Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti vs RTX 2060 - 16 Games Tested!

**Comparing the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT**

We put the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 up against the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT to see which graphics card comes out on top. In this comparison, we'll be testing both cards at various resolutions and with different games to determine their performance.

**Performance Comparison**

The results of our tests show that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 is performing better than the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT in most cases. At 1080p, the RTX 2060 was coming out 14% ahead of the average FPS on both cards. However, this lead grew to 18% at 4k. Similarly, the RTX 2060 performed better than the RX 5600 XT at 1440p, with an average increase of 15% over the RX 5600 XT.

**Performance Breakdown**

When testing individual games, we saw some variation in performance between the two cards. For example, The Witcher 3 was tested with Ray Tracing disabled and performed very well on both cards at 1080p and 1440p. However, when Shadow of War was tested using the built-in benchmark with high settings, it was actually slightly worse on the RTX 2060 than the RX 5600 XT at 1080p. The game's performance on the RTX 2060 improved slightly at 1440p and 4k, but still trailed behind the RX 5600 XT.

**Overall Performance**

In terms of overall performance across all 16 games tested with a resolution of 1080p, the RTX 2060 was performing 12% better than the GTX 1660 Ti. When testing at 1440p, the RTX 2060 outperformed the RX 5600 XT by an average of 12.3%. However, when testing at 4k with high settings, neither card was able to achieve great performance.

**Upgrade Path**

Based on our test results, we don't think that upgrading from a GTX 1660 Ti to an RTX 2060 is a worthwhile path for most users. While the RTX 2060 does offer better performance in some cases, the price difference between the two cards is significant. At the time of recording, the RTX 2060 was priced around $370, while the GTX 1660 Ti was priced around $310.

**CPU Heavy Games**

In CPU-heavy games like Assassin's Creed, we saw a smaller improvement from the RTX 2060 over the RX 5600 XT. This suggests that the GPU is not as much of a bottleneck in these types of games. However, in some cases, such as Shadow of War, the GTX 1660 Ti was still slightly ahead of the RTX 2060.

**Conclusion**

Ultimately, our test results suggest that the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT offers similar performance to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 at lower prices. While the RTX 2060 does offer some advantages in certain cases, the price difference between the two cards makes it hard to recommend upgrading from a GTX 1660 Ti.

