Apple's iPod Touch refresh still matters...to some

Hey Friends, Some News from Me

I thought that was a dead product vertical this morning Apple just dropped a new iPod touch in the Apple Store altered beast just called wise from glaze all joking aside though here's what we knew the last time the ipod touch got an update it was in 2015 that was the sixth generation ipod touch this new one will be the seventh gen iPod touch and it has apples 810 fusion chip which is the same one you'd see in a 20-18 iPad.

It also has a very decidedly old-school look to it if you're feeling nostalgic for 2012 the new iPod touch still looks exactly the same as it did way back then with a home button a 4-inch Retina display and a headphone jack ante courage right. It's also got an upgraded camera which will support augmented reality, it's already in the Apple Store and it starts at $199 bucks for the 32 gig model.

I've seen a bunch of you whining online today about how Apple didn't need to launch this that it doesn't have Face ID which makes it useless how it's dumb says it doesn't have phone capabilities or that it's Apple pretending to de Volvo phone and pretend it's revolutionary. Let's talk about context, the iPod has generally been a pretty popular device even though it's not a cell phone, it's an easy purchase for a parent whose kid wants an iPhone but maybe isn't quite ready for the responsibility of one plus what kid even likes making phone calls nowadays none of them that's how many everything they need is on this device and it doesn't need to have the speed or battery life that a flagship iPhone does.

On top of that, a lot of companies use iPods for things like point-of-service machines and updating the hardware would potentially be a massive headache for enterprise customers who just want that updated chip and no form factor updates fair enough. Also, Tim Cook didn't just roll out of bed last week and say hey let's update the iPod I hope that's a good table cook impersonation I don't know I'm sure that was a decision that came off the heels of various forecasts and whatnot.

Speaking of which, Apple actually lumps the iPod Touch into the accessories category in its official earnings calls along with Beats Air Pods Apple TV Apple watch home pod and a bunch of other stuff is very possible it's not likely that's a choice to finally update the iPod comes on the heels of good but not gangbusters iPhone sales. I will be super curious as to how the numbers shake out in the next earnings report once it includes this hardware refresh.

So what does this all mean for you? Well, we recently saw Apple update another product we thought was dead and gone the iPad Mini this might be a sign Apple isn't expecting super-powered iPhone sales until its next product cycle and that might actually be good for anyone hoping for ever forgotten or presumed dead Apple products to get a new lease on life. If you're happily using your iPhone 10s, your pixel 3 or whatever other super nice flagship phone that you might have and haven't been interested in the iPod Touch since the early 20 teens, surprise, this CPU bump will continue that tradition and mean absolutely nothing to you.

On the flip side, if you were secretly hoping for an iPod update that supports things like group FaceTime augmented reality and has a newer camera update inside congratulations your day has finally arrived. As for me, well let's ask this magic 8-ball am I getting an eye? You know what, I don't need this, no I'm not I'm not getting an iPod Touch, I have taped my phone every single year I haven't eaten an iPod for a really long time so maybe you want one I don't know. Drop your words down in the comments that's all I got for today
