Hey there guys, it's ETA Prime back again, and today I'm excited to share with you my experience with this new Mad Catz unit that I picked up. But here's the thing - it's not a brand new unit at all, but rather one that's been out for probably two years now. I managed to pick it up for a pretty sweet deal, and I've been messing around with it non-stop since I got my hands on it.
This Mad Catz Mojo comes equipped with a controller, which is awesome because it means I can actually play games without having to use the mouse cursor anymore. The controller itself has a Tegra 4 processor running at 1.8 gigahertz, along with 2 gigabytes of RAM and USB 3.0 connectivity. It also boasts HDMI video output, which allows me to watch movies in stunning 4k resolution - not just game playback, but actual 4k videos on Netflix and everything like that.
Now that I've got my setup all sorted out, let's get into the good stuff. I've set up my Dreamcast BIOS and loaded a few of my favorite games onto it, including Power Stone, which is one of my all-time favorites. The controller mode switch allows me to seamlessly transition from using the mouse cursor to playing with the controller - it's so smooth! As you can see in the top left corner of the screen, we're currently running at 52 frames per second while playing this game.
I've also had a chance to run a few other emulators on this unit, and I'm happy to report that they all work pretty well. However, there is one notable exception - Power Stone itself. While it does run smoothly, it's not quite possible to get it up to 60 frames per second without sacrificing some performance. Instead, we're limited to 50 frames per second, which still looks incredibly smooth and playable.
One thing I did notice while playing the game was that the frame rate would dip down to around 48 frames per second at times - but even then, I didn't experience any noticeable lag or stuttering. This is a testament to how well this unit can handle demanding games like Power Stone. If there's one thing I'd love to see improved on this unit, it's the ability to run at higher frame rates without sacrificing performance.
As we continue playing through Power Stone, you can see just how smoothly it runs - and I have to say, it still feels incredibly responsive and enjoyable. This game holds up incredibly well even after all these years, and I can see why it was one of my favorite games growing up. The graphics are still vibrant and colorful, and the gameplay is as challenging and addictive as ever.
After we finish playing through Power Stone for the time being, let's head back to the menu screen to take a look at some other features on this unit. As you can see, it looks great - and I have a lot more content planned in terms of games and emulators that I'll be covering over the coming weeks and months.
So what do you guys want to see next? Are there any specific Dreamcast games or emulators that you'd like to see covered on this unit? Let me know in the comments below, or send me a private message if you have any questions or suggestions.
