem with the k1 is that the thermals are just not really suitable for that and they're more optimal for tablet use at this time so at least we can have fast android tablets as fast as the fastest apple devices um just not smartphones yet i'm also not surprised that the k1 is heavily focused on gpu i am why nvidia yeah i mean they're all about stop trolling you're so genuine with that i am i was like did i miss something what did i do holy crap i said something stupid no no you didn't say anything stupid you just wore something stupid that's why you're dead to me no dead to me speaking of dead to me uh watchdogs is turning into a franchise they are not dead at all oh that's a terrible segway i know i could have said a lot of different things about i could i could have tied dead to me into watch dogs and ubisoft in a lot of different ways yeah yeah let's say check the hard way rather than saying that you know i missed an opportunity why don't we say i had restraint there we go i know what i'm down with that oh all right because usually we do the digging thing at any rate uh this was originally posted by dlf on the forum i couldn't tell if it was diff different glf and the original article is from computer and video games and ubisoft montreal's well we're just staring at the dock right now vice president of creative of creative that's a thing is it maybe not uh anyway has said that although the game has its flaws he feels it succeeds in establishing a brand and promise for the future that's an awkward way to do that i'll let you talk now i'm i'm taking off the dead to me thing oh yeah okay so so it's flawed but you know we believe in it it'll be okay well hopefully we won't completely screw it up next time and then you guys will hopefully like it or we'll just say this and you'll buy it and then we'll just keep moving on anyways because we're ubisoft they did make a good point they brought up that assassin's creed one had a lot of complaints about it and was hardly a perfect because they gave it like no budget and cut it off early so they didn't have time to develop missions for the rest of the game so they just reused missions from previous parts of the game but the point was that assassin's creed ii sold just fine in spite of the complaints about assassin's creed one sold it was a great game i loved assassin's creed it was really good but yeah and there was very valid complaints about assassin's creed one which i also liked because you you did like the first three missions then you just basically repeated that for the entire rest of the game um so i don't know if they do the same thing that would be fantastic because that means the next watchdogs would be really good assassin's creed 2 was great but i don't know because it did look like watchdogs got a much larger budget than assassin's creed one oh yeah it did and that was the main problem with assassin's creed one it was it was the fact that they ran out of budget but i mean the way that the statement was phrased i think is i think is is pretty good where basically he says okay there are three flaws which is good you know we want to tackle those flaws and surprise players uh we need to be careful not to change the things people liked and addressed the things that they didn't like and hopefully you know particularly from a pc gamer's perspective that's going to happen right starting at the beginning of the development process when the pc gets treated like a priority as opposed to not even an afterthought you can't even call it an afterthought that's what's terrible about it yeah it was with forethought and malice allegedly that they nerfed it um so hopefully we won't see that happen again and watch dogs 2 will be the only thing that scares me about this is that we've had ubisoft tote rah-rah we're going to make it better in front of us before and then just completely ignore it when the time fraction came to be so so this is great i hope it happens but i'm not i wouldn't throw any bets things can change though i mean i think i brought this up on one show before so i won't talk about it for too long but talking to the directx lead at microsoft when he showed up at the at the nvidia event he was like yeah we have a different culture now you know like i'm encouraged to be out here talking to journalists and and engaging with the community about the direction of direct 3d when before it was it was very close-knit much more cloistered yeah and so i i don't know i i basically because i i kind of grilled him a little bit actually some things that i knew he wouldn't know but i just wanted to kind of someone who might have some influence there let's just beat him up while he's down and i kind of went man why didn't halo 1 get multiplayer co-op and he was like i legitimately don't know that and i'm like man why do they keep recommitting to us and then do this master chief edition not coming to pc what the hell is that so i basically just went man does microsoft even care and all he could really say was microsoft is changing and he he spoke very earnestly about it he seems like a great guy mr nadella has been making a crazy amount of changes he's not a pr guy he's a technical guy he's a programmer always cool so i don't expect him to give me a pr response but he seemed genuinely convinced that microsoft is on a great track and cares about gamers and the other thing he said is that his team has always cared and has always been watching the very few amount of dx like announcements and demos that you're able to watch where those guys are up on stage allowed to talk they do seem like they care a lot yeah and he was telling me like there's guys there's there's two amount of those you know four thousand five thousand dollar gaming rigs at home like these are pc gaming enthusiasts at least some of them and he kind of went you know yeah we're we're optimistic you know we we believe in the future so so who knows maybe ubisoft who hasn't gotten a new ceo or really changed it all hopefully they do those things so speaking of changes corsair changed the branding on their gaming peripherals and we might have all collectively freaked out a little bit too much probably but let's just let's just go through the saga here so uh here's this video they made with like some soldiers this is i think just the outro for it like have you watched the video no actually it's pretty over the top the production values are like pretty good like i have no idea how much that cost just looking at that animation yeah so they released uh a new a new brand for their gaming products oh i'm not logged in so that's not working winners everything is broken everything is broken something something something something something everything is broken all right so they um they redid their vengeance branding the old sort of yellow vengeance logo that we would find on older corsair gaming