I Bought the Cheapest Ford Mustang Shelby Fastback Restomod in the USA, and You Should Too!

I recently had the opportunity to drive my latest acquisition, a Shelby GT350 replica built by me and equipped with a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine from an 1983 Ford Mustang. I must say, it's been a dream come true to have this car in my collection, and I'm thrilled to share my experience with you.

As I stood outside the auction venue, I couldn't help but think about how much I've been waiting for this moment. I'd spent years searching for a Shelby GT350 replica that would meet my standards, and finally, I found one. The bidding war was intense, but I knew I had to act fast. In the end, I walked away with the car, feeling like a kid on Christmas morning.

Now, as I drive this car around town, I feel like I'm in a dream. The engine purrs smoothly, and the supercharger kicks in with ease, providing a boost of power that's hard to match. The interior is sleek and modern, with all the amenities you'd expect from a high-performance car. But what really sets this car apart is its attention to detail – every aspect of its design has been meticulously researched and replicated to ensure that it meets the highest standards of authenticity.

As I cruise down the highway, I feel like I'm in a real Shelby GT350. The speedometer climbs up quickly, and the car seems to devour the miles with ease. It's exhilarating, to say the least, and I can see why this car has become an icon among car enthusiasts. Of course, as a nod to its inspiration, the car features classic Shelby stripes, which add to its nostalgic charm.

But what really sets this car apart is its engineering. The 5.0 liter V8 engine from the 1983 Ford Mustang may not be the original engine used in the Shelby GT350, but it's certainly a reliable and powerful one. And with the supercharger added on top, the power output increases dramatically, making this car a force to be reckoned with on the road.

As I continue driving, I think back to my friend Rob, who encouraged me not to buy the replica because it's "stolen valor." He warned me that if I couldn't afford the real deal, I shouldn't put the stripes on it. But I couldn't resist – I've always been drawn to the Shelby GT350, and this car is a tribute to its spirit.

Now, as I drive through town, I feel like a modern-day GT 350 driver, minus the need for power steering and air conditioning. Those features are nice, but I'm happy with my current setup, which provides plenty of control and comfort on the road. And let's be honest – where's the fun in driving a car that doesn't have a bit of character?

Of course, there will be those who say I've committed an act of automotive sacrilege by putting stripes on a replica without permission from Shelby. But I say, why not? This car is a tribute to the spirit of the original GT350, and it's meant to evoke that same feeling of excitement and performance.

As I pull over at the next red light, I glance in the mirror and notice my hands have strengthened since buying this car – I'm building up my forearms, one pedal press at a time. It's not about being a show-off; it's about channeling my inner racing driver and feeling alive on the road.

In short, this car has been an absolute blast to drive, and I'm thrilled to have it in my collection. Whether you're a seasoned car enthusiast or just starting out, there's something special about driving a high-performance vehicle that gets your heart racing. And let's be honest – who wouldn't want to cruise around town with the big Shelby stripes on their ride?

As I pull over at the next stoplight, I take a moment to reflect on what makes this car so special. For starters, it's got a great story behind it – built by a skilled craftsman who poured his heart and soul into replicating every detail of the original GT350. And let me tell you, it shows.

When I told my friend Rob that I was buying the replica, he warned me not to do so because "it's like stolen valor." But I couldn't resist – this car has captured my imagination, and I'm excited to see where our journey takes us.

