Duncan: Hey guys, what is up? It's Duncan, and today I'm here with a review of the Verizon Wireless feature phone. Now, as you can see, this isn't your average smartphone - it's a standard feature phone that's built well and has some great features.
The first thing you'll notice about this phone is its size. As you can see, it's very small and compact. This is perfect for those who are looking for a discreet phone to carry with them every day. The screen is also very small, which may be a drawback for some users. However, this phone is not intended for web browsing - it's more of a basic feature phone.
One of the standout features of this phone is its battery life. I've had it for a week without charging it, and the battery has only dropped down to about half. This is an excellent feature for anyone who wants a reliable phone that can last all day. The build quality is also very solid - you can feel the weight and craftsmanship of the phone in your hands.
Inside the phone, things are pretty standard. You've got your buttons, your speakerphone, and your navigation buttons. There's no keyboard, so texting may not be as much fun on this phone as it would be on a smartphone. However, the phone does have a few features that set it apart from other feature phones. For example, it has assisted GPS and can work with Verizon's Navigators service.
Overall, I'm very happy with this phone. It's a solid choice for anyone who wants a reliable feature phone without breaking the bank. The Verizon Wireless coverage is also top-notch - I recently took a trip and had great coverage the whole way. If you're interested in buying this phone, it will run you free on a contract or a penny on your prepaid plan.
One thing to note is that this isn't a smartphone, so if you want all the bells and whistles of a smartphone, you'll have to look elsewhere. However, for those who just want a basic feature phone with reliable coverage and good battery life, this is a great choice. I highly recommend it - it's hard to go wrong with this phone.
In any case, I've had a few questions about the phone's features, so let me address them one by one. The web browser on this phone is not great, in my opinion - it's more of a basic feature that's intended for emergency use only. The camera is also pretty decent, considering its small size.
Now, some of you may be wondering why I'm reviewing this phone if it's not a smartphone. Well, the truth is, there are a lot of people out there who still want to use a traditional feature phone, and this one is a great choice for them. It's built well, has good battery life, and reliable coverage - what more could you ask for?
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en>> Duncan: Hey guys, what is up?It's Duncan, and today I'm here with my veryfirst phone review,of the LG VX5500, for Verizon Wireless.I've used this phone for about, two weeksor so.Tested the calls, the camera, and all kindsof different stuff about it.So I'll give you guys a full review, tellyou what I think about it.Anyway, let's get this one started.>> Duncan: Okay, so, first thing I've gottamention is the size. This is obviously a flip phone, and as youcan see here it's pretty small. But, I want to show you guys how small itis. Here is my iPod touch, and you can see I meanit is, I mean tiny. It's a little bit thicker but, what really got me was it's about the sizeof an iPod nano.I mean if you look, I mean it's very small, and as such it's great for sliding in yourpocket and everything. It does not really weigh anything, I meanreally, it's really solid,so that's the first thing I really like aboutthis phone,I mean the fact that you can just toss itin your pocket and really forget about it.But, there's also a lot of other cool things. So the first thing obviously you'll notice,is that, well if the camera can focus,is that we have two screens. You have a screen, primary screen right there,so obviously you know as normal. But you also have a one inch screen righthere. So it'll tell you incoming calls, all kindsof stuff like that. And when you have it open it will tell youthe time. And it's definitely a nice little touch especiallyfor something that's this thin.So let me run you guys through all what'son it.Obviously we have the one inch screen, right here is where the, speakerphone is,and the speakerphone does sound pretty decentwith this phone.Right here you have a tiny little 0.3 megapixelcamerait only does shoot, stills, it does not shootvideoand they're not that great, the pictures, but it's just something kind of nice to haveI guess.Looking on the right side, it's totally freeand clear except a dedicated camera button. So if we open it up,hit the button right here, and now as you can see we have the camera,so let's go ahead and take a picture of this. And then there we go, and then you have choicesto save, send or erase, so let's go aheadand erase that. And then you can go in here, in My Pictures, let me show you guys a demo real quick. It does not take good pictures, I mean, they'repretty small and they're kind of junk but,you know, it's better than nothing. On the front you will see nothing, it's just, smooth. On this side you will see there's a few things. Here's something to hook up like a headsetor something. Now you can't hook up a, normal microphone,I mean you DO hook up a normal microphone, this will not fit a normal thing such as likeyour headphones or anything like that.So you have to have the special kind for that. And the flaps are not that great, but.You have volume up and down, soobviously just call volume, if we go aheadand turn it up, or turn it down, you know, pretty standard stuff.Right here we have voice commands, voice commands are actually pretty cool, solet's go ahead and show you guys.