Best iPhone Apps of 2011

The Top iPhone Apps of 2011: A Personal Review by Austin

Hey guys, this is Austin and today I'm excited to share with you my top iPhone apps of 2011. This year has been great for games on all platforms, but especially for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. So, let's dive into some of my favorite apps that I've played extensively.

Coming in at number five is Minecraft Pocket Edition. Minecraft is one of my favorite PC games, and I'm thrilled to see the mobile version being pretty decent. If you're new here, welcome! The high-res version includes several key features from the full PC game, such as crafting and collecting blocks. However, this feature is still pending an update for now.

In creative mode, with a few dozen blocks to choose from, it's a fun little game to play on-the-go. Moving on to number four is Temple Run, which I've been playing extensively because it's free! This simple yet very fun game has you running through an endless temple to get a high score. The controls are dead simple: just touch your device to collect coins and power-ups, and swipe up and down on the screen to jump or slide for free. There's no reason not to give it a try.

Coming in at number three is Grand Theft Auto 3, which I'm a huge fan of open-world sandbox games. This game is one of the rare iPhone games that I can actually sit down and play for over an hour. It's a direct port of the PS2 release from ten years ago, and it looks fantastic on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. My only complaint with the game is the controls, which while not awful, do detract from the gameplay at times.

As a GTA game, it's meant for a mature audience, but if that includes you, then this is an excellent mobile game. Moving on to number two is Tiny Wings, which I'd describe as a casual game in its best sense of the word. You control a bird that gathers momentum and launches off hills to make it as far as possible before the sun sets. I genuinely can't say enough about how great this game is, from the very chill music to the wonderful art style and simple yet fun gameplay.

As one of my favorite go-to games when I want to burn a few minutes, I highly recommend downloading Tiny Wings if you haven't already done so. Finally, coming in at number one is Jetpack Joyride, which I've easily played more than twice as much as any other game this year. You control Barry, who uses a stolen jetpack to make it as far as possible while avoiding various obstacles and missiles. What's great about this game is that there's an option to buy coins with real money, but you can also get them for just one dollar in the App Store.

There's no excuse not to try Jetpack Joyride right now. And that's my top iPhone apps of 2011. Of course, you guys might not agree with everyone on my list, but overall, I think these five games are by far what I've played the most this year. Thanks for watching, and if you enjoyed this video, be sure to leave it a thumbs up!
