controversialon this channel there's one way to getthe comments exploding down below it'san Apple product Apple has a stigma forcharging more than its competitors foran equally SPECT product this examplehere is no exception I've been using theDell XPS 13 this is the fully loadedmodel right here costing about fifteenhundred dollars for about six months nowand I'm very satisfied with it butsomething told me that I needed to goout and purchase a MacBook Pro now thisis the base model here I still ended uppaying about twelve hundred and fiftydollars after-tax so not too far offfrom this laptop here this one is SPECTmuch higher than this one although i5and i7 ultra-low power processors reallydon't differ much in terms ofperformance so in this video whilestepping on many of your toes I imagineI'll be giving you my honest impressionsof the MacBook Pro 13-inch 2017 modelhere we goso my impressions out of the box this iswithout a doubt the best built ultrabook on the market period cannot takethat away from Apple the solid aluminumbody is pristine and the edges are veryfine part of the reason why people arewilling to pay the Apple tax becausethese products are built so well I canattest to it only in this case but alsoin the $2,000 Apple experiment casewhere I purchased two grand worth ofApple products at one MacBook 12 inchand iPhone se which was later upgradedto an iPhone 7 and an Apple sport watchI had never gone full Apple before notonly was the ecosystem great but thebuild quality and all the products thatI purchased was top-notchok ok Greg we get it Apple products arebuilt well so what there are two hugedrawbacks when choosing a macbook proover a Dell XPS 13 for example the firstis the limited i/o so two USB type-cports on the far left you can charge aneither one of those but that's all yougot so yeah be prepared to bring somedongles the other huge drawback at leastfor some people is the operating systemMac OS is well Mac OS look I'll behonest I didn't purchase the macbook profor mac OS what I really purchased itfor was on the go video editing I talkedabout this to an extent in this videoright here but MacBooks and MacBook Proseven MacBook Airsare actually when it comes to videoediting thanks to a certain program andthat is final cut chances are anyonewho's professionally edited on a MacBooklaptop has used Final Cut Pro andthere's a good reason it is extremelywell optimized I can edit 4k footage onhere usually around five minutes or soand it will literally render and aroundthat same time that is incrediblebecauseFCP allows for background rendering sowhile you're editing and doing otherthings on your timeline the program isactually rendering the video for youlook it takes around 10 to 15 minutesfrom my Rison 7 1700 X dual GT X 1080sli setup to render an equivalent 4kfile that mind you is an Adobe PremierePro which has many advantages over FCPbut one of them is not rendering andthat's really the meat of this video whyI purchased this MacBook Pro foron-the-go video editing I don't need anyfancy edits I don't need Adobe premieresspecial effects to a render travel vlogsyou knowbut I don't do sophisticated edits whenI'm not in the studio so this is justfine for that and it renders so quick Idon't have to sit around and let thisthing heat up in my lap I really missedthe 12-inch MacBook actually gave it tomy sister for Christmas last year so Idecided to up the ante a bit and go forthe MacBook Pro 13 inch again didn'tspend much more than a MacBook last yearlike guess this is the base model probut there are several improvements overthe 12-inch MacBook that do want to hintat in this video the first improvement Inoticed immediately was the keyboard sothe MacBook 12-inch model had theseweird butterfly switches that I neverused before almost felt like I wastyping on a desk there was really noactuation point and the key travel wasextremely minimalnow the key travel really hasn't beenopted all on the MacBook Pro models butthe butterfly series two switches are abit more tactile you can feel the clickof it better even though key travel isstill reduced typing is a breeze and Ihave to be honest here it feels a bitbetter than my ex gets their teenskeyboards 13 keyboard is a bit mushykind of like typing on some membranekeyboard from 2004 the MacBook Prothough feels very modern now anotherhuge improvement of this MacBook Proover its previous generations thespeaker setup so 13-inch MacBook Prosreally haven't had the best speakersthey've usually been down firing andtoward the front sound a bit tinny thebass wasn't really there just wasn'tclear overall the 15-inch MacBook thoughhad really good speakers these MacBookPros here have insanely good speakerseven better than a 12-inch MacBook whichalready had better speakers than my XPS13 did here have a listen so you canthink of tessellation as the literaldivision of polygons that compriseobjects that we see in games and otherspecial effects here's the same maxvolume config on the XPS 13 so you canthink of tessellation as the literaldivision of polygons that compriseobjects that we see in games and otherspecial effects to touch on poorselection per second this tends to beone of the most polarizing topicsregarding MacBook Pros nowadays havingtwo USB type-c ports gets limitingespecially for some like myself whocontent creates a lot so I needpreferably a nasty I would take I don'tknow I would swap one of these USBtype-c doubt for an SD card slot I thinkI would be okay having a singletype-c port and an SD card slot fullsize that would be alright of course Ido miss having USB type a but I'mwilling to accept the fact that peopleare