Why Adam Savage Travels With THIS

The Joy of Salt: A Gourmet's Perspective

As I sat down to open my latest gift from Jacobson Salt Company, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The two packages that lay before me were a testament to the art of fine salt production, with their beautiful designs and enticing aromas. One was labeled "OG" and seemed to be a standard issue, while the other was marked as "Lemon Zest Salt", which immediately caught my attention.

I decided to start by examining the OG package, noting its sleek design and the ease with which it had been opened. The inside of the container revealed a generous amount of flake salt, perfectly suited for adding depth and complexity to any dish. I couldn't help but think about how this salt would pair well in a variety of recipes, from savory meats to roasted vegetables.

Next, I turned my attention to the Lemon Zest Salt package. As I lifted the lid, a burst of citrusy aroma wafted up, tantalizing my senses and inviting me to explore its many possibilities. The flakes themselves were a beautiful shade of mid-century style, with an elegant design that seemed to evoke the sophistication of a bygone era. This was clearly not just any salt – it was a statement piece, designed to add a touch of elegance and refinement to even the most mundane dishes.

I decided to test the Lemon Zest Salt by sprinkling it liberally over a simple Caprese salad, composed of heirloom tomatoes, creamy mozzarella cheese, and fragrant basil leaves. As I took my first bite, the citrusy notes of the salt exploded on my palate, perfectly balancing the sweetness of the tomatoes and the richness of the cheese. It was a match made in heaven – this salt was truly magical.

But what really sets Jacobson Salt Company apart is their commitment to using high-quality ingredients and traditional production methods. As I mentioned earlier, kosher salt has a way of elevating even the most mundane dishes into something special, and I can attest to that firsthand. In fact, my kids are both better chefs than me, and they always ask for kosher salt when cooking up a storm in our kitchen.

I also have to give a shout-out to my wife, who is an accomplished chef in her own right. While I may not be the head cook in our household, I'm often tasked with prepping ingredients and adding that final flourish of flavor to dishes before they go into the oven or onto the plate. And let me tell you – it's a vital job! A little bit of this, a pinch of that... voila! Dinner is served.

One of my favorite things about Jacobson Salt Company is their commitment to using only the finest ingredients and traditional production methods. As I mentioned earlier, kosher salt has a way of elevating even the most mundane dishes into something special, but this company takes it to a whole new level. Their flake salt, in particular, is incredibly high-quality – I can tell just by looking at it that it's going to add a depth and complexity to any dish.

And then there's the Lemon Zest Salt. Ah, the Lemon Zest Salt! This is truly a game-changer. Imagine adding a burst of citrusy freshness to your cooking or baking... that's what this salt does. I can think of one particular recipe – tomato soup at Trader Joe's – and how it's transformed by just a pinch of kosher salt into something entirely new. It's like a whole new world has opened up.

Of course, no discussion of Jacobson Salt Company would be complete without mentioning their commitment to using only the finest ingredients and traditional production methods. As I mentioned earlier, kosher salt is a staple in our kitchen, and we use it liberally when cooking up a storm. But this company takes it to a whole new level – their flake salt, in particular, is incredibly high-quality, with an elegant design that's sure to elevate any dish.

And then there's the Lemon Zest Salt package itself. As I opened it, a burst of citrusy aroma wafted up, tantalizing my senses and inviting me to explore its many possibilities. The flakes themselves were a beautiful shade of mid-century style, with an elegant design that seemed to evoke the sophistication of a bygone era.

In short, Jacobson Salt Company is a true gem – their commitment to using only the finest ingredients and traditional production methods makes all the difference in the world. Whether you're a seasoned chef or just starting out on your culinary journey, these salts are sure to elevate any dish into something truly special.

