**The Art of Flipping: A Beginner's Guide to Selling on eBay**
I started this whole thing with a single item that I sold for a profit, and people have been asking me how I did it. So, I thought I'd share my experience with you guys. It was a Clue board game set of 40 note sheets, which I sold for $8.19. eBay fees were 1.38 cents, and my shipping cost was $3.86. The profit margin was only 2.70 cents, but as I'll explain later, it's not about making huge profits; it's about the process.
One of the most common mistakes new sellers make is overestimating their ability to sell high-demand items at inflated prices. People will buy just about anything, especially if it's related to a popular franchise like Clue or board games in general. I listed this set of note sheets for $8.19 because I knew that people would be willing to pay more than that for the exact item they needed, but not enough to justify buying the entire game at full price.
Another strategy I use is to buy items from retail stores like the dollar store and resell them on eBay. The idea is to spend a minimal amount of money (usually around $1 or $2) on an item and then sell it for five or six times that amount, minus shipping costs. This might not be a huge profit margin, but it's better than nothing, and it's a great way to start making some money on eBay.
I recently found a lot of Xbox 360 games at the dollar store (well, technically, they were from Offer Up, which can be a bit scummy at times) for $2.12 each. I sold them for $8.25, and after factoring in shipping costs of $5, my profit margin was around 2.12 dollars per game. It's worth noting that video games are generally very cheap, but this particular lot was a great deal.
One fun fact about selling video games is that they're often not as valuable as you'd think. For example, I recently sold a copy of Forza Motorsport for $13.25 after eBay fees and shipping costs of 1.96 cents and 3.48 dollars, respectively. The game itself cost me only $2.12, so my profit margin was around 5.69 dollars per game.
Building inventory is also an important part of making money on eBay. I've got a bunch of other items listed that I'm not in a hurry to sell, and I'm just waiting for the right buyer to come along. It's all about patience and persistence.
**The Power of Flipping**
Flipping items from dollar stores or thrift stores onto eBay can be a great way to make some money, even if it's not always a huge profit margin. The idea is to find an item that's still in good condition (usually), buy it for a low price, and then sell it for a higher price on eBay.
Of course, there are risks involved, like buying something that turns out to be damaged or worthless. But if you're careful and do your research, flipping items can be a fun and profitable way to make money on eBay. Just remember, it's not always about making huge profits; it's about the process of finding, buying, and selling items at prices that work for both you and the buyer.
**The Thrifting Game**
After filming this video, I'm actually heading out to thrift stores to see what kind of deals I can find. It's amazing how much money you can make by digging through thrift stores and second-hand shops for hidden gems.
I'll be on the lookout for anything that might sell well on eBay, from collectible items to vintage clothing or even just weird stuff that people might actually want. Who knows what treasures I'll find? Maybe it'll be a rare collectible or a piece of memorabilia that's worth a fortune.
Whatever I find, I'll be sure to share it with you guys, so stay tuned for more updates from my eBay adventures!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat up everyone how you doing today my name is david franco and welcome to my main channel i say that because i'm at my gaming setup and i usually say welcome to my gaming channel this is not a gaming related video but i'm kind of short on time today so i figured why not use this setup and plus the audio sounds great up here the lighting's pretty decent because i got my video lighting going so guys welcome like this is kind of a big deal this is something i've been thinking about doing for a long time now but it's only going to happen with your supports this is episode one with possibly episode two and three coming in the near future with your supports but yeah this is episode one of what sold on ebay or what's selling on ebay i don't know i still don't have the final title down in my head yet but if this is something you want to continue to say please let me know right below in the comment section and click that like button i'm saying we need at least 100 likes on this video to tell me hey david we're liking this keep it up because it's no secret guys i am heavily into ebay lately i've been talking about it a lot of my vlogs so i figured it would be nice to give you some raw data of things i'm buying and things that are actually flipping you know things that are actually selling because i could say i'm buying this i'm buying that but if it doesn't sell then what's what's the point um so i'm fully transparent with this i want to tell you how much i spent on each item at least for the most part i don't have that data for every single item but i want to tell you how much i spent on shipping ebay fees all that stuff so let's jump into it this is officially episode one or i should say unofficially because i don't know what the future holds unofficially episode one of what sell it on ebay let's go okay so for today's video i'm a little crowded again i'm at my gaming setup i have my macbook pro right down here and i have my iphone i took 10 screenshots of items last night that sold in recent weeks and each item i picked for a very specific reason because i want to make it clear people buy the most random things really like you don't need to be selling clothing all the time you don't need to be selling brand new unopened video games people will buy used items obviously that's the whole point of ebay but i'm just living proof like people will buy the most random things so let's jump into it 10 items that