A Bookish Treasure Hunter's Spring TBR: Exploring Fantasy and Romance

As the seasons change, our reading tastes often shift to match the mood and atmosphere of the time. For this bookish treasure hunter, spring is a season of new beginnings and second chances, making it the perfect time to dive into a variety of exciting stories. In this article, we'll explore some of the books that have caught my eye and are now sitting at the top of my spring TBR.

One of the books that has been on my radar for a while is Empress of All Seasons by Amie Jean. This fantasy story takes place in a palace of illusions where a competition every year determines the next empress of Honoku. The rules are simple: survive the palace's enchanted seasonal rooms, conquer winter, spring, summer, and fall, and marry the prince. I'm intrigued by this unique concept, especially with regards to the seasons - there's something about spring that makes me think of renewal and new beginnings. The cover art also seems fitting for the season, making it a great choice for my spring TBR.

Another book that has piqued my interest is Weather Girl by Sarah Jio. With its April showers-inspired cover, this story feels like a perfect fit for the spring season. It's about a TV meteorologist who schemes with her sports reporter colleague to reunite their divorced bosses with unforecasted results. The title itself evokes feelings of unpredictability and excitement, making me eager to dive into this romance.

As a fan of retellings, I'm also excited to explore some beauty and the beast-inspired stories. Sandhya Naidu's series of books that reimagine classic fairy tales is one that I've been wanting to get to for a while now. From Of Curses and Kisses, which retells Beauty and the Beast in a contemporary setting, to Of Princes and Promises, which reimagines The Frog Prince, these stories offer fresh takes on timeless classics.

In addition to these fantasy and romance novels, I'm also looking forward to reading With Love from London by Sarah Geo. This story seems like the perfect fit for the spring season, with themes of second chances, new beginnings, and self-discovery. The idea of inheriting a bookshop in London from her estranged mother is particularly appealing, as it offers a chance for the protagonist to explore her family's past and discover more about herself.

As I've been thinking about my TBR, I couldn't help but wonder if there were any books that seemed to tap into the spirit of spring. One book that immediately came to mind was All the Rage by Sabaa Tahir. This story explores the different generations of a family, spanning time and distance, and delves into themes of identity, culture, and community. I've heard that this book is going to be emotionally charged, which makes it sound like the perfect fit for spring - a season when we're all about renewal and new beginnings.

Finally, I'm excited to dive into The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith, as she has written several YA romances that have been a source of comfort and inspiration for me in the past. This adult romance story follows an indie musician who reconnects with her estranged father on a week-long cruise. With its mix of music, family drama, and romance, I'm expecting this book to be emotionally charged - just what I need during the spring season when we're all about feeling hopeful and optimistic.

