The Skoda Kodiaq: A Great All-Round Seven-Seater SUV?
Going to start off in town now, the first thing that you notice is that the suspension is a little bit firmer than you imagine for a big seven-seater SUV. So, you do feel the bumps a little bit more than say if you're in a Volkswagen Tiguan. However, it's not terrible and you can get adaptive dampers which have a comfort mode that does slacken things off a bit though. Once again, still not quite as relaxing as the Volkswagen.
What's our problem though is the visibility? Yeah, great view for you! Got big door mirrors, the view out the back window even though it's so far away from you is still quite good also. The steering it's nice and light. Yeah, it's still precise at the same time. This one is the automatic and if you spend a lot of time driving in town, it is quite good if you don't have to mess around changing gears yourself but if you do have the manual, the actual shift on it is pretty positive and the clutch is nicely weighted and the brakes are well judged as well so some cars brake especially with big SUVs it can feel a little bit kind of nothing nothing then all of a sudden the brakes on this are nice and progressive so you don't end up looking like a novice driver when you're just like trying to like shunt along in traffic.
One last thing to mention while driving in town is of course the maneuverability. So, the turning circle on this seven-seater Kodiaq is 11.6 meters which is ever so slightly better than the Volkswagen Tiguan all Space but can I make it round this mini roundabout you know if I can in a seven-seater SUV that's pretty no wait I'm in an SUV I should be able to go up a car I'm going to go up a Coke because I'm in an SUV before my driving test I would just have failed but I'm not I'm an SUV driver and if you've ever been on a school run and you've seen people turn up to the school gates and these they'll pop up curbs and do whatever they want to do really don't they the Kodiaq is pretty good when you get out onto faster roads and on the motorway so it's reasonably quiet to travel in. You do get a bit of wind noise from those big door mirrors but other than that it's fine. The seats are comfy and supportive so you don't feel really tired and exhausted after a long stint behind the wheel.
Now, if you are doing lots of miles I'll probably go for one of the diesels however this two-liter turbo petrol is averaging 35 miles per gallon which isn't awful really when you get on twisted roads the Kodiaq is surprisingly good actually. The payoff of that slightly firmer than you imagine suspension means that it doesn't really lean much in the bends and it just kind of stays quite upright. It's got good levels of grip as well so even if you go quite quickly into a corner you don't feel like you're just gonna wash wide it will go round and if you've got the four-wheel drive version you can put the power down nicely when you're coming out of a corner as well because the front wheels start to slip then the rear ones will provide some added drive from the back end.
Now even though you can get a four-wheel drive version of this car it's not as good off-road as something like a Land Rover Discovery Sport. Now if you want to see my full in-depth video review of that car click on the pop-out button up there to watch the video. This two-liter turbocharged petrol version of the Skoda Kodiaq with four-wheel drive and the automatic gearbox should do 60 in 7.8 seconds but what is the reality I'm going to find out now it sort of has launch control which is weird in a seven-seater SUV that was a very slow takeoff though then he went for it oh but still actually despite being slightly hesitant away from the line 7.6 seconds in this that's good I'll take that so then what's my final verdict on the Skoda Kodiaq?
