New SEAT Leon 2020 review - better than a VW Golf

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the new say at Leon and it's a little bit like shopping at Sainsbury's because you get all the exact same stuff as when you go to Marks & Spencer's only Marks and Spencers is a little bit more expensive and a bit nice to shop at you could say the most offenses like the golf and that means that the Audi a3 will be like Waitrose which is more expensive still and even nicer to be in and in this video I'm gonna tell you where you should shop let's start this video by talking about the price because the new set line starts from just under 20,000 pounds this is the 1.5 liter fr model and it's actually twenty four and a half thousand pounds now if you click on the pop-out banner up there you can go to car wire and there you can save an average of $3,000 on a new car now if you're not actually looking for a new car to buy yourself but you know someone who is just tell them to Google car wow they go there we'll help them decide which car to buy and get a good deal on it as well this new set looks quite a bit different than the old one I hate to say I actually prefer the look of its predecessor than this I don't know maybe I'll grab me but right now I'm sort of seeing a Halloween pumpkin face going on maybe for the cause in orange even worse this is fr model so it gets some gray satin effect here rather than the normal shiny grille surround the standard car and some sporty slices here in the fake 13 takes not convinced by the from desire to tell the truth but hey beauties in the ILA beholder I prefer the side profile of the car because you've got some really nice creases going on about the place the way the window narrows here makes it look like you got a sloping roofline like a coupe a the crease reappears herring it's quite bold I'm not so keen on this alloy wheel design now this is the Air Farce he gets 17 to standard however the entry-level car gets 16 being the fr you also get like this satin effect here on the door mirrors here at the back this is my favorite angle of the car in fact it's definitely a case of nice ass shame about the face you get a roof spoiler there which is pretty sporty and the way this bit it's almost like a secondary spoiler like a little duck tail but my favorite element is the light bar that is super cool in fact the rear of this car looks like something from the future there is one thing I don't like about it though if our models get fake exhaust pipes I'll just damage my stick of truth' no need to get another one anyway what do you think about the look of this car Didier looks better than the golf let me know in the comments below personally I think both this and the golf have pretty dodgy looking faces the lamb comes with a range of petrol and diesel engines so the petrol range starts with the 1 liter 3-cylinder turbo with version 10 horsepower there's a 130 horsepower 1.5 liter 4-cylinder turbo petrol then a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder with 150 horsepower then a 2 liter 4-cylinder turbo petrol with 100 90 horsepower then there's a diesels they're both two liters one with 115 horsepower and the other with 150 horsepower and finally we come to the 1.4 liter plug-in hybrid which has 205 horsepower now most versions of the car come with a six-speed manual gearbox but certain models get a 7-speed automatic say it says the lay on with this 1.5 850 horsepower petrol engine should do naught to 60 in 8.4 seconds but I see for myself by using my specialist timing gear so I'm going to start it off and hopefully do good launch there's a manual drive that many manuals anymore here we go we'll spin come on get on boost come on there we go go time it's raining 8.6 seconds and that was with a bit of wheel slip as well so I put four is possible if you get a good launch no problem here on the inside the land is pretty nice it's quite a minimalist cabin so there's hardly any buttons really most of the stuff is operated through the touchscreen there are just a few down here and some touch sensitive buttons here and obviously ones for your window switches which you need further than that it's quite simple oh and of course someone is steering well the design has quite shocked creases in it just like the outside of the car I did quite like it though I think that the interior design of the golf even though it's quite similar to this is just a little bit nicer just a bit more interesting and colorful terms of quality well that's a bit cheap down there this is a bit cheap down here that feels a bit cheap but the rest of it is pretty good so things that you might touch or rest on are very nice squidgy - as well I quite like it now the fr models get red stitching about the place in here and on there sportiest seats speaking of which it's quite easy to get an ideal driving position because there's lots of adjustment in the scenes the exactly it up quite high if you're short or get it nice and low if you're tough a pint of headroom here in the front and see it give you a lot of adjustment in the steering wheel as well that's a good thing see what's a good thing as well the elder ladies taking the car so this one has the upgraded screens more on that and what you get depending on which one you go for later in the video and I'll actually go on and do an in-depth video review of the infotainment system itself here in the back of the lay on I'm really surprised it's a lot bigger it was before it really is look how much knee room I've got and that seats my usual driving position and I am an average-height male okay hundred and seventy nine centimeters at the entrance of me there's loads of headroom to look at that now the middle C is obviously a bit high but it's wide and there is this hump in the floor to get your feet over so it's not too terrible and if you need to carry three people at once the body is wide enough there's enough Headroom even in the middle and the foot wells are large so there's plenty of room for