Android P Early Beta Experience: First Impressions
I have been running the Android P Developer Preview on my Pixel XL, and I must say that it has performed really well despite being an early beta. The device's performance is smooth, and I'm impressed with how quickly it loads apps and navigates between them. However, there are a few hiccups here and there that need to be addressed.
One of the major issues I've encountered is when I turn on my phone for the first time in the morning, just by unlocking it, it gets really slow right away. This issue seems to persist even after I've been using the device for an extended period, and it's not uncommon for me to see the phone stutter and slow down significantly. It's possible that this is a software bug that will be resolved before the final release of Android P.
Another issue I've encountered is with the gesture navigation feature. While I initially found it intuitive to switch between apps by swiping up, double-tapping on the app switcher, and using other gestures, I did experience some glitches and stuttering when switching between apps. Specifically, sometimes the phone would "ghost" or appear to freeze for a split second before responding again. It's not a major issue, but it can be frustrating.
On the positive side, I've really enjoyed the new swipe gestures that Android P offers. Swiping up allows me to switch between different applications easily and quickly, which is a great feature that reminds me of webOS on older devices. The gesture to "go back" by sliding fast upwards is also very intuitive, although it's not as seamless as I'm used to with my iPhone.
One thing that has taken some getting used to is the new swipe gesture for switching between apps when using the Google Assistant by squeezing the phone. Sometimes, this feature doesn't work properly and will close on its own, requiring me to squeeze it again or restart the app. However, once I've gotten accustomed to it, it works beautifully.
Battery Life
----------------
One of the things that's always a concern with Android devices is battery life, and Android P is no exception. According to my device's battery report, full charge lasts about two days, 14 hours, and 52 minutes, which is decent but not exceptional. However, I've found that actual battery life has been better than expected.
Since the last time I charged my phone, it's been used extensively for tasks such as streaming audio, making phone calls, and using various apps. In this short period of time, I was able to get through about a day and a half without needing another charge, which is slightly less impressive than I'd like but still respectable.
In conclusion, while Android P has its quirks and areas for improvement, I'm impressed with the overall experience. The device's performance, gesture navigation features, and battery life are all solid, even if they're not entirely flawless. With some tweaks and bug fixes, this early beta could become a powerful operating system that sets the bar high for future Android versions.
Additional Notes
-----------------
One of the wallpapers available on my Pixel XL is included in this article, which I found to be a lovely landscape image with nice colors and a calming atmosphere. While it's not the most unique wallpaper out there, it does add a touch of beauty to an otherwise functional device.
I'd love to hear your experiences with Android P in the comments below! If you have any tips or insights on how to troubleshoot the issues I've encountered, please feel free to share them. And if you're one of the lucky few who's already running this early beta, I'd love to hear about your own experiences and any challenges you've faced along the way.
Finally, if anyone knows where to find the Google wallpaper app or has a link to download it, please post it in the comments below so others can check it out.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi everyone Aaron here for Zolo Tech and Android P has been out for about a week and I've been using it every single day on my pixel to excel and it's been performing pretty good I've been using it as my main phone I've been using this with another phone as well but I always carry two different phones and I use this on awful lot and this one in particular has been pretty good Android P for being such an early beta has performed really well but had a few hiccups here and there I was running the Developer Preview earlier which was more of an alpha build or late alpha really early beta on the pixel XL but the pixel to excel here is running it pretty well now the major issue I have is when I turn it on first thing in the morning just unlock it it gets really slow right away so maybe I'll go into it and I won't even be able to do this it'll just kind of stutter and be slow and sometimes when I want to switch between apps it's very stuttery and slow the other thing I noticed when I have an issue with it is if I'm using the Google assistant by squeezing the phone just like that sometimes it doesn't work and it will just close by itself so I'll squeeze it to whatever I'm doing and it will close and then it will work fine after one or two tries and then it works fine for hours and then it might do it again later so that's just a bug in the software and it's to be expected in an early beta now these gestures though we're taking me a little bit longer to get used to than I thought now I'm used to an iPhone tens gestures because I use that as well and when you slide up you can switch between different applications really easily I like this it's a great way to do this swipe them off to close them real simple it reminds me a lot of webOS and tap to go back slide fast to go to the absolutely app drawer and it works really well the one gesture I have a little bit of a hard time with is this if I want to switch between apps slowly and you see there's a bug right there showing right now so you get a few glitches here and there but for them now it's doing another weird ghosting thing so I haven't seen that one before so that's apparently an issue sometimes too now but when I switch between apps this is not the most intuitive for me but I do like how you switch really quick between apps doing this and double-tapping that app switcher they had before I find it very intuitive and I am getting used to it and Google has said that they're going to make this smoother so Android P when it's finally released this whole experience with the swipe gestures will be a little more smooth than it is now but overall I think it's pretty good especially for an early beta now battery life is always a concern you can see I'm at 40% now let's take a look at the battery you'll see batteries at 40% it says it's in good shape apps are running normally and it's been plugged in a little bit today and it wasn't fully charged though so it says full charge lasts about two days 14 hours 52 minutes let's go up here to advanced and you'll see that app usage since full charge 47 hours ago I really do get great battery life on this phone overall but using it throughout the day I do make a lot of phone calls on it it just seems to be holding up well it isn't as good as it was on the previous Android version for me I can get through a day and a half maybe two days no problem now I get through oh I don't know a day day and a half now so it's a little less but not too much of an issue I do really enjoy the experience I use this a lot for apdex audio streaming using an accessory I'll talk more about in another video sometime but this is a really great phone and other than those few things for an early beta I have no issues whatsoever I think it's great especially like I said for something so early on it's just super fast most of the time except for those few little glitches I mentioned but I'd love to hear your experience in the comments below and oh if you'd like to get your hands on this wallpaper this is actually one of the built-in wallpapers I just got it from the landscapes within the wallpaper app itself I said it is a daily wallpaper and that's one of them that showed up so it's in here if you'd like to get it I don't have a link to it because I guess it's right here but I don't have a specific link to is it's not as easy to get through there but if any of you have that link please post it below so others can check it out that might not be on a pixel with with that Google wallpaper app let me know your thoughts about it how it's working for you if you have one of the few selected devices that Android P works on right now I'd love to hear what you have to say and if you haven't subscribed already please
