**The Refresh Cycle: A Guide to Avoiding Buyer's Regret**
The refresh cycle is a complex and often frustrating aspect of technology, particularly when it comes to computer hardware. Manufacturers release new products on a regular basis, but don't always inform consumers about upcoming updates. This can lead to a difficult decision-making process for buyers, who may feel pressured into purchasing the latest model without fully understanding its limitations.
**Why Manufacturers Don't Want You to Know**
Manufacturers have a vested interest in keeping this information under wraps. By not informing consumers about upcoming product releases, they are able to sell their existing stock at a higher price. This strategy is effective, as it encourages buyers to purchase the latest model without considering the potential for future updates. As a result, consumers may end up with outdated products that could have been upgraded or replaced more recently.
**The Example of the GTX 780**
Consider the example of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, which was released in early June 2014. At the time, there were no eight series cards available on the market. However, it's likely that a new model would be released soon after its release date. If a consumer purchased a high-end GTX 780 card and later found out about the upcoming eight series models, they may feel regretful for not waiting and saving their money. This is a common scenario in the tech industry, where buyers often rush into decisions without considering the potential for future updates.
**Estimating When to Buy**
So, how can consumers make informed decisions when it comes to purchasing new technology? The key is to estimate when the next update will be released and whether or not it's worth waiting. This requires some consideration of the product in question and an assessment of whether the buyer would be annoyed if they waited a month or so for the updated model. For more expensive components like processors or graphics cards, buyers may want to wait for the latest version to ensure they're getting the most up-to-date technology.
**The Importance of Patience**
Don't rush into decisions when it comes to buying new technology. Take the time to research and compare different models, considering factors like performance, price, and upcoming updates. If a buyer can afford to wait, doing so may be the best decision. On the other hand, if a consumer is on a tight budget or needs a new product ASAP, they should be more willing to make a purchase without worrying about future updates.
**The Refresh Cycle Affects Every Piece of Technology**
The refresh cycle isn't limited to just computer hardware; it applies to every piece of technology. Whether you're looking at a tablet, camera lens, or other device, there will always be some new version coming out eventually. The key is to stay informed and make educated decisions about when to buy.
**Conclusion**
In conclusion, the refresh cycle can be a complex and frustrating aspect of technology. However, by taking the time to research and compare different models, consumers can make informed decisions that avoid buyer's regret. Whether you're in the market for a new computer, graphics card, or other device, remember to estimate when the next update will be released and whether it's worth waiting. With patience and careful consideration, you can find the best technology for your needs and avoid costly mistakes.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys and welcome to my video this video is all about choosing computer parts but choosing them at the right time because the last thing you want to do is go out and buy something to find that it's replaced by something even better a week or a month later down the line so choosing parts is very important but getting them at the right time is critical but just when is the right time to actually buy a product you've got it in your basket when is the right time to go right i'm gonna buy this and install it in your machine generally speaking computer parts start out quite expensive and then they get cheaper throughout their lifetime if you look at the graphics card the gtx 780 on release it was about 550 pounds now you can get it for under 400 pounds so surely then now is a great time to go out and buy a gtx 780 well not necessarily when you want to buy a new product and when that product is expensive you put loads of research and you put many hours into choosing the right one however one thing is always often overlooked and that is the product refresh cycle now the product refresh cycle is pretty easy to understand it's simply a set of products that then replace another set of older products this means that the older set of products will be cheaper for you to buy after the new ones are released or of course you can get the new ones and they will be better now a product refresh cycle can be fairly straightforward to follow nvidia for instance they often unveil their latest graphics cards in about the summer time and they do this and nearly so every year however some products aren't quite as straightforward things like canon for example you don't really know when they're going to unveil their latest cameras but it pretty much just varies depending on the product one of the reasons this refresh cycle can be fairly difficult to follow is because the manufacturers don't want you to know it all the time why would they want you to they have a large amount of products that they've made at a fairly small manufacturing cost and if they can make more money our consumers then they're going to want to do that and by not telling you when the better products are going to be you're going to get the older products and then you know maybe i should upgrade and then you spend even more money it's about selling the stock off at the highest possible price so back to that example of the gtx 780 so you went out on board one today and today being early june 2014 there aren't currently any eight series cards out there but there may well be in a week or a month's time and if you've gone out and spent all this money on one of the top of the range products and it becomes not so top of the range because there are new products that you could have got for a similar price you are going to be pretty annoyed which is why you shouldn't ever rush into a decision and you should look and see if you're making the right choice now this refresh cycle actually affects every piece of technology it doesn't matter what you buy if it's a tablet a computer a camera lens whatever it is is going to get outdated someday so the trick is you've got to try and estimate when the day is that it's going to be outdated so when actually is the right time to buy a new part well you need to ask yourself one simple question if a new version of what i'm buying came out in a month or so would i be annoyed to the point where i wish i have waited and saved my money for that if the product in question was something like a power supply then the answer is probably going to be no you're not really that fast if there's a new power supply coming out but if it's a more expensive more valuable pit of your machine so so like your processor or your graphics card then the answer may well be yes and if the answer is yes then it's pretty simple don't rush into it don't buy the product if you think you might regret your decision then you may well end up regretting your decision so it's probably the time to wait of course if you're buying like a whole new machine and you don't actually have anything to work off and time is actually of the essence then maybe you know this doesn't really count but generally speaking if you want to buy a new part of your computer or any sort of part be from any any piece of technology then you should always bear in mind the refresh cycle make an estimated guess to when the new product is going to come out and replace the one you're looking at and if it does come out of that time is it worth waiting and if you don't wait would you be annoyed if it came out as i touched on earlier as long as you don't rush into decisions then i think you're going to be okay i myself have made mistakes where i've rushed into a decision only to be unhappy with it later and you do learn the hard way but if you don't learn in the first place and you always take these procedures to make sure that you're not gonna have any regrets then that's just as good as well and that pretty much wraps up this video thank you very much for watching if you've ever had any regrets then please leave a comment below and let people know including myself i'm very interested in the regrets that you've had when it comes to computers and what you should and wish you had done differently if you've had no regrets in watching this video then please give it a like and let other people know that it is a video worth watching if you've had loads of regrets and once again you've clicked on a youtube link that you wish
