Voyo i7 Hands-On Review & Unboxing
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enSo this is the Voyo i7 that I have hereand as the name applies it is an i7laptop this one so it has a 15.6 inchscreen 1080p it has 8 gigabytes of RAMand the CPU is the i7 6500 U and the GPUuses as an nvidia 940 M X so that's thesame spec you get on charmese menotebook air 13 the ultimate versionthey like to call it but it comes out tobe quite a bit cheaper this model itsells for around about 560 u.s. at thetime of this review so the specs therearen't the latest it also has a oneterabyte hard drive which of course isgoing to be slow for an operating systembut luckily it does have an m2 PCIe slotin this so you'll be able to upgrade toan SSD if you're not happy with runningoff a hard drive which I personallywon't be because I find that to be waytoo slow especially in 2017 so the specsinclude wireless AC but it couldactually be Wireless in I need toconfirm that it has a 13 thousandmilliamp hour battery on there whichhopefully is gonna be good for aboutseven hours for me to build backlitkeyboards and plenty of ports on it aswell including an SD reader so let's getthis one unboxed go through my initialfirst look and then later on I'll havemy full review of course so thisnotebook did come double boxed and itwent via England with DPD to me to SpainI didn't have to pay any taxes on thisbut it did take about 17 days to arrivefrom first all the time to actuallygetting it on my doorstep okay so it iswell padded in there and we can see thatthe power supplies on the side and itdoes have an EU plug so the outputvoltage is 19 volts three point four twoamps and the tip itself positive in themiddle negative on the outside fivepoint five millimeters in diameter quickWindows 10 user manual that's in Chinesein English a little warranty card andsome useful reminder just about chargingit first before you use itlaptop weighs in at one point nine fivekilos so thickness it comes in to bearound about nineteen millimeters nowthat's not counting that rubber footthere with the rubber foot then it'sabout 24 millimetres so along the bottomthere are two downwards firing speakerswe have some vents there and inintake for the fan so it's just got onefan on it now the lip just like thebottom made out of a metal that's anallied have used and it seems reasonablyfun and there's a little bit of flicksand they're not too bad I did noticethat it's got this funny like littleplastic lip here for opening it up andthere we have the backlit keyboard andthe touchpad there so reasonably largesized touch base hopefully it's aprecision one so you can see above thekeyboard there we have the power buttonwhich is on the far right hand sidethat's circular button some status LEDsand there are shortcuts there for yourvolume mute disabling the wirelesstouchpad putting into sleep and thescreen brightness controls includinganother button there for thebacklighting on that keyboard have alook at the keyboard flex not too badthe keys feel okay of course I have totype on it and I'll report back on thatin my full review but it's nowhere nearthe quality of the xiaomi mean notebookpro's keyboard the screens got a screenprotector on it that's not even designedfor the screen but i think it's just acourse to protect it in transit webcamand what looks to be a microphone thereat the top and this is the furthest thatthe screen will recline the hinge seemsgood it's quite stiff it's firm doesn'tfeel loose at all which is positive soon the left side we've got dcn two USB2.0 ports headphone jack and then our SDcard reader now it'll probably be USB 2speeds this one because this looks likeit's all connected up with a USB 2 hubthen on the right side type c port whichmay be USB 3.1 i hope it is i hope itdoes support video out and charging orat least support charging and data thenwe have an hdmi port which is upsidedown and then 2 USB 3 ports so it turnsout to be a little bit thicker andslightly longer in length than my menotebook pro ok so the build quality sofar doesn't seem to be amazing it'sdefinitely not premium but it's ok for500 and60 us that this cost more or less so farbut I have seen some minor littleimperfectionsfor example I've noticed this right herethere's their little scratches along theplastic trim that's just above thekeyboard and below the screen therethink it's being scratched by the metalbezel that's going around the screen andyes those bezels are exactly thin eitherso gaining access to the internalswasn't too difficult just how to removeall of the screws on the rear nowthere's a couple of things I wanted topoint out in here that the batterycapacity according to what's on here ifyou believe that is 48 watt hours whichI happen to believe it's not a hugecapacity is it so right under thisribbon cable here that goes to the USB 2ports there there is the PCIe slot thereso that's m2 spec and where the screw isis for the 20 to 80 size right there andwe've also got at the top here you cansee a 2.5 inch hard drive right there sothat's a one terabyte one it'll probablybe 7200 rpm or even 5400 it's gonna beslow you really want to install an SSDin there so we have one cooling fan withtwo copper heat pipes you can