The Pocophone F1 Has A Problem...

**Device Issue: Poco F1's HD Content Problem**

I wanted to bring this issue to your attention since I've recently done a couple of videos on it, and there have been a lot of inquiries from you guys about it. It turns out that this unit is indeed affected by the problem. There's something called Widevine DRM L3, which is necessary for decoding full HD or even HDR content from sites like Netflix and Amazon. However, the Poco F1 comes with Widevine DRM L1, which means it can only decode in 540P resolution on these platforms.

**Widevine Support and Its Importance**

Widevine support and its level of quality are crucial when it comes to accessing HD content on devices like the Poco F1. Widevine is a digital rights management system used by many streaming services to protect their content from piracy and unauthorized access. The level of support varies across different devices, with some supporting up to L3, which allows for higher-quality decoding. Unfortunately, the Poco F1's Widevine support only goes up to L1, making it impossible to access HD or HDR content on these platforms.

**Testing the Problem**

To test this issue, I set up two devices side by side: a Galaxy S9 with an SD card and the Poco F1. I launched Netflix on both devices and observed the difference in quality. On the S9, the show was displayed in HD with HDR support for certain shows. However, on the Poco F1, no matter which show I picked, the content was locked to 540P resolution. The question is, can you notice the difference between 1080P and 540P? I've tried to evaluate it myself by watching a couple of episodes of different shows on both devices.

**YouTube's HD Support**

Interestingly, YouTube does not use the same Widevine DRM as Netflix and Amazon, which means that it supports full HD content. In fact, I recently checked out an unboxing video on YouTube, which was displayed in full resolution without any issues. This is a relief for casual viewers who may not need the highest level of quality or for those with limited data plans.

**Is 540P Enough?**

While watching a couple of episodes of different shows on both devices, I realized that 540P is indeed enough to watch Netflix content comfortably. The image quality is manageable, and it's surprising how much detail can be retained at this resolution. However, for super Netflix or Amazon video enthusiasts who want the best possible quality, this might be a concern.

**Conclusion**

While the Poco F1 has some limitations when it comes to HD content on platforms like Netflix and Amazon, it's not a deal-breaker for most users. The 540P resolution is more than sufficient for casual viewing, and with YouTube supporting full HD content, there are still options available for those who want higher quality video. I will continue to evaluate the Poco F1 in more detail and share my findings on this device, which has been a promising phone at its price point.