ready to move on that's fine Appleis going to be one of the firstcompanies innovate if you want to callit innovation the single headphone jackon the right-hand side of the laptop isnice to have although I do find it'sfunny that MacBook Pros includeheadphone jacks but iPhone 7s do notthat's a little weird to me there areplenty of strategies we could argueabout regarding Apple but they'rethey're a controversial company but it'sone of the reasons why they're sopopular and why they're so successfultake the trackpad for example Apple hasrefined this to the point where goingback to any previous generation MacBookPro or any other laptop in existence forthat matter feels primitive this iswithout a doubt the best trackpad inexistence it's smooth and responsivethrough and through and the hapticengine makes things feel mechanicaldespite this literally being a piece ofglass atop a motor battery life is alsoexcellent i've streamed netflix for 12hours uninterrupted at around 50 percentbrightness should last you a full daywithout a doubt unless you're doing someserious video editing in which caseexpect around five to six hours ofbattery life lease with the base modelif you opt for the model with the touchbar expect battery light to decrease byaround an hour or two there are a fewother physical constraints worthmentioning if you want to upgrade theSSD especially the model like this 128gigs it's not going to be enough formost people going for a 256 gigs goingto cost you an arm and a legnot only because well drives are prettyexpensive nowadays but also because thedrive in here is proprietarywell not Apple proprietary but you'll behard-pressed to find an SSD that willfit inside a laptop like this Ram isalso soldered on so a good game Appleperformance of the MacBook Pro overallthough fairly solid this is only the i5based model with 8 gigabytes of RAM butit does perform admirably against thehigher priced XPS 13 sporting 16 gigs ofram and a core i7 frequency willthrottle on demand pretty standard formost ultra-low power processors and thisone here doesn't get too hot the fanreally only turns on for me when ofcourse I'm video editing or if I'm on aSkype call and doing something in thebackground maybe opening a few chrometabs now to touch on the touch baroption for laptop like this I talked tomany people who are differingviews regarding the touch bar I playedaround with one that had it at Best Buyand I have to say I really wasn't allthat impressed okay it's an OLED screenthat's really cool so you don't have tosee any weird backlight coming from ablack background but is it really allthat viable I mean to even see the touchbar you have to be looking at yourkeyboard from above so if you like usingthis thing on your lap while you'relaying down good game and to be frankand a few demos I had seen the touch barreally didn't look all that versatile Imean sure it had a few shortcuts forsome native Apple apps but I don't knowit just it really didn't ring a bell forme and it didn't justify an extra two tothree hundred dollar price tag the lastthing I have to complain about here thecamera this is a test of the MacBookPros video quality I will say audio ison pointpretty good for a 13-inch MacBook butthe picture quality is subpar and that'skind of been the trend with apples asmaller laptops recently even the12-inch MacBook stuff are the same issueis this mediocre video call you expectbetter from Apple especially when you'repaying this much for laptop so to sumthis one of the things that I reallylike about the new MacBook Pro 13-inchthe speakers definitely the beautifulRetina display that gets extremelybright and it's also fairly accurate incolor reproduction and to be honest thekeyboard I would also include batterylife but most ultrabooks can get around8 to 10 hours so this is really nothingspecial for the MacBook Pro at thispoint the things that I don't like poorselection the camera and the price Ihave to say though despite paying around$1,300 for this device I think the prosoutweigh the cons this is a beautifullaptop it really is and it's so reliablefunctional yeah the operating system islimiting for some but you know you'regetting into that when you purchase anApple product in the first place I knowit sounds super strange for a Windowsguy who builds pcs for living and runsWindows on all of them to recommend aMacBook Pro but I'm telling you if youdo a lot of traveling and you travelingat all for that matter and you'reconcerned about video editing on the gospend around 300 bucks on Final Cut Proit's worth it for a MacBook of thiscaliber and buy a MacBook I know that'sgoing to earn me some dislikes I get itbut I have to be completely honest herelook it's not for everybody I would saymost people who go to school who justtype out documents and email thing youcan buy a really cheap laptop and dothat thisisn't like the perfect college laptopbecause it's so dang expensive but forpeople on the go like myself who want toedit outside of the studio this is anexcellent setup as always you can find alink to the macbook pro in this video'sdescription check out the differentmodels kind of pricings out see what youthink about the system overall if you'rereally in doubt about whether or not asystem like this is worth it especiallyconsidering the drawbacks as I mentionedthen not go into your local store andtest one out just get a feel for a buildquality and the operating system I thinkthose are the two biggest shocks foranybody entering the Apple ecosystemalso be sure to check out the other linkdown below squarespace.com /sy in studiofor that ten percent off any purchasewithin Squarespace if you
