The Galaxy S9: A Phone that Exceeds Expectations
As we take a closer look at the Galaxy S9, it's clear that this phone is more than just an incremental upgrade from its predecessor. The differences between the regular and Plus versions are quite striking, with the Plus model boasting two extra gigs of RAM and double the cameras. This means that users can expect better performance, especially in low-light conditions, thanks to the dual aperture sensors. These mechanical lenses allow for a more precise control over the amount of light entering the camera, reducing noise and capturing sharper images.
One of the standout features of the S9's cameras is their ability to take slow-motion video at an impressive 960 frames per second, resulting in smooth and vibrant footage at 720p resolution. The phone's RAM is also cleverly integrated into the camera system, allowing it to handle the demands of high-speed recording without any hiccups. This means that users can expect crystal-clear visuals, even when capturing fast-paced action.
In terms of other features, both the regular and Plus versions have similar screen sizes, with 5.8 and 6.2 inches respectively. However, Samsung has managed to slim down the bezels slightly, resulting in a more streamlined look. The screens themselves are 15% brighter than those found on last year's model, making it easier to view content outdoors.
Another notable improvement is the presence of dual speakers, which provide better sound quality and a more immersive listening experience. The earpiece speaker has also been upgraded to be around 1.4 to 1.5 times louder than that of its predecessor, making it ideal for music lovers and those who frequently use their phone as a speakerphone.
One aspect where the S9 diverges from its Note 8 counterpart is in terms of design. The Galaxy S9 has a more subtle look compared to the Note 8's flat edges, but still manages to feel substantial in the hand due to its flatter side profile. This makes it easier to grip and hold onto, especially for those with larger hands.
In terms of performance, Samsung is proud to announce that the Galaxy S9 will be shipped with a Snapdragon 845 processor, which promises to deliver lightning-fast speeds for gaming, VR, and AR experiences. The phone's battery life has also been improved, albeit slightly, with storage options ranging from 3,000mAh to 3,500mAh, depending on the model.
The Bixby button remains present in both versions of the S9, although Samsung has made some improvements to its functionality. For instance, users can now access real-time translation and estimated calorie counts by holding the button up to different languages or food items. Additionally, the phone will be able to take pictures of your face and map it onto animated emojis, allowing for a more personalized experience.
The S9 also features an exciting new feature called animated emojis, which uses advanced technology to create high-definition characters that can be customized with various skin tones, hair styles, and clothing options. This feature is exclusive to the international launch colors, including Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, and a limited-edition Gray model.
Finally, it's worth noting that the Galaxy S9 does not appear to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the S8. However, given the advancements made in camera performance, display brightness, and overall design, this phone is sure to delight fans of Samsung's flagship series. We'll be putting the S9 through its paces in our testing process to determine whether it truly lives up to its promises.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enMeet the Galaxy S9.This one's been leaked for a while sothis shouldn't be a giant surprise ifyou follow the tech rumors but let metell you everything there is to knowabout these phones. Let's start with someof the differences, the S9 is now notjust a smaller version of the S9+the Plus version is going to get twoextra gigs of rams, it's going to havesix, that's going to have double thecameras. So that's gonna bring it up totwo. The main sensors are the same 12megapixels, they now have dual aperturesso it's mechanical you can actually seeit open and closed. They showed us someexamples of how that's going to reducenoise. We tested it did seem to do thatalthough real-world usage will determineit. When we get this in their offices will ofcourse test it. They're also capable oftaking an insane 960 frames per secondslow-mo video at a pretty awesome 720p.We tested it and they look absolutelyincredible and at fun fact about thesephones they actually now have RAM builtinto the camera system so it couldhandle all those crazy frames that arecoming in. The Plus version though gets asecond camera of course for the zoomstuff that you'd like. Other than thatthings are pretty similar from last gen.The screen size are still a 5.8 and 6.2, the bezels have beenslimmed down just a little bit. Thescreens were already really good withthe S8 but now they're better this timearound. They are 15% brighter and we tested this, the screens did look really bright. Thatshould be nice and bright sunlight whenyou're outdoors it's going to gonna beable to see the screen. If there could betwo knocks on the Galaxy S8 that I waspretty vocal about, it was the sillyfinger print reader location that's nowbeen fixed and no dual speakers, that hasalso now been fixed. The earpiece is aspeaker, it gets pretty loud. In fact it'sabout 1.4 to 1.5 times louder than theS8 so they're really proud of it formusic and if I use it for speakerphoneit's just louder now. One of the thingsthat I liked about the Note 8 was itkind of flattened out the edges so thephone felt more substantial in her handDidn't feel kind of as thin as the S8was and it that same thing here at theGalaxy S9 did it the note it's got kindof a flatter side to it so it does feelbetter in the hand. If you like the waythe Note felt you're gonna love the waythe Galaxy S9 is gonna feel.Samsung loves to be first with stuffthis is the first phone out of the gateshipping with a Snapdragon 845 so it'sgonna be incredibly fast for processing, for gaming, for a lot of VR and AR, andshould be better on the battery as well andthose sizes are the same as last-gen at3,000 and 3,500 but again the Plus hasthe 6 gigs of ram versus the regular that hasthe 4 so so bear that in mind. I knowyou're gonna ask,I I asked Samsung, Bixby button is stillthere. It still does Bixby things but it's alittle bit better now, you get some sortof AR makeup see what looks likea different makeup on, it's now gonna doreal-time translation if you hold it upto words that are in different language, and also if you hold it up to foodit'll tell you what an estimatedcalorie count is. One thing that isdefinitely new here with the S9 and theS9+ are animated emojis. If youever made it like a Nintendo Mii but youwish it was more high-def and could mapyour face, that's what we've got righthere is kind of cool. It's actually gonnatake a picture of your face and it'sgoing to make it, you can customize some -stuff your skin tone hair and clothesbut it does work actually really well. Idid a test with each eyebrow going upand down is able to see those things, smiling was able to see those things, turnyour head see those things. It's able tomap your face really well of course ifyou want to just put yourself into othersort of emojis like like bunny rabbitsand other things we might be used tothose are here as well and they'll workon third-party apps. It actually willjust save it as a picture if you want. Onthe software side the UI is going tolook similar to last-gen and actually Ireally like what Samsung has done on thesoftware side but it is Android Oreobased, in fact it's based off of 8.0 andI think all the things that make Samsungphones stand out are also here you canrun through the list of flagship specsas check them off one by one.Expandable storage is here, quickcharging here, wireless charging is here,Samsung pay is here, ip68 of course it'shere as well. All that stuff that makes you generallySamsung phones awesome or of coursepacked into the Galaxy S9 and S9+.The u.s. is getting some good launchcolors finally. It's gonna be midnightblack, coral blue, lilac purple, there's anawesome looking gray one that's onlygoing international. So that's it that'sthe S9 and the S9+. It doesn't atleast appear to be a giant upgrade. WhatIthink was already peak smartphone withthe S8, coming from an S7 is agiant step forward, coming from a Note8 you might want to give it a secondthought before we decided whether or notto upgrade but it looks awesome. We'regonna get one in the office of coursethe test put it through its paces. I'mexcited I like to last gens. This one looks like a really niceimprovement on that but we'll we'll bethe judge.