seerunning along here now for any modelsout there already seen room that if thethermals turned out to be a little bitpoor we can probably put thermal padsalong this whole copper pipe here andhaving it come in contact but the rearalloy lid and that of course could helptransfer a little bit of heat away fromthe chipset but it will of course heatup the bottom of the laptop now thereare couple of positives here too that wecan change the wireless card so it's gotan Intel 31 60 it is wireless AC sowhat's being listed on the website isincorrect I didn't believe it hadwireless in to start with cause that tome seemed crazy and then the other oneas well to that we can upgrade the RAMwhich is really good something you can'tdo on a lot of laptops nowadays but it'sonly a one single sodam slot so it'sdouble data rate spec it's a double datarate three sorry low powered and the RAMI can see is rated to 1600 megahertz soyou could in theory put faster RAM inthere plug-and-play stuff or increasethe capacity if you're not happy with an8 you can put a single one 16 gigabytesstick in there and then either side ofcourse we've got thesebecause that do look rather cheap to meoverall the internals look fine itdoesn't look super high-quality asexpected for this price range but it isgood to see that we can upgrade the harddrive at an SSD we can also easily repaystit we can also change the wirelesscard in RAM so that's goodnow the slot looks like it's going tosupport set at 3 and PCIe SSD s I'mgonna try my samsung 960 Evo hopefullyit will be running at times for speeds Ido not like this design choice of havingthe ribbon cable going over a hot SSDnow if you've ever used these SSDsbefore which I have the 960 Evo's andpros can get really hot too so let'sfind out later on after a couple ofyears or even years use if it's going toend up causing damage okay so what aboutthe screen well don't have some goodnews at all here they had to cut cornerssomewhere didn't they with this hardwareyes it's a TN panel I mean looking at itstraight on now this has had obscenebrightness it looks fine it's anti glarebut look at this colors they're startingto shift and that that's just that'shorrendous in a typical TN panel soyou're gotta be looking at it straighton so if you wanted to use this laptopfor showing people photos or watchingvideos with your partner or somethinglike that then it's gonna be a littlebit difficult because you have to lookat it both of youstraight on here but I mean other thanthat yeah I mean it's ok but TN panel alittle bit hard to swallow here I meaneven at the price of this this laptophere I know deal-breaker isn't it sohere's the model of that TN panel so ifyou want to Google that find a littlebit more information about it now I havebeen just using the touchpad a while itseems okay but it's not definitely themost accurate it's not using Windowsprecision drivers either you can seethat's just the plain settings we getwith Windows but it is an eland brandedone and we do have some control so wecan tweak a few things here with thegestures MOLLE finger ones that you wantto do so you've got your zoomingscrolling rotation all of those optionsare there so better than the superlow-end touch pads we get but stilldefinitely run-of-the-mill kind oftouchpad so far in my use of itso it isn't all doom and gloom I'mrunning a benchmark here with crystaldis mark of that samsung 960 Evo and itis running at its full speed here soit's PCIA times four so that is reallygood to see or you can use a set ofthree one if you've got a set of threeSSD now I did boot this PC of courseusing the included one terabyte harddrive which you have about 96 oh no mysorry not 96 but 910 gigabytes free sothat is good but of course it is so slowit but time took about like 30 secondsor even more and even to pull up thedevice manager here to look ateverything took a little bit of time soyou can see the processor there yes it'sthe Intel i7 6500 you know that's got amaximum turbo of 3.1 gigahertz it's adual core with four threads so the neweighth generation ones that I've justbeen testing out they've bumped thingsup a little bit because they've doubledthe amount of cause they're no longerdual cause now but they've switched overto quad cores so the performance is alot better there now just to gauge theperformance I have run a couple ofbenchmarks here well Geekbench isbenchmark so the CPU school is theirsingle core score multi-core score andthen the GPU so that nvidia 940 MX getsan open CR score of 23,000 the new onethe new model which is the MX 150 on thePascal architecture that gets aboutforty thousand or around thirty-ninethousand so quite a bit faster there andthis is probably slower because of thisif you have a look here you can see thatjust to confirm that yes the memory typeon that GPU is double data rate threeand not double data rate five so we'remissing out on some of that memorybandwidth there which only 14.4 now theydon't seem to have any bloatwarewhatsoever it's just got the Elandrivers on there for the touchpad andthen this thing called control centerwhich I happen to like what it is is abasic application to control the fanspeed so at the moment it's in auto modeand if you put it into quiet