Samsung Galaxy S5 Wireless Charging - Everything you need to know!

Wirelessly Charging Your Galaxy S5: A Comprehensive Guide

As we continue to explore the world of wireless charging, today we're going to delve into one of the most popular options for those looking to upgrade their Galaxy S5 experience. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the best ways to wirelessly charge your device and what you need to know along the way.

First up is the $70 SVW cover case. This leather flip cover case is one of the better designs that I've used, with genuine leather feeling like it's been stitched deep into the case. The window is made out of very tough scratch-resistant plastic, and the cutouts are precise and actually look really good overall. The case itself looks elegant and feels great in your hand, making it a high-quality option that almost justifies the steep price tag. However, the main reason I'm talking about this case today is because it has built-in wireless charging capabilities.

To install the case, you'll need to remove the back plate of your S5 and place the metal contacts on the back of your phone. Once that's done, press the case down when your phone screen is powered on and the case is closed. This will give you a shortened version of your lock screen with quick access to features like clock, weather, notifications, and even music player control all through your phone's case. It's really cool to be able to interact with your phone in such an intuitive way.

However, I do find myself going back to my notification bar to see what notifications I have available when using the case. Apparently it seems that you're only allowed to flip between screens and access widgets that are actually already on the lock screen. After a few weeks of use, I'm not sure if the flap will ever break in all the way but it does automatically come open sometimes even when you're not interacting with it. It's worth noting that Samsung's software doesn't fully recognize this case as being secure, resulting in messages about checking the back casing even though my case is fully secured.

As an alternative to the SVW cover case, Samsung also offers the S charger cover inductive type case which can be purchased on their website for $30. This case snaps onto the back of your device just like the standard s5b and looks similar but actually feels more plastic than rubbery than expected at first glance. There is a small caveat to consider when adding new slim cases, as they no longer fit properly on some devices. The case securely puts on the wireless charger however, which can be charged via the built-in charging pads.

The charging pads themselves are starting to become more and more popular over the last few years. They're essentially small metal prongs that connect to the metal connectors on the back of your phone to achieve wireless charging. I've used a few of these in the past and have to say they don't work as well as you'd expect, however one company did it right and this is the Tilt viewmate which may be more expensive than the ones found for $5 on eBay but truly gets what you pay for. To install it simply stick it on your battery and connect the connectors before closing the case making sure to apply downward pressure to ensure a solid connection from less than $25.

Finally, I want to mention that adding wireless functionality without any extra bulk or case is quite awesome in my opinion. It does not add any extra bulk as other cases work just fine with it actually doing wireless charging through the case.

In conclusion hopefully you have a better understanding of how to wirelessly charge your Galaxy S5 by now and its interesting to know that Samsung doesn't include this feature on their device but they do offer accessories for purchase.
