iOS 16.2 RC Released - What’s New

**iOS 16.2 Release Candidate Build Review**

It's more like an actual always-on display, no notifications, and no wallpaper, which is a very nice addition that will be well-received by all 14 pro users. Additionally, this feature saves a significant amount of battery life, making it a welcome change for those who have struggled with battery drain on previous versions of iOS.

In the latest release candidate build of iOS 16.2, there are several new features and changes that make this update exciting. The article will cover the details of these changes in an upcoming video titled "What's New in iOS 16.2" next week when the final release is made available to the public.

**Bugs and Performance**

Despite its many improvements, iOS 16.2 still has a few bugs that need to be addressed. One bug that I've been experiencing on the fourth beta and RC builds is lag with HomeKit devices. This lag occurs when switching between applications or certain actions within an app. While there's a fix for this issue, it's not yet available.

Another bug that's still present in the latest build is the focus bug, which causes the lock screen and home screen wallpaper to become completely black when entering and exiting Focus mode. I've experienced this bug daily since iOS 16.1, but Apple may have addressed it with the upcoming update.

In terms of performance, I've noticed that iOS 16.2 runs smoother than previous versions, particularly in areas where there was lag or slowdowns. This includes actions like switching between applications and using certain features within apps.

To test this improved performance, I ran a quick Geekbench test on the RC build. The results showed a score of 1881 for single-core processing and 5387 for multi-core processing, which is higher than previous beta builds.

**Battery Life**

As expected, battery life has been good in iOS 16.2 so far. However, those who have had significant issues with battery drain on previous versions may still see some improvements with this update. The article will provide more details on battery life in an upcoming video titled "Apple Weekly" on Saturday and in the official "What's New in iOS 16.2" video next week.

**Release Date Prediction**

The final release of iOS 16.2 is expected to occur next week, likely on Monday, the 12th. Apple typically releases updates on Mondays, and I predict that iOS 16.3 beta 1 will also be released next week, possibly on the same day or shortly after.