products i used to have a keyboard in here but i took it out of here for a b-roll or something so i don't have it at the moment um and then they redid it so instead of having the corsair sails and then vengeance has kind of a separate sub brand they created this um kind of two-crossed blade thing that ends up looking kind of like a tribal tattoo that would belong on the small of your back or like a klingon bat lift uh with a little heart in the middle of it like there isn't there aren't really many great ways to to look at it i saw a crazy crab holding swords with a heart on his head yeah yeah that's that's another that's another way uh bad people suggest that it's kind of like a crabberang yeah so it's a batarang but but it's a crab that's funny there should be there should be crab man um yeah that would actually make a great one extremely strong arm and one really good not strong one that would make a tremendous like cartoon network show it's like crab man and he's just always like an ass to everyone i'll save you but i won't like it yeah yeah yeah yeah anyway so they they took away the sales they took away corsair vengeance sub brand and now it's all unified under corsair gaming they made a big hubbub about this which i actually wonder if ended up working against them they had press releases pr statements they redid all their packaging they took new products like the rgb series keyboards and packaged them with this new core corsair gaming brand they took existing products like their 1500 headset and 1300 headset we actually have a bunch of them in the hallway and they repackage them under the new branding redid the industrial design on the products like this was not a cheap initiative for corsair to undergo this rebranding process and then the community freaked out there was a change.org petition which i really feel like was a little over the top i mean change.org change.org positions are a little bit over the top okay fair enough um pc master race the the subreddit was explosive uh the threads on linus tech tips are many many many posts long discussing this and i think that basically all there really is to say about it is i don't really like the logo either me neither i released a video about it last night i don't think it's great um but something that i actually didn't realize until i was talking to someone at corsair about the video we made last night where it's kind of a troll video we show how to mod your keyboard and take the logo off and put something else on i was talking to someone from corsair and i kind of went yeah realistically i think everyone's going to forget because it only it takes this conversation we're having now for me to remember how much i hated the vengeance logo when i first saw it and i still hate it i think it's horrible i think that font i think the bright yellow was never good and that's something people are forgetting as well they're upset about the yellow in the gaming logo vengeance was already yellow branding yeah that said they didn't put vengeance on the product it was mostly on the box yeah that's true which helps a lot but i'm just saying i think that people will kind of forget about it eventually and who knows maybe i mean vengeance was only with us a few few years who knows maybe they'll rebrand it again at some point but i think that this was very much an overreaction i think corsair responded to it in the best way that they possibly could with yellow beards post yellow beards post so k70 rgb keyboards with red switches cherry mx red switches that already had the original logo will continue to exist for some time so people who really want the original logo on their keyboard can get it and then the other ones will have the corsair gaming logo so if you want blue or brown switches okay 65 or k95 the 10 keyless and the one with macro keys then you'll be you'll have to have the new logo and honestly if you do really hate it the guide line is posted is actually not even that bad just get a flathead screwdriver take it off like you can get rid of that glue residue pretty easily you can put like a cool decal there or something yeah put a cool deco fill it up with plasti-dip do something like it's it's not that hard to fix yeah so i i'm actually i'm amazed they got over seven thousand signatures on the keepfield logo petition oh man yeah so we wanna do like interesting topic or like deadpool yeah let's go with interesting time okay cool all right so we just got 14 nanometer so intel is is just now releasing products what is it core m or whatever it is yeah the the the mobile one yeah broadway yeah yeah so these like super super low power we're talking core i5 dual core class processors with beefy dedicated graphics in like fanless tablets like pretty cool stuff we just got those and now in the news intel's planning to spend another 6 billion this time on a 10 nanometer fab every single time they go down in manufacturing process everyone's like oh this is it they can't go any further there's no way technology can advance we've hit the end boys this is this is as far as we can go and then come outside yeah yeah a couple months later new manufacturing plant billions of dollars have been spent and they're gonna make smaller ones it's like okay cool so this was posted by jerokee on the jericho on the forum um you know it's funny along the lines of what you were just saying i remember my my um my ssd folsom campus tour yeah when i got to visit intel that one time and um i remember walking into a room where they basically said don't take any pictures or film anything in here and i kind of went why and it turned out that the whiteboard and like the drawings on it were and i think it's late enough now yeah 3d 3d nand is here 3d transistors are here but that was like the plan for for 3d you know i was like really that's cool it's like internal it's like drawings on a whiteboard i was like that is so cool yeah i'm geeking out right now i don't understand any of it but it's still awesome but it's still freaking cool yeah and i remember asking them questions in my interviews you know we keep hearing about the end of moore's law we keep hearing about how flash isn't going to continue to get higher density or whatever else and i think if you look at sort of a short term past sort of if you take a short term past chunk it might look that way i mean the iphone 6. if you look at devices if you look at it still comes in 16 gigs if you look at solid-state storage on its own though it is getting massively larger it is um but looking at phones and devices and stuff like that no but to to go back to the kind of growth we were seeing before i think we're gonna have to wait a little bit because that's about to happen again you we look at what they're capable of doing with ddr4 for example with some of the new uh the new dye stacking technologies you look at what samsung is