iTwitter - iPhone App Review

**A Closer Look at iTwitter: A Promising but Imperfect Twitter Client**

As I embarked on reviewing iTwitter, my expectations were tempered by concerns about push notifications, which I had been told would be a key feature of this new Twitter client. Unfortunately, I was unable to get push notifications to work during my testing, despite trying several different accounts and even logging in for the first time. However, after overlooking this limitation, I was pleased to find that iTwitter offers a well-designed and functional interface that makes navigating your tweets a breeze.

**The Home Screen: A Conversation-Like Interface**

Upon launching iTwitter for the first time, I was presented with a home screen featuring several icons, including Home, Mentions, Direct Messages, Favorites, Nearby Tweets, Updates, Search, Followers, and Following. The layout is clean and intuitive, making it easy to navigate and find specific features quickly. For instance, when I tapped on a tweet from Brandon Minman, I was presented with a reply, retweet, or favorite option, which was a welcome feature. Additionally, the ability to access my phonebook and insert contact information into tweets is a thoughtful touch.

**Conversations: A Threaded Tweeting Experience**

One of the standout features of iTwitter is its conversation-like interface for viewing tweets. When scrolling through messages from TechnoBuffalo or John For Lakers, I noticed that threads were displayed in a neat grid format, making it easy to follow conversations and respond to individual messages. This feature is reminiscent of text message clients on iPhones, where threaded conversations are a common way to organize chats. The "at reply" feature also allows users to respond to specific tweets or mentions, adding a level of engagement to the platform.

**Mentions: A Section for At-Reply Tweets and Direct Messages**

The Mentions section in iTwitter is dedicated to at-reply tweets and direct messages. Upon tapping on this icon, I was presented with a grid-like layout featuring tweets from people I follow, as well as the option to reply or favorite them directly. This feature allows users to quickly access and engage with comments on their posts without having to navigate through individual tweet threads. Additionally, the Direct Messages section is well-organized and easy to use, making it simple to send and receive private messages.

**Search: A Feature that Works**

The Search feature in iTwitter is straightforward and effective. Upon tapping on this icon, I was presented with a list of tweets from users I follow, which quickly loaded after the initial screen. This makes it easy to find specific tweets or keywords, even if you're not logged in for the first time.

**Followers: A Section that Takes Time to Load**

The Followers section takes a moment to load, but once it does, it provides a comprehensive list of users I'm following on Twitter. This feature is essential for staying up-to-date with what others are saying about your tweets or posts. The ability to see the number of followers and messages from each user adds an extra layer of insight into their online activity.

**Nearby Tweets: A Feature that Might Be a Little Creepy**

One feature that might raise some eyebrows is Nearby Tweets, which uses GPS location data to show users who are sending tweets in close proximity. While this feature might be convenient for meeting up with friends or attending events, it could also be seen as invasive or creepy by some users.

**Updates: A Section for New Posts from Followers**

The Updates section showcases new posts from the people I follow on Twitter. This feature allows me to quickly scan through tweets and engage with my online community without having to scroll through individual threads.

**Followers and Following: Two Icons that Represent Your Online Presence**

The Followers and Following sections represent your online presence and provide an overview of who's interacting with you on Twitter. These icons are essential for understanding the ebb and flow of conversations on the platform.

**Settings and Push Notifications**

One final note is worth mentioning – to enable push notifications, I had to navigate to Settings > Notifications within the app. This feature is turned off by default, but users can easily toggle it on if they wish. While iTwitter has shown promise despite some initial misgivings, one would hope that future updates will address these limitations and provide a more seamless user experience.

**Conclusion**

Despite its limitations, iTwitter offers a solid Twitter management platform with a clean interface and thoughtful design features. With push notifications still being an elusive feature, users may need to overlook this limitation for now. However, the app's well-designed layout and organized features make it worth considering as an alternative to traditional Twitter clients. If you're willing to forgive its shortcomings, iTwitter is certainly a contender in the world of Twitter management apps.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up everyone John rer here from technobuffalo.com and I want to give you a demonstration of it Twitter a new Twitter client for the iPhone this is going to run you $3.99 in the app store which is a little bit of a steep price to pay considering the free Alternatives but this is the first application or the first Twitter application that promises push notifications although that does come with a little bit of a caveat the person sending you the at reply or the direct message has to be logged in and sending uh the message to you via it Twitter not so bad for those you that don't know what push notifications are essentially it's a message that gets well pushed to your phone that'll pop up on your screen regardless of whether or not you have the application open or not let's go ahead and get started and launch it up now the first thing I want to say is the reason that I bought this and downloaded it was to show you push notifications and unfortunately I could not get them to work I had people log in using it Twitter and send me tweets and it would would not function might be because the application is new and their servers are overloaded or maybe that just not functioning properly right now but just know that if you're going to buy the application that it might be a little bit squirely if it works at all you guys might know that I'm not the biggest fan of having applications that don't function as advertised like you saw in my camera zoom video but I willing to make a massive exception for it Twitter because it's so good and this is probably going to be my def facto Twitter client from now on I'm wanting to overlook what I thought would be the biggest selling point of push notifications let's go ahead and get started and let me show you what this looks like so when you log in for the first time you sort of have a home screen of icons you've got home mentions direct messages favorites nearby tweets updates search following and followers so if you log into home you get sort of a conversation looking message here it should be relative relatively familiar and nothing that revolutionary but say say you want to look at a tweet so let's say here's one from Brandon minman if you just tap it you get a reply a retweet or the option to favorite it which is really nice I like having a retweet button so if I hit that for example it automatically populates it and I've got the ability to insert a picture which is always a welcome addition to a Twitter application I can even go through and access my phone book if I'd like if I have someone's Twitter name saved in there and go ahead and insert it certainly tells you how many characters you have left as well so we'll go ahead and cancel this and if you keep scrolling through here you can see conversations which is very neat so here's a message from techno Buffalo or you sent here comes a buffalo and I sent a reply and you can see that it sort of shows up in one Clump which is quite nice you can see your almost like threaded tweets which you find on the text message client on the iPhone and a myriad of others so it is really cool to see so the interest of brevity I'm going to move on to the next feature and the next menu item here are mentions so these are essentially just your at replies and you can go through and see what they are and he have the same reply button and you can see that it says at reply here this is one sent from to John for Lakers if I hit that I get my information the number of followers and it's just a kind of a nice grid to see what that person particularly has next direct messages quite obviously shows your direct messages favorite you have the option to favorite tweets if you want to come back to them or someone said something particularly funny gave you a good blonde joke whatever it might be you can come back and take a look at it nearby tweets will take advantage of your GPS and tell you who's near you sending Tweets which I find a little bit creepy but maybe you guys might like updates which I'll show you and these are all the messages that I've sent out from my John for Lakers account search pretty obvious what search search does let you just do a search here's a list of the people that I'm following now it takes a second to load up since this is being open for the first time I hadn't opened this prior but it will queue up much faster and the people that are followers and that may take a little bit of a while to load anyway guys just wanted to give you a real short quick overview of I Twitter I'm really enjoying it despite again the fact that push notifications were not functioning if you're willing to overlook that I think certainly worth a 3.99 price point for just great Twitter management and I assume at some point push notifications will come through although it does have yet to be seen if getting push notifications will be really annoying on the iPhone or not and I'll show you real quickly that push notifications are turned on in case you were wondering so go to settings notifications and you can see there is I Twitter and everything is turned on hope you enjoyed for