through about how I wanted to paste this out but um pretty on brand uh so I collect props we all know this I love collecting props I love connecting people with new prop fandoms they didn't know about I love finding out that someone's obsessed with a certain prop that I have access to or access to like great information on um and I also like when I see things that are a pretty great deal sometimes I just pick them up so last week on the RPF a um a Raiders jacket came up Raiders of the Lost dark a leather jacket built identically to the one in Raiders came up for sale on the RPF for a very very reasonable price 150 bucks I think give or take and I just grabbed it it struck me that it might be a little small for me although right now in men's sizes well actually probably in everybody's sizes but I know men sizes so I I can tell you that like over the past 15 years without changing my weight very much I've become a small uh in a lot of uh uh uh clothing manufacturers size charts um which is to say that uh this coat was slated as a 36 chest uh and I thought as a kind of a very a regular 38 chest with a slightly long torso that that might fit me it didn't but that's fine um because here's the jacket it's a lovely jacket um and I'm not going to do coverage about this jacket uh because it's unnecessary um for the story there's all sorts of you want your information on a Raider's coat you can go find it online RPF threads all that stuff um what is lovely is that it came with a letter it came came uh with a letter from Jeremy in South Carolina um who just wrote and said imagine my shock as I'm stocking shelves at Target when my phone tells me that Adam eving Savage just bought my RPF listing your work has continued to be a source of inspiration on my maker Journey as well as on my journey to be the best human I can be thanks so much for everything you do keep up the lovely work and I hope this jacket provides you as much joy as it did to me PS when are you going to make another Grail diary dude I made a Grail diary I made a Grail diary I know I did that long before I had uh any kind of Channel either television or YouTube but um that's not going to happen soon I mean there very likely will be ancient text replication of some sort in the future um but what a sweet note to get on top of this coat and now this coat will be part of the my collection uh until someone of a slightly smaller statue than I tells me that they love Raiders and then I may say hey I've got an extra Raiders coat would you like it um I've done the same thing with several Raiders hat I've given away four of them over the years I've gotten picked up Raiders hats for in trades and for other stuff and at you know at really good prices uh circumstantially and I just I oh right we can go back we can go back to my childhood for this origin story I am forgive me if I've told this before but I really think it was a long time in the past so I'm a young I'm a young kid oh yeah had a blood test this morning um I'm a young kid I'm like probably 11 or 12 and I go with my dad to visit a sculptor and if I remember correctly this sculptor made these beautiful he was a a carpenter who physically made trees out of carpentry like he made every leaf out of wood out of out of hardwood and carved them all and made all the branches and hand carved them all and he was a friend of my dad's and we were having lunch with him and on his wall he had this African mask and it was one of those African masks that is made out of an oil tin um out of these I believe if I understand correctly that like a standard square box tend to hold liquid or oil is like a uh uh uh it is like a a common material in Africa and so this was a mask cut out of the metal of a of a metal container for liquid um with marbles for eyes and it was really beautiful and really evocative and 12-year-old me just like couldn't stop looking at it and I I wanted one but I didn't know how to say or even I didn't really know how to say I wanted one so I said to the guy who owned it where do you get one how much do one of these cost that's what that was my that was my like threading the needle conversationally I thought I was being clever um one of the funniest things about growing older is that you can't believe how much the adults around you knew how full of crap you were when you were like a young person and I'm talking like up until your like mid 20s um the adults around you all know when you're bsing and they also all know that that is just part of growing up anyway this guy saw through me uh that I desired this mask and my dad and I were pulling out of his driveway he had a long driveway I remember and he came we heard it who and he comes running down the driveway with the mask and he gave it to me and that feeling was so powerful so shocking and to be fair I felt really seen and acknowledged in a way that was intense and lovely and I seek to replicate that experience so uh I keep this around so I can give it away what could be better than that um put that there and wait wait wait wait wait wait what were we what we salt that's what we're talking about hello so um I like food I like good food and uh I like salt and I'm I'm not crazy particular about my salt but like I like salt enough that I travel with salt because I got to tell you traveling with salt is such a clutch pro move when you are in a hotel room and you order the last room service before like you know 11:00 p.m. and you get some you know mediocre sandwich and you've got some salt in your bag and you can wake that sandwich up I have rescued a lot of crappy Hotel meals with the salt that I travel with and I specifically mentioned recently that I travel with Jacobson's salt because they make a flake salt that is got these big old kernels and they're like the first salt sea change in my life came about when it was explained to me that kosher salt dissolves much faster than your regular Morton's table salt uh and that makes it much better for all sorts of cooking operations um there are probably other reasons uh besides just being kosher that kosher salt is also awesome um but that one shift now like we always have kosher salt in the house and whenever we're down to like this much in the Box we buy more cuz we we cook a lot in my house um we also have like moldo salt we have like I said we I travel with Jacobson salt and the Jacobson Salt Company sent me a present um and I haven't opened it up yet but I'm just about to oh oh oh this is lovely this is lovely okay oh this is great um so the thing was was what I showed was that I travel with these little Jacobs and salt tins full of salt and I had their standard OG one and they sent me these two let me set up the camera so I can crack them open on camera oo lemon say salt all right oh they already had a terway they made it easy I made it hard look at that beautiful pack pack AG a absolutely gorgeous shades of midcentury oh yeah okay and this is lemon zest salt let's try this woo woo oh that's fascinating m that is really good um Jacobson's amazing all right let's see here look at this this is so so beautiful that is like some real mid-century refinement in that design and it's got a little tagline life on a granular scale this this is what I travel with this is exactly right that is some beautiful salt now flake salt obviously totally different than normal uh granular salt and um what I like to do with it is I like to use it as a finish so if you want to make yourself a Capra so you get a nice piece of uh some heirloom tomato and you slice a nice chunk of that and you put some mozzarella or Bara on top of that you throw some um basil leaves maybe you've cut them in a chiod a chiffonade is just a fancy way of saying you cut basil into strips it's actually one of the fastest way to cut basil because you just roll up all the leaves in a big barrel slice them all the way down you get these long little strips they're fabulous for a Capra and then you you know you might add a little balsamic across the top of that uh it's best if it's uh an aged balsamic um and then over that over that I would sprinkle some heavy Jacobson salt because it it does two things the heavy flakes make not just a flavor transfer and and and salt is a really well it's not just a flavor transfer it is also a crunch and that crunch I've put it in sandwiches I put it on Burgers it's like I I crave that crunch um if you think that I'm a little nuts and you're like how why is salt that important I just I would ask you to go to Trader Joe's get yourself their fantastic uh uh tomato soup and heat up a cup of it and take a little sip have a little bite then put a little kosher salt in there have a bite again put a little more kosher salt actually takes like a for a cup of tomato soup to me it takes like a good three finger pinch of salt right in there and that puppy wakes up that's what salt does to food and this isn't to talk about salt as a as a as an well I guess I have talked about salt as an ingredient it wakes things up it it it it it's really incredible it's like upping the saturation in a Photoshop file and Vin vinegar white vinegar weirdly does the same thing depending on what you're working on um since I'm I'm not the I'm not the chef in my house my kids are both my kids and my wife are all better chefs than me uh uh I am the I'm the Sue I prep everything I get it ready uh and I can do I I'm I'm often a finisher so uh I will get the dish and say and ask be asked what is the last thing that it needs a little bit of this a little bit of that just to bring the flavor up to full um Jacobson Salt Company I remain a giant fan of your work thank you for sending me these two beautiful packages oh right I didn't try the the lemon zest okay I'm going to try lemon zest flake here oo oo oh that's a kick that would be great on a margarita glass not that I drink but still would be great on a margarita glass