However, it's essential to note that updating to the first beta of a new version can sometimes lead to issues, so users should exercise caution when testing this update. There may not even be a second beta available for several weeks, making it crucial to wait until the initial release before upgrading.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, iOS 16.2 is looking like an excellent update, with many new features and improvements that will enhance the user experience. While there are still some bugs to address, the performance issues have been significantly reduced. Users can look forward to a smoother, more efficient operating system next week when the final release of iOS 16.2 becomes available.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enafter going through four beta stages Apple has just released the RC or release candidate build of iOS 16.2 to both registered developers and to public beta testers so in this video we're going to discuss what's new and when to expect the final release now along with this iOS release we also got the RC build of iPad OS 16.2 Mac OS 13.1 watch OS 9.2 tbos 16.2 and homepod Os 16.2 so let's start with the size of this update and mine came in over five gigabytes and that's going to be the case for most of you guys who are coming from a beta because anytime we go from a beta to a final release or an RC or vice versa it's always going to be multiple gigabytes so expect a large download here for the RC build of 16.2 let's check out the build number settings General about 16.2 we could see the new build number is 20c65 all right so now what's new here in the RC build of iOS 16.2 and keep in mind this is the final release most likely the final release before the official release goes out to the public the only thing that we might see after this would be like an rc2 which should only patch up a minor bug or maybe a security vulnerability but all the features you see in the RC build will be there in at the final release so let's talk about the first feature which is Apple music sing and this is something I tweeted out about a few days ago but this is now here in iOS 16.2 and what this is is essentially just a karaoke mode so if I go to the lyrics here in a song now keep in mind this only works for select songs there were numerous songs that did not have this feature so keep that in mind it only works for some songs in apple music but what this is as you can see down here we have this little karaoke button right here it's actually a slider so if you tap on that you're able to adjust the volume and this will adjust the volume of the vocal tools so I'm not going to play the music for copyright reasons but you can play around with it yourself and you will hear that the vocals get drained out the lower this volume goes and never goes to zero so you will always hear vocals if you listen close enough but it does go down pretty low now the cool thing about this is that the instrumental volume stays the same so you will still hear the instrumental at the same volume that way you can actually sing along with it like karaoke is supposed to be done now what's cool also is that sometimes you will see that the lyrics are actually going by the word so for some reason in this song it's not going like per word but in some songs you will see the lyrics kind of light up and let me find this actually for an example for you guys so here's an example you can see it goes by the word it kind of just you know slows down for certain parts where the artist is singing maybe a little bit slower or a little bit faster that way you can follow along with the lyrics better and this is also great for karaoke as well so you can sing in tune and on Beat Now Apple also mentions background vocals so they say vocal lines sung simultaneously can animate independently from the the main vocals to make it easier for users to follow and also duet views so there's also multiple vocalists can show on opposite sides of the screen to make Duets or multi-singer tracks easy to sing along to so this is a really cool feature and I've actually been having quite a bit of fun with this like singing along to some of this music right here it's actually pretty enjoyable and I could see this being really fun especially on the Apple TV 4K so this is only compatible with a13 and newer devices and the only Apple TV it's compatible with is the new one that just came out this year so keep that in mind now there's another massive feature in this update and if we go into our iCloud settings right here and then to iCloud and then go all the way down and you will see a new section called Advanced Data protection now if you tap on that you will see a brand new security feature that Apple has introduced with iOS 16.2 that's called Advanced Data protection and what this does is it basically allows you to have end-to-end encryption on your backups so I don't know how it took Apple so long but now your iCloud backups will be end to end encrypted and you can see the specifics as to what is encrypted so your backups your messages backups your photos your notes your wallet passes all of that right there now if you turn on Advanced Data protection you can see you do have a button to press right there and it says you will be responsible for your data recovery because Apple will not have the keys required to recover your data you need to set up an alternate recovery method so to do this just tap on that right there and you will need to add a recovery contact or a recovery key so the contact is pretty straightforward and it says that a recovery contact can generate a code from their Apple device to help you get your data back or a recovery key so we're going to go ahead and tap on that we're going to turn that on and right here it shows my recovery key and it says this key will be required to recover your account and the data if you can't use your passcode or trusted phone number so this is basically something that you need to keep somewhere where you can always have access to this long string of numbers in order to recover your data now along with this Advanced Data protection Apple did also mention two more security features that are coming in 2023 in a press release earlier today so the first one is security key so you're going to be now able to use or in 2023 you're going to be able to use physical security keys to log in to certain sites and the other one is iMessage contact key verification and it says that the vast majority of users have will never be targeted by highly sophisticated cyber attacks but this feature does provide an important additional layer of security for those who might be and it says conversations between users who have enabled this feature receive automatic alerts if an exceptionally Advanced adversary such as a state-sponsored attacker were ever to succeed breaching Cloud servers and inserting their