doing with their new 3d nand where they're taking instead of having you know 20 nanometer class nand that's spread out horizontally they're stacking 40 nanometer class nand to get the same capacities and better reliability and better speeds with about the same raw material so they take that technology they shrink that down whoa capacities are not done yet every time that we feel like we hit some sort of wall someone goes oh hey if we climb it in this really weird way we can keep going that happens like every single time it'll make no sense and someone will come up with an alternative it will make tons of sense and we will keep on going and it's intel almost every time it's funny because i got called out on our fastest possible about process technologies manufacturing processes for like um favoring intel or like fanboying over intel because i brought up uh basically i alluded to their tick-tock um their tick-tock development process and i also i don't know what's going on with my computer and i also brought up the core m as my example of 14 nanometer processor but i went back and looked into it intel has been first to every process node over like the last 20 years and they hit a new one like every two years that's like not awkward yeah that's not a real point of debate yeah it's it's just a thing they're developing different like processors that different price skus and all that different architecture different architectures optimized for gaming yeah device for tablets yeah you can definitely debate all that kind of stuff but manufacturing they developed this thing at this date and then that's what happened there's i don't know there's facts posted by red round two on the forum the original article from anantek we actually um alluded to this just just a moment ago but the iphone 6 and iphone 6 plus our benchmark monsters so there you go there's the iphone 6 iphone 6 plus the 5s shield tablet windows phone are we going to find an android device that doesn't have a tiger k1 in it here we go oh boy so they are they are wrecking machines and they don't do that well in every single benchmark but they are at or near the top of the charts pretty much across the board so yeah the newest phone does the best things yeah i was gonna say as exciting as this might be and as great as it is that we're getting faster and faster mobile devices i think that the people who are disappointed in the iphone 6 are the same people who were disappointed in the galaxy 5s but just that happened to carry something with an apple logo in their pocket versus something with a samsung logo in their pocket i think we're all getting disenchanted with smartphones all the same time i am like hardcore that's that's a thing i i think we've talked about how phones are going through the same thing pcs did um but they're going through the same thing pcs did over like an extremely long period of time and they're like surpassing where pcs are at but then not getting that thing where pcs kind of dwindled for a little while and now we're awesome again i don't think they're really getting that and i don't know if they are going to no no the future for phones is definitely going to be in interface design and not in hardware at least over over the next little software usability hci which is called uh human computer interaction so just like how you use your phone uh like natural paper thing that android's trying to do all that kind of stuff is gonna be a really big deal yeah wearable devices i'm really disappointed in the moto 360. now that the reviews are out um i i actually walked into a best buy the morning of the launch kind of not really thinking about it i'd been napping in the car that was driving me from the airport to the nvidia event and i walked in i was like holy crap it's moto 360. do you have any and the guy at the till said yes so i just about bought one right there just so i could review it if nothing else and now i'm kind of glad i didn't because the thing that i was expecting it to disappoint me with is exactly what it's disappointing everybody with battery life yeah but it didn't need to it just did what was the size of the processor 40 nanometers yeah it was from 2010 or like ancient chips what are you doing um i mean the the the issue though and there there could be a hundred reasons why they would have gone with that processor there's also a hundred reasons not to there's a hundred reasons not to but there's there's a hundred reasons why they might have had to yeah but the the cold hard truth is until we get dramatically better batteries the only smart watches that will matter to me will be the ones with e-ink or murasol displays i don't want to charge my smart watch every single day yep i charge this every four days or so that's probably fine i would like seven i would like it to be a week some people get a week out of the pebble i don't because i'm a heavy user yeah um but the main thing for me is when you're at that awkward dinner and you just want to know how much longer you have to sit there across from that weird family member who you only have to see once a quarter or so and you want to glance at your wrist just freaking know what time it is that's important to me it's not a timepiece unless it does time well first that's true that's very true um luke pointed out to me a smart watch that's coming that has a transparent display over an analog watch face and this is something if you go back a whole bunch of lan shows like quite a few i was like they need to make an oled panel that goes on top of a normal freaking watch and can just turn on and give you notifications every once in a while so it can completely go off and you can just see the normal watch face under it because that's what a lot of people are going to watch kind of want because that is going to look super super classy and a lot of people want their high-end looking very nice mechanical watches and apparently it has happened speaking of wanting watches to look super super classy um kind of kind of funny story uh there are a lot of people who seem upset that apple's iwatch or whatever they end up calling it apple watch i guess so that apple's watch is going to be expensive it's like yeah how did you not see that coming how did you not see that coming watches that literally have no justification for being expensive are expensive watches are a fashion statement fashion statements are expensive yep watches and it works apple turned the phone into a fashion statement in a big way i mean they weren't they weren't the pioneer of it i mean motorola did a great job with the razer but apple turned the smartphone into the ultimate phone fashion statement but watches they don't even have to do any work people will already spend a thousand like normal people who work normal jobs will spend a thousand two thousand three thousand dollars on a watch that happens