actually sold on ebay number one is this apple ipod radio remote model number a 1187 and this is from 2006. this is actually a free hand-me-down item that my dad gave me so i don't have profit data exactly because it didn't cost me anything but let me see if it's on my macbook pro no it's not but i will tell you this i sold it for 15 plus 4.99 shipping i may have sold it for 12 or 13 i forget i mean it depends if somebody you know actually gave me a best offer but uh yeah guys that's just my point i got a free hand me down item something that doesn't really look like it's worth more than five dollars but i had a person buy it for 15 or so plus shipping so look around your closet look around your house grab cables grab adapters grab things you're not using list them on ebay and somebody will buy them i can guarantee you next up this one i do a full raw data for you guys this is a genuine oem panasonic video ac adapter model number pva17 this is basically a battery tester i mean i'm sorry battery charger that was tested with camcorder batteries i mean it worked it plugged in it seems like it was holding a charge so i listed it for 21.95 plus 775 shipping and let me go down to my spreadsheet here so i bought this for 2.49 right technically i bought it for five dollars but it was bundled with a camcorder so what i do is i take these bundles of items and i split them up and then i just do some basic math so in this case i believe i paid five dollars for everything and i parted out into two different listings and i paid 249 for the battery charger right i sold it for 29.70 shipping i took a purchase of 249 and turned it into just under 30 bucks that's really good okay so ebay fees of course you have to pay fee ebay fees cost me 5.43 my shipping cost was 805 but of course that was worked into the shipping cost that the buyer also paid by the way i rarely do free shipping i rarely rarely do free shipping and it works out fine for me you know and final profit was 13.73 off of a battery charger not bad if you ask me next one this is very interesting this one i do not have data on because this is before i started tracking everything this is a hot wheels batman classic tv series bat cycle new in the box guys new in the box there was a slight tear from where the plastic meets the plastic the cardboard or the paper whatever you want to call it um so it wasn't like in pristine condition on the outside but like i said in the beginning people do want things for the most random reasons and somebody actually bought this for 23 plus five dollar shipping again i don't have raw data for you unfortunately i'm sorry um but i do recall only paying like two or three dollars for this so not a bad flip this next one is very interesting brand new item from target now if you've never been the target first of all why not i mean unless you're not from the us um but target's amazing and as soon as you walk in the target they typically have like the bullseye spot or whatever they call it where a lot of items cost three dollars or five dollars or sometimes even one dollar so this is a five dollar target two-tier coffee bar cart kitchen decor bull's-eyes playground there you go new with tag that's what nwt means shout out to my mom she's all into crafting and everything so she told me these cards are hard to find so i picked up a few of them i sold a few of them now this one i hope i marked down correctly because i sold a few and i'm not sure which one is which but i did buy this for just five dollars let me find my data here yep paid five dollars final sale including shipping i made 27.95 ebay fees four dollars it cost me 7.95 to ship and of course final profit exactly eleven dollars not bad for a five dollar purchase not huge profit margins but that's not the point of this video you know i'm just showing you like everyday items that do flip for a profit and well that's the whole point of ebay like you could make five dollars here three dollars here twenty dollars there you know but it all adds up very quickly that's why you need to be active you know just list as many things as you can next item this i'm including for a reason because i had no idea about this brand name but it flipped pretty quickly this is the aurora baby pink little girl i just put a little girl on all caps because that's how someone else listed it uh teddy bear 10 inch plush stuffed animal pink bow from november 2016. this let me find it on my spreadsheet here i use google spreadsheets by the way if you're curious um i bought this for 1.99 it sold for 26.97 people love plushies you know people collect plushies um and they're definitely worth some good money so do not look past plushies they're worth some good money guys ebay fees four dollars and thirteen cents my shipping cost three dollars and eighty one cents guys that's why i'm including a plushie in today's video uh because they're not only cheap to pick up again what two dollars yeah two dollars but they're also incredibly easy and cheap to ship throw them in a polybag and you're good to go final profit check this out you guys keep in mind this bear cost me two dollars right seventeen dollars and four cents yeah seventeen dollars and four cents off of a two dollar bear not bad not bad at all this next one is my favorite flip for today this is the toshiba d dash for hdmi dvd recorder without the remote you know this is proof guys you don't always need the remote i mean of course obviously it's going to help with the sale but you don't need the remote because said buyer might buy the remote separately on ebay from a different seller or even with that say you don't really need a remote because you can always use the buttons on the unit itself anyway this is the dvd recorder that i bought for let me see this is my favorite flip guys for today 4.99 yes a dvd recorder by the way always look for the dvd recorders typically dvd players alone don't sell for a lot of money but with that said if you can find a dvd player and vhs player or recorder you know like those combo units they're called they're typically worth a lot