>> Phone: Please say a command.>> Duncan: So with this you can say all kindsof different commands, you can say, message to, go to, check item, you see allkinds of different stuff.>> Phone: Command not recognized, please tryagain.>> Duncan: Shut up.And lastly on this side, underneath this flap, which, I hate this flap, I got to admit. It's not, it's kind of hard because you haveto pick it up, there we go.But you will see we have, Micro USB,and this is used for both charging, usingthe charger that comes with it.And also you can do limited syncing, withyour computer. But I will note it's only got like, 44 megabytesof storageand you can't expand it, so you're probablynot really going to need that. But it's not a big deal.On the back, it's nothingactually, if you guys can see, it's got adifferent plate like that. It's all plastic, but it's pretty solid. And underneath this actually it's a 1000 miliamphour batteryand I got to say, battery life, the two main things I like about this is batterylife, and I like the size.Battery life on this, they rate it to be fourteenhour,I mean fourteen days of standby time and Ican absolutely see that.In the time I've used this I spent a weekwithout charging this, keeping it on almost all of the time and makingsome, light to moderate call useageand the battery has only got down to about, half. So I got to say, the battery life is justexcellent, you know you can be doing all kinds of stuffand it really doesn't matter. So those two are major things, and if you'renot looking for a big smartphonethat's definitely a really good way to go.>> Duncan: Okay, so now let's take a lookat the inside of the phone. Now, as you see here you have the screen. And it is very, very fingerprint, you cansee there fingerprints are all over the place. You have the speaker, and when you come down here you have a prettystandard for just a normal phone, you have your buttons, you have a D-pad,not a D-pad, but I forgot what it's calledfour buttons, navigation buttons, there wego. You have your speakerphone turn on and off, your clear, which also doubles as a back button. The send and end, which obviously end doublesas a power key.And then you just have your standard buttons.Everything does light up, and I've got tosay the feel of it,I don't know if you can see right there, the feel of it is very nice, it really feelslike an expensive phone. You know, it's obviously, you don't have anykind of keyboard on it,so you're not going to be doing a lot of textingon itbut I've messed around on it some and it reallyfeels good,so it's really solid. And that goes for the whole phone, the buildquality is really solid. If I take it like this, you guys might beable to see,you can kind of twist it a little bitand right there it can kind of do it.But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. It'ssolid.I mean, as long as you're not really tryingthat hard, I wouldn't worry about it.And of course, I've dropped the phone, youknow.I've dropped the phone a few times and it'sbeen just fine. So, there's a few different features. There'sweb browsing. You can do web browsing, it's a feature phone,I mean you guys saw how small the screen isit's not great and I wouldn't really recommendusing this, maybe as an emergency, but then you've gotto get data plans and all kinds of stuff likethat, really, I would steer clear of the web browser. It also does have assisted GPS.And it also can get it with the Verizon Navigatorservice.I have not tried this so I really can't sayanything about it other than the phone doeshave it.So, to sum up, I like the phone a lot.You know a lot of people on Verizon, for example you have some really good competitionlike the Droid, also the Nexus One will be coming here soon. But this is not going to be a smartphone, this is just a standard, boring in the best sense of the word phone.I mean, it's not exciting, there's nothing that you'll show you're friendsand they'll go wow!But guess what, it's a solid phone. It's built well, great battery life,it's pretty decent, you have your cameraphone, and all kinds of good stuff like that.If you're interested in buying this phoneit will run youfree, or a penny they say but basically freeif you get it from Verizon Wireless on a contract. You can also get this prepaid so if you don'tlike to deal with contracts or whateveryou can pick this up prepaid and do the minuteslike that.Generally it's $50, I did see at the timeof thisthat a few places had it for cheaper thanthat soif you're interested in that you might wantto look around before you pay the $50.But in any case, if you're looking for justa standard feature phoneit's hard to go wrong with this,Verizon Wireless coverage, I really like that,I've just recently taken a trip and had greatcoverage the whole wayand I really like Verizon, so all in all, pretty solid phone. No real downsides to it other than it's nota smartphone, and not everybody needs a smartphone so,anyway guys, definitely recommend it if you'reinterested in something like this.Anyway, thanks for watching.
