**A Refreshing Take on the Crossover Segment: The Cupra SEAT Ateca Review**

Well, there's loads of grip with that Haldex four-wheel drive system it does feel slightly front-wheel drive but that's always the case with these systems so getting back to that GLC we just saw the the GL c63 s by AMG that's sort of the same segment this car is in the small power SUVs but this car sort of has this part of this segment all to itself because it is the only one that is you know relatively affordable it also has just 300 horsepower instead of the 510 of the AMG but there are no real competitors in this class which is amazing to be honest because you know these days every niche is getting filled like there's no tomorrow so it's quite strange that we had to wait so long for sort of an affordable both crossover a hot cross that's the new segment I've just created that hot cross all right so we'll go for sport gearbox and floor it so the suspension in Cupra mode is still nice and comfortable it's not like super hard it's actually quite fast as well I mean you could go for an individual load and select everything in sport and go for the comfort suspension or damping but I actually like it this way you have a little bit more of putting control if the dampers are a little bit stiffer.

**A Great Package with Room to Spare**

300 horsepower that brings it sort of in the neighborhood of a BMW x2 and 35 that we are getting sued I think that's the only guard and sort of comparable to this although this is a whole bigger prediction it is a very very good package this it's a very good proposition and on the automotive sort of marketing Venn diagram this car sort of hits all the sports because you have that powerful engine you have that 300 horsepower you have a lot of space in here I mean you could carry low stuff in the trunk you can seat four adults quite easily in this car you've got nice leather steering wheel you've got nice seats go for the bucket seats you've got an automatic gearbox and it is relatively affordable so it's sort of the bullseye if you think about it how much box is this car checks I do still really really struggle with the fact that I don't see anything that's different on this car compared to a regular sale Cupra this is the first car as I said that they've brought out so there are war coming they are also developing some separates Cupra models that are only for Cupra so sale has nothing to do with that so I think if they start doing that they can differentiate the brand more from the sale brand.

**Comparisons and Verdict**

The new Audi S Q2 is also sort of comparable but it's a little bit smaller it is going to be more expensive than this car so that is more comparable to the BMW x2 M35 hi I think so again I sort of struggle to find cars that are really comparable to this one and that is also the thing that sticks with me you know even though I don't really get why they separated Cupra from sayeth I do get why this is the first car that they did with Cupra because these crossovers are so popular and they saw a gap they saw a space in the market too come witness across our SUV I really really like it I like this car it's a very popular but I really have a weakness for tickle and false cars so the fact that it's now price like this makes me happy and I think that you know there are some more cool cars coming in this segment author this one will be successful because I really do think that this will be a successful car.

**Performance and Handling**

so it is the first car that has been produced under the new label by sale it is no longer a Sayyaf Cupra it is now a Cupra so they have sort of split the two and they have a new logo they have a new badge and I'm not so sure I'm not so sure about the whole thing actually because of course I get the marketing perspective I get the value of it that you know this is a very sporty brand and they only have sporty cars so they decided that they wanted to split it because they could do more with the Cupra brand well today we're going to find out how that worked out but first before we begin don't with me if the audio is not that good or it is a little bit windy I'll try to stay low down as well maybe that helps all right so we've got a dark gray car today and well let's just dive into the first problem the badge the logo so I'll do it at the rear because this one has a lot of dead bugs on it okay so there it is this color is sort of a bronze we already saw that on the Cupra are the Leon Cupra R we drove a couple of months ago or a year ago it's a cool color and they've got this carbon fiber stuff to go with it but this is the new logo the new Cooper logo and to me it sort of looks weird I don't know what the meaning is I try to to look it up I try to find something I only found some really lame marketing video with terms like uniqueness and sportiness to describe the brand but it sort of looks like a Transformers logo to me or a very very questionable tattoo on the lower back of some lady it doesn't look good I I don't get it and we still have these leathers here which is the same as before the Cooper letters so I sort of struggle to see the value of it especially because you know what is different about this car Oh stupid wind what is different about this car now then when it would have been a regular sale Cupra apart from the badges III don't see anything I don't feel anything it's just it's a good car spoiler but I don't really see the benefit of the Cupra we've got quad exhaust which are real we've got a four Drive badge Wendy so it has four wheel drive it has the same hold X system as the Golf R it has a lot of similarities to the Golf R of course because it is an attractive model so we've got the e a 888 engine the 2-liter four-cylinder turbo engine which lives here oh that's old school alright so there it is and it has 300 horsepower and 400 Newton meter so it actually has 20 Newton meters more than a goal for a 0 to 100 Cobras an hour of 5.2 top speed 247 kilometers an hour we've got some very aggressive bumpers I do have to say that I like the look of the car I think it is very nice I think it looks quite muscley and as you know we really like our cars to be fast and practical so I sort of get why you would buy a car like this we've got some Cupra letters and the front bumper as well and that bronze color again on the wheels you can get them in this bronze color or in silver we've got Brembo brakes which I believe are the upgraded ones that is an option it is 20 millimeters lower than a standard otega so it does have I'm just going to go inside because the wind is stupid so it does have different springs and dampers than a regular otega so it's 20 millimeters lower as I said but it's also stiffer it has stiffer anti-roll bars and it has operated adaptive damping in here again I sort of struggle to see the benefit and the added value of the Cupra brand because other than this logo there's nothing really that sets it apart we also have these sports seats with Alcantara and the Cupra logo as well with some leather and some carbon fiber leather and again that bronze stitching we've got the bronze stitching on the gear lever as well on the steering wheel with some perforated leather and again carbon fiber woven stuff I mean it does look cool it does look good but it's it's it's not really that cool to look at this logo all the time I guess I would just go to a sale dealer and get the Cupra our badges the Leon Cupra our badges and replace the air bag replace the front and rear logos if I would buy this car that is what I would do to be honest okay so you've got a driving mode down here drive selector I should say so you've got Comfort Sport Cupra individual off-road and snow so we're just going to go for Cupra and a little tip if you ever drive this car try to keep it in Cupra mode and the gearbox in Drive or go for comfort mode and the gearbox in sports because otherwise it's just a very very sluggish and dead and it doesn't really respond well so if you go for sport or Cupra mode you also get some nice exhaust pops and the sound gets a bit louder we've got a 7-speed DSG gearbox of course so double clutch which is super quick and we are going to do a performance test right here if you want one of these drag ease these GPS performance boxes you can buy them in our store top right corner is a link to our official brand store and they are for sale there as I said those brakes are an option those Brembo brakes but you can also get some performance seats which are really cool they're real bucket seats so very very sporty seats and they do really give this car something special which is a shame that we don't have it today but can show you now all righty so we've got ESP in the system have to select sport mode for that we are in Cupra mode gearbox in sport full throttle there we go as I said 5.2 to beat 5.19 that is right on the money let's see if we can do a better one you get these gearbox these shift jerks 5.4 that's no better okay so 5.19 that is what it's supposed to do and now for the interesting part oh I forgot to show you guys the dials everything is digital now so this is standard on the Cupra not on the otega but it is standard on the Cupra you get this virtual cockpit as you can see we've got these changing instrument clusters so you get a big rev counter or a regular one or a stupid one or this one which they have apparently stolen from BMW I think because it's very similar to the m8 50 I instrument cluster I think okay some driving as I said they have stiffened up this car and they have also changed adaptive dampers so it could cope with both the weight of around 1600 kilos and you know the higher center of gravity because there is some body roll of course because it's quite a high car but to be honest that was a GL c63 AMG
