Rebuilding a Wrecked JZX100 Chaser Pt. 5

The Exhaust Hangers are Complete

We've finally finished up the exhaust hangers and it looks pretty cool. The design isn't ideal for a missile, where it will be scraping against walls, but it suits the bumper well. Going around it, sounds super healthy. However, we're still missing a blow off valve, which we need to add as soon as possible. The car was sputtering a bit when we tested it out, and we're not sure why it's always boosting. We'll have to check for any vacuum leaks or couplers that might be causing the problem.

The Motivating Factor Behind Staying Late

We stayed late at the shop today because we didn't want to leave before taking this test drive car for a spin. Since we don't have headlights, we can't go far, and we also lack a plate on the car. However, as mechanic shops often do, we're okay with taking it out for a test drive. We tried to get the cable sorted out, but it was being stubborn.

New Seats and Floor Mats

We've got some new seats that look really clean, and we've also put down some Silvia floor mats that fit the car well. They might not be the best shot of the car, but they do look cool. We tried to do a quick ghetto alignment to it, and it sounds pretty good for how quiet it is.

The Test Drive

We took the car out for a spin, and it should hold up about two beers without leaking. The alignment was a bit off, but we managed to get it sorted out. We're not sure what caused the problem, but it might be due to the steel wheel or some other issue with the turbo setup.

The Turbo Setup

We talked about putting an aftermarket turbo on the car, and it sounds like it's supposed to work well. However, there are some issues with the way it's designed. We're not sure what's going wrong, but we might need to get a longer, smoother exhaust pipe to fix the problem.

The Chaser and Upcoming Projects

We've got a lot of projects lined up for the upcoming open house event, including finishing up the 370z, which needs to be tuned tomorrow. We're also expecting to get the wheels and body panels sorted out soon, and we'll probably slam the Super A a bit more. It's going to be a busy few days, but we're excited to get everything done.

Personal Update

I've been feeling pretty unwell lately, with a sore throat that's making it hard to talk or eat. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I've had a lot of energy lately, which is weird considering how bad I'm feeling. I don't know if there's a real explanation for this, but we'll just have to wait and see.

