$10,000 Part on 488 Repair Might Be Bigger Issue

The Car Repair Saga: A Rush to Fix and the Challenges of Owning a Ferrari 488

As I sat in my car, surrounded by tools and parts, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness. We had received a rush order for repairs on our Ferrari 488, and it was imperative that we get it fixed as soon as possible. The door panel was damaged, and without it, the car couldn't be rented out to customers. The insurance company was also being pursued for loss of use, but I didn't want to spend three or four months waiting for parts to arrive.

"I've never seen a Ferrari 488 naked before," I said to myself, "and there's something that all 488 owners have in common." It wasn't until then that I realized the exhaust pipe was smaller than expected. I hit my ass on it and couldn't help but laugh at its tiny size. The turbo had allowed Ferrari to create a much smaller exhaust system than they normally would have, which was a testament to their engineering skills.

However, this also meant that the 488 had a fundamentally different sound profile compared to other Ferraris. It didn't have an exhaust note like the 458 or 430, and it certainly wasn't as aggressive as the 360. Despite its sleek design, the 488's sound was somewhat lacking. I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to own one of these cars long-term.

"I think the Ferrari 488 is not the one that people want," I said to myself. "People are defaulting to the 458 because they look good and sound good." The 430, with its updated design, was also gaining popularity among enthusiasts. But when it comes to depreciation, the 488 would likely be the equivalent of a 430 versus a 360.

I decided to do some research on the long-term value of the 488 compared to other Ferraris. According to my findings, the 458 is probably one of the best last Ferraris that you can own and will hold its value well in the long term. The driving experience it provides, combined with its sound, is unmatched by other modern Ferraris.

As I continued to work on the car, I couldn't help but think about the future of Ferrari's lineup. With new cars coming out, including electric models, it's uncertain what the future holds for traditional gas-powered sports cars like the 488. But for now, I'm happy to have a reliable and fun driving experience in this beautiful machine.

The Total Estimate: A Closer Look

I recently received an update on the total estimate for repairing my Ferrari 488. Unfortunately, parts are still coming in, but it's expected that everything will be sorted out quickly once the front and rear bumpers arrive. The main issue is that they require paint, which adds to the cost of repairs.

The Front and Rear Bumpers: A Necessary Evil

While the wheels don't need to be painted, the mirror does. I've been keeping an eye on the shipment schedule, and I'm confident that everything will come together soon. The front and rear bumpers are essential for the car's appearance, but they also add a significant amount of time to the repair process.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enall right everybody so here's an update on the crashed 488 as I showed you last time we have this little frame piece down there all the way down there that's on something called a supplement a supplement is a supplemental invoice upon a repair for damage that wasn't necessarily available until you pull the thing apart and that came on the supplement the other thing that we missed on the original estimate was as you see in here the door panel is missing it's over there but the door panel is super expensive and when I say super expensive it's like 10 grand and I called the dealer and I thought the airbag was like part of the door or something like that the airbag is separate it's only $1,000 and the door panel is 10 grand and they told me they're still waiting on when they ordered in January so that's not good that could be a legit problem because if all the other parts come in they've been ordered and I'm not gonna you right now over $100,000 in in parts for this car now what parts I'm labor but like it's a lot a lot more than I would expect and the the door panel is something that's making me nervous cuz we got a rush it we got to get it here getting this fixed and not having a door panel I can't rent it out and yes I can go after the insurance company for loss of use but I don't want to sit on this thing for three or four months waiting for a door panel so that's that's a big thing that I got to sort out so I did notice something's I've never seen the car naked before there's a there's something that all 488 owners have in common and let's just say it's pretty small let me show you this is me hitting my ass on that look at the size of that exhaust tell me that's not the smallest exhaust you've ever seen like a Ferrari exhaust is generally like Oh giant brick exhaust but with the turbo they were able to get away with something much smaller now it's hard could you could you even imagine saving weight on this I mean this is the this is a small exhaust pipe here I mean this is the the actual tip that you see coming off the header but pretty tiny as far as mufflers go and to think that it's has a fundamentally a noise problem yet it doesn't actually have like a legitimate muffler to remove I mean yeah you remove that you're not freeing up that much sound but I don't know like I know fab speed makes things lost for it there's other companies to make it exhaust for and it sounds a little bit better but I think that's always going to be the downfall of this car which is the fact that it doesn't have an exhaust note that that kills and you see a huge depreciation shot on the 48 you don't see that in the 458 so the 458 SAR holding long term I think a 488 just because it's newer is gonna be the equivalent of a 430 versus a 360 it'll have a slight bump in value just because it's newer with the same mileage but the 488 is not the one that people want people are defaulting to the 458 because they look good they sound good now granted these cars when they're not crashed this looks marginally better than the 458 I'm not gonna lie it does have a more aggressive look it's got a more a same thing with the 430 just a little bit of an updated look a little bit better than the previous one but the other one doesn't look bad I don't think of 360 looks bad I don't think a 458 looks bad and the fact that you get the driving experience without the turbos and you get that sound all that stuff the Ferraris have been known for over the years I think you've got the winner in the 458 I think that is probably one of the best last Ferraris that you're gonna want to own and and you're gonna see they're gonna come out with new cars are gonna come out with new v8 and turbos and electric stuff I assure you the 458 long-term play is going to be a very very solid car possibly the best one you can get long term if Ferrari doesn't say like you know we should probably go back to drivers cars because people are investing in them they're putting money into them they're holding on to those because it's the last na car that they made and part of a sports car experience isn't just speed and the NSX learned that it's not just about being faster it's about that experience and the 458 has that experience so there's your quick update on this car SAR as a short video I just wanted to give you an update with the total estimate and obviously parts are still coming in this car I was shooting for May 1st it's May 1st not together but we're just waiting on the front and rear bumpers and then the airbag everything else is going to sort of come together pretty quickly there it's all going to come in one shipment but the the main stuff that I have to get now are the front and rear bumpers because they require paint the wheels don't really require paint the mirror obviously has to come in but there you go thank you for watching I will keep you updated see you tomorrow tomorrow working on the doc so see you no motor in the doc and we can finally get to that which I've been excited to get to but now the weather is warming up Car Show season we're good see for those of you not familiar with my other company I started the company called adventure drives which combines driving and bucket list travel it's a lot of fun our next trip or off to Europe in July if you're interested prices can be done per
