**1. The Power of 3D Scanning with Polycam**

Bill begins his list with an enthusiastic endorsement of **Polycam**, a 3D scanning app that revolutionized his prop-making projects. By using his phone, he scanned real-world objects and seamlessly integrated them into digital environments for modeling in Fusion 360. This technology proved invaluable during the creation of Satisfactory helmets for DragonCon, allowing precise fitting of assets like store-bought visors into 3D-printed helmets. Polycam's versatility extended beyond work to fun outdoor explorations, making it a tool Bill can't recommend enough.

---

**2. The Immersive World of *Satisfactory***

Bill's favorite game of the year, **Satisfactory**, offers an expansive crafting experience where players build colossal sci-fi factories across a planet. Unlike traditional survival games, *Satisfactory* focuses on creativity and system building, providing deep satisfaction in creating interconnected machinery. Its stunning visuals, set against an alien backdrop with creatures and vehicles, make it a must-play for fans of immersive construction.

**3. Marvelous Anatomy: The Artistry of Superheroes**

Bill's excitement turns to literature with **"Marvel Anatomy,"** a book illustrating the physiology of Marvel characters. Authored by Mark Sumerack and Daniel Wallace, with art by Jonah Loeb, this volume offers detailed insights into superheroes' fictional biology. Each character receives multiple pages, showcasing Loeb's exceptional talent. For any superhero fan, this is a visual treat that Bill highly recommends.

**4. The Joy of the Crush Metric Pen**

A simpler pleasure in Bill's year was the **Crush Metric Pen**, celebrated for its geometric design. Despite offering no productivity benefits, Bill finds it endlessly satisfying to extend and admire its intricate patterns. He even acquired multiple pens, sharing them with friends, leading to countless afternoons of enjoyment.

---

**5. Precision with the Shapeoko 4 CNC Router**

Bill's passion for creation escalated with the **Shapeoko 4 CNC Router**, a collaboration with Carbide 3D. Initially used for woodworking projects like a Skyrim sign, Bill soon tackled metalwork, crafting a Star Trek badge and intricate brass items. Though challenging, each project brought him closer to mastering CNC technology, fueling his excitement for future metallic creations.

**6. Restoring Rusty Treasures with Evapo Rust**

Bill turned to **Evapo Rust** to restore tools from his wife's grandfather's barn, including a giant auger drill bit. This biodegradable, non-toxic solution effectively removed rust overnight, transforming neglected items into usable treasures. Bill praises its reusability and eco-friendliness, making it an essential tool for restoration projects.