literally lasted the drive over to the shop I was sitting on the lift and I just felt like taking the part so on these cars it's so easy to do the springs literally all you have to do is undo the sway bar end link and then the one not for the top of the strut you can actually pull it out and then just drop the spring without even having undo any of the suspension bolts kind of a getaway to do it but it works I'm gonna give away super I was pretty happy how the aftermarket Springs Road with the combination of the factory like electronic adjustable dampening so this one I did want to go a little bit lower so I picked up a set of the HKS hyper max lowering springs from Titan a lot of places were sold out of these with Titan usually has some inventory so I'm curious to compare these to the H&R ones which we're a considerable drop but I want to go a little bit lower my personal car install on the hki spring slightly different in the sense that we actually have to knock off the spring perch on the bottom and then we'll put the HKS sleeve over it and then has these little screws that screw it in so this guy will just slide on twist it most of the way on and maybe give it a couple taps just for good measure the way the kits designed as well if you're gonna lower it you just basically take the factory bump stop and just cut this little end piece off and then this will slide in and it uses the factory dust boot I just left them not their factory height we'll see how that ends up being if you're ever finding yourself in a stuck position because you did Springs to get away like me this is what I do you can't really spin that with an impact or anything because it just spins everything so I took a socket with a set of vise grips and then you can turn the Allen to the left and then we'll tighten it then what's the start to get snug then you can hit it with an impact to get at the rest so I've been working on the back Springs novel help it out what are you doing novel so the worst thing about owning a BMW is not having studs those stupid lug bolts so I got one of the kits to change it to studs and you know what you're doing are you doing that right I figured no you sure those are backwards dog so the disadvantage of like having a heavy drop with Springs is that you might end up riding in the bump stops if you're using factory struts so it is kind of cool that this kit comes with different setup so on the front we cut the bump stops put in the rear instead of using the factory dust boot and bump stop it comes with a different boot and a different bump stop that is inside here that's a little bit shorter and then this will just kind of press in like this no we'll put it all back together it's got these little silent tubes that you put on the springs that are supposed to help dampen some of the noise from the springs one other cool thing I'm doing on this one I got a little super decals there's a front brakes look so empty like they're missing a Brembo logo or something so we've got a super logo to put on it so much better now thanks to the media fitment those tires everything excited to see what its gonna look like just ready to put on the ground I just left HGS springs in the factory length that they come in drop her down am I gonna have to adjust it a million times or is it gonna be good right off the bat come on it'd be really nice let's check it out looks like we're a little bit high in the rear I don't know if that'll settle but the front looks pretty dead-on though doesn't it the Front's like sick that rear needs to come down a little bit but what's easy is I can like easily just lift up the rear and do the rear with having to put on the left Alberta has been bugging about going for a ride in the side-by-side that's the only reason you've been hanging out here huh every day and it reminds me when window Brody that I wanted again but in this I just asked how fast a turbo side by side I see what this whole thing is all about watch all the way over like doing our wheelie oh my god so and now I don't gotta get sharing a ride oh well okay I already kinda want to see her reaction about this he should film the reaction yeah you like it all right real talk though we got to decide on the ride height I know it settled a little bit I feel like the back stills a little high though no it looks pretty even I'm not gonna lie yeah I just feel like I want to go littler with it I feel like this is kind of like the hnr height so we drove it around it is pretty soft it feels pretty good I would actually say maybe even softer than H NARS but yeah I don't know about height wise yet alright so one of the things going on today my friend Chris who worked with us in the FD program sent me a rad little turbo kit for the chaser so this is a steel wheel turbo yet laying around it's not a high-flow but it's a steel wheel so it shouldn't blow up the ceramic wheel with a brand new center section all this stuff he gave me a super good deal on this is actually a coated stock manifold with an external gate flange on so the turbo gate is welded shut and then it'll have an external gate to hopefully hold boost a little bit better it's got a sick aftermarket downpipe with a V Ben flange we can just bolt right on all the lines all the gaskets and everything you made it super simple I also got a shroud and fan off in so we can take care of that so today I'm gonna focus on kind of fixing some of the suspension stuff as well as giving that shroud situated and yo.hannes here and he's gonna help me with the turbo stuff he's no longer so yo.hannes one that made those cig badass manifolds on the 370z have you seen the thing yet like yeah what do you think should be we might be getting a running today yeah so he'll be cool pumped but anyway I appreciate you coming by and give me a hand well cool so this thing's gonna be going under the knife today I don't get in the way too much so I'm gonna start working on the interior stuff what I'm gonna do is pull these seats out chasers are kind of a little tricky I don't want to say tricky but a little annoying you gotta like pull all this trim stuff off just to get access to the seat bolts and I can pull this out and vacuum in here and clean it up before I put the new seats in it's nice that the air bag dinged off on this thing oh my god it's disgusting in here oh Christ Oh Sherman has mr. Sherman's getting excited for this this is his thing Sean loves mold I was uploading the video that you guys saw yesterday I think the taste video yo.hannes been on this for probably like 30 minutes and already has everything all part did your madman would have taken me all day just like haven't I'm here to help I got the rails all mounted up on the feet nice and simple always a bride rails just fit right on and then bolt right into the car here's a quick comparison of stock seat versus the Recaro these seats are actually really really common they comes stock and a bunch of different cars in Japan so finding them is pretty easy and they're pretty inexpensive over there so shipping sucks but should look cool in the car and hold you a little bit better it's very nice having friends that have chasers because it makes sourcing parks a lot easier my friend Chris also sent me his shroud off his radio oh and his fan that I just broke yeah that was in there so this is the fan set up from a turbo car the auto one on my chaser doesn't have these two extra fans so it'll be cool we can have the factory fan as well as these two fans that you can just basically wire to be on all the time and then the cooling is actually pretty solid on these things one of the tabs I needed on the shroud is broken so I took some the old plastic from the seat bolt covers that won't be used with the new rails and I actually made my own little tap what's cool is it has like little edges so I was able to use it and it's like reinforced and like this tab is strong as heck well