The Rat Rod Project: A Journey to Completion
One of the key aspects of the rat rod project was its transformation from a standard chassis to a one-of-a-kind vehicle. The team worked hard on this part, and it's clear that they were determined to get it right. However, as the project progressed, they encountered some unexpected challenges. For example, the motor shaft key went missing, but fortunately, Lee had a spare set of keys on hand.
The team then moved on to install the new motor and get it up and running. They used Dolores, a 24-volt system, as the primary power source for the vehicle. However, they soon realized that the existing trailer connector wouldn't work with the new setup, so they had to come up with an alternative solution.
After some creative problem-solving, the team managed to rig up a towing system using Dolores, allowing them to transport the rat rod to its final destination. The goal was to test the vehicle on a private road, but due to logistical issues, including the lack of a suitable tow hitch, they had to rely on Dolores for this part of the journey.
Once the rat rod arrived at its new location, the team faced another challenge: getting it to move. They discovered that the tiny motor, designed for electric motorcycles, would struggle to propel the vehicle, especially when going uphill. To address this issue, they created custom transmission mounts and made some modifications to the drivetrain.
The end result was worth all the hard work and creativity invested in the project. The rat rod is a lightweight, quick, and agile vehicle that can reach highway speeds without issue. The three-speed manual transmission with regenerative braking provides an exhilarating driving experience, making it feel like you're driving a go-kart. The steering wheel gives the impression of having complete control over the vehicle.
The team's efforts have paid off in spades, as the rat rod has exceeded their expectations in every way. It's clear that they've put their heart and soul into this project, and it shows in the final product. As one of the creators noted, "It's absolutely awesome," describing the experience of driving the rat rod.
The rat rod project is not just about building a vehicle; it's also about pushing the boundaries of what's possible with electric powertrains. The team has demonstrated their expertise and creativity in designing and implementing an innovative solution that's both functional and fun to drive.
One interesting side note is that the zero motor used in the rat rod project has been featured in other high-performance vehicles, including an electric T-Rex that can go from 0-60mph in just three seconds. Additionally, a team of engineers reached out to one of the creators for guidance on wiring two battery packs together to enhance range and performance.
Throughout the process, the team received valuable support from fans and supporters, who have helped fund their endeavors through Patreon and other channels. As a result, they've been able to focus on building something truly remarkable, one that will leave a lasting impression on the automotive world.
As the rat rod project comes to a close, it's clear that this vehicle is more than just a car – it's an experience. With its unique blend of performance, style, and innovation, it's sure to turn heads wherever it goes. Whether you're a seasoned car enthusiast or simply looking for something new and exciting, the rat rod project is definitely worth checking out.

but let's take a trip down memory lane first I want to be reckless and impulsively bid on a zero electric motorcycle at auction and I want it at IAA for the great price of 3,200 bucks why is that so great you asked because you're not gonna get a battery pack motor control and logging for that price anywhere but I forgot the bike I realize you know what I'm not really a bike person anymore plus I already have a Corvette and a Humvee for my midlife crisis but I just can't let this bike go to waste so just so happened to have this 1930s rat rod I bought on Craigslist on impulse and had a Chevy 305 which nobody wants a Chevy 305 the Chevy 3 of fires at the kick serial of engines no one liked it serial and if you enjoy kick serial over Captain Crunch or the other brands you probably also own a piece of antiquated technology in your home such as a curved television so I ended up selling it to a subscriber for 300 bucks that I had an idea to merge these two worlds into one take the bike and the rat rod together so I made a coupler grinded like I was a high school dance wore flip-flops while working with hot things well did uses duct tape where appropriate bloodied myself snake some wires configured a brake pedal mounted a battery and sold the dash had some seats reupholstered made a throttle from the handlebars off the bike which you gotta admit is pretty damn slick tightened about 80% of the things up and then found the coupler to merge the electric motor to the transmission spline was off-center womp-womp I needed to get that fixed so I have a good friend that works at a place called desktop metal which makes 3d printed metal yes not those lousy plastic print kiosks that showed up at malls and quickly disappeared but metal so I gave him my eye ball coupler and said do your magic the process to make a can of a part send that to a printer that works just like the thing at your terrible office cubicle only 50 times cooler then they go into a D bind then a Center in an oven that rivals where a two cheese brick oven pizza so let me show you the result good ass Mountain Dew okay so this is the original part that Lee and I made together now this parts pretty complex is actually made of three different parts one this is part of the clutch assembly one that was in the car to this middle section it made of a scrap piece of metal that Lee and I found the trash and three this last part is at the original motorcycle sprocket now obviously the lot things wrong with this number one is I even sent him in the first place so when I went to desktop metal they actually analyze this and said this could actually be a lot simpler of a part so when I set this to them they scanned the entire thing took a lot of measurements and they came up with a really cool and interesting part-2 this they came up with this look how much more simple this is this where the motor shaft goes in and this is where the transmission goes it's a lot simpler than this part as you can see it's smaller it's lighter it's more compact and it just makes a lot more sense so this goes on here originally which is definitely a lot to take on it's a lot heavier it actually weighs the front shaft of the motor on and this one's definitely a lot better so we're gonna try this part for the rat rod as opposed to this one but I'm definitely gonna keep this one was actually a really cool part we worked really hard on it I may actually give it to him you never know but this is a new part and I'm pumped to get this on so before installation and typical rich fashion I ended up losing the key for the motor shaft Lee said he happened to have about 10 on hand so I brought the motor there to see if we could install it and get some filings cut it and not Jam and also dull the file Oh what do you think rich now the liver is getting the rat rod to a private road that we can test it on I don't have my Tacoma anymore and my Humvee doesn't have a tow hitch yet but I distantly remember a few months ago I installed a hidden hitch from etrailer.com on a live stream on Dolores so why not use Dolores as you know boys and girls we have choices for everything the thing I have to do now is get the rat rod up to a place that I could actually test the zoo to see and unfortunately the new Humvee I just got doesn't have the right connector with the back taxi tow stuff with I have like a really strange 24-pin connector here based on a 24 volt system and that's not gonna work just yet I gotta get this rat rod somewhere and let me use Dolores to do it actually sir are you using this as a tow vehicle sir no sir sir are you sure you're not using this to tow a vehicle sir no sir I am using it for testing purposes okay all right now here we go with this I actually got this thing home miraculously and I really don't know how this is gonna end up the goal is to get the rat rod onto this trailer this thing was banging and clanging everywhere but honestly I think once I get some load on the back of it it might make things a little bit easier and quiet it down but I'm really wondering how this is gonna go because this is gonna be definitely very very very interesting so I got the car the trailer on how did it do it did well very well actually the Tesla has more than enough power to pull this thing I even stopped the supercharged and created quite the stir now you guys have lots of things to say about this build and the number one thing is that there's no way in hell at this tiny motor meant for electric motorcycle can move an actual car well today we're gonna find out
