New 2021 Apple TV 4K - Unboxing, Comparison and Overview
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enHi everyone Aaron here for Zollotech and this is the new 2021 apple tv 4k so this is their latest version where they revamped the remote and we'll take a look at everything else now this comes in at 179 for 32 gigs of storage or 199 for 64 gigs of storage like i have here so you get a little extra storage for a little extra money let's go ahead and open this up so we'll open this up here there we go and let's take the wrapper offand take it out of the boxthere we go so here is the apple tv itself we'll set that aside for just a moment and also the remote it's the new siri remote and in here on the side you've got your power cable so your typical power cable that's black and matching so we've got that and let's see what else we have here so we'll set this aside and this is upside down we'll set this aside see what we've got a little bit of paperwork here two apple stickers two small apple stickersand then there's information about what you have on the back of the apple tv and you've got a lightning cable as well so you can connect the remote to it and actually charge it if you want to do that that way so let's set this aside and these are small enough where they might fit on the new imac so if you want to put a small sticker on the front and you picked up an apple tv it might fit on the chin of the imac although you wouldn't have a matching sticker now here's the apple tv this looks basically identical to the previous one let's take the little wrappers off hereand we have an apple sticker underneath or an apple logo rather not a sticker and let's take this offthere we go and this looks exactly like the previous generation i actually have the previous generation right here in fact it's the exact same as far as the thickness the size overall and everything now as far as the ports on the back again it's the exact same as we had with the previous generation from 2017 so you have your power then you have hdmi in the middle and then you have ethernet so those are all built in this does have some new specs as well and then just to show you a previous generation where it was a little thinner but you've got some more ports you used to get a spdif optical port and then hdmi micro usb and ethernet so they used to give you more ports now you have less but either way it has some different specs now internally this has an a12 bionic it also has hdmi 2.1 this time it allows for up to higher frame rates 60 frames per second for example on youtube as well as 802.11 ax which is wi-fi 6. so it has 802.11 a b g n ac and ax and then also thread support that's for smart home devices and then the gigabit ethernet so it has an ir receiver and it also has bluetooth 5.0 where and that's where the siri remote comes in let's go ahead and open the siri remote here see we can slide it out and the siri remote is a little bit different than last year it's aluminum and it feels a little bit thicker so as a comparison here is the siri remote from last time so it was a touch pad and you had the menu button which has a little surround on it so you know where the menu button is or the menu itself that you use all the time i actually like this remote so does my wife some people don't but it's a little bit thin and you'll see here compared to the new one it's much smaller so the new remote is a little bit taller it's also probably double the thickness it's quite thick and then also has some different buttons so it's very similar at the bottom but on the bottom left you have a mute button above that you have play pause to the right is your volume button similar to before but the microphone button is not here anymore for siri you also have your menu button and a back button here so instead of menu it's now back and then you have touch buttons at the top so i believe this is more like a touch wheel where you can move your finger around or click it so they are clickable and then also you have a power button which we didn't have before where you could turn it off it just sort of went to sleep by itself on the side we also now have a siri button so instead of having the siri button down in the bottom left or halfway down we now have it on the right so if you're holding it like this and you want to use siri you can and you've got a little microphone hole there so you can talk into it and just like you did before you have a microphone at the top now you can use the old remote with it if you still prefer this remote but the new one may be preferable for a lot of people so you'll see there and then on the bottom you'll see there's two screws probably for a replaceable battery which could be nice if it wears out and then you've got a lightning port there as well so maybe we have a replaceable battery in there i'm not sure but it's nice to see that so let's go ahead and take a look at this now you can use this with different controllers such as ps5 for example or the xbox series x controller you can pair either of these to it and use it with those so let's go ahead and set this up see what that's like and then take a look at the interface it shouldn't be any different than before thoughso we'll boot it up we'll wait for it to turn on here so now it finds that it's auto hdr and let's go ahead and see if we can pair the remote or push the button here there we go it says bonjour and now we can select a language so we can go down and select a language and we can actually slide our finger here so as i slide you'll see that it goes up and down so we'll go ahead and select english and it's the united states and then it's talking about data and privacy so we'll go ahead and hit continue and then automatically set up your apple tv using your iphone