i know that technophiles who expect every thing that they own to be broken down in terms of the bomb cost like the cost of the raw materials that went into it i know that we don't necessarily accept that and if you look at me it's not like i'm i'm someone who wears a thousand dollar watch i expect things to be practical i expect them to have an actual value and an actual cost associated with making them but a lot of the world doesn't work that way no and apple would be foolish not to leverage that and that's why i've been saying we need those mechanical oled panel watches because those are going to be crazy expensive and that's what a lot of people are going to want to buy i don't want one way too expensive yeah that's what a lot of people are going to want i'd like to do a review of one even if we can just get a loner one for a little while but yeah speaking of a review uh i had a few people questioning my instagram post earlier today where i showed off my new 300 usb 3 cable i bought that thing what well i guess it'll be a review it'll be a review um but there's a justification for it it's the coolest usb 3 cable that has ever existed the highest tech usb 3 cable that has ever existed and it is a fiber optic usb 3k in fact it doesn't even adhere to the usb 3.0 standard there is no standard for a fiber optic usb 3 cable so the packaging's hilarious it says usb 3.0 optical so it's a 30 meter so it's literally 3.0 get it get it get it so this is a 100 foot usb 3 cable and i actually have a plan for something really cool that i'm going to do with it that all that i'll show off to you guys and that i think will make some sense at least to people who appreciate minimalistic design so so stay tuned for that there is a reason for it i haven't just completely lost my noggin all right uh amd india do you wanna do you wanna go through this one while i figure out what's going on with my internet connection here sure uh so that big announcement that everyone was talking about that was gonna happen on september 25th from amd it was like super exciting from amd and like oh my god it's probably gonna be a 390 or 390x nope nope nope they're bringing some graphics cards to india um so i don't actually know what ones it looks like mainly workstation cards so they're bringing a amd firepro w8000 and amd fire pro w9100 and gcn powered radeon r9 285 so they are bringing a 285 and then two workstation cards so yeah that was that super exciting announcement that was gonna happen on september 9100 does have 16 gigs of ram that's pretty freaking cool speaking of ram capacities continuing to grow yeah but it's weird when they're blasting a big announcement to north americans and europeans about like if they if they blasted this in india that makes tons of sense yeah because that is a big announcement in india i think it was it seems a little unintentional to me it looks a little bit like a miscommunication at amd like someone posted big announcement maybe even in india and then it got pushed everywhere yeah some in some the the press got a hold of the indian announcement i think some individuals at amd didn't really know what to do or what to say about it felt like they had to say something and uh ended up uh they could have specifically said it's a big announcement for india because it's pretty cool for india right but it's it's it's a very tied down announcement which makes sense but it's still a very tied down announcement so they could have clarified right i don't think that would have been a problem everyone started freaking out and then they could have been i don't want to downplay it either and like make it seem like yeah our announcement's lame so but it's not lame no it is it's just location tied i mean okay okay what they say about the 16gb gpu is that it allows users and i mean this is pretty cool to multitask efficiently across six 4k displays that's pretty sick is that not cool that's pretty sick six displayport 1.2 i mean the number of megapixels the sheer data rates involved with this it's very cool yeah it's just gamers and sort of the internet in general aren't really going to care about it yeah so i think they should have they should have checked their checked their announcement a little bit there's a little bit overthrown all right display port will work through usb type c that is incredibly good news i'm actually freaking cool pretty excited about that usb type-c is looking like it's going to be badass i'm just really hoping that connector is solid i know that's the only thing i'm worried about i was talking to uh to ryan smith from an on tech we were in the uh the shuttle on the way back to the airport together and uh i we were talking about usb type c and and because they had an article about it they were hands-on with it and i was like did you did you see it did you touch it he's like no no but i want to what oh so he specifically was okay i got it yeah yeah no someone else one of their other writers so i was we were we were just kind of speculating and talking about it a little bit we both agree that the lightning connector is probably about as elegant as it gets for a double-sided connector in terms of durability but we both maintain hope that usb 3 type c will be freaking awesome hopefully so just as a recap for you guys if you haven't already watched our fastest possible on usb type c which is now outdated because it includes displayport connectivity it is validated at up to super speed usb 3.1 so that's 10 gigabit per second bringing it back within sort of one leap of thunderbolt it can deliver up to 100 watts of power over a single cable so we're talking being able to charge your laptop over usb you can charge your laptop run a display off your laptop at the same time you can go either direction pretty awesome yep bi-directional it can it has alternate modes that support uh the use of existing uh hdmi dvi and vga adapters now that display port can be transmitted over it uh the display port over usbc carries up to 8.1 gigabit per second per lane this looks so awesome so when using all four lanes of the displayport alt mode you could drive a monitor at up to 5k resolution or up to and up to 4k uh excuse me so with existing displayport 1 cetera support up to 4k desktop resolutions with 60 frame rates at up to 30 bit color yeah so 4k usb 3 type c is a thing freaking awesome that's pretty sweet pretty stoked um we are almost out of time and we need to do the giveaway and we need to need to do sponsor spots and we need to do build blogs and we probably need to do some other articles okay well let's do our sponsors first huge thanks to squarespace for sponsoring the wan show uh yeah they're taking a little while because they're looking for network resources and then grabbing the local one that's why the scene switching is taking a while makes way more sense but if you had a squarespace