As we cruise through town, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. This car is an absolute blast to drive, with its supercharged engine providing plenty of power and a boost of excitement that's hard to match. And let me tell you – it feels just as good to be driving this car as it would if I were behind the wheel of the original GT350.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "What about the real Shelby GT350? Isn't that the one that's truly iconic?" Well, let me tell you – while the original is certainly a legendary car, there's something to be said for the replica. It may not have the same heritage or provenance as the original, but it's still an incredible machine that captures the essence of what makes the Shelby GT350 so special.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhy did I buy one of these years ago seriously it just became a man yes did you see it coming out 2020 was starting off to be the year of the restomod I was watching Barrett Jackson's TV coverage the collector car auction in Scottsdale Arizona and noticed that resto modded cars cars with non-original more modern drive trains and modern comforts and conveniences were selling more than properly restored cars with period-correct engines stock cars which completely blew my mind and Craig Jackson the founder of barrett-jackson even a remark to this saying that he had a record amount of sales more younger people were coming out to buy cars and they were buying resto mods like this one so it prompted me to finally set out and buy my dream car this 1966 Mustang Fastback which is a Shelby gt350 tribute but it has a lot of modern flair to it and boy oh boy is it awesome but I don't think I'm nearly cool enough to own this thing I feel like I need to to butch up a little bit now despite what the stripes to say this isn't a real Shelby gt350 from 1966 that was built at shelby american in los angeles california around the time of the movie ford vs. Ferrari Ferrari won LeMond 1966 with the Ford GTS and at the same time when Shelby goes tinkering with those he was also building this off the Ford Mustang as GT 350 they built about a thousand of them in 1966 and most of them going to Hertz as red erasers but this certainly isn't it I paid $31,000 for this tribute to it and if it were a real one it would be worth well over $100,000 maybe way way more than that depending on how special it was if it was raced that kind of stuff so this being a tribute is a huge bargain in comparison and being a restomod it is better in a lot of ways and I've wanted one of these for as long as I can remember but have held off until last year when I was on Jalen was garage TV show and he took me for a ride in a real one and I've just been dreaming about buying one ever since and here it is I can't believe it myself I know personally I think finding a good deal on a collector car is way harder than buying say a normal used car or a slightly used exotic 10-15 years old because there are so many different examples in so many different configurations and conditions that two cars that really sit right next to each other look identical but they be so far apart in value that there's no way to compare them and I personally find that most classic car dealers tune to mark up their cars way more than they should because that's their business model they don't do very much volume so when they do sell a car they have to make up huge margin on it so buying from a dealer is tough and buying from an auction is even harder because he can't test drive the cars before shake him down they're old there's gonna be problems and then the fees at auctions 10% or more in some cases are really high you could also buy a project car and restore it yourself but the restoration costs will often exceed the value of the car in the case of this Mustang two three four five times that so I was thrilled to find this one it was the cheapest restored restomod Mustang in the USA and the previous owner he's he's an incredible person really a wizard beyond the wizard skills maybe it's just astounding and with that let's begin a tour on my Mustang my dream car I can't believe it's here and it's so beautiful and all that credit goes to Jesse the previous owner who only thing for almost 30 years he restored it completely twice in the second time he went all out there's so many things you can't see on this car to make it special II plan to make it a daily driver so much undercoating rust proofing all this stuff because he lived in Baltimore so he didn't want the body to rust out and ruin his beautiful work but he did everything on this car everything top to bottom the entire mechanical restoration even the paint so when he said he painted the car in his garage I had lowered expectations on how would look in person but the price was so good I decided to take a chance but when I got here just look at it this stripe is not vinyl it's painted on and you can see a few little fish eyes here and there maybe a bit of orange peel but really as far as restorations go this is super impressive the panels are all lining up really well about as good as you can expect from a factory car in the 1960s and look at that fastback roofline just gorgeous now the green is not factory it's actually a Mopar green color has a lot of metallic to it and even with Jesse doing the entire restoration himself he invested more than 50 thousand dollars into this Mustang $50,000 so you imagine with man-hours labor is probably well into the six figures if he calculated how much time he put into this and it really really shows this is the gas cap right here if you're not familiar with Mustangs so you can pull up on so you can pull up to either side of the pump and look at the interior here just beautifully restored and now that we're inside you're probably starting to notice the slight modifications from stock starting with a steering wheel to call them out a tachometer down here is a boost gauge more on that in a bit modern bluetooth stereo the back seat is gone in favor of these giant speakers as well as an amplifier in a subwoofer so this thing really booms it would be nice to have a back seat to haul the kids but that configuration it's just fine and it even has cupholders look at the center console with cup holders with Jessie driving this thing for so many years he did lots of little things to make it more ergonomically improved from the 60s like the cupholders also since you can't reach the stereo without leaning forward he put this remote here under the dash is also some phone charger cigarette lighters here but also under the dash are a few switches one of them is hidden right around by the handbrake this right here actually shuts off some of the electoral system to where it won't start he put that in when his son reached driving age he didn't trust him to not sneak the car out so he put that in so obviously condition