The £99 Smartphone! HONOR 7S Review _ The Tech Chap
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en99 pounds that's how much the new honor 7s costs a penny under a hundred pounds that's ridiculous I mean you could buy ten of these for the same price as one of these two the iPhone 10 I mean I would prefer the iPhone is a much better phone but if you just want a basic cheap and cheerful smart phone the 7s is fantastic value for money but just because it's cheap doesn't necessarily mean you should buy it but let's start with the good stuff and you get a 5.5 inch screen with a taller 18 by 9 aspect ratio which gives it a more modern 20:18 look design wise I really don't have many complaints it's slim it's comfortable to hold the bezels aren't too chunky it genuinely feels like a well-made device and far more premium than the price tag would suggest I've got it in black which looks smart enough I suppose a little bit boring you can also get it in blue and I think also gold depending on where you live but they would definitely stand out more than this there's no home button no fingerprint reader and it uses the older micro USB connection which is a bit of a shame but none of these are exactly deal breakers weirdly though there's no speaker grille on the bottom of the phone instead the only speaker is in the earpiece call quality is fine but speaker quality is pretty rubbish unfortunately sounding quite weak and tinny the 720p resolution of the screen means it's not the sharpest but the IPS panel is bright it's colourful and has solid viewing angles it's also really good to see that this comes with the latest Android 8.1 software which is quite rare for budget phones like this usually you're stuck with older versions of the software and it does help mitigate the performance which is my biggest complaint about the 7s so let's get on to the not-so-good stuff and as I say my biggest issue is it's slow really slow sometimes even just doing basic tasks like opening apps or typing on the keyboard it can be really frustrating I was actually surprised though given how slow it can feel in general use that it handled games reasonably well less intensive games like temple run - were perfectly playable but I would avoid anything more graphically intensive like modern combat 5 which struggled to maintain a smooth frame rate now obviously I didn't expect any sort of bless during the fast performance from a phone this price but the quad-core MediaTek chip and the two gigs of ram just don't have the horsepower to make this feel nice to use and it's 16 gigs of storage is basically the minimum you can expect from a 20-18 phone but the good news is it does support micro SD card so you can expand the memory by up to 256 gigs as for the camera well you know it's not gonna be great on a phone this price but it's not the end of the world I'd say it's serviceable you gave 13 megapixel rear and a 5 megapixel front camera and if you're just putting photos on Instagram and not fussy about lots of detail when zooming in or limited dynamic range honestly it's absolutely fine and you can't really expect much more at this price point and next two photos from honours flagship deep on a 10 yeah there's a clear difference in detail and quality but that phone costs four times more than this video is also limited to 1080p at 30fps which actually looks quite good although the lack of any kind of stabilization is pretty obvious selfies come out a little soft there's definitely a lack of detail there but colors look good and it does have a wide field of view I guess the one benefit of an underpowered phone is you do get better battery life the 720p screen there's slightly lower energy consuming hardware means that combined with the 3020 million power cell this gets you through a full day pretty easily and around 22% left at the end of a normal work day so that's pretty good you will need to charge it overnight and unfortunately it does not support any sort of fast charging which would be really my only complaint when it comes to battery life so the big question should you buy the honor 7s well I guess if you literally only have 100 pounds to spend and you need a solid but basic smartphone absolutely it looks good it's got solid battery life and it's so cheap you can almost forgive its sluggish performance and slightly weak camera but and it's a big but if you can stretch your budget a little bit further by say another 60 or 70 pounds you can buy the Moto G 6 play with more RAM twice a storage closer to stock Android software which is nice to use the camera is better and it has an awesome battery life so if you can afford to pay that a little bit more than I think you should but as a backup or a burner phone or someone's first smartphone and you're on a super tight budget the 7s is definitely worth considering and I've put links to both of those phones in the description if you want to check those out and I'd love to hear what you think about the honor 7s would you consider buying a phone this cheap let me know what you think in the comments thank you so much for watching guys if you did enjoy this video you click that like and maybe subscribe button if you want to see more of my videos and
