Droid Xyboard 8.2 Unboxing & Hands On
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up everyone john retton here from techno buffalo here with an unboxing of the zoom 2 i mean droid zyborg this is the 8.2 inch model also comes in a 10.1 inch version let's go ahead dig in and see if the zyborg leaves the zoom name and reputation behind and turns over a new leaf for droid branded tablets all right so here is the zybord 8.2 from a price standpoint it's going to run you either 430 or 530 with a 2-year contract depending on whether you get the 16 or 32 gigabyte version and it's going to translate to 600 or 700 if you decide to go without a contract so we've got that droid eye glaring at you judging you and making all kinds of snap calls on you personally it may hunt your dreams we've got the typical silver droid box with the sleeve so there's a better look at sauron's eye droid zyborg on the box some brandon motorola and verizon all around it 4g lte as well let's go ahead and pull off the top which i always feel naughty saying and there is the zybord 8.2 let's go ahead and pull this out first thing you'll notice is a very different design than we've seen on other tablets got the sort of clipped off edges presumably that was to avoid any sort of a legal action from perhaps apple or the ire of apple that samsung faced with their galaxy tab although the back you clearly wouldn't confuse this with any other tablet other than a zyborg model but we'll talk about this guy in just a second let's see what else we're going to get in the box 4g lte sim card judging by the fingerprints on the device when i opened it looks like the pr folks who sent this to us put in the lte sim card and they did so you're also going to get a start here guide so this is where you would start how to set up email and all that kind of stuff uh this is running honeycomb we'll go through all the specs in just a moment consumer information we've got a charging and sync cables this is the micro usb variety got a lot more books a lot more books in here so you can see what those are yay and we've got a charging brick which awesomely enough is micro usb it's nothing proprietary here so if you've got another micro usb charging brick or cable uh it'll work so that's quite nice and motorola did that let's go ahead and push all that stuff off to the side take a look at the zyborg itself and see if i can turn it on finder the power button is and i'll walk you through the specs and tell you oh it's already turned on uh what else you can expect from your droid zyborg all right so we've got the zyborg sufficiently turned on let's go ahead and run through the specs of what this guy's got uh it is running android 3.2 so that is honeycomb presumably it'll be getting a taste of ice cream sandwich sometime next year the motorola hasn't given a solid date on that from dimension standpoint it's 8.5 inches by 5.47 inches by very slender 0.35 inches definitely is a thin tablet weighs 13.62 ounces it has a very responsive accelerometer as we saw right there the screen 8.2 inches as that 8.2 inch name would indicate it's a 1280 by 800 resolution and that is a tft display it's got a 3960 milliamp hour battery being powered by a dual core 1.2 gigahertz ti omat processor that's the 4430 if you're keeping track at home it's got a giga ram 16 or 32 gig configurations it's got some cameras on it flip this guy on its back and take a look at the main one which lives right there it has a five megapixel shooter that can shoot 720p video and on the front it's got a 1.3 megapixel sensor lives right there uh that can also shoot some video and it's running on verizon's lte network all right so let's take a look at the tablet itself uh it is running honeycomb and there's motorola branding up top and then the camera right in the middle and i'm mentioning that because when you have the branding there this is generally a preferred orientation that the manufacturer thinks you're going to do most of your work in uh so this is obviously the portrait orientation so you can decide however you want to use it most but the camera right there will be centered on the top it does have an interesting form factor as i mentioned with those sort of clipped off edges but it feels very nice in the hand the back appears to be made out of some sort of metal probably aluminum or aluminium depending on where you are the button configurations have been interesting though they're kind of recessed here in the device not even sure you can even see that on camera but that is where the power button lives right there that's where the volume up and down are so when you're holding the tablet your right hand is presumably right there where the power and lock button is going to be and then right below where the volume rocker is going to be a little bit strange and probably take a while to get used to but not too bad i've got the soft touch rubber on the outside tablet feels really nice in the hand it feels extremely light as you'd expect from a tablet of this size all right so let's walk around let me go and zoom in a little bit more take a look at some of the apps that you're going to get on your zyboard all right so let's go ahead and jump into those you can see some motorola skinning here that app store is a bit different it's going to come pre-loaded with kindle all kinds of verizon business you can see there verizon apps my verizon a lot of other verizon stuff google music here is pre-loaded google search obviously calendar google mail slingbox pre-loaded kind of neat some other verizon goodies thrown in here to boot as well broken down by categories i'm not sure what those are like they're just pretty pictures that show up there i'm sure i'll play with it and see figure out exactly what it is that they mean so go ahead and go back home let's take a look at some of the widgets that this guy is going to come packing since this is not ice cream sandwich you can still access the widgets by long pressing so you've got your accuweather which is great widget all of your usual honeycomb ones that we've seen in the past see if we got any specific ones here that motorola's added uh nothing really uh so pretty standard uh in stock widgets here it looks like they let android be android uh in a lot of ways um so let me go ahead and bring in another tablet for size comparisons all right so here is the galaxy tab 8.9 go ahead and stack these guys on top you can see the difference just a little bit on the smaller side but appears definitely be on the thinner side let's bring in a larger 9.7 inch tablet you might know what it is you might not here is the ipad 2. go ahead and push samsung's which i don't think i powered on offering to the side and we'll take a look at this with the ipad 2 and you can see the difference especially in the orientation the 4.3 versus the 16.9 orientation so there are those two uh this is the droid zyborg it's available now from verizon wireless rocking some lte uh we'll have an unboxing coming up of its larger 10 inch brother i'm john rettinger from technobuffalo and i will see you in the next video bye all right so actually before i sign off there are a couple other things of note that i wanted to share with you on the top of the tablet you've got your 3.5 millimeter headset jack and you've got some speaker grilles living right there on the left hand side um there's nothing on the right hand side there is those little recessed power and lock buttons on the bottom that's where your lte sim card is going to live under that little drawer probably not much of a need to pull that out you do have hdmi out and then there's your micro usb charging and then you've got another speaker grille living there at the bottom all right so now this is really john rettinger signing out be sure to check us out at technobuffalo.com for all your tech news see you guys next video bye youwhat's up everyone john retton here from techno buffalo here with an unboxing