own device to eavesdrop on these encrypted Communications so this is really awesome and apple is really just upping its security game even more with the introduction of 16.2 and eventually into 6 16.3 and 16.4 when these other features roll out now speaking of security we also have another pretty big change here and 16.2 RC and if we go into our control center here and tap and hold on our platter up here and go to airdrop you will notice that now just like what we had in China we have everyone for 10 minutes so instead of airdrop always being on everyone it's now only on everyone for 10 minutes before it goes back to contacts only so this is great for security reasons because of course that's not going to allow you to always be visible to everybody around you especially in airports and places like that where you may not want to be you know seen on airdrop now it will turn off automatically after 10 minutes and again this was available first in China but now it's available globally starting with 16.2 now we also have a few new improvements and Bug fixes that Apple mentions here in the release notes so the first one says improved search and messages allows you to find photos based on their content so I mentioned dog a car person or text now I tried searching in messages you know searching for dog cat car and nothing came up but you know we'll have to wait and see how that progresses over the time of 16.2 we then have the turn off hide IP address setting that's when you tap on the two A's in Safari you will see the addition of turning off or on the hot IP address setting we have the news articles in weather so we already talked about that on previous betas now the next one is pretty interesting participant cursors and notes allows you to see live indicators as others make updates in a shared note so that is a nice addition if you collaborate and notes and speaking of notes we also have a bug fix that fixes an issue that causes some notes not to sync with iCloud after updates are made so that has been addressed with this and then we also have of course the airdrop automatically reverting to contacts only after 10 minutes and crash detection optimizations for the 14 and 14 Pro Models so iOS 16.2 is shaping up to be a a massive update and of course one of the big features that I didn't mention yet in this video is if we go into our display in brightness and to the always on display right here this is a massive feature for 14 pro and pro Max users where you can now turn off the wallpaper and notifications for your always on display so now when you go to the always on display you can see it's more like an actual always on display no notifications no wallpaper and it saves a good bit of battery life so that is a very nice addition there and that is going to be very well received I'm sure by all 14 pro users and then of course we have a ton of other new features and changes as well in iOS 16.2 which I will talk about in my what's new video that's coming next week when 16.2 rolls out to the public now as far as bugs go there are a couple of bugs that I've been still facing on the fourth Beta And even the RC right here so you can see I still have that lag for the home kit devices right there now we do have a fix for lag when you go into an application and then out of it so sometimes there was a stutter on previous versions of iOS 16 but we no longer have that stutter however one thing that has not been fixed at least that I've seen yet is the focus bug so basically when you would go into a focus mode and then out of it it would basically turn your lock screen and your home screen wallpaper completely black that's happened pretty much on a daily basis ever since iOS 16.1 so hopefully this update does fix that but it is too early to tell just yet now as far as the performance goes I've actually noticed that performance is a little bit better here on the RC build of iOS 16.2 and I'm mainly comparing this to iOS 16.1 through 16.1.2 so I do think that 16.2 is going to have a nice Improvement to Performance and most of it's going to be mainly just like bug fixes and minor UI you know issues like going home from an application or you know other little areas where there was just maybe some lag or maybe some slowdowns or some bugs some UI bugs things like that will be better here on 16.2 and I am also running a quick geekbench test here to see how it compares to previous versions alright so we scored in 1881 on the single core and a 5387 on the multi-core now if we compare that to previous versions you can see that we finally have a higher single core score so we had 1877 from betas 2 through 4. we finally have something higher than that right there 1881 but the multi-core is slightly lower and then as far as the battery life goes don't expect any major improvements to battery life here unless you just had major issues on previous versions of iOS 16 if you had like really bad battery drain that might get fixed here in 16.2 but so far I mean battery life has been pretty good I really have no complaints but to me it's been good really since iOS 16.1 so you know you might see improvements of course this varies tremendously on a you know case-to-case basis so you guys will just have to let me know in a comment down below how it is for you and I will also give you guys an update on battery life in my Apple weekly episode on Saturday and also in my official what's new video for for 16.2 next week now speaking of iOS 16.2 next week let's talk about when to expect that final release now today is the 7th now there is a possibility of the next release being an rc2 but that's not you know a common thing that Apple does it doesn't happen every time so let's just talk about the final release of iOS 16.2 and that is going to come most likely next week and if I had to guess on a day I would guess right there on Monday the 12th Apple does usually like to release these updates on Mondays and I would also expect an iOS 16.3 beta 1 next week as well now it's hard to predict this one it could be as early as the same day as iOS 16.2 gets released or it could be a day or two after so nonetheless I would expect a 16.3 beta 1 to come next week as well and you know be careful updating to that beta because we're probably not going to have a beta 2 for several weeks maybe three or four weeks until another beta after beta 1. so keep that in mind and that is my prediction for next week but anyways guys yeah there you have it that is IOS 16.2 the RC or release candidate build again this is basically the final release before the official public release comes out next week I hope you guys enjoyed this video if you did I would appreciate if you give it a thumbs up also make sure to subscribe for a lot more iOS 16 coverage and that 16.2 video next week but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you soon thank you foreignafter going
