iPhone 5s Full In-Depth Review

The iPhone 5S: A Review of Apple's Latest Offering

It's nice to be able to switch your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and things on and off without having to go into these settings as you had to do previously. Personally, I'm not a fan of the bright colored icons, but that's something that you could live with. However, I did miss the customization of Android, the widgets, the flexibility, and the openness. But many people like the simplicity of iOS, and I think for a lot of people, iOS is absolutely fine now.

Moving on to the key feature of this phone, Touch ID, the fingerprint scanner. Now you can use this to unlock your device and also purchase apps on the App Store very quickly and easily. It works really well, and it's not the first time we've seen a fingerprint scanner on a smartphone, but Apple has implemented it in an integrated way that's very easy to set up. You can have up to five fingers scanned, and you can scan your fingerprint in any angle 360 degrees, and it will recognize it.

There are some people who have been talking about the security risk of having your fingerprint on your smartphone. Apple has a statement saying that the fingerprint data is only stored on the phone itself and is also encrypted. However, there's still some concern that if you've got family friends or your partner that you don't want to get into your device, they could unlock it by using your finger onto the home button.

The thing is, you can always just use your PIN anyway, it's not compulsory to use Touch ID. So, it's not much to complain about in terms of security risk. However, I did find that the battery life was slightly smaller than the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5S has a 1560 milliamp battery, which is only slightly larger than the iPhone 5. Despite this, I found myself running out of charge by around 8:00 or 9:00 p.m., which would have been nice if it had lasted a few more hours.

In terms of price, you can pick up the iPhone 5S for £549 for the 16 GB version in the UK, and prices go up depending on storage options. The US version is also off contract, starting at $649. As with any premium device, the prices are not likely to go down until the release of the next iPhone.

There's enough here to upgrade from the iPhone 5? I don't think there is. The iPhone 5 still has the latest version of iOS, and you have to remember that the 5S is only an incremental update to the iPhone 5. Apple usually does this because most people are on a 24-month contract, so if you currently have the iPhone 5, it may be worth waiting for the next iPhone or looking at some alternative options.

If you're an Android user and you're used to the customizability of Android and the larger screens of Android devices, then I do think you'll struggle with the iPhone 5S. But if you're an existing iOS user, maybe on the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S, then this is definitely a nice upgrade for you. And I do think you'll enjoy it.

In conclusion, the iPhone 5S is a very good device overall. It's got some great features like Touch ID and a sleek design. However, if you're on an Android device and you're used to the customizability of Android, then you might struggle with this. But for those who are already invested in the iOS ecosystem, I think it's definitely worth considering.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's up YouTube saf here on super saf TV and this is my Hands-On review of the iPhone 5S I've had a lot of requests for it on the channel so do hit that thumbs up button and let's get straight to it so starting off with the size design and build the iPhone 5S is pretty much identical to the iPhone 5 it is an incremental update so it still has that premium aluminium unibody design and the only visual Hardware changes are the home button which now has the fingerprint scanner and the Dual LED flash at the bag both of which we'll be talking about a little bit later now this time around as well as the Silver you've got the gold and space gray versions so it's nice to see some new options here the screen and resolution you've got the same screen size 4 in with the resolution of 1136 X 640 326 PPI it's a nice screen but it's exactly the same as the iPhone 5 I would have liked to have seen a 720p HD screen so pixel for Pixel HD videos would be looking that much better but because of that 4in screen one-handed usage is pretty easy and you can get to all Corners with no issues personally I do prefer a 4.7 to5 in screen because you get more real estate and it's much more easier to consume media on a larger screen and coming from primarily large screens I did have a few issues trying to press a few buttons which were quite small some to mention uh the x button in the notifications I found myself missing it quite a few times and I wouldn't say I've got fat fingers and thumbs but I noticed you had to be a little bit more precise than you would do on a larger screen now in terms of performance no doubt this is one of the fastest phones out there and Topping a lot of Benchmark charts as well and that's thanks to the A7 64-bit processor and it's the first smartphone with a 64-bit processor it's also got an M7 co-processor now this is sort of a sidekick so if the A7 you consider as Batman the M7 co-processor is robbing and it's used to measure motion data from the accelerometer the gyroscope and the compass and although apps will have to be developed to take full advantage of both of these it's very nice to see and opens up lots of doors for the future now looking at the camera we've got the eyesight camera an 8 megapixel camera so it is the same resolution as the iPhone 5 but the sensor is 15% larger now in terms of quality you can see a comparison of the iPhone 5s versus the S4 that I've done on the channel and that goes into detail in terms of video images as well as audio but in a nutshell as expected it is a very good camera I put it on par with some of the other competition out there I don't think it beats the competition in any way low light performance has improved because of the larger pixels and one thing that I did really like was the true tone flash you've got one Amber and one white LED and these fire off in different combinations to give you more natural colors and more neutral skin tones now the front-facing camera is still a 720p camera I would have liked it to be 1080p to make it consistent with the rear facing camera as well and my main negative of the video recording on the iPhone 5S is the fact that it's still records in mono sound so you've only got a single channel of audio compared to Stereo Sound dual channels of audio that you've got on lots of other devices out there so although the sound may seem okay in isolation as soon as you put it alongside stereo sound then you'll immediately notice a difference some of the things that I did really like was the square mode basically the Instagram mode on the camera and the slow-mo 720p at 120 frames a second now lots of other devices also offer 720p at 120 frames a second but Apple have implemented it really really well you can easily slow down parts of a video or the whole video all together with ease and it's really fun to use now the operating system you've got iOS 7 here the latest version of iOS now coming from primarily an Android background lots of the changes were welcomed such as the quick setting toggles and it was nice to be able to switch your Wi-Fi Bluetooth and things on and off without having to go into these settings as you had to do previously personally not a fan of the bright colored icons but that's something that you could live with but I did miss the customization of Android the have a short that the fingerprint data is only stored on the phone itself and is also encrypted and there's some people going on about thugs possibly chopping off your thumb to get into your phone now I just think that people are going a bit too extreme but once security risk to bear in mind is that if you've got family friends or your partner that you don't want to get into your device then if you are sleeping it's very very easy for them to unlock your phone by using your finger onto the home button and having access to your device but the thing is you can always just use your PIN anyway it's not compulsory to use Touch ID so if it's a feature that you're not too comfortable with then you don't have to use it so it's not much to complain about now battery life you've got 1560 milliamp battery so it's slightly larger than the iPhone 5 but I found that it had very similar usage so not bad but not brilliant either I'd consider myself a medium user so I take my phone off charge in the morning I have Wi-Fi and 3G on throughout the day and my usage mainly consists of social media so Facebook Twitter Instagram a few calls here and there as well as some instant messaging over WhatsApp and Facebook chat and I don't usually watch any videos or play any games during the day and I found myself on that 10% Mark by about 8: or 900 p.m. in the evening so a few more hours would have been nice now in terms of price you can pick this up for £549 for the 16 GB version in the UK and depending on storage options the prices go up and in the US off contract once again $649 upwards so this is
