injectors because that's what I got to do yeah like this is cool we're gonna like I'm gonna measure them and I'm gonna like try and get more flow out of them and do like cool stuff like that and make my fuel system work cause car like cars they move without fuel unless they're electric that's that's a common form of fuel though so one of the biggest problems I've had with too sexy apart from the problem of looking at it is um is fuel is not getting into that engine and it's not being managed properly a turbo system is all well and good but if you're not getting enough fuel in there and the computers not mapped to run it you're not going to make any power it's got a stock fuel rail on it and stock injectors from what I can tell they're around 200 CC which is which is small it's fine for a 1.5 liter engine with no boost but as soon as you're putting boost in there you've got to get more fuel in and I'm going to run out a injector really really quickly so what I've had to do is go and find different injectors so I've been down to the records and I've managed to find another fuel rail the same as what I've got these are cheap because these are so common they're the same as a mirage as well so 1.5 and the good thing is I've now got a rail external to the car the car can still work where I can mess around with this hack it up cut it do what I've got to do and also experiment with injectors I've got a couple of different injectors I've got some old mx-5 injectors which I don't think you're gonna be that's alright that's a heavy bastard do you feel a heavy this time massive man so I've got some old mx-5 injectors which I think also are going to be a little bit too small so the records are also found on the advice of turbo Yoda some easy 30 subaru injectors these are Denso so that's a really common brand of injector and they're all slightly different sizes so I may have to experiment with rail height but it's much easier to go with bigger injectors longer injectors and it is smaller so I should be alright to be able to experiment with these then if I can't get enough flow out of these I might have to D cap what I've got which means you cut the end off then you've got to check the spray pattern to make sure that it's still is like atomizing or fuel because you can't just have it squirting in to do that I'm going to use this little kind of test setup that I made it's got an injector rail in there I'm going to insert this injector I'll in between so I can then trigger the injector for a certain amount of time and just have a look at the spray pattern and see how much fuels coming out of it and that's a really kind of cool home brew way to try and make injectors work you can go out and buy expensive aftermarket ones too which in some cars is great but this is all about doing it on a budget so that is what I'm going to try and do with my mad injector bucket it may not work or it might work and then I'll make mad boost decapping injectors a little bit tricky a little bit dodgy but various amounts of success over the years on different cars and particularly in Subaru or for some reason this is a really kind of popular modification because it is something you do for $0 all these injectors that I've got were cheap or free so mx-5 ones is old round in ones I had lying around there's another set of factory ones the same as what's in the car and I managed to pick up a set of easy 30 Subaru ones I grabs everyone's for a few reasons because I know that certain ones of these you can decap them yeah and what that means is you take off this little tiny strainer on the top yeah which slows down the flow and that just looks dizzy the fall basically so there's one that I just this is one I prepared earlier because I've no idea this is going to work right in will waste all that time so that's got no cap on and see it's just one giant pin - yeah right so the idea is and it's really common in Subaru land is that you take the cap off it D restricts the flow and you can sometimes double your performance you inject it now this which is going to save you money right because because otherwise you're buying more expensive injectors that are performance engineer at a higher flow well and a lot of the time performance injectors are just bigger versions of these now there's a lot of science behind like spray patterns and efficiency and I mean if you it is a bit of a hack like some people managed to pull off perfectly and get really good result and expect anything less smart so I wanted to try want to try and also this is like the perfect situation where you've got a bunch of old parts you've got spares you can afford to have a go at it yeah and so and I'm going to use this little test bench that I made up which is a fuel pump in a big bucket of fuel yeah and then that's got a return line going to it through just the start don't tell me we plug the injector under that and then we spray that out yeah and then we go to stopwatch and we can get a stopwatch that's the simple I doing you can you can do like measurements of how much fluid is in there all I'm interested in is how long does it take to squirt hundred bills yeah on a very basic level if you squirt a stock one and then you squirt and Adi capped one and very sighs you should see a difference in time yeah so what I reckon we do is we plug in a stock one yup see how long it takes we plug in a stock super we're going to squirt multiple times and measure how much fluid comes out exactly in an examination cup great