mode then Ican already hear that fan is starting toramp down so it's just shifting the RPMsfor certain temperatures so in quietmode it'll lower the RPM so it doesn'tmake so much noise on cool mode it willbe a little louder but keep it a littlebit cooler but thermals and all thatwillbe up-and-coming probably in my fullreview I was around the Haven benchmarkas you can see here this score was notbrilliant it's quite low lower thantheir mean notebook ear 13 because ofthat slower RAM on the GPU now do haveHW info running and then when we have alook at the temperatures you can see theGPU has reached 69 70 degrees this isafter all the benchmarking I've justbeen doing now my initial testing phaseand the CPU is well 70 degrees with justthat single fan so that's lookingpromising the thermals just above thekeyboardgetting a little warm there checked itbefore was about 39 degrees so it's nottoo bad and this is what the backlitkeyboard looks like so it's reasonablybright individual it up those keys allof them there and there's two settingsslightly dimmer or this one here whichis the full brightness so I have done abit of typing on this keyboard now andit's actually quite good it's bit betterthan I thought not a bad keyboard totype on same goes for the touchpad nowafter using it for a little while it's alot better than those entry-level superbudget trackpad to get so I mean it's aproper brand from Elan and overall yeahthe keyboard is good trackpad is finetoo so two downwards facing speakerslet's have a listen to themso they do have a bit of volume to thembut they definitely lack bass they'renot quality speakers they sound veryflat indeed so you're probably gonna bedisappointed if you wanted some nicepunchy sounding speakers not these onesso this is about my further tip now toget Linux to boot on it from the USBpendrive that I hope you can seeinserted there it won't work for somereason it just goes over into there onekey recovery system that voyer have setup to completely restore that hard drivethat's on there so it is failing to bootfor some reason and also note there youcan see that the SD cards they stick outlike this which isn't too great so youcan probably see break them off if youforget to pull it out and put it into abag or something and the other thing toto point out that the type-c port doesnot seem to be USB 3.1 I didn't think itwould be it won't actually take power aswell and it does have a power symbolnext to the USB symbol there but forsome reason no charging on this so itreally comes down to one thing so far inmy testing of this laptop here that ithas a deal-breaker with that TN panel alot of people are not going to like thatnow it looks perfectly fine as you'reprobably seen in some of my video herewhen you're looking at it directly somost of the time I've had the camerapointing right at it so we're notgetting those bad viewing angles whichyou know they are bad when the screengoes down a little bit you can see whathappens there that it shifts out that itreally is just the only kind of thingthat's really bad okay the speaker'sthere Tonythe build quality of course is not atall at the same level as the Xiaomi menot Book Pro which is in the backgroundthere but that's another class of laptopthat's a premium one this is a budgetone so it's to be expected so thekeyboard is actually turned out to bequite good to type on it's backlittouchpad is fine as well now there's afew other areas that answer great forexample the SD card sticks out but thenthere's those positives Rams upgradablewe can add your own SSD you can changethe wireless card if you're not happywith it and of course you can even putan SSD swap out that one terabyte driveso the base configuration coming withthe terabyte drive with the operatingsystem on it it's very slow and sluggishand not good at all I don't like thatso you probably going to have to investthen getting an SSD if you end upgetting one of these if you're notworried about that screen that is so itreally comes down to it do I need to doa full review of this one here wealready know it's got that big calm withthe screen how do we also know that theperformance of it is going to be lessthan the mean notebook here because ofthe RAM on that GPU so it's not doubledata rate five it's double data ratethree sure we might be able to overclockit a little bit but I did do a littletest and when I went up to about 350megahertz on the RAM it ended up causinga blue screen and crashing windowscompletely so don't think we can reallypush it too much higher thermals seemokaybattery life is so far just looking atwhat the estimates have been from mybattery bar pro meter that I have inthere we're looking about five to sixhours so it's not really that good sofor 560 us yeah you know it all comesdown to again that screen is that goingto be a deal-breaker for you do you wantthis power if not you're probably betteroff saving up and getting Shelby's meannotebook ear which has a similar specthe i7 model but it is a little bit moreexpensive but you'll find the GPU is abit faster and if you can even say abouteven more money if you've got about 900u.s. to spend then of course there isthat Xiaomi me notebook pro that's inthe background there\n"