so just like other applications or other devices you can do that so we'll set up with iphone it says unlock your iphone or ipod touch or ipad connect to wi-fi turn on bluetooth and hold it near the apple tv and you'll see immediately it says set up new apple tv so we'll go ahead and hit setup it says connecting and now it wants me to put in the passcode that's on the screen put it on the iphone itself to verify it says setting up wi-fi we'll give it just a moment here now it's saying activating so again we'll give it a moment and then setting up icloud and now it says use remote on your iphone tap done now it's all set up we can use this remote and now it's asking us to require a password when purchasing and we'll say require after 15 minutes and now it's explaining how to use settings from your phone and you can transfer those as well so we'll go ahead and hit continue now on this screen it says one home screen on every apple tv we'll go ahead and turn that on so they're synced across them and it says your homes is this home or office it's going to be my home and in the home where is it so we'll select loft and then see the world do we want to automatically download these screen savers and i want to automatically download and then we can either share app analytics with developers or not share it all i really like this remote how they've actually made it a touch and not just a click so you can use either or depending on what you'd like to do we'll share we have to agree to the terms and conditions and now we're at the home screen so we can scroll down just like we would before just like you would expect with apple tv of course i'll need to add some apps later but if we go into settings we have the different options here so if maybe we go to video and audio we have different options 4k hdr at 60 hertz so we can now do higher frame rates not only on youtube but here as well and then you've got all these other options as well so if you don't have these others we press back on the remote and we go back and then you've got chroma you can change it to four to two so we'll use four two two try it out now let's switch to four two two i prefer that for higher quality and then you can match content and more so these are all the same settings we had before you have navigation clicks and more so we'll go back and we'll go to system and see what version we're on software updates we're on tv os 14.5 and it says your tv is up to date so it says automatically updated there we go we should be getting 14.6 soon we'll go back go back one more and if we want to we can pair different remotes so we could pair a ps4 remote for example or something else so you'll see all of a sudden now it's kind of downloading how i have everything arranged from prime video and everything else so it's going to take a moment to install all of these different apps and things so we'll give it a moment to install and then we'll come back as you can see everything's set up on the apple tv and it synced with the previous setup so all the apps i had before are on this apple tv just like i had them in the exact same layout i had them before just like you were restoring an iphone for example if i go into apple tv go to my library everything's there and as you can see it's pretty fast and smooth as i move around it's quite fast compared to the previous generation that seemed to have some hiccups from time to time it was three years old or so or three and a half years old so this is very fast so no problems there now if i go down to settings under settings let's go to remotes and devices and under remotes and devices we have bluetooth for example and maybe we want to pair a game controller so i have the ps5 controller here what you do is press and hold the ps or playstation button and then this button let's hold them boththere we go it says dual sense wireless controller below click on that give it just a moment and now it's paired so now i can move through the the new apple tv no problem and you can do the same with the xbox controller as well so if i bring over the xbox controller here we'll turn it on push the pairing buttongive it just a moment and i'm not sure if you can control both at once or connect both but there it is it's the xbox controller we'll press connect and we'll pair this one give it just a moment and now it's connected now i can use the xbox series x controller and it gives me the battery status there so we can use either or they're both connected at the same time if i go back and forth with ps5 or if i go to xbox you can use both at the same time so maybe with a two player game for example so that's something that works really well and it seems very fast i'm really enjoying how quick this is to go through it and of course those higher frame rates will be great for games and maybe movies if there's some higher frame rate movies for example so it looks nice and fast let's just load a game quick see how quick it is we'll give it just a moment and there we go we're already in and we can continue from where we left off so we're already in we'll go back and again we're back to the main page it's nice and fast double press this button and we can switch through our apps we can swipe them off the screen if we want and close them out now just like before we now have access to talk to the remote but the buttons on the side so if we press and hold find back to the futurethere we go and even though it said press and hold in there it found back to the future so we have a pretty fast search system it seems much faster than before so i'm pretty happy with this i'm glad they finally updated it let me know what you think about the new apple tv in the comments below it's odd that they used an a12 bionic that's technically a little bit slower as far