Actually, avoid it should you consider it should you shortlist it or should you just go right ahead and buy it well, I reckon you should avoid the Kodiaq but only if you want a plug-in hybrid because you can't get one with this car for everyone else though you should go right ahead and buy this Skoda because it's a great all-round seven-seat family SUV.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the skoda kodiaq and it's a little bit like ed sheeran you see it's been around for a while now but it still seems quite fresh and it's hugely popular and just like ed this has changed its look slightly so it's got rid of his beard and this has had some minor tweaks to the exterior interior design i'm going to talk you through those in this video i'm also going to see how practical this car is take it for a drive and of course i'm going to launch it see how quick it is from naught to 60 miles an hour because i'm mike watson and you're watching car wow buying a new car then head to car wow and my team will help you find your next car at a fair price car wow your one-stop car buying comparison site let's start this video by talking about the design of the skoda kodiak you're probably really familiar with this car already so it's a neat and tidy looking family suv but the changes they've made to it are quite hard to spot so there's a redesigned rear bumper and wait a minute what do we have here i'm going to use my fire safety stick of truth to illustrate these horrendous fake exhausts that's awful another change i've made is this like a skoda badge big across the back and you now have redesigned tail lights which have scrolling indicators scroll there's the changes to the back did you notice them here's a before and after anyway moving down the side so well sizes start at 18 inches which will be too small going to these 20s the designs have changed compared to the pre-facelift car oh look you've got your roof bars there they're in black satin on this car but you can get them in silver contrasting door mirrors this is the sport line so it's got some sportier bits and pieces on it such as the live front bumper so it's got like air intakes and stuff like that excuse the train going past we're in the middle of london they've also tweaked the front grille and bumper on all models and here's another before and after it's not obvious is it just ever so slightly different like the shapes of the headlights they're a little bit more curvaceous now and all but the entry-level car now comes with matrix leds as standard so they blank out part of their beam so you don't dazzle oncoming drivers here on the inside the skoda kodiak feels like pretty good value for money when you consider that the range kicks off at 30 000 pounds though you can save an average of 2 200 pounds off of kodiak through car work now if you want to see how much money you can save on whatever car you're thinking you're buying click on the pop-up banner they'll find the link in the description below to go to carway you can now also sell your current car through car wow just have to upload some photos give a brief description and our dealers will bid on your car to make sure you get a great price for it and if you want to do that later date just simply google whammy car wow and we will wow you so am i wowed by this interior well you know i do kind of like it like the stitching on the dash it's squidgy as well feels expensive in fact all the materials are quite soft and yielding which is nice and it feels well screwed together the layout is simple as well so you don't have to operate the climate controls through the infotainment screen you've got physical buttons there which is easier to use when you're driving you get two sizes of screen an eight inch one and this nine inch and it's fairly responsive and bright and thankfully it's the older vw group system the latest one is a bit rubbish to use i prefer this comes with apple carplay which is wireless and android auto which is actually wired only though i prefer the wired system anyway like to be wired anyway you don't get digital dars as standard on all models which is a bit of a shame any of the top spec models but you can specify them as an optional extra and you can change through different views very very easily lots of information is quite bright and easy to read should really be standard though in terms of the driving position it's good there's lots of adjustment in the steering wheel and the seats you can jack them up quite high so even if you're short you can get a good view over that bonnet and the seats themselves are nice and comfortable now the only changes really that skoda has made to this interior some redesigned steering wheels some different seat coverings and you can now get a canton sound system as for practicality in here so you've got some storage under there with oh where is it there's my phone you can fit even a big bulky samsung galaxy fold in there and it's got wireless charging pad you've got usbc there 12 volt socket the glove box it's only an average size there is some more storage here and under here you have plenty of storage plus the door bins are big and they're lined with felt so even if you're carrying something like a metal flask it won't rattle about in there too much at all and finally you even have a place for your sunglasses there which is padded so you won't scratch the lid so you won't scratch the lenses here in the back of the skoda kodiak there is loads of room plenty of knee room plenty of headroom plenty of foot space and because these seats are mounted quite high you can really stretch out underneath them like that and if you need to carry three people at once not too much of a problem big middle seat here and even though there is a hump in the floor it's quite narrow so there is enough room for everyone's feet obviously you'd rather be sitting on the outer seats but it's okay here now if there's not sat here of course you can use the armrest so it's annoying that the cup holders are exposed because you just put your arms in them you do have through loading where's the button there's the button there look through loading here if you need it and ice fix anchor points there that are really really easy to get to there's also some pockets there on the seat backs you've got 12 volt socket there though there's no usb ports it's very good anyway door bins are big and the liner felt yet again here and look this car has the blinds blinds yeah lovely very good oh i want