we've set up compared to the new set up coated manifold and that down pipe looks so good definitely learned with cooling systems at every little bit counts so I've been kind of going a little bit overboard with all the ducting or I should say all of the weather stripping to get this shroud a bit perfect so kind of put a couple layers there a couple layers on the side just try to seal as much as we possibly can get the most air flow possible out of these fans Shulman Schulman ended it real quick dude looks brand new in vacuum I'm gonna put one day I'm excited to throw the seats in so this carpet is eventually gonna go in my nice chaser the plane is I want to put this one in a nice car because it's black and then I'll take the one out of my car and I'll diet and then I'll in this one so it'll still black carpet with the OEM nice black carpet will go in the nice car save a lot of time if we don't have to work on tapping up a new intercooler so me and Johan right now working on pressure testing this one we have a boost leak test we're gonna put on one end and then I rigged up like reducer coupler onto a can of brake cleaner that has a little rib so I can kind of use it as a plug I think it may hold there but some of these rows look questionable so actually a lot of these rows look questionable curious if they're split or not though like I don't I'm not sure why yeah try to tell based on like health designed to so is dial is mining it makes a little squeaky noise in music ready oh I you know it's really annoying I kind of enjoy trying to make things work that shouldn't work I'm probably the last hour me and Johannes them trying to make couplers that don't fit fit onto things and somehow we've managed to rig up two sides with leftover couplers and random piping to the point where I think we're pretty much sealed off now yeah yeah so a couple more clamps and then the intake side should be set yeah we're gonna we're gonna go through a fun lesson with Johan so Johanna I know you're the export of the export expert of the important world what do you think of my V 160 yes all right so a used V 160 what would that fetch probably about six to eight thousand dollars so we got the V 160 with a blitz twin disc clutch and the bracket and the drive shaft for jzx which I need it for grand sick deal right it sounds ridiculous to put it in the middle car but it's like one of those deals of like I need to get this because a deal like this is never gonna pop up again you can rip it out and sell it no I know for sure if I don't blow it up drifting but even broken they're still worth good money yeah so anyway that's the view in 60 in case you're wondering it fits up they're all nice and pretty we're gonna figure out some exhaust stuff now and I might swap out the knuckles just so this car drives straight down the road cuz right now it's pretty gnarly towed in well Johan right now is mocking up the old exhaust that came on my chaser to make something work for this thing and then I am actually changing knuckles I have these modded knuckles that I brought over from Japan I don't remember if these are hey min or Kazama but I think these are Haman I'm not positive but I think they're me me and Johan both hate the stupid dual tip exhaust but it sucks how good it fits like and that was pure luck I know we just you just literally got this section done and then we're just like oh let's try building up the rear section just for the hell of it and like dude it could have even more perfect hey dual piston whoops that actually looks good I mean I guess if it works like it sucks because these wells are so bad on this thing but like if it works I could very easily just add a straight piece in here down the road cuz nobody needs a muffin yeah turnout for what you think we're pretty much sealed off now yeah yeah so a couple more clamps and then the intake side should be set yeah we're gonna we're gonna go through a fun lesson with Johan so Johanna I know you're the export of the export expert of the important world what do you think of my V 160 yes all right so a used V 160 what would that fetch probably about six to eight thousand dollars so we got the V 160 with a blitz twin disc clutch and the bracket and the drive shaft for jzx which I need it for grand sick deal right it sounds ridiculous to put it in the middle car but it's like one of those deals of like I need to get this because a deal like this is never gonna pop up again you can rip it out and sell it no I know for sure if I don't blow it up drifting but even broken they're still worth good money yeah so anyway that's the view in 60 in case you're wondering it fits up they're all nice and pretty we're gonna figure out some exhaust stuff now and I might swap out the knuckles just so this car drives straight down the road cuz right now it's pretty gnarly towed in well Johan right now is mocking up the old exhaust that came on my chaser to make something work for this thing and then I am actually changing knuckles I have these modded knuckles that I brought over from Japan I don't remember if these are hey min or Kazama but I think these are Haman I'm not positive but I think they're me me and Johan both hate the stupid dual tip exhaust but it sucks how good it fits like and that was pure luck I know we just you just literally got this section done and then we're just like oh let's try building up the rear section just for the hell of it and like dude it could have even more perfect hey dual piston whoops that actually looks good I mean I guess if it works like it sucks because these wells are so bad on this thing but like if it works I could very easily just add a straight piece in here down the road cuz nobody needs a muffin yeah turnout for what you want just finished up the exhaust hangers and got it all nice in there it actually looks pretty cool not ideal for a missile where it's gonna be scraping against walls but it suits the bumper hold really really well going around it sounds super super healthy obviously no blow off valve yet which we're gonna have to add but sounds like it might be missing a little car was sputtering a little bit what does it always always boost like some new fresh stuff so a little vacuum line down there should be simple enough to cut so we fix out and we can see if there's any couplers or anything cuz that that's leaking a ton yeah if anyone has a front cover for B BT i1j my knuckle will thank you later it's bleeding everywhere thank you now the motivating factor behind staying here late to take it for this test drive we don't have headlights so we can't really go far nor do we have a plate or anything on the car but we're mechanic shops there's okay to go for test drives I think the cable might be pulled over here I don't think I've showed you guys the new seats in here but they look really clean I also put some Silvia floor mats that I had laying around would actually suit the car like very well so not the best shot of it but it looks very cool I tried to do a quick ghetto alignment to it sounds pretty good for how quiet it is it sounds good from in the car alright so this should be about a bar of booze and it should hold pretty good so it should read I don't know how the alignments gonna be and it scared to TechCrunch the nice defenders with that pretty glad you should be good yes I was while the cereals actually straight sounds like there might be a little mess it's okay but something seems like it like it's later I'm not good data like it's coming down low yeah as yeah me all day getting the thing way way better than it was before to now it's just kind of finishing a little bits and this thing should be not that much of a time suck and we should hopefully get the wheels in soon as well as the rest of the body panels tomorrow I'm gonna probably slam the super a little bit more like I said we're gonna tune the 370z tons of cool stuff going on and we'll talk to