of money but if it doesn't have vhs make sure it's a dvd recorder not only a player people love these dvd recorders they flip for good money and they flip pretty quickly shipping them might be a little bit of a pain so make sure you have some big boxes and plenty of you know packaging materials uh but anyway i bought this for four dollars and 99 cents final sale including shipping 62. and 27 cents insane ebay fees eight dollars 11 cents my shipping cost was 12.27 final profit off of this five dollar purchase 36 36. and 90 cents mind-blowing stuff absolutely incredible this one this sold in like a day or two this really shocked me so i found this in the toy section this is a huge seven pound lot of crafting creative beads um i got this bag let me see okay so this bag i found for 3.99 it sold for 37.92 shipped that's crazy absolutely crazy ebay fees 5.39 my shipping cost was 12.97 final profit off that four dollar bag of beads 15 and 57 cents guys you never know why somebody's searching for something i mean this huge bag of beads obviously is going to keep somebody very busy and me profitable so it's a win-win awesome love that find this is a really interesting find this one i'm including for a very specific reason i bought a game of clue right and i experimented i decided well what if i part out the pieces like what if i um sell all the pieces you know the weapons like the candlestick and whatever separately and the notepad and the game board separately well i did just that and this actually sold within like a week or two this is the clue 1998 game board replacement pieces parts i just i just called it that sets of 40 detective note sheets i sold it for four dollars plus 419 shipping and my cost once you divide all the parts 25 cents 25 cents guys again i parted it out so that was more profitable for me final sale 8.19 ebay fees 1.38 cents my shipping cost 3.86 profit 2.70 cents not huge profit but again people will buy the most random things and well you never know there might be some clue fanatics out there like people who love clue people who love board games or people who just play board games in general and they're like oh well i i need this one piece but i'm not going to spend 15 to 20 on the entire board game that's why i list things like this because people do want and need items like this set of 40 note sheets next up i don't have the raw data on but i'm including for another um very specific reason this is a lot of four led bulbs from the dollar store let me say that again the dollar store guys i spent at the time this is pretty pandemic one dollar on each bulb so it cost me about four dollars plus tax i sold them for 9.95 plus 4.97 shipping or maybe best offer i may have let them go for like eight dollars plus shipping i don't know again i don't have the data unfortunately but that's just my point go to the dollar store and flip items you're not gonna be getting huge profit but if you're looking for a good easy affordable way to sell brand new hard goods from retail stores go to the dollar tree or any dollar store for that matter spend a dollar or two on an item and flip it for like five or six i i don't know why people like this don't just go to the dollar tree themselves and buy them or maybe it's just a convenience thing or maybe somebody has an ebay gift card i don't know but they sold and i'm not gonna argue it next up is my final item for today it's not that exciting but i did find this as part of a huge lot of xbox 360 games i actually have a video on that i'll link that video right below i bought a huge lot of xbox 360 games used most of them used anyway from offer up offer up can be a very scammy kind of website so make sure you're buying from a good seller with a good feedback rating and thankfully my transaction was perfectly smooth i got a good deal i got a ton of games and after you factor in the math each game from me cost two dollars and twelve cents um and i sold this for 825 plus five dollar shipping let me find my data here uh forza motorsport for here we go disk encase by the way i do not have the manual disk in case cost me 212 final sale 13.25 ebay fees 1.96 cents shipping cost 3.48 shipping video games is very very cheap by the way fun fact i typically charge five dollars flat rate for shipping video games because it usually cost me three to four dollars so that way i still have a profit margin on shipping so maybe i'll make like a dollar back in my shipping but hey every dollar adds up final profit off that 2.12 game um that was a weird way to say it 5.69 so i doubled my money on a game that i got as part of a huge lot now of course grant said i still have to sell all those other games but i like building my inventory so i'm in i'm in no rush so guys there you go those are 10 items that are selling for me on ebay i can't express this enough it's not about making huge profit margins guys because that's not how you're going to get started on ebay the best way to get started look around your house and just sell things you're not using i mean i've been doing the same i've been i've been finding switch games that i'm selling for really really good uh money that i'd even know was worth a lot for instance skylanders imaginators on the switch i've i've had it in like new conditions since day one i looked it up it's worth between like 150 and 175 dollars that's crazy absolutely crazy and i'm looking very very forward to selling that shortly anyway guys thank you so much for watching i hope you enjoyed again if you want to see more of this type of video please click that like button i'm hoping for at least 100 likes i'm heavily into ebay i've learned a lot recently and i'm looking to share my knowledge with you guys and of course if you have any questions just comment right below in the comments and well i'll do my best to respond anyway with that said i'm off to get some food in my system i've had nothing to eat all day then i'm going thrifting baby i'm going thrifting thank you guys so much i hope you're having a great day and i'll talk to you later peace byewhat up everyone
