**Camera Comparison: Samsung Galaxy S7 vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5**
In this detailed comparison, we delve into the camera capabilities of two popular smartphones: the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. Both devices feature a rear 12-megapixel camera with phase detection dual pixel autofocus, offering similar sensor sizes (1.4 micrometers) and advanced focusing technology. This article explores their performance in various lighting conditions and video recording capabilities.
### Rear Camera Performance
Both phones boast impressive rear cameras, equipped with the same sensor size and autofocus technology. In daylight conditions, both devices deliver excellent results, particularly when zoomed in to 200%. The Samsung Galaxy S7, however, slightly edges out the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 in low-light environments due to its larger aperture (F/1.7) compared to the Note 5's F/1.9.
### Video Quality
Video recording is another area of comparison, focusing on both 1080p and 4K resolutions. The Samsung Galaxy S7 natively supports 4K video, whereas the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 requires a third-party app like Open Camera for this feature. When using Open Camera with electronic image stabilization (EIS), the Note 5 performs commendably, though it occasionally drops frames. Despite this, the Note 5's EIS delivers smooth and steady footage.
The Samsung Galaxy S7, benefiting from both optical and electronic image stabilization, offers superior video stability and higher audio quality due to a higher bitrate. This makes the Galaxy S7 particularly advantageous for capturing high-quality videos in challenging lighting conditions.
### Front-Facing Cameras
Both phones feature front-facing cameras: 5 megapixels on the Samsung and 13 megapixels on the Xiaomi. While the Xiaomi's higher megapixel count might suggest better performance, it often overexposes in bright sunlight, leading to washed-out images. In low-light conditions, the Note 5 struggles with noise and grain, whereas the Galaxy S7 captures more detail and maintains better brightness levels.
### Audio Quality
Another significant difference lies in audio quality. The Samsung Galaxy S7 boasts a higher audio bitrate, resulting in superior sound during video recordings. This makes it preferable for users prioritizing audio clarity in their videos.
### Conclusion
While both phones offer robust camera performance, the Samsung Galaxy S7 emerges as the clear winner, particularly in low-light conditions and video recording. Its combination of optical and electronic image stabilization, higher audio bitrate, and overall reliability make it a standout choice. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, though commendable for its price point and improvements over previous models, falls short due to front camera overexposure and reliance on third-party apps for advanced features.
For those seeking a budget-friendly option with impressive potential, the Redmi Note 5 is still a solid choice. However, if high-end performance is your priority, the Samsung Galaxy S7 remains the superior option despite its age.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enOkay so camera comparison time herebetween the Samsung Galaxy s7 with itsrear 12 megapixel camera and the xiaomiredmi note 5 with another 12 megapixelcamera now both of these phones havephase detection dual pixel facedetection autofocus which works reallyquick very similar sensors because theyhave the same pixel size of 1.4micrometers so in this review here i'mgoing to compare the rear camerasside-by-side I was crop in to 200% cropalso compare the camera quality sotaking videos that will be 1080p videoand 4k video now natively the camera appon the Xiaomi does not support 4k videoyet so I had to use open camera for thatwith electronic image stabilizationenabled and then of course thefront-facing cameras as well I'llcompare them now let's look at video onthe front-facing cameras here so we gota 5 megapixel sensor on the Samsung 13on the Xiaomi and I've noticed that theXiaomi tends to overexpose a lot withvideo in this bright sunlight of courseat the moment and I've set the Samsungto 1080p so it's fair even though it cando 1440p video on the front-facingcamera here you see both of them I meanthe quality is decent it's just thatoverexposingthat tends to happen quite a bit on theshow me so they have a little bitoptimization to do I feel and you cansee here even when I'm in the shade nowthat the Samsung is capturing this alittle bit better I feel so this timearound we're indoors low-light 1080pfront-facing cameras so which one do youthink is doing the better job here wellI can clearly see that it tends to be alot more grain and noise on the writtennote 5 here so this is now in 1080pvideo so both of these cameras have thesame dual pixel autofocus and I do havestabilization enabled on both of