let's do it man what are we going to do first I reckon we do how can we do that the the stock one that's in the car let's compare that to the mx-5 alright so I could like comparative in their levels of crud that's a stock one that's an mx-5 one and then we've got a Subaru wants to try the stocks to everyone and then decap and see if it actually works they call mx-5 miata is overseas nieta isn't that weird man this is like a Subaru and Mitsubishi loving like I'm chopping up Subaru injector injector plugs which fit no they fit Mazda injectors they fit Mitsubishi injectors and they fit Subaru injectors it's like a big JDM loving dude it's more JDM than your Saab clamped him down because there is fair bit of fuel pressure behind that like when you do proper bench testers all set amounts of fuel pressure you're supposed to use this is this WebWork let's straight out the door whatever we can find so I put a plug on it you're on my science is usually pretty credible isn't it yeah heaps but hopefully we'll see a difference so I've just put that to stop it spraying off you can see 100 mils down here on the thing yeah yeah it's going to be wash around a bit so we'll just we'll just have to see what happens basically we'll count us down three two one yep so that's got fuel pressure behind it now and this will open the injector now at 100 percent duty cycle which is what this is doing again not completely accurate but because it's not been a little bit it's just blasting through let's it'll give us an indication so alright so this is test one and three two one go I look at it go yeah so you're kind of looking at this line here because where it's spraying it's not that accurate but see the line yeah yeah we want to get that soak on at the bottom of 500 they're getting close which is actually 100 mils right over here so it's almost yeah on this side 100 mill not yet see over here yep 100 mill still a bit more bit more almost almost that's 24 25 and that's it I reckon done yeah well that's 29 seconds so stuck 1 2000 seconds alright right now I was speaking to turbo Yoder about like various injectors and stuff and he said that when they're at a hundred percent duty cycle they don't like that guys want to flatten out a bit and even smaller okay but there's still limitations which is what I'm interested in is when you take the screen off I'm interested to see how much of a flow restriction that is yeah that's that's essentially what we're doing we're just seeing if there's any difference with that so unplug him I'll take a screenshot of that so those 29 seconds and that was the stock Lance or one Dhokla and so on so I'll pour this back into our fuel tank just another container turn that on there so which one next man x5 all right so Moses if you miss your mx-5 Martin a little bit do you yeah I'm very surprised to hear that much a good like just nugget we can drive around you know yeah yeah they are cool but they're also completely useless like convertible thing you can't put any luggage in and not that fast not bid on it cuz we got a lot of mates with it roadsters maybe we do and I know that there's a lot about us or well there's two things they talked about a lot one their cars - how they can't do anything you guys don't let them do it alright ready all right okay and agree injector two one go well this has a different spray pattern you can sort of you can sort of seen the other way it's spraying or they were not super interested in that for the moment this woman we're almost there almost yeah almost Hogan's got about 15 mils to go three two one boom that's nineteen seconds from 90 miles as well so that was ten seconds quicker or 30% faster well that would make sense because I have a feeling that the Mirage ones and I know someone will correct me I like high hundreds or low 200s yeah I think the mx-5 ones are similar but maybe they're closer to like 230 240 so as a percentage that's sort of making sense yeah there also may be some discrepancy in the quality of the actual judges in terms of like we haven't controlled them all with the amount of that dullness that's in them alright so stocks to everyone I'm expecting this to be similar to mx-5 because even though this is also from this is also made for an engine twice the size right yeah but there's also more cylinders which means you don't need a bigger injectors you're not I mean because you vote yeah like it's a big turbo four cylinders going to have bigger injectors and then a six generally speaking at least in this case so he's plugged in as well I'm gonna screengrab that's an mx-5 for a buck nineteen so we've got twenty nine nineteen it's all about the nines one yeah the cool thing about this is you can go to get your injected injectors flow tested professionally and I suggest you do it you really into it this is cool little experiment and three two one go wah you can find a spray pattern Wow listen how clean it is the other ones are and this one's this is really new to this one almost there it's pretty messy these get close the bowls are canned that's it that's 17 seconds 17 yeah alright so this is the one I'm interested in this next one I've Dee capped it and it's either going to adjust fire hose in there or it's going to make no difference or it's going to leak or it's going to do something weird we don't know but that's the magic of science yeah and the magic of the random nature of the universe mode D capped here we go clamp em on my excitement levels are fairly high right now