wise completely blew me away here and I love the seats they're so soft and comfortable of stuffing still they're just really well done but most of the modifications all the good stuff this on the outside so with the suspension he replicated what Shelby did with the stabilizers and the arms and all that stuff to make it handle a lot better he's also up the brakes it has Ford Granada brakes which were bigger than the Mustang brakes but he's enhanced those with Wilwood calipers and a master cylinder more modern obviously you need the extra stopping power for what's under the hood I've held off on that long enough right here you ready for this 5 liter v8 and this is actually from a 93 Ford Mustang but has been fully rebuilt and built up to accept this Kenny Bell supercharger and the previous owner estimates the horsepower to be somewhere around 370 which is almost a hundred horsepower more than what an original 289 would have put out in this thing this wasn't a 289 car it had the inline 6 which was basically 0 horsepower and even the Shelby cars back in the day were around 300 horsepower than 350 s so this really stops that plus it's supercharged so the power delivery is instant in fantastic look how clean this engine bay is it's just amazing how nicest thing is top to bottom inside and out really there aren't many guys left that can do this in their garage to this quality I'm just completely blown away I do have one complaint Jesse before we go out for a drive and that's the ashtray I picture him painting a car with all the fumes in the garage and having a heater in his hand because left the ashtray full of cigarettes Jesse I've only spoken to you via the internet I've ever met you in person but I appreciate your work so much you are a true artist there's not many of you left and you gotta quit smoking so you can keep building cars like this just quit smoking now let's go for a drive no power steering yeah but still I have a muscle car guys I persisted buying one for this long because I wasn't sure if you all cared so seeing the auction craziness going on I figured well you'll probably care hopefully you do if you do please subscribe to who B's garage because that lets me know hitting that button below but also I just wouldn't do it for myself well I still could the prices kept going up I knew I need to have one of these while I still could so I found one the stock markets tank and we're probably going in a recession but whatever no regrets it still feels very vintage this isn't a full rest amount of the fact that it has air conditioning on that air conditioning doesn't have power steering doesn't have power brakes and that aspect it is just like a Shelby gt350 that you'd gone to Hertz in 1966 and ridden for yourself work bought from Carroll Shelby himself but the engine being a five liter v8 from a 1983 Ford Mustang brings a lot more reliability a lot more power obviously this one being built up and having that Kitty Bell supercharger now I have a friend Rob you all met Rob when he sold me the Alpina b7 and the Ferrari 355 and he encouraged me not to buy this car because it's like stolen valor it's not a real GT 350 if he can't afford the real one don't put the stripes on it and resto Martin's are crap he should buy an original I could've bought a boss Mustang from the less desirable 1970 model year and had a real Mustang with some serious performance but I mean come on Rob and actually when he finally saw the car in person he got it too if I had bought real Shelby Mustang would I be driving it my head right it'll be in my garage surrounded by a velvet rope I'd be terrified to take it out and do exactly what I'm doing now just running through the gears fun finally we're on a highway on-ramp here we go awesome this have this car that I've always wanted always dreamed of not disappointed in the slightest when I bought the Porsche 911 my first air-cooled 911 kind of disappointing there was a lot of money $47,000 so when I got it rode around for a couple weeks like that all there is but I've had this thing for more than a couple of weeks now to give my full of precious until the end and every moment has been a blast I've only gone through two tanks at casa driving around and we're still in winter versus no throttle but it still got it out every chance I could so for those that poopoo Ellen restomod all I have to say is don't knock it till you try it and really this is what Carol Shelby wanted anyway this is as close to his original vision is any other car so I really don't feel bad having the big Shelby stripes and everything else on this car it's a tribute to a great man who built an incredible car I know this makes me kind of a hypocrite because I criticized non AMG owners for putting AMG badges on their car saying with BMW and fives and they're actually 535 S or whatever but this this is car was built to be just like a Shelby gt350 if not better so it deserves to wear its colors I really think there's many more managed cars in my future because this this is just too good it's so much fun just to drive this around going 40 miles an hour I'm like a modern GT 350 which you can buy now for forty forty five thousand dollars not too far off of this but I doubt you could have this much fun just driving around town and I'm leaving my turn signal on this entire time like a like an old man oh so clearly this thing is not a hoopty it's the farthest thing I've ever bought from a hoopty say since my Lamborghini Guyardo so there's no going to the wizard to say here's everything that's wrong with it because there is nothing wrong with it the only thing I really could do is make it more comfortable to drive at power steering and air conditioning but I already have plenty of cars I have air conditioning and power steering and drive really easy so I think I'm going to keep this car exactly how it is which is a horrible idea for YouTube it just leaving a car has it is but maybe I'll build up my forearms a little bit more you'll notice the change in the coming months with that my voice will drop maybe I'll finally be able to grow some facial hair yeah thank you for watchingwhy did I buy one of these years ago seriously it just became a man yes did you see it coming out 2020 was starting off to be the year of the restomod I was watching Barrett Jackson's TV he put into this and it really really shows this is the gas cap right here if you're not familiar with Mustangs so you can pull up on so you can pull up to either side of the pump and look at the interior here just beautifully restored and now that we're inside you're probably starting to notice the slight modifications from stock starting with a steering wheel to call them out a tachometer down here is a boost gauge more on that in a bit modern bluetooth stereo the back seat is gone in favor of these giant speakers as well as an amplifier in a subwoofer so this thing really booms it would