The Road to Restoration: A K Series STI's Journey Back to Its Former Glory
As we sit here in the garage, surrounded by the tools of our trade and the remnants of a once-thriving project, it's hard not to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. We've been working tirelessly for weeks, pouring every ounce of sweat and effort into bringing this K Series STI back from the brink of obscurity. And today, we're finally starting to see the fruits of our labor.
Our plan of attack was to sit on this piece a little flatter but we're pretty much just going to weld this piece on this just like how we normally would like on the other side but I'm gonna sit on it just like that instead and then we'll have two hose clamps holding it down nice and tight. Then, I won't go anywhere cuz then we can take the mount off whenever we need to pull the motor so that we can still actually take the motor out because like I said last night look right here if you would well this one solved like the other side you wouldn't be able to get the motor out at all. Alright, so I just got this piece all finished up got it all cleaned up and ready to go and then we also trim the saddle down and got it hose clamped on that is not going anywhere that is so tight and so now we're just gonna put this piece on just like that.
As we move forward with the project, we've encountered a few challenges along the way. But one of the most significant hurdles has been the need to extend a little shaft that connects to the steering rack. This was necessary because, as it turned out, our original part was too short. We didn't want to compromise on quality, so we had to get creative and find a solution. After some tinkering, we managed to rig up a temporary fix that will hold us over until we can get a proper replacement.
One of the things that's been impressive throughout this project is the level of precision and attention to detail required. We've had to weld and trim various components to ensure a seamless fit and finish. The result is something truly remarkable – a K Series STI with mounts that are virtually indestructible.
The steering rack, in particular, has been a point of focus for us. With the tie rods perfectly level, it's clear that we've put in the work to get everything just so. We're getting close, and I can feel the excitement building up inside me. It won't be long now before this STI is back on the road, ready to take on whatever challenges come its way.
Of course, no project of this magnitude would be complete without a few surprises along the way. As it turns out, our STI is missing one crucial component – a turbocharger. Don't worry; we're not letting that get us down. We'll have that sorted in no time. And once again, I'm reminded just how much work goes into restoring a car like this.
We've made good progress today, but there's still plenty to be done. The wiring needs to be finished up, and some final tweaks will be required before we can say the STI is truly ready to roll. But for now, it's time to take a step back and appreciate what we've accomplished so far.
As I look around the garage, I'm struck by just how much has been achieved in such a short space of time. The saddle mounts are secure, the flywheel clearance is perfect, and the steering rack is perfectly level – all thanks to our tireless efforts. It's moments like these that remind me why we do what we do.
And now, as I prepare to head out for the evening, I'm filled with a sense of anticipation. Tomorrow will bring more work on the hatch, but I know it'll be worth it in the end. The STI is one step closer to being back in action, and that's all that matters right now.
For those wondering about our approach to this project, we can assure you that we've taken a few...unconventional steps. It turns out that some of the most innovative solutions come from thinking outside the box. The key here is to experiment, try new things, and learn from our mistakes. And when all else fails, just remember what my friend with the rear-wheel drive J Series civic told me: "Hose clamps are the way to go."
We'll be continuing this journey in the coming days, and I invite you to join us for every step of the way. With any luck, we'll have our STI back on the track before long – and we can't wait to share it all with you.
As I make my way out of the garage, I'm reminded that sometimes less is more. The mount right here? That's just a temporary solution, but one that has proven its worth. It's not a conventional approach by any means, but hey – when it comes to pro mod and Top Fuel cars, things get pretty wild anyway.
There you have it, folks – the story of our K Series STI's remarkable journey back from the brink of obscurity. Join us next time as we continue this exciting project – and who knows? We might just surprise you with some more unorthodox solutions along the way!