everyone's feet this is a practical car you know you could carry three adults in the back of this if you need to and - we'll be more than happy I can't get over it they really have made it super roomy back here this new sailor's boot is best described as a space it's kind of square which is good what's not so good days that there's this huge load lift height stuff over that is quite annoying and while there are a few like tie-down points it's all quite basic in here there's no false floor or anything like that and in terms of the capacity it's the same as a golfer it's 380 litres which is the same as the old layout which is a little bit small now for this class of car in fact just go to scholars boot is about 20% bigger in fact if you click on the pop-up right up there you can watch my full in-depth video review of the new Skoda Scala which is even better value than this car and everyone's not - five annoying things about the new say outlay on if you want to alter the fan speed for the ventilation system you can't just do it quickly by turning a knob no you have to press that button there and then do to the touchscreen which is a bit tricky while you're driving and one button press too many looks like sarah has been copying Persia with this kind of thing also if you're not alter the temperature use these sliders and they're kind of difficult to get the accurate temperature you want especially once again while you're driving you used to be able to get the previous version of the layout as a sporty two-door it was called the SC my mom actually owns one this new version is a four-door only or I'm not a fan of this new layout bag it's as though a chap called Leonard try to sign his name and then had a stroke halfway through plenty of cars of this size are offered with a parent glass roof which helps make the inside just feel a bit lighter and more interesting can't get one at all able to sail around there's not for some reason that doesn't seem to be a 12 watt socket here in the boot I can't find it anywhere it's not all negative though here's five good things about this car this new light on is 86 millimeters longer than the old car which is quite an increase in length going from generation to generation of carpets and usual now 50 millimeters of that extra length is actually between the front and rear wheels and all of it pretty much has gone over to the rear seats and that's why you've got so much rear legroom I really love the lounge nuki it feels great expensive and it looks quite posh as well in fact it looks a lot poorer than many keys for far more expensive cars see this pattern here in the headlamps these little triangles they're actually mirrored in the digital drivers display but you only see them before it's fully booted up it's kind of really cool attention to detail that most people won't notice but will probably pick up subconsciously and they'll just think oh there's something kind of cohesive about this cause designing this car can use its braking system when you go into a corner to stop power just being wasted away by the inside wheel spinning up and instead it clamps that wheel so the power goes to the differential to the wheel with the most grip which is of course the front wheel the lane gets android auto and apple carplay as standard right across the range and with the Apple phone you can actually connect it wirelessly which is brilliant wait a minute where's the SAP underneath it's skin the sack now shares its chassis with the Volkswagen Golf the layout is available as front-wheel drive only one key difference compared to the Volkswagen Golf is that all versions of the set loud have a simple torsion beam rear suspension system so the wheels at the back are joined by a beam and so they're not independent whereas higher power versions of the golf get fully independent rear suspension if our versions of the lay arm get stiffer suspension which is load by 50 millimeter while first edition models also get adaptive dampers and if you put them into sports mode they then get stiffer for a sporty Drive so what's this sadly I'd like to drive well the first thing to note is that it's dead easy steering way absolutely fine the gearshift is a bit not Qi can be a bit annoying what you're like shuffling through the gears but it's not too bad the clutch is nice and light though and the brakes they're not overly sensitive but they still stop you nice and reassuringly they're good I'll tell you something else that's good as well the suspension so this is the fr model and it supposedly got stiffer sporty or suspension but it's still very very good over bumps you can go through a pothole and it's just like nothing's really happened it's good over speed ups as well really comfy car another thing I like is the turning circle it's actually tighter than the Gulf's it's ten point five meters the golf is ten point nine so is the Audi a3 so that helps when you're maneuvering round town what's not so good for when you're maneuvering around town is the rear visibility got large rear pillar so when you print out a junctions and stuff like bit hard to see over your shoulder and what's come in from there when you're filtering out but when you're parking it's not such an issue because you're just gonna use your parking sensors anyway aren't you this layout is pretty impressive when you get on the motorway as well it's a reasonably quite a speed it's probably not quite as quiet as the golf it's like they're not allowed to fit quite so much sound deadening by VW because they want the golf to be slightly superior but still for most people most of the time you ain't gonna notice the difference unless you're a motoring journalist back to back in them and having to give some form of reason for your existence and as a journalist desert pulling power of the engine I'm gonna put it into third gear now doing 50 floor if I ever taking during the motorway it's quite smooth the power delivery it's not the most rapid in gear but it'll do the job builds power steadily and