BMW M235i X-Drive - (Dry Track) One Take

**The Thrill of Track Days: A Review of Various Cars**

As I stepped onto the track, I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement. The sun was shining, the air was crisp, and the sound of revving engines filled the air. My mission for the day was to put several cars through their paces and see how they would perform on this circuit. From an Integra off-road to a Porsche 718 Cayman, I had a diverse lineup of vehicles to test.

**The Subaru Outback**

My first stop was the Subaru Outback, which I had been told was not well-suited for track days. As I put it through its paces, I quickly realized that this car was more than capable of handling the demands of the circuit. The downshift paddle proved to be a bit tricky, but with some gentle prodding, I was able to coax it into the correct gear. The Outback's 2-wheel drive system may not have been ideal for drifting, but it held up well under braking and cornering.

**A Close Call with the Mazda Miata**

As I navigated the twisty sections of the track, I found myself close behind a Mazda Miata, which was driving aggressively. In a moment of excitement, I found myself in a bit of a pickle as the Miata seemed to be flying down the straightaway ahead of me. Fortunately, the Civic that had been nipping at my heels proved itself to be very quick and agile, leaving me to ponder what might have been if only the Outback had similar handling.

**The Honda Civic**

Speaking of the Honda Civic, it was clear from the start that this car was something special. Its turbocharged engine roared to life as I put it through its paces, and the grip it delivered was impressive. In the dry, the Civic proved itself to be a formidable competitor, with handling that rivaled even the most advanced sports cars.

**A Surprising Revelation**

As I made my way around the circuit, I began to notice something peculiar about the Civic's behavior. Despite its lack of a limited-slip differential, it seemed to be driving more smoothly than some of the more advanced all-wheel drive systems on offer. It was as if the car had shed its "drift mode" and was now simply driving like a well-mannered BMW.

**A Showdown with the Lotus Exige**

As I approached the final stretch, I found myself in a heated battle for position against a Lotus Exige Cup. This car, which I had been told was quick but not particularly reliable, proved itself to be more than capable of keeping up with my driving. The only caveat was its behavior under braking, which seemed to be somewhat affected by the car's weight distribution.

**A Bittersweet Conclusion**

As I came to the end of my track day, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment that it had to come to an end. Despite some minor teething issues with the Lotus Exige, I was thoroughly impressed by the range of cars on display. The Subaru Outback and Honda Civic proved themselves to be more than capable of handling the demands of the circuit, while the Mazda Miata showed a surprising level of agility.

**The Verdict**

In conclusion, my track day experience was a resounding success. Each car had its own unique strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately it all came down to one thing: fun. Whether you're an enthusiast or just someone who appreciates the thrill of driving, there's something here for everyone. So if you ever find yourself on this circuit, be sure to take the time to appreciate these fine machines in action.

**A Quick Note on Weather Conditions**

It's worth noting that my experience was largely influenced by the weather conditions on the day. The track was dry and sunny, which brought out the best in the cars. In contrast, I've been told that the same car can be quite different when it rains. While I'm sure there are many enthusiasts who enjoy driving their cars in the wet, for me personally, I'd much rather be out on a day like today.

**A Word of Caution**

As with any track day experience, there's always an element of risk involved. Whether you're driving a car that's capable of high speeds or one that's more suited to gentle cruising, it's essential to take the time to learn the circuit and drive safely. With that in mind, I'd like to extend a special thank you to all the participants who took part in this track day – your enthusiasm and skill were truly inspiring.

**The Fun of Sharing Track Time**

As I watched the various cars speed by, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experience itself. There's something special about sharing the thrill of driving with others, whether it's a group of seasoned enthusiasts or simply a bunch of friends who appreciate the beauty of speed. Whether you're a car enthusiast or just someone who loves to drive, track days are an essential part of any driving experience.

**A Quick Recap**

Before I sign off, let me take a moment to recap my experiences on the circuit. The Subaru Outback proved itself to be more than capable of handling the demands of the track, while the Mazda Miata showed surprising agility in tight corners. The Honda Civic delivered impressive grip and handling, making it a formidable competitor in its class.