mark yeah because again you don't you don't need anything to D cap it you just need a file or a dremel that's that's the beauty of it but then again if you go to D cap your injectors and you mess it up you need new injectors yeah cuz I already missed one up trying to just figure out how to do it so there's that the Captain Jack tur and so potentially just to give this some context if we get the best results from this you're just going to D cap all the injector I'm gonna try to do because at the moment under boost it's not getting our fuel right no well these injectors are way not big enough for what I'm trying to do with the car yeah cool so what we ready okay and three two one go well and stop eight seconds so that was the fastest yet which it should be thus so that at least twice as quick three times as quick as the stock ones that we used it first even more every times so if we if we're going to brown it out very roughly and say that their stock ones are 200 cc or whatever you could take a rough guess and say that's somewhere but around the six hundred seven hundred which is which is what's supposed to happen with WRX inject well three times as fast should mean that it's three times the capacity right is this that how it would work is that optimally it is it is a flow rate so that's how long it took to fly 100 mils know again if you if you want super accurate results go to a flow bench but that's that's interesting isn't it because that's zero investment if you're ready on the injectors and you chop the top off them no you just go to the go to the records and get these for like an ethanol free website around and suru injectors not bad these are really common these ones are in two liters 2.5 s either thirties they're they're cheap the next question is that Marty based on this information what does that actually mean for to sexy well the good thing is because to sex has got that little health tech in it the idea is that I can put any size injectors I want and all I do is go in the software and go 600cc and it adjusts everything is that not like cheating or something I sort of except the only thing I've had to do in my entire car to get it to work I stick an ECU in it that's true and fix a little you know the Gooch you know what else I'm interested in let's have a look at how that the spray pattern fully fire hoses in there that's crazy they may work they may not but I'm tempted to um pastrami and see what happens it's a couple of minutes job just to pull the roller I've also got a spare rail here so what I can do is put on my half load ones in and go dump so see how it goes if it doesn't work take the whole off mill again to just find something else you know maybe fine I think you can use injectors from a turbo an actual answer yes or an actual Evol answer like a real one a real one yeah ok you can use those in like four hundred and 40 CCS finally games oh so I've managed a decap - luckily I bought injectors off a six-cylinder car so I've managed to kill one of them because I did it wrong then the next - I've locked out I've got three more and two of them have to work for this whole set up to work these injectors are only just slightly longer than the stock ones but that's not gonna be a big issue for the rail they should just fit straight in and yeah hopefully it's going to work so the trick with decapping these things is you've got to just take the very top off the injector but not hit the actual pintle you've just got to take the top of this off with a dremel and then the actual little screen just slides off it the screen you can see on an injector like that so you're literally removing this rubber removing this plastic and then cutting away the edges of that screen so you can just flick it off and you're left with something that looks a little bit like that dear cat so here's my spare fuel rail here's my four D capped Subaru injectors which we're taking a wild stab and saying they're somewhere around 600 700 500 who knows either way they're going to go into the rail like that BAM and then I'm going to put the fuel pressure regulator the rising rate one that I've got all the map boost referenced fuel pressure regulator a lot of argument over that one that I'm going to stick into this row and then this rail is going to go onto the cart rearrange some fuel lines give it a boost signal and and set the fuel pressure and then hopefully this will just work so that is an injector and fuel pressure regulator upgrade I'm priming the pump putting pressure on it there's plenty of pressure there and nothing's leaking so I can't actually run it because the elites not program for injectors that legal just flood because it'll be squirting heaps and heaps of petrol in there but assuming that the health checks happy with what I've done decapping them that could be a thing too sexy so there it is what's next one well every good show car is usually for sale we're sticker site yes sticker site every good show car is usually for sale so I thought it would be pertinent to a do you know have a for sale sign up at least every six bit car I've seen in the last kind of 10 years well they usually are at the show with the for sale stickers on the month yeah the best advertising negative yeah and someone's you know someone's gonna buy your lawyer your hard work but now I'm feeling good with my man like it's got injectors like I'm just solving the problems that it had and that was the biggest problem was it just was not going to run you know lively