it doesn't make that much of a noise doesn't complain when you're revit it's fine until what's also find the economy so say it claims this guy should do 48 miles per gallon but I'm averaging 53 53 miles per gallon why the heck do you need a diesel engine this will do it it's smoother it's quieter get petrol now say it is supposed to be VW's more sporty flamboyant cousin so let's see what it's like on a twisty road is the Leon Leon that's my uncle's name is the laod fun-to-drive it's fine now so check it into a corner he leans a bit and we'll wash why did you get too carried away he lifts off and it does tighten up but it's all fairly inert and sensible and safe what I say feel sporty no especially so more so than a golf not especially so again more fun on a twisty road than a Ford Focus not quite in fact your essay might followed a video review of that car click on the pop-up banner up there but it's still decent enough it's not particularly thrilling though it's just behind the inveterate system is pretty decent so it's all new for the saya and it's similar to that in the golf though the graphics aren't quite as sharp and the menu system isn't quite as good you have short cut burns here along the bottom to jump between different menus though if you want to you can always swipe lot and have again through the different menus and swipe up and down to choose different things as well you get used to it in the end is it a bit confusing at first if you have the inbuilt sat-nav it's fairly decent it's not the best in the world but really what you're gonna do is hook your phone up to it there are voice commands in this car but really they're a bit hit and miss and there's also gesture control so call come on come on you're doing it earlier there we go yeah it's not exactly the most responsive is it you're not gonna bother with that the whining BMWs is way way better actually quite useful now if you want the digital drivers display that is useful I like it so there's quite a few menus you can choose to rotate between change the dials change the look of it go widescreen so many different options really very demise of all it's nice system I do like now let's talk about in-car stories because it's very good in the new layout so underneath here which incidentally you can move the armrest oh there's a bit of space there and you've got 12 volts socket here you've got a couple of cupholders varying depths so if you've got a small drink it's not going to end up like knocking the top of your little shot coffee then there's another place here for your mobile phone and you've got two USB sea ports then the glovebox is a decent sonal you can fit a large pot of water in there and the door bins are huge loads of room in then the door bins in the back they are large as well look at that you can fit a big bottle in there you got some pockets on the seat backs and you fold down the rear armrest there's some more cup holders there through them one for that little small energy drink it Delon is a really good car if you've got very young children so if you need to fit a baby sit in the back it's dead simple the rear doors open nice and wide there's lots of room in the back seat so you can fit one of those bulky rear-facing seats without having to move this front passenger seat forward my only complaint is the fact that the ISOFIX angle points in the back aren't that easy to get to because they're hidden behind the cushions however you can get our six angle points here on the front passenger seat as well which is ideal if you've got triplets and they're much easier to get to look they're exposed that's better now if you want to take your triplets skiing you can do because look there is a ski see you carry longer items through here and still have all the passenger seats in use the seats when you fall them down if you want to carry loads of stuff split 60/40 I like the way that the seatbelts have a little holder so the next snack when you fold the seat backs down wasn't it's not great those this look a huge Ridge here say if you've got something heavy and you've loaded it into the boots gonna be hard to push it towards the front of the car that's a bit annoying finally let's talk about the equipment levels so the lay on range kicks off with the SE and that gets LED headlights and eight-inch infotainment screen it doesn't have sat-nav but it does have Android auto and apple carplay you also get climate control and basic cruise control the next level up is the SE dynamic and that gets the 10 inch infotainment screen with inbuilt satellite navigation and the digital drivers display instead of analog dials it also gets front as well as the standard rear parking sensors if our models get Troy's own climate control so you can set the temperature in the backseat so they also get two USB sees in the backseat a wireless charging pad in the front view mobile phone and scrolling indicators finally at the top of the range is the fr first edition so that gets 18-inch alloy wheels gets adaptive cruise control and a reversing camera but which engine and twin combination of set low should you go for well I'm actually picking my favorite right now on Carl Wow and if you want to see what it is and to check out the best offers you can get on this or any car click on the pop-up banner up there to find out so then what's my final verdict on the new Sailor should you avoid it she didn't consider it should be shortlist it or should you just go right ahead and buy it well I reckon you should shortlist the new lay on you know it's a really really nice car it's just that you may as well spend a little bit extra and get a golf if you enjoyed this video please subscribe to this channel for more videos and if you click on the deals box you can see how much you can save on a new car at car Y or click on the video windows below to watch another of my videosthis is the new say at Leon and it's a little bit like shopping at Sainsbury's because you get all the exact same stuff as when you go to Marks &