website it wouldn't need to take a long time to load because squarespace ensures that your website will be functional it will be beautiful it will be affordable and it will be scalable we use squarespace for linusmediagroup.com and i don't think we've ever maintained it ever no that's actually kind of a problem yeah we need to go back and like update something it still looks beautiful and it's still entirely functional but it doesn't have all of our employees there's no headshots it doesn't include all of our shows i don't think there's a lot of missing information because i never even think about it it just works all the like screenshots from our like most bestest videos ever are like the ones we made in the first couple months of being a company i know so guys that's what squarespace does it means that you can focus on maintaining your business in other ways that don't involve micromanaging your freaking website whether it's a blog whether you have an online business where you sell something that some craft that you make or a service whether it's a portfolio promoting uh you know if you're a wedding photographer or whatever else squarespace sites work on desktop they work on mobile and they make sure that you put your best foot forward they've also got other great tools like their 24 7 tech support as well as their logo creator so instead of you know hiring a graphic design firm just to try to get started you can at least create something that looks good that you can use temporarily and get on your site and get up and running without hassle also if you visit squarespace.com linus and use offer code linus you can save ten percent and uh of course everyone who uses squarespace gets a free trial a free two-week trial i actually don't remember what uh what nick said about whether we are giving away a squarespace i don't have internet okay uh no it's okay well if we don't then we'll do two next time we have a squarespace sponsorship but every month we give a squarespace site away to someone who has signed up for a trial so they win their site for a year so that's squarespace's little way of being cool dudes this is pretty awesome actually thanks to squarespace they've actually been i think our second longest sponsor um after uh audible yeah they've been great supporters don't include how long we left razer at the bottom of the stream for yeah no no i don't mean long in terms of time period i mean going back the furthest they were one of our first non-tax sponsors yeah yeah um also lynda.com a relatively new sponsor but actually a fantastic one as well you can get a free trial by going to lynda.com show right now and you've used lynda.com so yes i've used lynda.com for quite a while to learn just random stuff uh more specifically targeted things if i'm like i need to know this thing about programming so i can do something with it i usually go to lynda.com for that my mom has used it for various things taryn one of our editors has used it to learn how to edit which is probably a good thing if he has to edit i wonder if he's using it right now while he's not working i don't know i would think so i mean his wrist is hurt that doesn't mean your eyes are broken so you can you can still learn things on the because not everything on lynda.com is just programming stuff they have tips for digital photography um so so there's and they're all taught by experts so there's tons of different things that you can learn on lynda.com uh plans start at 25 bucks a month i don't think there's that much more to say about it other than that there's no real commitment guys you can try it for seven days for free if you like it if you feel like you're learning something useful then keep on going and if you don't like it then you don't have to but we've seen here at linus media group alone that for at least two people lynda.com has provided some foundation for some skills that have turned into real employment opportunities which is i think one of the strongest things that we can say about yeah any sponsor that we have one thing that i always say about it is if you're planning on going to post secondary for programming start working on lynda.com right now and teach yourself before you go because your grades will be much higher you'll find it a lot easier i find a lot of people the first semester that they go to university for is kind of a mess because they're getting used to no longer possibly being at home how school works in different ways now and possibly certain electives that are pretty difficult or weird that you haven't done before so if you can make your your core courses easier which will be your programming courses if you're getting into programming that's that's invaluable so all right so thanks lynda.com and squarespace for sponsoring the lan show we appreciate your sponsorship i think our viewers appreciate your service and let's move on to our next topic then shall we blizzard cancels its next-gen mmo titan after seven years of development can you imagine having enough money as a company that you can work on something for seven years and then just go ah it's not turning out the way we liked it well valve trashed tf2 tf2 was like almost done and then they're like no and toss the whole thing away and then now they have what we have now which everyone kind of seems to love so they probably did the right thing and hopefully that's the same story with blizzard hopefully they just decided maybe this isn't the right direction after all and kind of pitched it or maybe they're just refocusing on wow that wouldn't even be too surprising uh world of warcraft is getting a massive graphical upgrade update with warlords of draenor and a whole bunch of other stuff is happening so it could be just can i try it again i haven't played since vanilla uh you could we're probably we're probably gonna have to actually yeah seeing us how you did that maybe not um we're probably gonna have to benchmark it when it comes out right because it'll be the biggest change in performance that that game has ever had since release that big it's just they've been pretty significant updates before but i don't think they've had one nearly this big interesting it's a pretty big graphical upgrade they have definitely had graphical updates yeah and one thing that they've done is they've just included more stuff right so there's more things to load in general especially with the new zones that came in with especially if you have longer longer draw distances longer distances uh so they've done a lot with it but i think this is the most in terms of uh actual texture files because like the characters are being upgraded a lot someone could correct me on that i could be wrong but i believe it is the biggest one they've had so far so they um they're they're talking about it actually pretty openly for blizzard which is surprising uh but they went