them soit's electronic image stabilization onthe redmi note 5 and then optical andelectronic on the samsung take a look atthe focus hereyou'll see that the chamois tends toreally over saturate these flowers thefocus is working on both of them aboutthe same which is really good becausethey both got of course that quick focusyou see my hand here so very fast onboth of them there walk along again andyou can see the stabilization and I findthat the Samsung is also capturing theseshadows a lot better see how muchbrighter that is so in order to shoot in4k on the show-me I've used open cameraso that's a third-party camera appbecause the stock app does not let youshoot in 4k for some reason at least notyet I think they have to add that andhopefully they will so I do have theelectronic image stabilization enableswith open camera and you can see it'sdoing a really good job of taking shapesout of the footage making it very smoothand steady which is great and the focusshould be just as good as the Samsungbecause they're using very similartechnology in fact it's the same techthat they're using now you will hearthat these sounds the audio I feel isdifferently a lot better on the Samsungbecause it has that higher bitrateI'm just going to walk towards councilbuilding right here and you can see justhow stable that electronic imagestabilization is versus the opticalimage stabilizationsorry overall I feel the Xiaomi is doingquite good here in the 4k testconsidering that this is about a 229 or220 US mobile phone versus a 2 year oldflagshipit's in our 4k video indoors low-light Ican see a lot of noise on the RHIB menote 5 here so the clear winner to me inthis kind of situation is clearly theSamsung Galaxy s7okay guys so what do I think about theend result there I think the Xiaomi didreally well the redmi note 5 they'reconsidering that it's not a flagshipphone this is a budget mobile phone butbecause of the dual pixel phasedetection autofocus on there that it'sjust as fast as my samsung galaxy s7 asyou saw there now the video quality Iwould say that in 1080p they're they'relooking similar but I give the winnerwould definitely be the Samsung Galaxys7 there because it has a higher bitratethe audio quality as well as one bigfactor there that it just sounds a lotbetter on the Samsung because there is abig difference in the audio bitrate it'salmost double on the Samsung that theyuse now 4k video with the electronicimage stabilization enabled on thexiaomi it did drop a few frames but itwas very smooth and steady and not badat all considering that it doesn't haveany optical image stabilization therebut the winner is i feel again thesamsung now in terms of photo qualitydaylight it's very close until you zoomin with a hundred 200s in crop and eventhen it's still quite close isn't it soreally good results here from the showme that really does impress me againconsidering the price of it so low lightlow light the Samsung's going to win itdid win there because it has the opticalimage stabilization it can hold theshadow rate a lot longer and it alsolets in more light whether it's if 1.7aperture instead of the F 1.9 that youhave on the Xiaomi so it's just slightlywider and that's why the results thereare a little bit bitter but I feel theshow-me does okay when you have a lookat them side by side some of thosephotos that you thinking hey that'sactually not too bad at all consideringso really impressive with the focus onboth of them and finally shell me hasfixed the focus hunting issues that haveplayed literally all of their phonesmid-range high range top of the endtop-of-the-line ones from them and eventheir budget phones have all had thatproblemeven the Xiaomi me mix the mimics to hadthose problems and finally it's fixedwith that dual pixel face stationautofocus which is great to see now thefront-facing cameras I feel they show meover expose my face didn't it if youhave a look at some of the shots theremy face is just too white it tends tooverexpose quite a bit the photos arefar too bright and I did disable thatbeautifying feature turned it offthat can sometimes brighten up your faceas well don't know why it does that it'spart of how it works and I feel you andthe other Samsung one so overall it diddo really well the budget phone againstthe flagship but it still won't takethat crown because it still has a reallygood camera I feel the sense on galaxys7 even though it's 2 years old nowthanks a lot for watching thiscomparison here now if you'd love to winone of these the not the Samsung Galaxys7 but the redmi note 5 then chickacheck out the link down there in thedescription of this video you can go onthe draw to win one of them and that'llbe drawn in approximately two weeks timenow and thank you so much for watchingthis comparison here I hope you liked itif you did please give a thumbs up thereand also think about subscribing and Ihope to see you back with my full reviewof Charlie's redmi note 5 bye for now\n"
