3 Camera Designs by Famous Product Designers

Welcome to Photo Threes, the show where we explore the fascinating world of photography and its connections to other creative fields. I'm your host, Ted Forbes, and I'm excited to share with you today's group of threes: three famous camera models designed by renowned product designers.

First up, we have the Polaroid Land Camera. This iconic camera was designed by Walter Teague, a famous American designer who made a name for himself in the photography industry. In addition to his work on the Polaroid Land Camera, Teague had a company called Teagan Associates that was responsible for designing other notable products, such as the UPS truck and the Air Force One of the Reagan era. The Polaroid Land Camera is a testament to Teague's skill as a designer and his ability to create innovative products that captured the imaginations of photographers around the world.

Our second camera model is the original Hasselblad design, which was created by a gentleman named A16 Sessom and 16 SASon. This design became the foundation for the more recent digital cameras produced by Hasselblad, but it was the original V series that was inspired by Sessom's work. Interestingly, Sessom is also well-known for coming up with the original Saab car design back in the day, a feat that speaks to his versatility and creativity as a designer.

Last but certainly not least, we have the Nikon F3 camera, which was designed by the renowned Italian product designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Giugiaro is a household name in the world of automotive design, having worked on some of the most iconic sports cars of all time, including the Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, and DeLorean DMC-12. The Nikon F3 camera is a prime example of Giugiaro's unique design style, which blended the sleek lines of a sports car with the functionality of a camera. The camera's distinctive black shape and little red highlight have become iconic symbols of Nikon's brand identity.

It's worth noting that Giugiaro went on to design several other cameras for Nikon, including the F 5vf, F6, and others, following in the same design patterns that made the original F3 so successful. These collaborations between product designers and camera manufacturers are a fascinating glimpse into the creative processes behind some of the most iconic cameras of all time.

In conclusion, these three camera models demonstrate how major companies have reached out to renowned product designers to create innovative products that push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of photography. Whether it's the Polaroid Land Camera's retro charm or the Nikon F3's sleek design, each of these cameras has left an indelible mark on the world of photography.

We'll be back next time with another episode of Photo Threes, where we'll explore new and fascinating connections between photography and other creative fields.