back to the drawing board last year and now they're basically just saying well we made wow and we figured we knew how to make an mmo but here we are we're looking at this and we're not finding the fun and if it's not fun then what's the bloody point basically it's not the first time they've canceled a significant project that had a lot of hype around it yeah starcraft ghost was supposed to be an fps about ghosts i was pretty stoked for that actually a different ghost that was one of the most games that i was most hyped about ever i mean they just ripped it from reality i mean they had all that artwork of kerrigan and like that's gonna be cool nova so much for that um all right so we'll do a few rapid fire topics before we before we get into we have build logs and the giveaway yeah i know uh the 12 inch macbook air is rumored to maybe have a usb type-c port that would be very cool very unexpected i would expect apple to continue to support thunderbolt exclusively mind you with how many of the rumors about the iphone 6 were just completely out in la la land um i'd be surprised if this one's true sleeping dog sequel triad wars is going to be pc exclusive hopefully not as many bugs as there was in the console port uh led sli bridges have now been released so the ones used in the mod 24 rigs that modding competition that we checked out and that have been seen before in like nvidia showcase builds for quite some time yeah the uh here we've got a we've got a shot of them here so those sexy metal sli bridges that match the cards really well and they're also releasing two different spacings for dual card yes i saw that so they're releasing like side by side so especially if you have something like an m80x board you might want to have that and they're releasing the the like empty space between the cards i love it they're only 30 bucks for a two-way and uh 40 bucks for a three-way model which isn't that cheap but when you consider how much you've just already spent on your graphics cards i don't think it's that much of an adder yeah um yeah fantastic yep uh nintendo's quasi-qui-centennial what the heck oh okay whatever so they turned 125 on tuesday um for most of nintendo's life they produced cards toys and other random stuff and didn't transition to video games until actually the 1970s so uh pretty cool way to go nintendo happy birthday they've been doing a lot of great stuff lately actually they've totally turned around in the last little while uh even looking at stuff like their their dlc for mario kart that they're coming out with yeah absolutely fantastic they're gonna double the amount of uh tracks that there is or no they're they're 150 the current amount so adding 50 the amount of tracks a whole bunch of more racers whole bunch of new cars and they're they're continuing down that line with dlc and they kind of smash you know what you know what i like about what they did with mario kart because there's the usual argument where oh well it's dlc so you shouldn't have made us pay for it in the first place it should have been in the game they included exactly as many tracks as they normally do in a mario kart game so that complaint can just and that's a philosophy that's carrying into other games as well they've publicly said that they're not going to change that their golf game i've never played any of their golf games but apparently they have a minimum for the amount of courses and holes that will be in a golf game so every golf game nintendo has released has had a minimum amount and in the new one i think you get a hundred percent more or uh sorry i think it will be 50 more or 100 more i don't remember how many but there's a massive amount of holes in uh courses in the golf game again not really into that but people were freaking out about the dlc for that so i read up on it a little bit pretty interesting i'm down with dlc which is an actual expansion yeah i dlc because that's what dlc should be dlc is not new you know warcraft 2 beyond the dark portal would have been dlc if it was possible if it was possible and i'm totally okay with expansion packs i love expansion age of empires had dlc frozen throne was an amazing expansion back for warcraft three that's right and super good and if and if dlc legitimately builds on what was already a freestanding game adds more units adds new campaign tweaks actually i'm not sure if i how i feel about tweaking balance unless you're adding new units but but just if it enhances the game and gives brood war gives what originally had its own you know i feel like i got my money's worth out of it gives it a whole other set of that then i feel pretty good about it yeah i'm okay with that if it's like horse armor then yeah i don't know well i think okay you could say that and they took a lot of flack for that but hasn't the entire dlc industry turned into horse armor yeah and that's stupid but that's kind of our fault because people buy it i don't buy it but people buy it just stop and then it'll go away because it won't be worth creating art assets that people don't buy all right it's time dun dun dun to do the million subscriber giveaway don't even know if i can help you because my computer doesn't seem to be really getting internet oh hey it's working i'm on the uh i'm on the other writer i can help you all right so are we doing thatrandom.org or how's this happening we're going to random.org this shiz so basically we are drawing the winners for the custom-built gaming pc which i haven't gotten around to building yet but i will the custom-built gaming pc isn't it mostly built already no i haven't even touched it the video card's like on your bench i thought that was the razer one no oh no that's been torn apart oh i thought you were just like rebuilding that up and then we can't ship that case it's like got scratches and crap on it oh yeah yeah it's an engineering sample yeah yeah okay uh no no we'll find a case we'll find a good one we have a garage full of cases um so okay so custom gaming rig microsoft surface pro 3 the one that i bought to do my review and because i thought i might end up using it but i didn't really like it that much and whatever our last pro what was our last prize i don't remember ah yes we're redrawing the g550 from highlander because the person who won it never responded so the third time i think bummer for them all right so we're going to the thread we're going to draw it live uh 1 million subscribers thank you all hold on a second i gotta sign up back to here signing out scrolling down ctrl f searching wow clicking you are the most helpful person ever today viewing the random forum thread you're back to being dead taking you back off my shirt all right so the first two are gonna go to the first two people who are randomly drawn the third one we are going to keep drawing until we find someone who is a positively contributing member