2060 win for so c so both cards are factory overclocked a bit out of the box which will slightly affect frame rates so expect slightly different results with different cards the system that i'm testing with has an intel i7 8700 k cpu overclocked at a 5.0 gigahertz and an msi is at 390 gaming per carbon motherboard along with 16 gig of tea force Nighthawk co 16 memory from Team Group running at ddr4 3200 angel channel check the links in the description for details on all of the components as well as for up-to-date pricing the same windows updates and Nvidia drivers were used for the testing so let's get into the results let's kick things off with Apex legends which was tested with all settings maxed out in all upcoming graphs I've got the RT X 2060 shown by the top bar in red while the GTX 1660 Ti is shown below in purple while the three different resolutions 1080p 1440p and 4k as shown on the left in all tests in terms of average FPS the 2060 was coming out ahead of the 16 60 TI however the difference seems to be larger at low resolutions at 1080p the 2060 was 23% ahead of the 16 60 TI the largest result out of all 16 games tested at this resolution a sent ahead at 1440p than just one point three percent ahead at 4k with no major difference Assassin's Creed Odyssey was tested with the built-in benchmark using high settings and there's less of a difference between the two in this game at 1080p the r-tx 2060 was 5% ahead of the gtx 1660 TI 6% ahead at 1440p then 9% ahead at 4k this game saw one of the smallest differences between the two graphics cards out of all 16 tested battlefield 5 was tested in campaign mode rather than multiplayer as it's easier to consistently reproduce the tuss hram both cards were providing a playable experience at 1080p and 1440p resolutions however the RT x 2060 was 15% faster in terms of average FPS at both 1080p and 1440p and that a massive 30% ahead at 4k granted it wasn't really playable at 4k on either card anyway Far Cry new dawn was tested using the built-in benchmark with high settings and it wasn't too much of a difference between the two here at 1080p were looking at an 8 percent higher average frame rate with the RT X 2060 then 11 percent of 1440p and almost 14 percent of 4k with even smaller differences seen between 1% lower results far cry 5 was also tested using the built-in benchmark with high settings and this game was seeing higher FPS over the new a far cry new dawn just shown the improvements were pretty similar with the RT x 20 67% ahead of the GTX 16 60 TI at 1080p 12 percent ahead at 1440p and then also 14% ahead at 4k with a little more improvement to 1% low this time for tonight was tested using the replay feature with the exact same replay on both graphics cards at 1080p the r-tx 2060 was 17% ahead of the GTX 16 60 TI 20% of 1440p the largest difference out of all 16 games tested at 1440p and then 21% higher average FPS at 4k there were also fair improvements to 1% lower with a 14% boost at 1080p 10% to 1440p and 16% of 4k where the 1% low at 4k from the 2060 wasn't too far below the average FPS from the 16 60 TI metro Exodus was tested with a built-in market high settings the actual game performs a fair bit ahead of this so this is more of a synthetic test but it does allow me to accurately compare between the two graphics cards as it performs the same test run on each with very little variants with that in mind in this test at 1080p there was a huge twenty percent improvement with the r-tx 20 60 at 1080p and 1440p and 17 percent higher at 4k making this one of the biggest improvements over the 16 60 TI out of all games covered shadow of the Tomb Raider was also tested using the built-in benchmark with high settings this seems to be more of a graphically intensive test and there were even improvements as we step up in resolution at 1080p the r-tx 2060 was giving us 13% higher average FPS when compared against the GTX 1660 Ti rising to 14% of 1440p and then 15% of 4k Rainbow six seed was tested using the built-in benchmark at high settings with a 50% render scale and taa in use as these were the default with the presets interestingly the 1% low results from the RT X 2060 were actually behind the 16 60 TI in this test but this is one game I have consistently seen odd performance in since invidious nuturing cards came out in average frame rate the 2060 was 8% ahead of the 16 60 TI at 1080p 13% ahead at 1440p then 16% higher at 4k csgo was tested with the you let achill FPS benchmark and both cards were delivering very high frame rates at 1080p the RT x 2060 was getting 9% higher average frame rates when compared with the gtx 1660 TI 8% @ 1440p and then a 13% boost was seen at 4k that was a slightly higher improvement seen in the 1% lows a 14% improvement at 1080p 8% to 1440p and 14% of 4k with the 2060 however which was tested in the practice range as I can easily perform the same test run compared to play with but saw other players which will differ every time both graphics cards were capable of playing this well optimised game at 4k even with ultra settings in use and very high frame rates were achieved at low resolutions I doubt you'd really notice a difference playing on either at both 1080p in 1440p the our text sixty was giving us 17% higher average FPS over the GTX 16 60 TI then 16% higher at 4k pub G was tested using the replay feature with the exact same replay at high settings this was another game my 1440p with good settings was quite playable but I wouldn't want to step up higher to 4k with either with the resolution set to 1080p or 1440p the r-tx 2060 it was performing 15% above the gtx 1660 TI in average FPS then slightly higher at 17% with 4k larger improvements was seen to 1% ler at 1080p though which is arguably more important once high averages are achievable watchdogs to is a resource intensive game and was tested with high settings in my opinion this one doesn't need a high frame rate to play I can get by with a solid 30fps so both cards were actually giving me a playable experience at 4k at 1080p we're looking at just a 6% improvement to average FPS 10% of 1440p and then 14% of 4k where the 1% lawyer from the 2060 was now very close to the average FPS from the 16 60 TI Ghost Recon was tested with a built-in benchmark and high settings in use and is another resource heavy game the RT X 2060 was coming out 14% ahead in average FPS at 1080p and 1440p then 15% ahead of the 16 60 TI @ 4k similar improvements were seen to the 1% lows though they look much nicer on the 2060 in this graph 14% at 1080p and 1440p then 18% higher at 4k the frame rate of 4k with either card wasn't great but respectable fps was possible at 1440p law The Witcher 3 while shadow of wall seems to be the only one that prefers the 1660 Ti for some reason at 1440p on average over the same 16 games the RT X 2060 was now scoring twelve point three percent higher average frame rates when compared with the GTX 1660 TI so only a very small change to the average over what we just saw in the 1080p results at 4k the RT X 2060 was now an average fourteen point four percent better than the GTX 1660 Ti in these games the average framerate difference typically improves further as we step up in resolution and stop becoming more GPU bound despite seeing the highest improvement in terms of overall average at this resolution neither of these cards were really able to play 4k well with the high settings I used I haven't tested overclocking here as a results aren't guaranteed and will vary between hardware based on whatever clocks you can get realistically it generally only makes a couple of FPS difference but I'll cover overclocking in the full review videos for each of these cards so get subscribed for that now for the final difference the price I suggest checking updated prices using the links in the description as prices will change over time at the time of recording in the US my r-tx 2060 goes for around 370 u.s. dollars while the gtx 1660 TI i'm testing with is 310 US dollars i am using the higher-end 1660 t either it just happened to be a good deal for me here in australia when i bought it lower end models can be had for around two hundred and eighty dollars ler when we look at the exact models i'm testing with it costs 19% more money to grow from the 1660 TI to 2060 although if we factor in a cheapest 1660 TI at $280 that rises to 32% more money given we're seeing 12% to 14% higher average FPS over all three tested resolutions in these 16 games i find it hard to suggest to the RT x 2060 as the 1660 TI is better value for the money for the performance that is providing considering in most cases i couldn't tell the difference while playing on either 1080p or 1440p I personally been leaning towards playing a 16-6 TTI from what I've seen so far in the few games we have that support it RTX doesn't perform all that well on the 2060 anyway so I wouldn't be upset to miss out on that feature at this time the 1660 Ti is offering a similar experience for less money and is what I'd go for at the moment maybe if there are some nice latte express cuts things could change if you're watching this in the future and already have a 1660 TI and you're thinking of upgrading to a 2060 it's hard for me to say right now as by that