without you know some kind of thing to control the fuel and decent injectors and all that kind of stuff in it which hopefully I mean my decap injectors are a bit of an experiment yeah but I've you know been interested to have a go at so this is the right car for that kind of experiment I think and um Martin come say we've done it spraying off you can see 100 mils down here on the thing yeah yeah it's going to be wash around a bit so we'll just we'll just have to see what happens basically we'll count us down three two one yep so that's got fuel pressure behind it now and this will open the injector now at 100 percent duty cycle which is what this is doing again not completely accurate but because it's not been a little bit it's just blasting through let's it'll give us an indication so alright so this is test one and three two one go I look at it go yeah so you're kind of looking at this line here because where it's spraying it's not that accurate but see the line yeah yeah we want to get that soak on at the bottom of 500 they're getting close which is actually 100 mils right over here so it's almost yeah on this side 100 mill not yet see over here yep 100 mill still a bit more bit more almost almost that's 24 25 and that's it I reckon done yeah well that's 29 seconds so stuck 1 2000 seconds alright right now I was speaking to turbo Yoder about like various injectors and stuff and he said that when they're at a hundred percent duty cycle they don't like that guys want to flatten out a bit and even smaller okay but there's still limitations which is what I'm interested in is when you take the screen off I'm interested to see how much of a flow restriction that is yeah that's that's essentially what we're doing we're just seeing if there's any difference with that so unplug him I'll take a screenshot of that so those 29 seconds and that was the stock Lance or one Dhokla and so on so I'll pour this back into our fuel tank just another container turn that on there so which one next man x5 all right so Moses if you miss your mx-5 Martin a little bit do you yeah I'm very surprised to hear that were not super interested in that for the moment this woman we're almost there almost yeah almost Hogan's got about 15 mils to go three two one boom that's nineteen seconds from 90 miles as well so that was ten seconds quicker or 30% faster well that would make sense because I have a feeling that the Mirage ones and I know someone will correct me I like high hundreds or low 200s yeah I think the mx-5 ones are similar but maybe they're closer to like 230 240 so as a percentage that's sort of making sense yeah there also may be some discrepancy in the quality of the actual judges in terms of like we haven't controlled them all with the amount of that dullness that's in them alright so stocks to everyone I'm expecting this to be similar to mx-5 because even though this is also from this is also made for an engine twice the size right yeah but there's also more cylinders which means you don't need a bigger injectors you're not I mean because you vote yeah like it's a big turbo four cylinders going to have bigger injectors and then a six generally speaking at least in this case so he's plugged in as well I'm gonna screengrab that's an mx-5 for a buck nineteen so we've got twenty nine nineteen it's all about the nines one yeah the cool thing about this is you can go to get your injected injectors flow tested professionally and I suggest you do it you really into it this is cool little experiment and three two one go wah you can find a spray pattern Wow listen how clean it is the other ones are and this one's this is really new to this one almost there it's pretty messy these get close the bowls are canned that's it that's 17 seconds 17 yeah alright so this is the one I'm interested in this next one I've Dee capped it and it's either going to adjust fire hose in there or it's going to make no difference or it's going to leak or it's going to do something weird we don't know but that's the magic of science yeah and the magic of the random nature of the universe mode D capped here we go clamp em on my excitement levels are fairly high right now mark yeah because again you don't you don't need anything to D cap it you just need a file or a dremel that's that's the beauty of it but then again if you go to D cap your injectors and you mess it up you need new injectors yeah cuz I already missed one up trying to just figure out how to do it so there's that the Captain Jack tur and so potentially just to give this some context if we get the best results from this you're just going to D cap all the injector I'm gonna try to do because at the moment under boost it's not getting our fuel right no well these injectors are way not big enough for what I'm trying to do with the car yeah cool so what we ready okay and three two one go well and stop eight seconds so that was the fastest yet which it should be thus so that at least twice as quick three times as quick as the stock ones that we used it first even more every times so if we if we're going to brown it out very roughly and say that their stock ones are 200 cc or whatever you could take a rough guess and say that's somewhere but around the six hundred seven hundred which is which is what's supposed to happen with WRX inject well three times as fast should mean that it's three times the capacity right is this that how it would work is that optimally it is it is a flow rate so that's how long it took to