---

**7. The Enthusiasm of the Silicon Convention**

Bill concludes with **Silicon Con**, a gathering of makers where he and friends competed and created together. Organized by Adam, the event brought friends from the Pacific Northwest, including his twin brother, who added humor to the mix. Bill highlights the convention's fun atmosphere and expresses his eagerness to attend next year, calling it an unmissable event.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwell hello there tested friends and fellow makers welcome to the shop you've got bill today and I'm checking in with my favorite things from 2022 this is a collection of tools and neat stuff that I just can't live without and I want to start with 3D scanning I've been using the app polycam a whole bunch this last year uh just for fun to collect stuff out in the world but also in a lot of our prop making projects it's so useful to make a real world thing scan it with your phone and then Chuck it in the digital world where you can work with it we used it extensively on our satisfactory helmet builds we've got these back here we did satisfactory costumes for DragonCon this year we were able to both scan our heads and the store-bought visors that I put in the 3D printed helmet I was able to put all of those assets into Fusion 360 and model around them so that they would all fit perfectly and it went really really well I can't wait to do more 3D scanning for my future projects speaking of satisfactory three another one of my very favorite things my favorite game this year my wife Brittany and I played we each dumped about 150 hours into it I'm sure we'll dump hundreds more in the next time we play through it's uh it's not really a survival crafting game more of just a crafting game you build a Sci-Fi Factory just astronomically big covering the surface of the planet with a giant Factory as the name would imply it's deeply satisfying to build all these systems and have them work together and it's also just a lot of fun it's a gorgeous science fiction looking game set in an alien world with alien creatures vehicles and of course lots and lots of building up next is a book I just got this it just came out it's called Marvel Anatomy written by Mark sumerack Daniel Wallace and illustrated by our friend Jonah Loeb as far as I'm concerned Jonah is one of the most incredible illustrators living today and he put a ton of work into this book and his illustration these are incredible it's like an anatomy book but it describes bits about super powered individuals in the Marvel Universe uh like I said of course the illustrations are incredible um but I was surprised to find that a lot of characters have more than one page and it really does a deep dive into what makes these characters tick in a fictional sense of course this one's available right now and if you're a fan of superheroes you better go get it because it just looks incredible so good kudos to Jonah on the extraordinary art another one a little one nothing too fancy about this it's just a pen it's from a website called Crush metric uh it looks neat and shiny and then when you pull the lever to extend the pen the body of it changes in the into this neat geometric pattern uh again this doesn't help me be more productive in fact it probably makes me less productive but it's so satisfying yeah entire afternoon's wasted just doing this with this neat pen uh anyway I got the a bunch of these and gave them them to a bunch of my friends and I've been playing with them ever since I just can't get enough of it yeah yeah then of course another one of my favorite things kind of hard to miss because all my stuff is sitting on it it's this CNC router this is the shape Poco 4. we worked with our friends over at carbide 3D they sent us this machine and we've been using it in a bunch of our videos over on the punish props Academy Channel making some neat stuff we started with things out of wood we made a winking skeever sign from Skyrim of course and then I immediately jumped into trying to learn how to cut aluminum and Brass on this machine which it does quite well so I did a Star Trek badge and I'm deep in the middle of a brass project right now that I hope will be out very soon steep learning curve with CNC I've been breaking a lot of bits and ruining a lot of brass but I'm learning every week as those skills accumulate and I'm getting a lot better at it and a lot more confident and I can't wait to make even more stuff with this thing out of brass and aluminum I want to get I want to get fancy with this thing it's it really feels like you're Tony Stark when you can have this machine just cut out metal stuff for you I love it I can't wait to build more on it another tool I guess um you've probably got heard about this I know Adam's used it a whole bunch it's called evapo rust it's for getting rust off of metal tools usually is what it's used for although it'll get rid of rust on pretty much anything we use this stuff because we went to uh my wife Brittany's grandfather's barn and got a bunch of old tools including this giant auger drill bit that's just the coolest thing ever with a really ancient looking uh connector on the back here and it was super super Rusty along with a lot of the other stuff we dug out of the barn and we were able to use this evaporrust to like erase it you just soak it in this stuff overnight brush it off the next day and most of the rest is completely gone uh it's been really cool to play with and it's been fun to restore some of the old tools found in an Old relative's Barn so if you've got a project coming up where it's going to require some Rust this stuff's a no-brainer it's reusable we've used this several times and it's worked quite well it's biodegradable non-toxic really really terrific stuff then my final favorite thing this year had to be silicon of course the convention this summer Adam decided to throw the biggest maker party in the country and he invited me and all my friends it was extraordinary we did it the year before and it was really cool but there was something special in the water this year we had a lot of our costume uh making friends from the Pacific Northwest there my twin brother was there just to confuse everyone which was a real riot uh everyone had a really terrific time it was making on the floor there were competitions lots of laughs lots of fun and I I get the feeling that this this is this Con is going to be a thing it's gonna be a thing and you're gonna want to go to it and if you don't you're gonna feel like you're missing out I'm already booked to go next year I can't wait for it can't wait to do something really fun and amazing there again so hopefully we'll see you there uh next summer it's silicon I know I can't wait that'll wrap it up for some of my favorite things this is all a pretty good assortment of stuff I like to have a good mix uh whenever I put this list together and I hope you find some of this stuff useful or fun or neat you can go check it out for yourself that'll do it from us in our shop here in Seattle we'll see you all in the future with some more fun builds take it easy happy craftingwell hello there tested friends and fellow makers welcome to the shop you've got bill today and I'm checking in with my favorite things from 2022 this is a
