Quiet Practice and Meditation
I wanted this to be a quiet practice, I'm trying to be more quiet in my mind, in fact, I recently took a course on Skillshare called "Meditation for Beginners: Dissolving All That You Are". It's actually a very short little class which is great for me just a little chunk and reminder of what meditation is. It's hosted by Ken Walls and just kind of walks you through a simple practice of getting into the meditative state. Now I know a lot of people are like "meditation, meditation" but it's really important for me especially in this very highly stimulated environment that I live in in terms of just social media and managing videos and all that I feel like I need to be quiet more so I am working on it.

Polishing the Dodo
After you do the initial shaping, you're gonna let the ball dry a little bit without a plastic bag for about another hour, and you'll feel that the surface will be harder. Then you're just going to continue with your jar shape and shaping. In the Nino project, he calls this part the core, then he layers subsequent layers of dry clay by dipping the ball in water and then dusting it with dry clay and then building up layers. I tried that technique but it didn't really work for me; it left a surface that ended up being more pitted rather than being smooth.
So basically what we're doing with this jar is we're perfecting the surface, getting around sphere, but we're also burnishing and burnishing look! It's already getting shiny and burnishing means that we're taking the surface and we're compressing it and using friction to polish it. And at this state, the ball is still cold; so there's moisture in it but it's not nearly as wet as the prior steps. So it's kind of dusty here and we just rub it and it starts to burnish the surface isn't that beautiful? Look how shiny it's getting! This was such a great meditative process for me, and I notice when my mind would kind of slip and I would be like "enter some kind of a zone of gossip" if I was started thinking about other people, my job would kind of catch and then I would end up making a divot or a dent in my ball.
And I would be like "Garces, like okay focus focus on the process of polishing this ball; do not let your mind drift into things that are not necessary focus on polishing the ball. Look at what this ball is look at its imperfections look at its perfection and just be." Once you get to the step where it's getting pretty shiny, you can kind of finish things off with some paste wax. You can use this on furniture and leather and stuff, and just use the tiniest little amount and then again use the jar to kind of burnish it and work that wax into the surface of the dodo.
The Aluminum Ball Challenge
Now that I've had some success with the Dodo Dango, it begs to be asked should I tackle the aluminum ball and I'm leaning towards yes. But do let me know what you think in comments down below, and if you've tried this or if you've tried the aluminum ball challenge, let me know thank you guys so much for watching! I hope you guys will attempt this and try to be more mindful in your practice whatever it may be. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso today's Lanice look for some local mud this is my little dongle project I want to make some beautiful spheres of mud I understand that clay deposits are found near streams where the water has washed away a lot of sediment and this looks like this might fit the bill so under these sandy layers right here Oh perfect right here right here look at this welcome back my beautiful lovelies it's Emmy today's video is sponsored by Skillshare an online learning community that offers over 26,000 different courses in subjects like design videography business be one of the first 500 people to sign up with a link down below to receive two months of Skillshare absolutely freak after that it's about ten dollars a month big thanks to skill share for sponsoring this video now let's take our clay and make Donald uncle so what is Dada dango if we literally translate it from Japanese it means mud dumpling how stinking cute is that so I first learned about dildo dango making in a great big story video I will put the link in the description box down below and it is the process and the craft of taking a ball of mud or clay and shaping it into a perfect sphere and then polishing it until it has a gleaming glassy glass-like surface that's it it's just playing with a ball of mud I love that I love the simplicity I love the humility the humbleness of the material everything says Emmy make this after watch that great big story video I went onto YouTube which is a beautiful place in terms of wanting to learn about anything and I just binge on anything dorodango as always I put all those links down in the description in case you're interested I'm gonna base my technique loosely on the Neto project video that I watched again put the link down below so after we collected our clay and we also collected some sand as well we're going to use one part clay and one part sand and then we're also going to include a few pinches of dried grass or straw my sons and I took scissors and cut the straw into tiny little pieces and this is gonna help keep the dodo dongil together it's gonna offer some strength and then we're gonna add about a half part of water now you're gonna have to make adjustments with the amount of water depending on how wet your clay is in the nido project he uses dry clay so of course you're probably going to be using more water so you're gonna just have to play around with it mix this really well make sure you do this in a large container so you have lots of room to do so don't want it to be too wet otherwise you have to wait a long time for the water to evaporate and you don't want it to be too dry otherwise it'll just crumble apart so just get a ball of mud that feels good in your hands and then just start shaping it using your hand and kind of like a cupping motion to shape it into a sphere now we're going to set this aside and we have to let the ball dry out a little bit before we can start really shaping it so after a couple hours we're now ready to start getting the ball perfectly spherical and how we do that it's really simple you just use a series of jars like this any old jars that you can find I found that once I had a little bit wider mouth we're really good for finishing work really good for polishing these thinner ones were good for initial kind of shaping now this was a really amazing process because you took something that looks like this you know a mud ball not all that round and perfect and by simply rotating it on the mouth of the jar it starts to shape it into a perfect sphere the surface starts to get more burnished as you can hear in the beginning there's a kind of sandy or gritty sound and as the surface gets more and more polished that sound disappears a beautiful transformative process that was very quiet and meditative my boys had a great time doing this because they could see the transformation happening before their eyes so this whole process of shaping and polishing the dodo dango takes quite a while and while we're doing that let me tell you a little bit more about Skillshare so Skillshare is a wonderful place if you want to take your creativity and take your career to the next level it has everything you need to develop your skills to do the things that you want to do with your life and reach your goals so for example while making my little dango I felt like it was a perfect opportunity to multitask I could watch a show I could listen to a podcast while rubbing the sphere but instead I said I wanted this to be a quiet practice