be nice to have a back seat to haul the kids but that configuration it's just fine and it even has cupholders look at the center console with cup holders with Jessie driving this thing for so many years he did lots of little things to make it more ergonomically improved from the 60s like the cupholders also since you can't reach the stereo without leaning forward he put this remote here under the dash is also some phone charger cigarette lighters here but also under the dash are a few switches one of them is hidden right around by the handbrake this right here actually shuts off some of the electoral system to where it won't start he put that in when his son reached driving age he didn't trust him to not sneak the car out so he put that in so obviously condition wise completely blew me away here and I love the seats they're so soft and comfortable of stuffing still they're just really well done but most of the modifications all the good stuff this on the outside so with the suspension he replicated what Shelby did with the stabilizers and the arms and all that stuff to make it handle a lot better he's also up the brakes it has Ford Granada brakes which were bigger than the Mustang brakes but he's enhanced those with Wilwood calipers and a master cylinder more modern obviously you need the extra stopping power for what's under the hood I've held off on that long enough right here you ready for this 5 liter v8 and this is actually from a 93 Ford Mustang but has been fully rebuilt and built up to accept this Kenny Bell supercharger and the previous owner estimates the horsepower to be somewhere around 370 which is almost a hundred horsepower more than what an original 289 would have put out in this thing this wasn't a 289 car it had the inline 6 which was basically 0 horsepower and even the Shelby cars back in the day were around 300 horsepower than 350 s so this really stops that plus it's supercharged so the power delivery is instant in fantastic look how clean this engine bay is it's just amazing how nicest thing is top to bottom inside and out really there aren't many guys left that can do this in their garage to this quality I'm just completely blown away I do have one complaint Jesse before we go out for a drive and that's the ashtray I picture him painting a car with all the fumes in the garage and having a heater in his hand because left the ashtray full of cigarettes Jesse I've only spoken to you via the internet I've ever met you in person but I appreciate your work so much you are a true artist there's not many of you left and you gotta quit smoking so you can keep building cars like this just quit smoking now let's go for a drive no power steering yeah but still I have a muscle car guys I persisted buying one for this long because I wasn't sure if you all cared so seeing the auction craziness going on I figured well you'll probably care hopefully you do if you do please subscribe to who B's garage because that lets me know hitting that button below but also I just wouldn't do it for myself well I still could the prices kept going up I knew I need to have one of these while I still could so I found one the stock markets tank and we're probably going in a recession but whatever no regrets it still feels very vintage this isn't a full rest amount of the fact that it has air conditioning on that air conditioning doesn't have power steering doesn't have power brakes and that aspect it is just like a Shelby gt350 that you'd gone to Hertz in 1966 and ridden for yourself work bought from Carroll Shelby himself but the engine being a five liter v8 from a 1983 Ford Mustang brings a lot more reliability a lot more power obviously this one being built up and having that Kitty Bell supercharger now I have a friend Rob you all met Rob when he sold me the Alpina b7 and the Ferrari 355 and he encouraged me not to buy this car because it's like stolen valor it's not a real GT 350 if he can't afford the real one don't put the stripes on it and resto Martin's are crap he should buy an original I could've bought a boss Mustang from the less desirable 1970 model year and had a real Mustang with some serious performance but I mean come on Rob and actually when he finally saw the car in person he got it too if I had bought real Shelby Mustang would I be driving it my head right it'll be in my garage surrounded by a velvet rope I'd be terrified to take it out and do exactly what I'm doing now just running through the gears fun finally we're on a highway on-ramp here we go awesome this have this car that I've always wanted always dreamed of not disappointed in the slightest when I bought the Porsche 911 my first air-cooled 911 kind of disappointing there was a lot of money $47,000 so when I got it rode around for a couple weeks like that all there is but I've had this thing for more than a couple of weeks now to give my full of precious until the end and every moment has been a blast I've only gone through two tanks at casa driving around and we're still in winter versus no throttle but it still got it out every chance I could so for those that poopoo Ellen restomod all I have to say is don't knock it till you try it and really this is what Carol Shelby wanted anyway this is as close to his original vision is any other car so I really don't feel bad having the big Shelby stripes and everything else on this car it's a tribute to a great man who built an incredible car I know this makes me kind of a hypocrite because I criticized non AMG owners for putting AMG badges on their car saying with BMW and fives and they're actually 535 S or whatever but this this is car was built to be just like a Shelby gt350 if not better so it deserves to wear its colors I really think there's many more managed cars in my future because this this is just too good it's so much fun just to drive this around going 40 miles an hour I'm like a modern GT 350 which you can buy now for forty forty five thousand dollars not too far off of this but I doubt you could have this much fun just driving around town and I'm leaving my turn signal on this entire time like a like an old man oh so clearly this thing is not a hoopty it's the farthest thing I've ever bought from a hoopty say since my Lamborghini Guyardo so there's no going to the wizard to say here's everything that's wrong with it because there is nothing wrong with it the only thing I really could do is make it more comfortable to drive at power steering and air conditioning but I already have plenty of cars I have air conditioning and power steering and drive really easy so I think I'm going to keep this car exactly how it is which is a horrible idea for YouTube it just leaving a car has it is but maybe I'll build up my forearms a little bit more you'll notice the change in the coming months with that my voice will drop maybe I'll finally be able to grow some facial hair yeah thank you for watching\n"
