Getting a First Look at the Clicks Case: A Comprehensive Review
As a long-time user of physical keyboards, I was thrilled to get my hands on the latest innovation from Clicks – a case designed specifically for smartphones. The case promises to bring back the tactile experience of typing on a physical keyboard, and I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype.
The ease of installation was one of the first things that impressed me. I slipped on the case at an angle and then pulled the lip over the top of my phone, and it fit perfectly. The material used in this prototype is not exactly what will be shipped, but it's clear that Clicks has put a lot of thought into designing a case that feels premium without breaking the bank.
One of the standout features of the Clicks case is its pre-programmed shortcuts. I was excited to try out the two shortcuts that Clicks offers: one for going back to the home screen using Command + H, and another for scrolling through browser windows by tapping the space bar. Both of these features were incredibly handy, especially when browsing media websites or reading specific articles.
Another feature that caught my attention was the placement of the delete key. I have to admit, I was initially skeptical about having the delete key below the P key on the keyboard, but after speaking with the founders of Clicks, I realized that this design decision was intentional. According to them, they designed the last row of keys to be shorter in order to accommodate more Corner keys, which are more easily accessible when your thumbs are on the outside ends of the keyboard.
The emoji keyboard is also a great feature, available with just one button press. This allows you to easily toggle between different emojis and express yourself in a more nuanced way.
In addition to its design features, I was pleased to find that both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models fit comfortably into my jeans pockets. The case is also very lightweight, making it easy to carry around without noticing it's even there.
When it comes to size, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a slight advantage over the iPhone 15 Pro in terms of button spacing. If you have larger hands or prefer to be able to mash your keys more vigorously, this might be a deal-breaker for you. However, for users with smaller hands like mine, the iPhone 15 Pro is the better choice.
The tactile experience of pressing the keys down was also noteworthy. While it's not quite as satisfying as typing on a physical keyboard, it's clear that Clicks has put a lot of thought into designing a case that feels premium without being too bulky or expensive.
As I continued to use the Clicks case, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. There's something about the tactile experience of typing on a physical keyboard that just can't be replicated with a touchscreen interface. However, I also recognize that not everyone will share my love for physical keyboards, and the Clicks case is clearly designed to cater to users who want to bring some of that experience back into their smartphone lives.
Speaking of which, we spoke with the Clicks team about their plans for future colors. While they did show us a prototype in a lovely shade of pink, it's clear that more options are on the horizon. Stay tuned, because I have no doubt that the Clicks case will be available in a range of colors and styles soon.
When it comes to pricing, Clicks has set its mark at $139 for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro, with $159 being the price tag for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. While this may seem like a lot upfront, I believe that the value proposition is clear: you're getting a premium case that feels designed specifically for your smartphone, complete with features that cater to users who want a more tactile experience.
Of course, the question remains: would I go back to using a physical keyboard on my smartphone? For me, the answer is yes. While I appreciate the convenience of touchscreen interfaces, there's something about the tactile experience of typing on a physical keyboard that just can't be beat.
So if you're like me and miss the feel of physical keyboards, or if you simply want to try out a new way of interacting with your smartphone, the Clicks case is definitely worth considering. With its range of features, premium design, and competitive pricing, it's clear that Clicks has hit on something special.