fly 100 mils know again if you if you want super accurate results go to a flow bench but that's that's interesting isn't it because that's zero investment if you're ready on the injectors and you chop the top off them no you just go to the go to the records and get these for like an ethanol free website around and suru injectors not bad these are really common these ones are in two liters 2.5 s either thirties they're they're cheap the next question is that Marty based on this information what does that actually mean for to sexy well the good thing is because to sex has got that little health tech in it the idea is that I can put any size injectors I want and all I do is go in the software and go 600cc and it adjusts everything is that not like cheating or something I sort of except the only thing I've had to do in my entire car to get it to work I stick an ECU in it that's true and fix a little you know the Gooch you know what else I'm interested in let's have a look at how that the spray pattern fully fire hoses in there that's crazy they may work they may not but I'm tempted to um pastrami and see what happens it's a couple of minutes job just to pull the roller I've also got a spare rail here so what I can do is put on my half load ones in and go dump so see how it goes if it doesn't work take the whole off mill again to just find something else you know maybe fine I think you can use injectors from a turbo an actual answer yes or an actual Evol answer like a real one a real one yeah ok you can use those in like four hundred and 40 CCS finally games oh so I've managed a decap - luckily I bought injectors off a six-cylinder car so I've managed to kill one of them because I did it wrong then the next - I've locked out I've got three more and two of them have to work for this whole set up to work these injectors are only just slightly longer than the stock ones but that's not gonna be a big issue for the rail they should just fit straight in and yeah hopefully it's going to work so the trick with decapping these things is you've got to just take the very top off the injector but not hit the actual pintle you've just got to take the top of this off with a dremel and then the actual little screen just slides off it the screen you can see on an injector like that so you're literally removing this rubber removing this plastic and then cutting away the edges of that screen so you can just flick it off and you're left with something that looks a little bit like that dear cat so here's my spare fuel rail here's my four D capped Subaru injectors which we're taking a wild stab and saying they're somewhere around 600 700 500 who knows either way they're going to go into the rail like that BAM and then I'm going to put the fuel pressure regulator the rising rate one that I've got all the map boost referenced fuel pressure regulator a lot of argument over that one that I'm going to stick into this row and then this rail is going to go onto the cart rearrange some fuel lines give it a boost signal and and set the fuel pressure and then hopefully this will just work so that is an injector and fuel pressure regulator upgrade I'm priming the pump putting pressure on it there's plenty of pressure there and nothing's leaking so I can't actually run it because the elites not program for injectors that legal just flood because it'll be squirting heaps and heaps of petrol in there but assuming that the health checks happy with what I've done decapping them that could be a thing too sexy so there it is what's next one well every good show car is usually for sale we're sticker site yes sticker site every good show car is usually for sale so I thought it would be pertinent to a do you know have a for sale sign up at least every six bit car I've seen in the last kind of 10 years well they usually are at the show with the for sale stickers on the month yeah the best advertising negative yeah and someone's you know someone's gonna buy your lawyer your hard work but now I'm feeling good with my man like it's got injectors like I'm just solving the problems that it had and that was the biggest problem was it just was not going to run you know lively without you know some kind of thing to control the fuel and decent injectors and all that kind of stuff in it which hopefully I mean my decap injectors are a bit of an experiment yeah but I've you know been interested to have a go at so this is the right car for that kind of experiment I think and um Martin come say we've done engine swaps we've towed by charge things we've done the world on the e85 supercharged Classic Mini with flex fuel yep we got no idea how about a sticker on there this sticker is just just is it junk or a wee junk oh it's a requestion it's alright look what we got there but they usually look something like that are they I mean it's all about keeping it keeping it real look at you know what I think a 6-bit car that actually makes power and chops Sark's I mean it's actually cool I think I mean you're a big factor believing you're gonna win again and we back to that delusion I thought we've kind of come full circle now I honestly live on straight man that's fine why honestly I honestly don't know that that's that worries me I mean a few people picked up on my face when we first went for it's never worked properly and until it works properly I don't think I'm going to really like it so I'm really looking forward to actually just you know making some power taking it for a drive figure