to the forum how are we judging that uh we're just going to kind of look at them and if we know who they are then they win this might be awkward i know we'll figure it out but maybe let's not say positively contributing let's just say contributing okay an actual member of the of the linus tech tips forum that participates for that participatory member of the forum why don't we say just for the sake of making life a little bit easier for ourselves why don't we say kind of um post count is good no no i don't want to use post count but post count doesn't matter at all but we'll we'll we'll kind of do a quick glance at their last few posts and make sure that they're actually trying to participate okay and i'm not going to be looking at anyone who started participating right when the 1 million subscriber giveaway started because i said that that was going to be a requirement and that i wanted it to be for people who have already participated without me offering them a laptop yeah yeah okay all right so let's do the first draw random.org 1119. oh my goodness min 1 119 generate so now we're going to go to page 742 in the thread click on that which this is on page 1. you can do that yeah and then oh no way that is amazing all right did you click go i mostly clicked go okay i think it i think it worked all right this is kind of a big thread i think everyone's looking at the forum yeah and everyone's probably looking at the forum right now because that will somehow affect their chances of winning i guess or something they'll be there with us oh derped refresh it yeah oh okay what page was it 742. let's make sure i got that right yes whoops yes i don't have a very good memory especially when i'm sleep deprived did you already have the thread loaded up yeah or did you load this okay everyone went to the forum the forum isn't hosted on squarespace yeah i know right okay so i really wanted to do this live but it looks like that is not going to happen i'm sorry we do like to do these draws live just so that you guys can can trust us that we can do a recorded video of it while the camera doesn't stop and we draw it there because that would be way too much production are we even going to release that i guess we can put it unlisted on the channel and like link it in the lan show doc here or something it would be a fun video oh i don't want to do a full video for that okay we'll we'll talk about it offline but um okay so in that case are you even able to do buildblocks then yes i sent you an email all right like right when the show started so it should be pretty recent to your lmg thing there we go all right here we go there's four things but you only need really two of them but if you download it you because you probably won't be able to view it in your browser you can try but i expect no so there was one choice by the community and there's one choice by the staff i don't know why that happened because i told them considering there were so many entries there should be like way more than one from each but apparently there's one from each so we're doing one from each for now because i didn't notice until today i probably should have checked so that was my fault at least you owned your mistake yep all right so uh slideshow so the first one is by sage c and this is project n64 i believe this one was the one chosen by the mods why is that the slideshow what the heck is this what powerpoint why you do why you why you do this that is super derp that better not be the was it like review slideshow from the beginning it should be what are you doing display settings maybe here we go what oh that's like presenter view okay i get it um it's not it's not a what oh hold on a second uh wait where did where did we get hold on one sec we're learning how to use powerpoint we'll be back yeah we're not going anywhere no i think they had the right one already no they don't it should it shouldn't be what are they looking at it's a duplicated screen is it is it frozen no i don't think so try to open your start menu maybe frozen not frozen oh it's an extended display why is it an extended display why is it extended we're supposed to do duplicate displays what is it doing i don't know what is it hi this is really weird so we're looking at a presenter view that is not oh my goodness all right so let's just let's just try previewing it from here this is why we don't make videos about microsoft software what were they thinking about powerpoint i guess who does make videos but someone should make a video about powerpoint because this would be ridiculous boring video they should present the video from powerpoint you should just record their screen and have a powerpoint presentation running i'm sure that i'm sure that people who use powerpoint all the time technically i use powerpoint all the time i just realized that right now but i don't use this version so that's my defense i'm sure someone's laughing at us and i'm sure that they're right and we're idiots or in the version that i use it's like super duper easy okay yay all right find a screen nope what are we looking at i have no idea not a clue what is it it's not showing your screen though because you just had a photo viewer app yeah it's not updating or something oh that's why i said open your start menu like it's not updating properly there's something else going on because it's yeah when you open your start menu it should have shown the start menu yeah it's not working oh okay well that explains a lot now then so let's see if uh did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in no no not yet um let's just see if this does a thing oh well okay okay okay new plan new plan don't worry you guys we're going to find a way to do this oh there you go that'll work i want to do build guides of the week dang it oh hold on something oh oh oh okay okay we heard back from nvidia just in time well actually right around the time we were talking about it on the show freaking called it that's all i have to say it is not nvidia's intention to restrict support to geforce pcs the reality is that the quickest path to releasing pc support was to release it through our existing geforce experience software we are working on a plan to support non-geforce pcs but currently cannot commit to a time frame for support all right faith restored because it made no sense like i didn't want to like go over it too hard but it made no sense no nothing in this but you were saying that there's something in in geforce's experience that it would have to be tied to well no what i what i was saying was that maybe like i could understand why geforce experience might be easier we can go back and you can watch the archive if you want okay i never said that i said that the touch pad might not work or something yeah but that makes no sense why not what what does d4 experience do that would have anything to do