to show you this as well look you can slide the seats forwards and backwards if you need more boot space or more space for the people in the rear and you can recline as well if you really want to annoy them but what i'm going to do now is check out the space in the rear i'm going to see what it's like when i have this middle row in a position which is reasonably comfy could i get away with that yeah i could travel like that let's see if there's enough room for me in the rear most rope oh i'll just hit it on there all this to get in now in the entry-level version of the skoda codec you don't have a rear-most row you only have two rows of seats let me put that back to where it was is that is that it is that it that's annoying look it doesn't go back exactly to where you had it so i'm gonna have to try and get this right there we go all right let me just put this down so you can see what the heck is going on even with this seat in a bearable position for me sat there in the middle row it's dead tight back here let my knees are pressed up against the seat back headroom is limited my head is touching the roof actually i could do short distances back here and i think small kids would be fine but really if you want to carry people in the third row of an suv in more comfort you're going to need something like a hyundai santa fe and if you want to see my full in-depth video review of that car click on the pop-up banner up there follow the link in the description below now let's check out the kodiak's boot so one of the things i like about this car is the fact that even when you've got seven seats in place you have a decent boot so the capacity here is 270 liters which is about 100 liters more than you have with a kia sorento or a peugeot 5008 in their seven seater configuration in fact it's not for off a ford fiesta's boot capacity which is 311. look i can even fit my go cycle electric bike in there you wouldn't be able to do that with the peugeot nor the kia obviously if you want more space you fall down these rear seats like that it's quite easy to do by putting the levers on the top and then you have 765 liters however that's not quite as good as the peugeot 5008 nokia sorrento when they're in five-seat mode they have over 800 liters of capacity so some you win some you lose and i'm about to lose again because i i need to fold down all of these seats so i have to reach in i can just about do it from here no i can't i'm gonna have to go round because that button actually just reclines it to get into the back you need to pull this other one down there oh no i'm messing about come on there we go yeah bear with me i'm actually making this look harder than it is but i guess i'm making a point that while you have things like hooks and 12 volt sockets and a little bit of extra storage under here the fact that you don't have any levers in the back to fold the seats down is a bit annoying and that brings up to five other annoying things about the kia sorrento no the skoda kodiak this has to be the most pointless place for a starter button because you might as well just have the normal ignition barrel and then you can just put your key in there and it gives you some way to keep your key whereas now i've got to store this elsewhere stupid the automatic gearbox can feel a little bit jerky when you're a very slow maneuvering speeds like oh it's hard to pull it away smoothly especially that especially in reverse it's not as good as a normal torque converter auto which just smoothly causes the car to pull away whereas this is just yeah it's the dual clutch thing smaller people may struggle to reach this button to lower the tailgate how do i know that well one of the guys on my team his wife is only five foot tall and she can't reach this where she can actually reach the boot button on a hyundai tucson so she you know you have to use the key not great hardship but if you left the key in the car it's a bit of a faff right the integrated headrests on these sportline seats are quite wide so if you sat behind them it's hard to pee around to see at the windscreen which if you get carsick like me it's yeah it's a bit of a pain or if you've got small children it gives them another excuse to be on that ipad for longer which isn't great for their growing brains there aren't any proper cup holders in this car the only ones who get a part of this multi-functional unit here which has slots for what i think is credit cards coins i think that is for your key which i had to create obviously because they prevented you from putting it in the ignition barrel and yeah some other functions on it which i'm not sure exactly what they do but look at this what these cupholders don't do well is hold a bowl see look at that if you accelerate that's going everywhere and they're not big enough to fit a flask brilliant anyway that brings on to five good things about the skoda kodiaq look you can get a little thin also known as a trash can to those in the united states of speaking wrongly it's quite cool so if you've got like slightly tissues or bits and pieces you don't want cluttering up your door bin and swung the lovely felt lining you can use that you can fit the load cover underneath this fourth floor which means that i don't have to eat it look at that of cut that up that was supposed to be really smooth and like elegant but you get the idea have a look at this oh you've got a secondary glove box yet more places to store water bottles yeah i love a good water bottle me and probably part of the reason why i'm always having to go for pierce if you park in a tight space and you've got kids there's a risk they'll do this look it didn't actually matter because you can get this car with these special door edge protectors which pop out when you open the door to protect them should someone open the door in a tight space i don't know what it does for the car that you just smashed into but at least your car will be fine right finally the skoda's simply clever features which i'll quickly run through now so there's a holder for your parking ticket or in this case a vaccination certificate an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap a little drawer in the front passenger seat for yet more water storage a little inbuilt funnel on the top of the windscreen washer fluid filler so you can't miss it or maybe you can and last but not least there is an umbrella in the door just like on a rolls-royce now let's talk about the engines but first thing i want