**The End**

And with that, I bring my review to a close. It's been an absolute pleasure to share this experience with all of you, and I hope that you've enjoyed the ride as much as I have.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enalright guys welcome back to Grid life at gin German motor sports and music festival this is one of the best car events I've ever seen yesterday though it was raining all day so it was rough I thought there would be a good opportunity to test the m235i all wheel drive what up I can wake me up yeah yep thank you yeah I'm putting the windows back up I thought it would be a good time to test the all-wheel drive on 235 in the wet it turns out it wasn't very good in the wet but in the event I just was driving badly or in the event I don't know something else happened I figured I'd give it another shake in the dry and maybe it has some redeeming qualities after all I can actually you know break in braking zones as opposed to really just trying to not go off the end of the racetrack okay well in the dry I could well I could certainly use the car more that's for sure double apex okay well the car is it's certainly much better in the dry because I can actually use the grip of the Pilot Super Sport tires well bit of understeer there but from all four wheels not just all I can use so much more throttle now this is better again the gearing of the automatic is a little bit mismatched to this racetrack I find myself shuffling gears a bit but this is a fine racetrack in the dry though isn't it big fast nice open speed burns like that progressive understeer 6,500 rpm redline changing up already it's much better this uh this all-wheel drive system is clearly there for safety not for performance but when you're going out to drive in a performance fashion in the dry steering's a little heavier that it probably needs to be almost artificially heavy oh but it turns in and it actually does rotate a little bit there get down to the apex missed it this is very clearly an open track session not my favorite place to test cars but maybe we can get around somebody maybe the the 235 will surprise us maybe this lotus cup which is not likely well good news is if you tug the downshift paddle and it doesn't quite have the revs for it when you brake enough to get the revs for it it will give you the gear thank you sir maybe this thing is fast after all maybe it just didn't like the web very fast Subaru on my trail I give him a point bye that's a racecar thinking he can have to buy there that's acceptable well maybe he knows this line better than me too I'll follow him I'm flat to the floor here no rotation from the back end even with stability control fully off the OL wheel drive car is not a drift car it just stuck and came right around there so good for it good for the 2:35 they got a point bow from the Miata yes oh boy for that fr-s came very close to blowing back breaking zone yeah whoops I was going for the past but I just ran out of room point by here on the inside okay thank you sir brake pedal getting a little bit soft as I'm getting deeper and deeper into those brakes there is what appears to be a very aerodynamically enhanced Civic in front of me focus required as there's traffic on both sides of me front and back but the grip as I get on the throttle earlier is quite good I mean really no misbehaving from the back despite the lack of a limited slip differential I'm a bit impressed with it in the dry it's gotten it's a completely different character in the dry the only wheel drive system you know isn't trying to constantly shuffle power back and forth in a way that I don't like here it's just just driving more like a BMW actually there we go full throttle from here you're that civics turbo spooling up wow he's just walking away from me on the straightaway isn't he Oh rubber being shot up at me this is a fine racehorse do not expect the point vibe from this Civic very very quick freaking that the three board there as opposed to basically what would be the five yesterday because the grip in the braking zones was nasty do you know something I don't know about this eight back Civic that's a weird line to take there there's a point by yes one thing can be said for sure both his racetrack and this car are much more enjoyable whether than what we've got an Integra off in the grass there oh here's the point buy from the Jetta that's Austin was an instructor here he was killing it milette yesterda hatin that cover well this is the crowded circuit at the moment not an ideal situation for reviewing cars it's kind of a lot to think about it once frankly most people have the luxury of not having to talk oh we have a Porsche stopped on track what is he doing a bit of a show here at the end of this session man the pilot super sports in the dry you're really giving me a lot of grip if powers out of that nice sweeper Oh fire from the Civic colors that shoot fire are better than cars that don't shoot fire it's just a roll it's science brake pedals getting a little squishy now as I as I really hold this thing down in traffic man this that's a fast little civic I've caught up some traffic oh I got a blue flag the let me pass from the Civic or unless that's for me allow the Subaru by and I'll give him a point by that's a race car that smells like for an octane whoa diving going on there's actually a lemons car in on the track right now two cars in front is a Civic letting me borrow what's going I got a point by from the lemons car and I have another Lotus Exige cup on my ass the rota rotate under braking that's the first time this card has done any kind of rotation under braking and I am happy for it it only took four laps to get there yep yep yep yep all right oh that's a that is a car spun out on track I am going to give this Lotus racecar point by go ahead I'm going to cool it down brakes are getting brakes are getting hot and I think we've established that this car is much much better in the dry than it is in the wet the the old wheel drive system in the dry other than not making the car somewhat under if T really doesn't affect how it drives it doesn't shuffle power around in in a weird way oh and that's cool I'm about that so I'm glad I got to give it another shake I think that my wet evaluation was fair because same driver same track different day different conditions and the car got much much better so I I will give credit where it's due the the 235 M Sport all-wheel drive is better in the drive see you next timealright