These books represent just a few of the exciting stories that are waiting for me in my spring TBR. Whether it's fantasy, romance, or something entirely different, I'm eager to dive into these novels and see where they take me.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eneveryone it's haley and today i wanted to talk about the books that i would like to read this spring i did not angle the camera well i feel like it's kind of crooked whatever uh we are not prepared for today's video i'm just going to be honestly going off the cuff and talking about the books that i'm hoping to read for the next coming months and this next season so in spring i feel like it's the hardest season for me to narrow down like exactly what i like to read although i've kind of been getting away from what my usual moods are for the season like usually in winter i really like reading a lot of historical fiction kind of higher fantasies and i guess i did kind of do that but for the most part i think i was just kind of like going for whatever is easiest so the one that really sticks i think is wanting to read like mysteries and stuff in fall and then also wanting to read contemporaries in summer but that kind of bleeds into spring as well so in spring i kind of gravitate towards the more emotional contemporaries i've noticed the more like intense ones and then also retellings but i kind of i'm gonna have a little bit of everything today because that's just kind of the mood that's what we're going with lately so let's just get into it so first of all a retelling that i definitely would like to get to in the coming months is the looking glass wars by frank bedour i've had this book for so long and so many people have recommended it to me for so long and i feel like this is like the one alice in wonderland retelling that i haven't read yet that i want to read before i do a video recommending alice in wonderland retellings because i feel like i've read most of them or at least the ones that interest me and this one definitely does interest me i just for some reason haven't read it yet so it does seem like super intriguing i'm not sure exactly i think it's like kind of a steampunk reimagining of alice in wonderland but like i just love everything alice so i feel like this is one that i should go with i'm intrigued by steampunk it seems like it could be really cool so i'm going to try and prioritize this one in the coming months next is malice by heather walter so this is a sleeping beauty retelling and it is a sapphic sleeping beauty retelling and i got this one last year and i have wanted to read it ever since i've heard some really really amazing things about it so it does seem like it's right up my alley and like it's a retelling that i should try and prioritize next is a chorus rises by bethany c morrow so this one isn't it's not a retelling but for some reason i feel like this series is one that screams spring to me i couldn't really tell you why it is a fantastical kind of it kind of reminds me of magical realism a little bit because it's like the world as you know it but then there's gargoyles and there's mermaids and there's different creatures but it doesn't read like an urban fantasy if that makes sense it reads more so like a contemporary just with these different creatures thrown into it so this is the sequel to a song below water and i did actually start reading it last year but didn't get the chance to finish it so i want to finish it this year for sure this is following the youtuber that the main characters in the previous novel are really obsessed with and she ends up coming out as a siren and that is like very scandalous and everything so you're following her and her story and i'm just so intrigued by that this cover is stunning i can't wait to read this one speaking of more emotional reads next we have the heart principle by helen hwang so this is the i'm not sure if it's the final book actually because i haven't seen anything else coming out by her and i feel like she usually was coming out with one per year but anyways it is the third book in the kiss quotient series which is a series of companion novels and it's just romances and this one is quan's love story but it's him and anna's son she's a violinist and one of her videos ends up going viral and she finds sudden success so from my understanding though this is like a really emotional story some people don't think it should be like categorized in romance it's a little bit more than that and i feel like from the cover too it seems like you're going to get a romance but i've been warned by many many people that it is it could be a triggering story as well so definitely something to be wary of if you were going to read it but that's kind of the thing that i go for this time of year is more emotional things i guess something about it like fits the rebirth of spring i really don't know why but it's just kind of what i go for so i'm feeling like this is the perfect time to read this one i've been wanting to read it for a while now so why not now i think it's also time for me to read the lucky list by rachel lippincott so this is actually by the author of five feet apart and this is one that i have really wanted to read for a while now as well it's about a girl who her mother has recently passed away from cancer and she finds this list like this bucket list from when her mother was in high school and she decides that she's going to do this bucket list so it has on it get a tattoo get over my fear of heights go on a picnic try a new food get out of huckabee sleep under the stars go on the huckabee lake trip skinny dip in huckabee pool after hours i feel like this book might be set in somewhere called huckabee buy a book in another language steal an apple from the first tree at snyder's orchard find a four-leaf clover and kiss jc so i think that this seems like it's going to be fun but also obviously really emotional like the main character is dealing with a lot of grief and like completing this bucket list that her mother completed when she was in her senior year of high school and she's going through that knowing that she's lost her mother i think there's going to be a lot of levels to the story but i feel like it's something that i will really like next is turning by joy l smith this is about a character who used to be an aspiring ballerina but then this accident leaves her without the use of her leg so she has to learn to move on from that and learn to live her life when she thought that like everything she loved she has she feels like she's lost because she's lost the use of her legs and she was a ballerina and obviously like dance and being a ballerina as she had wanted it to be isn't really a possibility for her anymore so she has to kind of like rebuild everything so this obviously is going to be a really difficult story and definitely a very sad one but i feel like it could also have a very inspirational message and i haven't really read anything like this before so i'm very excited for it i don't really know why this feels like a spring read to me but when you get the chance by emma lord i've been dying to read i guess because it is kind of a retelling it is a gender bent mamma mia which i have questions about how gender bent mamma mia would work like i can see kind of but she doesn't know who her mother is she knows who her father is and then she ends up finding this live journal of her dad's describing the summer that she was conceived so she ends up you know you know the whole drill with mamma mia and if you don't i'm really sorry because mamma mia is absolutely incredible like the greatest i'm really looking forward to this book i hope that it captures like the fun and the spirit of mamma mia i think it's gonna be a lot of fun but we shall see i also have the bone spindle by leslie vader so this is an indiana jones meat sleeping beauty sort of deal i believe but it's also saffic which is really awesome so it's got a little bit of everything honestly it follows three characters so we have a bookish treasure hunter with a knack for runes and riddles who definitely doesn't believe in true love a tough as dirt warrior who likes cracking skulls pretty girls and doing things her own way and of course briar rose a prince under a sleeping curse so it's genderbent we have a prince instead of like sleeping beauty the princess usually but under a sleeping curse who's been waiting a hundred years for the kiss that will wake him very intrigued by this one this next book there's definitely like there's no connection to spring for this one it's just kind of one that i want to read soon which i kind of want to do a video about books that i want to read soon for absolutely no reason but like they've just been catching my eye and i'm excited but i just did an april tbr and now i'm doing a spring tbr so i feel like maybe i shouldn't let me know if you would still like to see that i'll save this book for that then and i'll talk about it later now you're going to be wondering so now you'll want to see that video but anyways the other book i want to talk about i did mention in my april tbr empress of all seasons by amico jean this is by the author of tokyo ever after and it's a fantasy story and it is like this palace of illusions nothing is what it seems there's a competition every year for the next empress of honoku so the rules are simple survive the palace's enchanted seasonal rooms conquer winter spring summer and fall marry the prince and yeah that's the deal super intriguing seasons like i don't know why you know spring just makes me think of all the seasons something about the cover also makes me think of spring i also had mentioned in that same video weather girl this cover just like doesn't that make you think like april showers so it feels like it's perfect for spring but it follows a meteorologist so a tv sandhya nun so of curses and kisses is a beauty and the beast retelling and then i also have of princes and promises which is a prince in the frog princess in the frog retelling rather and is there another one i think those are the only two but those are definitely retellings that i would like to get to they're like contemporary spins on it so that seems super interesting so i also would like to read with love from london by sarah geo i feel like spring is about like second chances new beginnings all of that and this story seems to really embody that it's about a girl who ends up she's actually a librarian and she ends up inheriting a bookshop in london from her estranged mother so along the way it's like this journey of self-discovery for her but also getting to know more of her story that focuses on the different generations of a family two generations specifically and it's like spanning time and everything so you're following the descendants and then the original people who are in pakistan and then they end up immigrating to the united states and you're following their descendants in present day so i think this is definitely going to be very very emotional from what i've heard uh and it just seems like it's going to be a very once again well-rounded story which i guess is kind of what i'm looking for lately i feel like now also seems like a good time to read the unsinkable greta james by jennifer e smith jennifer e smith has written quite a few y.a romances that i have really liked personally and they've been very great to like get me out of slump so this being her first adult romance i feel like it'll probably do the same thing this is about an indie musician and she's on this week-long cruise where she ends up reconnecting with her estranged father so once again i'm expecting emotions from it okay so those are all the books that i wanted to talk about today i know this was kind of like short and sweet compared to the other booklets videos that i think i've done recently but i don't want them all to be ages long so i hope that you guys still enjoyed it please let me know if you would still like to see that video about just random books that i would like to read soon because i can definitely do that for you guys and i hope you enjoyed today's video thank you so much for watching and i will see you in another new one soon byeeveryone it's
