It's Friday, June 9th, and while it is indeed Friday, many in the tech world have their eyes on next week's E3, which is known as the big annual video game Fiesta. The show officially runs from next Tuesday to Thursday, but the action really begins this weekend with several events taking place on Mixer Sunday.
This weekend marks a critical time for the industry as game producers and hardware makers deal with a slate of new technologies, including 4K gaming, virtual reality, augmented reality, and pitched warfare between consoles from various tech giants. Digital Trends (DT) has a full crew on the scene, and we're looking forward to bringing you some big reveals and hands-on impressions from the show. Look for our complete coverage presented by Duracell at the link.
Tim Cook and his crew gave us a quick look at Mac OS High Sierra earlier this week at WWDC, but now we've got our own take on the latest update to the operating system. Suffice to say, High Sierra is an evolutionary update to regular Sierra, with some tweaks to Siri, the Photos app, and other bits. However, the real news is taking place under the hood once you update the OS.
Once you update the OS, we'll begin converting all your files to a more future-proof PFS format. This change should save some space and allow quicker access to your files, along with better encryption. Our resident Mac fan, Jace Wagner, spent a few sleepless nights getting lost in his new operating system but managed to somehow survive and make a video about what he found. Check out his hands-on review at the link.
As many tech folks obsess over Elon Musk's Tesla electric cars, we just got through thoroughly abusing testing the latest version of Tesla's sort of minivan SUV, the Model X. Yes, it throws crazy falcon doors that are kind of crazy and smart in a good way. However, there's a lot more to it than the doors. The windshield goes up over your head, it has a giant touchscreen in the center, the doors open at your command, and it has a biohazard air filtration system in case of a zombie gas attack. Oh, and ludicrous mode in case you feel like humbling that driver next to you in the Ferrari. Naturally, all that techy goodness doesn't come cheap.
Our test unit rang in at $162,000, so hit the link to see what you get for all that dosh. That's all for DT Daily today. Be sure to check out our entertainment podcast Between The Streams live at 2 p.m. today, where we're going to be talking about what new cinematic universes are on the horizon.
Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next week.
