The A4 Estate: A Step Up in Terms of Usefulness
The IBA for estate aims to match a classy image with a practical body, and this particular model is definitely a step up in terms of usefulness from its already sensible Oda for saloon counterpart. The boot opening is wide and square, making it easy to lift big items in size, but there is a slight load lip to overcome. Fortunately, the space under the boot floor provides room for a space saver spare wheel, which is a thoughtful touch.
However, this means that there isn't anywhere to put the parcel shelf once it's been removed. Despite this limitation, the useful features of the IBA for estate are numerous and impressive. For example, there are a couple of Curie hooks, some storage nets for holding smaller items, and a 12 volt socket. These little touches make a big difference in terms of functionality and convenience.
One of the most interesting aspects of the IBA for estate is its boot space. The idea has a 505 litre boot that grows to 1500 litres with the rear seats folded down. This means that a stroller, golf clubs, and soft bags will fit easily in the back of the car. In fact, there's plenty of room for one large and two small suitcases to fold the rear seats down. Moreover, the floor is flat, making it easy to load in bikes or TVs without having to remove any wheels.
The versatility of the IBA for estate extends to its ability to accommodate different types of cargo. A4 Estate can swallow two large boxes, two medium boxes, two small boxes, and still leave enough room for a couple of small suitcases and two soft legs. This makes it an excellent choice for those who need to transport a variety of items.
The rear passenger area is also designed with comfort in mind. The roofline provides a touch more headroom than the A4 saloon, making it easier for passengers to stand up without hitting their heads. Additionally, legroom is impressive, but not quite as great as what's available in certain other vehicles, such as boxes like purses.
Fitting a child seat in the back of the IBA for estate isn't too much hassle either. The seats open wide and have removable ISOFIX clips out of the way, making it easier to locate the seat base in its fixings. This is a huge advantage when installing child seats, as it saves time and effort.
The interior storage of the A4 Estate is also noteworthy. Each of the door pockets has room for a big bottle plus some extra space for additional items. The glovebox is easily big enough to fit another bottle, and there are couple of big cupholders behind the gear selector. There's also a cubby hole in the center armrest with space for a wireless pad for charging mobile devices.
Overall, the IBA for estate compares well to its rivals in terms of design and functionality. While alternatives like the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb are more practical, they may not be quite as desirable in terms of style and features.
