The Most Expensive Keyboard I've Ever Unboxed...

The World of Keyboards: A Diverse and Surprising Realm

As soon as you get your hands on this wonderful portable keyboard, you'll feel an urge to express yourself. This can be mighty important not only in school but also in later life. I've made videos on many unusual, crazy keyboards, computer keyboards, Bluetooth keyboards, wireless keyboards, wired keyboards, touch keyboards, and laser keyboards. If there's a keyboard out there, I'm probably gonna look at it. It's surprising how diverse the world of keyboards is, indicating that people have a very particular taste when it comes to their choice in keyboard.

Today, I'm going to show you possibly the craziest keyboard that I've ever featured. It might also be the most expensive, and I just can't remember its price – it's $300! This thing is expensive, but I have to tell you that it's called the Quirky Writer S, a typewriter-inspired mechanical keyboard. This keyboard embraces a different mindset and time period – the click and clack of war, The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, Brave New World, and Lord of the Flies are all there.

The company behind this keyboard is called quirky toys, and it's an attention-grabbing thing to put in your den with a glass of cognac next to it. You'll notice fine wood grain and the smell of leather as you take a closer look at this keyboard. It does look cool, and I feel like I'm about to crack the code. This keyboard is heavy, and it's made of metal – oh boy! Look whoa; it's a real typewriter!

The switches on this keyboard are Cherry MX blue, which "bams" when you press them. There's a tray if you want to use an iPad or phone, which apparently is programmable but has a throwback look and clear stops in front that make indenting easier – two typewriter days as well! The knobs on the side have LEDs along the top, another button for using it in a wired fashion, a traditional-style power switch on this side, and braided-style USB cable with micro-USB connector to ensure more security.

I got this keyboard connected to my MacBook Pro over here, and I wanted to test the volume knob. Well, that's exactly what it does! It's cool, but what is this side supposed to do? Maybe nothing – we'll find out! Let's see if this "enter" function works; indeed it does! The keyboard will work on PCs, Macs, Android, and iOS devices.

The person who designed this keyboard seems to have done their research. They're trying to market the idea of using this with iPads without having to reach up – annoying because you're busy doing something else. As I'm sitting here yelling at a video about 18th-century cooking, I realize that these guys didn't skimp on functionality. They've got Cherry MX blue switches, which are made out of metal, can pair to three separate Bluetooth devices, and can be used in a wired fashion if you choose so.