with that who knows the point is that as a controller i couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't work so anyway the point is completely valid none of that happened they just rolled it out through geforce experience because that makes a convenient way for them to roll driver updates out to people and it was really painless to get it working i just plugged it in and it worked which is nice all right yay faith restored nvidia good job you guys um let's go ahead and go back to luke's email here which hopefully i can find i can't even see it i get too many emails that top one top one top one top one there we go foreign my brain is exploding all right why did it download oh did you click both of them so what we'll have to do screen reaching captivity is uh yeah we'll just do screen region capture and then we will oh i don't know let's pick this scene or something okay add screen region all right stream section for a little bit here guys and slideshow from beginning so now we're just hoping that it's working yeah cool it's probably working projects okay do you do you want to give the background for this uh project n64 well let's just i think they've got that much so far by sage c let's go with them let's go with them so this is all the included components um which is not super important in my opinion you can check out all the included components and stuff if you go are you hating on his inclusion of a broken n64 no i think that's pretty cool because that was my actually this this is an interesting discussion that was my favorite part about listing the system specs of my mineral pc was when they asked for case right i was always like fish tank yeah so that's yeah i know that's pretty cool but the point of the build logs isn't necessarily like oh he used amd instead of intel like but that's not really the point so i don't really want to spend too much time on system this is the point of awesomeness that is this computer so yeah he shows in the beginning where he just kind of tore apart the n64 and started removing things then putting in his motherboard and whatnot and then if we move on forward you can see the end shots which are amazing wow that's ridiculous that's fantastic pretty freaking cool i've seen some like old console build of computer intuit builds but this one is kind of incredible even having seen those in the past that's really clean yeah it is extremely clean usually you see some sort of breakage and this is extremely well done all right super awesome so i believe that one was voted for by he stole my idea yeah no um i believe that one was voted for by the mods someone in the chat was like they stole my idea like yeah it's also been done before yeah the idea of building a computer in an old console is not really new no it's awesome and you did an extremely good job but it it probably wasn't your original idea and it yeah more people will do it in the future all right sorry i'm just trying to be careful not to i don't think anyone's personal information here so i'll be happy about that was it guest here we go all right so we've got our second one here so just in case you didn't know water cooled pc desk mod with car sound system this one's got some pretty nice specs two 780 ti's in sli lots of storage holy crap wow seven terabytes of storage plus the ssds although i don't think he tech no he didn't make it into the 10 terabyte thread yeah close enough and from what i've heard you're allowed to be a heathen and post in the 10 terabyte thread even if you don't have 10 terabytes oh just to like hang out with everyone if you want i guess i should i should post our uh our server when we get our new seagate drives we're getting some super high cap seagate drives for ours for our server that are going to make us maybe near the top of the 10 terabyte plus will we not be in red anymore because that would be nice i'm sorry we've been riding the red line for like months uh it's been relatively okay lately i expanded it to 21 terabytes and we offloaded four terabytes the other day there you go nice all right wow so it looks extremely similar to the nvidia desk that we went to go see yeah that's true not exactly the same at all yeah no but the uh the horizontal reservoirs uh the nvidia one had two completely separate pcs one on either side which kind of didn't make a ton of sense to me but whatever they're in video they do what they want i guess these dual power supplies in there pretty sick looking system oh yeah that is super cool gets a lot more sick than we had originally thought i'm face roll love all this got a couple optical drives in because you can dash console stuff in here because you can fan controller because you can pretty much everything about this build is because you can sick build very very cool so awesome i think that pretty much wraps it up for the lan show you guys thank you for tuning in all over 5 000 of you i think we had around 5 500 peak you guys are fantastic we appreciate it sorry about the problems at the beginning yeah we're sorry one thing to note is that our folding team and our blink teams are super awesome so you should go join them if you want to contribute your compute power to a good cause uh they're both doing extremely well i don't have numbers offhand here which whaler is probably going to stab me for but when you're blinking did you you haven't no i haven't there's a few mods that are on it and i'm on it i'm doing pretty good but i'm not at the top i think my dad might still be at the top or someone's finally passed him that's awesome i'm not sure we gotta get him some more hardware so he can stay there which we will be doing soon his dad helped us with the whole room liquid cooling thing so yeah and yes we will make videos about it and no they're not ready yet probably not coming soon yeah ed's on vacation for at least another week and then when he gets back if he has time then he will start working on that project start he hasn't started yet not really like he's done some but not it's not and there's quite a bit of footage to go through people are yelling about the giveaway again i think we already tried uh i don't think the forum is back up but i can check looks like new looks like not i'm sorry guys we'll have to we'll have to post the giveaway shortly yep all right thanks again for watching and as always don't forget to subscribe lions tech tips yay that was a different ending to the lan show that we don't normally do uh yes it was i'm i couldn't think of anything else forum does seem to be back oh no there goes no never mind because the thing is it came back up and then everyone was like giveaway it went back and then it went back down right it's like oh oh there's no there's no audio for the outro and also i didn't even have the thing on well yay we carried a couch and went through a swamp it happened you have to trust us\n"
