Welcome to BBQ Pit Boys: Cooking Up Bacon Potato Sticks and Wheels
As we begin our cooking journey today, I've got a apple corer in hand, and we're going to make some bacon potato sticks and wheels. Now, if you've never done this before, don't worry, it's real easy. We'll be using russet potatoes, which are elongated and work perfectly for these tasty treats.
To start, take an apple core and a potato, and use your corer to remove the center of the potato. It's as simple as that! You can do this with one or multiple potatoes, depending on how many bacon potato sticks you want to make. Sometimes they might break off a little bit, but that's okay, because we're making hors d'oeuvres here, and these are perfect for the holidays or your Sunday meal.
Now, let's move on to the next step: cutting the bacon into strips. You can leave them whole if you prefer, or cut them in half depending on how much bacon you want on each stick and wheel. I'm using regular cuts of bacon today, but feel free to experiment with different types. Take a slice of bacon and wrap it around your potato stick, making sure to secure it nicely.
Next, we're going to make some wheels instead of potato bombs. To do this, take a slice of bacon about the same thickness as your potato sticks. This will allow both the sticks and wheels to cook approximately the same time. If you want to get creative, you can also use these recipe ideas in a fryer.
Now that we've wrapped our potatoes with bacon, it's time to place them on the grill. We're using indirect cooking, zone cooking, which means we don't want the bacon to cook too quickly, or it will pull away from the potatoes. Get them in there, and let the magic happen! Pile them in there, and cover them up with a lid.
After about 30-40 minutes, our bacon potato sticks and wheels are done. To finish them off, we'll be hitting them with some sauce. You can use your favorite sauce, whether it's heat or sweet, just like you like. Slather it on, and let the flavors meld together. If you want to get fancy, add some sour cream on top.
Take a look at our finished product! Oh, man, they're looking good tonight! You must try one of these bacon potato sticks and wheels – they're a game-changer. And if you're feeling extra hungry, don't worry; we do eat in front of the camera like that, it's called pitmaster privilege!