to show you is this look you have lovely premium feeling gastruts holding at the bonnet anyway engines there's three petrols a 1.5 with 150 horsepower a 2 liter with 190 horsepower which is what this car has and another 2 liter in the vrs which has 245 horsepower then there's two d cells both two liter one with 150 horsepower another with 200 horsepower now depending on which model you go for you can either have the car with front wheel drive or wheel drive a manual or an automatic gearbox but which one should you go for which is the best kodiaq well i'm going to configure my ideal kodiaq on the car wow configurator that's it configured if you want to see which i think is the best version of this car and the saving you can get on it through car wide click on the pop-up button up there i'll find the link in the description below now excited to see what the skoda kodak is like to drive i'm going to start off in town now the first thing that you notice is that the suspension is a little bit firmer than you imagine for a of the windscreen washer fluid filler so you can't miss it or maybe you can and last but not least there is an umbrella in the door just like on a rolls-royce now let's talk about the engines but first thing i want to show you is this look you have lovely premium feeling gastruts holding at the bonnet anyway engines there's three petrols a 1.5 with 150 horsepower a 2 liter with 190 horsepower which is what this car has and another 2 liter in the vrs which has 245 horsepower then there's two d cells both two liter one with 150 horsepower another with 200 horsepower now depending on which model you go for you can either have the car with front wheel drive or wheel drive a manual or an automatic gearbox but which one should you go for which is the best kodiaq well i'm going to configure my ideal kodiaq on the car wow configurator that's it configured if you want to see which i think is the best version of this car and the saving you can get on it through car wide click on the pop-up button up there i'll find the link in the description below now excited to see what the skoda kodak is like to drive i'm going to start off in town now the first thing that you notice is that the suspension is a little bit firmer than you imagine for a big seven seater suv so you do feel the bumps a little bit more than say if you're in a volkswagen tiguan however it's not terrible and you can get adaptive dampers which have a comfort mode which do slacken things off a bit though once again still not quite as relaxing as the volkswagen what's our problem though is the visibility yeah great view for you got big door mirrors the view out the back window even though it's so far away from you is still quite good also the steering it's nice and light yeah it's still precise at the same time this one is the automatic and if you spend a lot of time driving in town it is quite good if you don't have to mess around changing gears yourself but if you do have the manual the actual shift on it is pretty positive and the clutch is nicely weighted and the brakes are well judged as well so some cars break especially with big suvs it can feel a little bit kind of nothing nothing then all of a sudden the brakes on this are nice and progressive so you don't end up looking like a novice driver when you're just like trying to like shunt along in traffic one last thing to mention while driving in town is of course the maneuverability so the turning circle on this seven seater kodiak is 11.6 meters which is ever so slightly better than the volkswagen tiguan all space but can i make it round this mini roundabout you know if i can in a seven seater suv that's pretty no wait i'm in an suv i should be able to go up a car i'm going to go up a coke because i'm in an suv before my driving test i would just have failed but i'm not i'm an suv driver and if you've ever been on a school run and you've seen people turn up to the school gates and these they'll pop up curbs and do whatever they want to do really don't they the kodiak is pretty good when you get out onto faster roads and on the motorway so it's reasonably quiet to travel in you do get a bit of wind noise from those big door mirrors but other than that it's fine the seats are comfy and supportive so you don't feel really tired and exhausted after a long stint behind the wheel now if you are doing lots of miles i'll probably go for one of the diesels however this two-liter turbo petrol is averaging 35 miles of the gallon which isn't awful really when you get on twisted road the kodiaq is surprisingly good actually the payoff of that slightly firmer than you imagined suspension means that it doesn't really lean much in the bends and it just kind of stays quite upright it's got good levels of grip as well so even if you go quite quickly into a corner you don't feel like you're just gonna wash wide it will go round and if you've got the four wheel drive version you can put the power down nicely when you're coming out of a corner as well because the front wheels start to slip then the rear ones will provide some added drive from the back end now even though you can get a four-wheel drive version of this car it's not as good off-road as something like a land rover discovery sport now if you want to see my full in-depth video review of that car click on the pop-out button up there to watch the video this two-liter turbocharged petrol version of the skoda kodiaq with four-wheel drive and the automatic gearbox should do not 60 in 7.8 seconds but what is the reality i'm going to find out now it sort of has launch control which is weird in a seven-seater suv that was a very slow takeoff though then he went for it oh but still actually despite being slightly hesitant away from the line 7.6 seconds in this that's good i'll take that so then what's my final verdict on the skoda code you actually avoid it should you consider it should you shortlist it or should you just go right ahead and buy it well i reckon you should avoid the kodiaq but only if you want a plug-in hybrid because you can't get one with this car for everyone else though you should go right ahead and buy this skoda because it's a great all-round seven-seat family suv i hope you enjoyed the video if you did give it a like let me know what you think of my verdict in the comments below click on the windows there to watch some more videos i'm on that box there to get a car wire to either buy or sell your next car new car whatever go there\n"
